Overview

Our take on the Pioneer Premier TS-SW1001S4

Pioneer Premier offers a great way to get exceptional bass in tight quarters. These shallow-mount TS Series subs feature a low profile, so you can put them in extremely thin boxes. They'll fit easily behind most truck bench seats while thumping just as hard as conventional subs.

Pioneer's Air Suspension Control System locks in air between the main cone and the internal drive cone, causing it to act like a spring. This eliminates the need for a spider structure, reducing the depth of the sub without sacrificing sound quality. The result is punch that goes just about anywhere.

The TS-SW1001S4 10" shallow-mount sub presents a 4-ohm load and handles up to 300 watts RMS. Pioneer reinforces the injection-molded polypropylene cone with basalt and carbon fiber for rigidity and responsiveness. The 3-layer surround sandwiches a layer of fiber between two layers of urethane to keep your bass under control. Pair this sub with a special low-profile enclosure from Pioneer to get the most out of this slender powerhouse.

Hard Hitting - Excellent small enclosure sub

nvpowerdoc from Henderson, NV (Las Vegas) on 6/12/2009

I used this sub in our Polaris RZR-s UTV (off road vehicle). The sub was mounted in a fiberglass enclosure designed for the RZR. The enclosure measures approximately 0.75 cu. ft., perfect based on the manufacturer's specs for this speaker in a sealed enclosure. The sub is driven by an Alpine PDX-5 five channel amp (4x75Wrms & 300Wrms mono, over 400Wrms tested & certified on the sub channel). The amp drives hard, the Pioneer sub thumps even harder! I am very satisfied with the bass response from this sub in an OPEN-AIR vehicle (not like placing the sub in a trunk). This is an excellent sub for use in limited space enclosures. Price is great and free shipping doesn't hurt.

Features

Shallow Mount Woofer: Pioneer's Shallow-Mount subwoofers are designed to provide wider installation options for a broad range of vehicles. They can be mounted behind or under the seats of many vehicles. The TS-SW1001S4 has interlaced Basalt/Carbon Fiber reinforced IMPP (Injection Molded Polypropylene) composite cones. This cone design is lightweight and rigid, resulting in clean, powerful bass response.

Air Suspension System: Rather than using a standard spider to control cone movement, Pioneer created an Air Suspension system; using two cones with a sealed air space between them. The air locked between the main and drive cones creates a spring-like effect between them. The dual cone structure maintains better linearity, resulting in consistently clear, powerful, wide ranging bass response. The drive cone also deflects air pressure inside the enclosure, which further contributes to the bass output of the small package.

Cast Aluminum Basket: The one-piece cast aluminum basket assembly holds the motor assembly, cone, and magnet structure securely in place. The benefits of this design include reduced internal stress, superior damping, and increased magnetic efficiency.

Surround: The two cones use three-layer, fiber-woven radial surrounds to attach to the basket and form the Air Suspension System. This design keeps the voice coil centered, even under high power, for clear and powerful bass.

Voice Coil: The TS-SW1001S4 has a 6-layer long voice coil wound onto a Phenol Resin Coated Glass Cloth bobbin. This design offers higher sensitivