Good sound, not a great fit

Jason from Mesa, AZ on 3/22/2012

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Speakers sound great, but dont actually fit in the bracket that Nissan has in the door. I had to use a file and work on the metal to get three of the four holes to line up with the holes.

Pros: Wire clips work like a dream.

Cons: Size was not accurate for the brackets. I had to do my own modifications.

With gas prices going through the roof here, I've been forced to drive my 97 Saturn instead of my SUV. Blew out the stock speakers years ago, but rarely drove it so I didn't really care to upgrade. Saw the $49.99 on a set of Pioneer speakers, read the reviews which are mostly positive and decided to buy them. They sound great, but now I see that I need better speakers for the rear deck.

Pros: easy to install, great sound

Cons: package didn't come with screw anchors which I really could have used.

Not bad for the money

For cheap speakers, they aren't bad and they get the job done. These will be nice to accent a sub system for mids but that's about it. They have zero bass to them. Luckily, I do have a subs so that's not an issue. If you're looking for an all purpose speaker or an upgrade from OEM, these are NOT it.

My 04 Trailblazer radio was inoperative. Went to a dealer, and they informed me that all four speakers were blown. The front oem speakers came out to $300.00 plus, including tax and installation. I was told the rear oem speakers were $132 each, plus tax and install. I bought this pair of Pioneer speakers for $40 (+ - ) and they sound comparable to the much more expensive front speakers. With the included wiring harnesses, and instructions, the install wasn't bad at all. I'm happy with my choice of speakers.

Pros: Good sound, as long as you don't try to make your ears bleed! Relatively easy install, with the included instruction sheets, and wiring adaptor harnesses.

Great Speaker for the Price

Great overall sound for the the money, is an improvement from the factory speakers. Replaced the blown factory Infinity speakers in a 96 Grand Cherokee. With the included adapter plates and wiring harnesses, this job was just as simple as replacing with factory parts.

Pros: Great price and overall sound quality. Sized to fit most locations without interference.

Cons: As others have stated, these speakers are a little short on bass, but expected since the woofers are small.

Bought to replace the paper speakers in my 2003 Honda civic. Way better than stock. Bass could be better but I'm on a factory radio right now . Just got my Avh-p2400bt in just have to install it and I'm sure the fullness of the bass and sound will come out when that's installed. One this is the brackets supplied are useless! Got me some different brackets and they are the exact same as my factory brackets and DIDN'T HAVE TO DRILL !! So shop around for your brackets.

Pros: Great quality.

Cons: Brackets are junk. Like really lousy i let my dog chew on em.

In other words, one of the factory speakers was blown. :) I put these in the rear deck of my '01 Prius because one of the factory speakers quit. They sound a little better than stock (also Pioneers, judging by part number); nothing earth-shaking but better. Install tips for this specific vehicle: You can get 4 screws (that come with the speakers) from the speakers to the adapter ring, and 2 of the 3 long tabs on the adapter ring will then bolt to the factory holes in the car (stock bolts). Try this first with no screws so you can line up all the holes. The inner speaker won't be *quite* square with the car if you do this, though. Run the supplied adapter harnesses through existing holes in the parcel shelf sheet metal (factory speakers connect on top, these connect on the bottom) - the left one is a bit of a stretch but it will fit. You don't use the grilles that come with these. You don't need the speed nuts on the adapter ring; the long black sheet metal screws just bite into the plastic sides of the slots. Protips: Take the vertical rear seat cushion out of the car before you take out the carpet/hardboard parcel shelf cover. If you don't, you'll beat up the "tabs" on the leading corners of the parcel shelf cover that wrap around the seat belts. You *have* to take off the parcel shelf cover to get at the bolts for the factory speakers; the bolts go in and come out from the top. Don't try to pry the factory plastic grilles off the parcel shelf cover.

Pros: Inexpensive and work well. Having the adapter rings and harness adapters supplied by Crutchfield was a plus over buying them locally.

Cons: Generic directions, not specific for my car. (I have a factory manual and I had taken the back seat apart before so this wasn't a huge deal.)

Pioneer Speakers

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

These are the speakers i got to replace the old stock door speakers in my 1990 Bronco II. They fit the door holes nicely, and I was able to use a couple of the original screw holes, but the hole pattern in the new speakers was slightly different. A 1/8-inch drill bit in two of the mounting holes fixed that in short order, and the water shields off of the original speakers fit right on the Pioneer speakers, making for an OEM style installation. I had removed the door panels a few weeks earlier to do some upholstery work on them, and replace one window motor, so I was an old hand at door panel removal. I had replaced the old friction clips that were on the door panels, and I only broke one, but I had extras, so no problem. The new radio works good, and the speakers sound great. I'd reccommend Crutchfield to anyone looking to upgrade their sound system!

Pros: Fit was good, and installation was easy.

Cons: None i'm aware of.

Great speakers for Honda Civic

Dunes from Seattle, WA on 2/13/2012

1998 Honda Civic

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

The sound is great in the mid and high range. There isn't a whole lot of bass, my car's factory 6x9s in the back have a much more powerful bass. I would use these in the doors but not the rear deck. Great product for the price. They were easy to install on my 98 Honda Civic. I had to bend a couple of tabs that are not used for this car in order to fit it in the door speaker slot but that wasn't a big deal.

Pros: Great price and easy install. Sounds great in the mid and high range. No distortion in the low range

Cons: Bass sounds fine but is not particularly powerful.

I installed this in my brother's '98 Corolla's rear deck. Installation was very simple, however Crutchfield could have been more elaborate on how to exactly remove parts on the vehicle. Like, instead of saying: "Remove rear deck panel" they could say "Remove rear deck panel by uninstalling plastic fasteners which can be access by opening the trunk compartment." Anyways, the factory speakers uses "paper" medium. I only installed one of the Pioneer in the deck and left the other side with the factory speaker still, after turning on the radio I can clearly hear that the Pioneer has the better sound and bass quality and is louder. However I also got baffles for this bad boys.

Pros: Budget friendly. Better sound quality. Bass is better than old factory. Definitely louder than factory speakers.

Cons: None.

Purchased replacement speakers for my 2000 Dodge Durango which of course needed needed specialized mounting adaptor brackets. The Crutchfield advisor found me four excellent Pioneer car speakers at a great price, and this price included the adaptor brackets and adaptor wire harness for each speaker - excellent. Speakers went in perfectly and sound great. I could not be happier. I should add that I was able to buy all 4 speakers plus all the mounting hardware for the price that one replacement speaker would have cost me going through Dodge.

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I'm writing this review mainly because it frustrates me to no end when i see people complain about speakers having no bass. NONE of these upgraded speakers will have more bass than your stock speakers, they are all designed to reach better sound quality, not pound. ALL of them are designed to pair with subwoofers, your stock speakers are paper with low impedence meaning the cone throws a lot giving you some bass, it also blows the thing up easily. If any of you are reading this review looking for amazing sound without the need to add subs you need to get high quality componet speakers with a decent 4 channel amplifier to power them, this will get you on the same level (if not better) than those luxury cars with BOSE systems already installed. As for these speakers they sound good for the price, but the paper surrounding the cone might rip after heavy use, especially if you crank up the bass and push it beyond what it can do.

Pros: Price

Cons: Build quality, paper sounding the cone might rip.

Cons: installation could be better.

I purchased a used Lexus SC430 in which both front "high dollar" speakers were blown. These Pioneers sound great and have better bass than the original. Speakers installed in a 1997 Accord wagon with Alpine CDE-103BT and Alpine Power Pack 45watt RMS x 4 amp. I was looking for inexpensive rear speakers for the rear doors on my wagon since my front speakers are 3-way and have good bass response. I saw pretty good reviews for these and they were on sale. The highs are crisp, but as others said, the lows aren't there. I didn't expect them to have lows though. Read the reviews of the other 6.5" speakers. That's about on par with 90% of the choices anyway. Fantastic choice to replace blown stock speakers or even as a rear-fill speaker. If I had the option of installing a subwoofer in my car, I would not hesitate on running 4 of these.

I bought one pair for the back doors of my 98 Dodge Ram Quad Cab and another pair for the front doors of my daughter's 05 Hyundai Elantra. They fit perfectly in both vehicles. On the Elantra we filed down a small portion of a lip on the housing that protected the stock speakers so we could reuse them and they popped right in like it was made to be. I also bought two pairs of Pioneer TS-A6963R 6x9s and put one pair her rear deck and the other pair in my front doors. The sound quality improved substantially and we can't wait to get the rest of the systems upgraded. Both vehicles have the stock head units in them but we have a nice Kenwood for her Elantra and I just ordered JVC HD receiver for my truck. Pros - Great sound and quality for the price. - Great fit in both vehicles. - Great service and fast shipping from Crutchfield. I would feel good recommending this setup to anybody looking for a nice upgrade over stock without breaking the bank.

The speakers were a great improvement over the old factory speakers. They are efficient and they have good strong volume for the input power. The existing fader and balance controls work perfect with these speakers. I installed them on top of the existing speaker spacers. I drilled new holes through the spacers into the car sheet metal and then screwed them in. No problems and speakers were installed solid and secure. I never used the speed clips as I screwed into the car sheet metal. The speaker connection cords from Crutchifeld fit the plug connection on the car and the speaker tabs but the cord length was too short. So i spliced a little more wire into them and no problem.

Crutchfield won't accept the long story - so short story: Bass is tight and musical, mids are clean, highs are.. well - "there" and full of air. Despite stock door location setup the soundstage is high, imaging is centered, and I can play pretty loud. I may have clipped my head unit when i turned it up, as I heard distortion eventually but I'm not sure if it were the speakers of the HU. Highly recommended for ANYONE suffering from cheap, stock speakers. This will be the best 50-60 bucks you've spent on audio in your life.

Classic . News . Rock . Pop . And Jazz . 3 Of Them Sound Great And The Other 3 Sound like The Speaker Can't Handle The Bass Of The EQ That's Main Reason Why I Gave It A 3 Star's If It Wasn't For That When Of Couse A 5 Star. Installation with the supplied brackets was not as simple as the instructions stated. I had to trim a significant amount of the bracket supports away just to fit the door panels. I also had a hard time mounting the speakers to the brackets with the small selection of supplied screws. Once they were installed with the supplied wiring connectors the sound quality was clear. I have the stock Subaru tweeter kit and was concerned that the combined treble would be too much. I dial it down a notch or two now. No issues there. I'm quitre satisfied with the performance for the price. Didn't want to replace the stock stereo system. It's not that important to me. Just want clear (and sometimes loud) tunes. Crutchfield is excellent with the package they delivered. Full set of install instructions for my vehicle. Extra wire harnesses (in case I needed them). Full range of support. I'll definitely buy from them again. They've got the right approach for internet service. Shoot, it's almost as good as my local installer (ok. there is a difference, but for a much higher cost than $50 out the door). Good all around experience.

Easy and sounds Great 2000 Sierra Pickup

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I have a 2000 Sierra Pickup and the OEM right door speaker tore a cone. I bought these and the sound is great, better than the originals. The installation kit that came with them made the job very easy, the wiring adapter fit perfectly, this meant no splicing or soldiering. The mounting ring is universal so it has two ways to go into the door with the large clip up or the small clip up. For my truck it was the large clip. This meant I had to cut off the small clip or they would not lay flat. This was easy to do with a hack saw, since it is plastic. You could not mount the speaker without the adapter ring. This makes buying the speakers form Crutchfiled an excellent deal. After installing the right speaker I played the stereo and even my daughter said the right sounded better than the original left. After I got both speakers in it is like the truck is new again. Total job took about an hour. If you have manual windows I strongly suggest you buy the special tool to remove the window crank. I bought one for $9 at NAPA.

These speakers do lack bass. I considered that my old stock 98 OEM Jeep speakers were just muddy sounding but that's not it. The speakers sound very crisp and can tale volume from my budget Clarion. Install was way easy so do it your self. I don't mind the bass absence because I don't need it for my listening the majority of which is audiobooks. For the price point these are better than a good buy. I purchased the door baffles and should not have. If you are experienced with installs and know the proper way to use them go ahead but I received no guidance that I could find. I used one and tossed the other...should I cut them down? How far? I could have called but I was dirty. I drilled but one new hole and did not bother with the templates though I could have. The supplied directions while not totally accurate were very beneficial and was the major reason I purchased from Crutchfield

It's great for the money - it'll be a 5-star if not 10 days after I bought it (3 days after I actually got it), they reduce the price by $10 anyways, the sound is great - I use this pair to replace factory door speakers on a 2002 accord. The car has 6 speakers, but only after the replacement, it finally sounds like all 6 speakers are working. yup, quite big difference. of course, it's just a pair of low end speakers, so don't expect it can beat your home theater system :)

I have a 2006 Avalanche. I replaced both the front and rear door speakers. Shipped to me were the speakers and the wiring adaptor. The rear speakers went in very easy matching the existing holes for the mounting screws. The wire adaptor made it a plug and go install. No cutting or splicing wires. The front speakers went in easy as well. They talk about drilling the new mounting holes however I just used self tapping metal screws. They went in without a hitch. The speakers sound much better than the factory speakers. They are not the best speaker you can get, however, you are not paying top dollar. They do sound very good. The base is OK probably about what you can expect from a 61/2 inch speaker. Again far better than the factory speakers. The hardest part of the install was removing the door panels. On a Chevy truck/Avalanche there is a screw behind the door lock. you must pry the door lock off the panel and the screw will be exposed. Don't worry the plastic door lock snaps right back in. There is also a screw by the handle. Once these screws are removed the panel slides up and off.

I've read alot of reviews and most stated these speakers have very little bass. On the contrary, the have good bass and the clarity of the high and lows great. Had to replace factory speakers in a 1999 Volkswagon New Beetle because a friend borrow my car and cranked the volume up which blew the driver side speaker. Got tired of hearing the speaker of crackling when the bass was pounding. The Pioneer TS-G1643R are replacement for front speakers, which are louder than the factory speakers with the factory head unit. I am impressed with the quality for the price, didn't expect that it made the back factory speakers sound so cheap. Crutchfield has excellent service as always, and the master sheet was " ON THE MONEY" with the removal of the door panel and the addition of drilling out factory rivets and drilling new mounting holes. And the additional speaker harnes, speaker brackets, and MASTER SHEET made the remove and installation process alot easier. It took about 2 hours because of the extra process of drilling and installing the speaker adapter bracket. If your skeptical just keep the box so you can return it. P.S. I AM ORDERING A SECOND PAIR FOR THE REAR DECK,because they are clear and crisp. And the highs and lows sounds great. But if you want heart stopping, glass shattering, earth shaking bass, you will need to upgrade to speakers with higher wattage and a amp with a sub. BY THE WAY THESE SPEAKERS WERE INSTALL BY MYSELF ON APRIL.18,2011

As always Crutchfield came through with the best deal. Bought these speakers for a 99 Dodge During to replace the blown factory Infinity speakers. The Pioneers are decent speakers. I listen to mostly talk radio so they work just fine for that. However I am pretty disappointed with them with any music at any loud volume. I lost a lot of bass verses the stock blown speakers, and they seem to kinda peak out at a lower level than expected. All in all they work and you get what you paid for so I cant really complain.

The 10 year old stock speakers were on their last legs...I decided to try these speakers based on others' comments and price. I installed them in the mid panels. Also after checking I also found that they would also fit in the door after trimming the speaker frames on 2 sides with a pair of tin snips. Now they replace 5 1/2 in speakers that where in the doors prior...Quality and Clarity are much improved. Unlike others I didn't expect superior deep base from a 6 1/2in speaker. That's what a sub-woofer is for.

The factory door speakers sound was tired and raspy, I had to replace them. I chose a speaker in the Pioneer line that was recommended for the model car I have. The install on the first speakers was a little confusing due to the many different door applications it fits. Once the correct mounting holes were located on the first speaker and it was mounted, the install on the second was a snap. The sound is excellent. These speakers elevated the factory premium sound system to a entirely new level.

These replaced the stock speakers in a Honda Fit. Compared to the stock speakers, these were drastically better at reproducing high frequencies, about the same in mid- range and not nearly as powerful in low range. I'm not sure if the improvements where from the speakers or replacing the factory head unit. I made up for the lows with a pair of subs. These speakers aren't anything special when comparing them to any other aftermarket speakers, but they get the job done, handle more power than the stock ones and the price was right. Nice shallow mounting depth and the adapter rings made them fit nicely without worry of interference with the door glass. Overall, I would buy them again.

Why is it that aftermarket Pioneers sound only marginally better than the factory speakers? I understand that bass response is going to be limited from a 6 -1/2" speaker, but with polypropylene woofers and 4.5 times the power capacity of the factory paper cones, you would think that the sound would be significantly better. I wish I used my money to get a powered sub for the truck and just kept the factory speakers. In the specs, Pioneer claims bass down to 30 Hz...WHAT?! I think that Pioneer needs to recalibrate their testing equipment, it can't be even close. Installation was a breeze thanks to Crutchfield's very detailed instructions, but was a waste of time. Now I have to convince my wife that I still need to buy a sub since the speakers I bought did next to nothing for sound improvement...wish me luck...

I installed these two weeks ago, in our 2002 Durango, after reading many other reviews and considering the opinions of other users. A general consensus that I drew from those reviews was that there was a loss of bass reproduction, but I found little else to dissuade me from purchasing them. After installing them I must agree that there was a definite loss in deep bass compared to the stock speakers. However, I believe the higher frequencies are actually clearer and more resonate. I still have the original rear speakers. With both the front and rear in use, the sound is at least equal to what I had before I made the change.

I used these to replace deteriorated mid-panel speakers in a 2000 Toyota Sienna. Paired with a JVC Arsenal, they're very clean-sounding, although lighter on the bass than I'd like. Still, that's not surprising; they're very good for the price. Crutchfield was great--fast shipment and everything I needed for the installation--but it was still difficult fitting the bracket adapter in the Sienna. Just about all the plastic tabs need to be removed. Maybe you can snap them off without breaking the thing, but I used a plastic cutter to be safe. This was the first time I've ever done this, and the whole thing wound up being more time-consuming than I expected, but if you've got some patience, it's not too difficult.

I bought these speakers to replace the very tired stock 6x9s in the rear deck of my 2000 Chevy Cavalier. Paired with a set of TS-G4643R 4x6 factory replacements for the front door speakers, there is a greatly improved overall sound quality from the Delco factory head unit with the highs being the most notable improvement. Installation was very easy using the supplied factory opening adapters and factory wiring harness connector. These speakers are a great choice for anyone wishing to upgrade stock speakers at a reasonable price. I'm thrilled with their performance in that department. They would not be my first choice for a full system upgrade, however, as I would likely opt for something with more power-handling capability.

I spent days reading reviews of speakers that I wanted to put in my 2000 Dodge Durango. I looked at Boston Acoustics and Polk speakers, but was concerned about the lack of bass reported by most reviews on those. I do not want a window thumping stereo system, but I did want clear defined bass that did not sound like someone beating a cardboard box with drum sticks! These speakers fit the bill perfectly. Ozzy from Crutchfield recommended these over the much higher priced Boston Acoustics and noted the sound range was great since the bass response was in the 30 DB range, unlike the BA's and Polks which are in the 50db range to start. Also, these require VERY LOW power to turn on, so you get great sound at low volumes without having to max out your volume. I put four of these in my Durango and am thoroughly impressed with the sound. The bass is so good that I have absolutely no reason to add an amplifier or sub woofers. These are LOUD and CLEAR. I listen to hard rock for the most part. These are MUCH cheaper than the Boston Acoustics or Polk and DO NOT REQUIRE AN AMPLIFIER OR SUBWOOFER to sound great. Do not let the price fool you. I am using a JVC Arsenal AHD-69 as the head unit. I bought another pair just as backups in case I ever need to replace one and they are no longer made. I am that happy with these speakers. At high volume they can thump your windows if you want.

Excellent drop-in factory replacement for 94 Civic. No cutting.

I replaced the worn-out factory front-door speakers with these, in my 1994 Honda Civic EX Coupe. I'm using the factory head unit. These speakers sound just great and loud, with a full range of sound. Want really deep bass? Try a subwoofer. The installation notes online said I would have to cut the existing speaker enclosures to accommodate the depth of these speakers, but I can testify that this is not necessary. They fit with no cutting, with about 1/8" of headroom. A great product for this price.

I used these speakers to replace blown out infinity speakers in an 2001 Chrysler 300m. They sound great with a stock radio and the wires with the quick slide were too easy to install the whole switch out took about fifteen minutes. Since then I installed a Pioneer dehp 6200 bt and the sound is truely superior now. Great customer service and advice from Crutchfield. I'll be back you have a loyal customer thanks .

Good, for a 2-way

I put these in the rear of my 2004 Subaru Legacy sedan in place of the stock speakers and powered by a Sony Xplod 4 channel amp feeding them 60W RMS and they sound good all the way up to max volume without distorting. I have had them installed for 5 months and put them through their paces and they are holding up well and sounding good. They don't have the definition and clarity of the 3 way RF speakers in the front but they do the job, and for the price you really can't go wrong with them if you're on a budget.

Crisp Clear Sound

Bought four of TS-G1643R's with the Pioneer DEH-12E Deck also. It certainly does meet my standards. The speakers put out nice crisp sounds with the built in tweeters and gives enough bump to enjoy your music. I would recommend these speakers if your just looking for something to replace your old factory speakers, or if you just want something that isn't over the edge.

I was looking for better speakers to replace the stock ones in my RSX and I found them in these pioneer 1643's. They aren't spectacular sounding, but i'm running them on my stock deck.... sound more clear than stock junk paper ones!

I purchased these speakers against my better judgement going off of the review on here and advice from a friend who apparently doesnt know what he is talking about either, these are the worst speakers I have actually paid for ever, I installed them in a 1998 dodge dakota club cab with factory infiniti system in it. Like a dummy I threw away the box before I finished installing them so I am stuck with em..These speakers have a weak sound no bass at all and the quality of sound is just bad, almost as bad as the stock rotted out infiniti speakers I removed... So take my advice and get something a little better, I recently bought a set of the eclipse se6500's to replace them and I will figure something to put these in

Purchased a pair for my Dodge Dakota Quad Cab to replace the factory speakers that were in need of replacing. My truck has the optional Infinity sound system, meaning I have the factory deck. The sound was ok prior to the addition of the new speakers, and now with these Pioneers, the sound is a whole lot better. The tweets have a real clear sound and the bass, has a nice low bump without being overbearing. I am sure that with a new deck the sound would be even better. If they are considered a budget buy or low end speaker, I would say that may be so, but you can't argue the quality. I would recommend replacing your factory speakers with these speakers. And the best part is you will be getting great quality at a very affordable price.

Very Happy

I just put 4 of these into my 2003 Sebring along with the DUAL XHD7714 receiver which I guess Crutchfield doesn't sell any more. The speakers are a perfect match for the receiver. The sound is absolutely amazing compared to the stock speakers that were in there before. The bass is very powerful (makes the doors shake) and the highs are exceptional as are the mids. For a small 2-way speaker I find them to be well worth the money. The Dual Receiver is 200 watts and these speakers handle the power no problem. For a low end speaker, so far so good!
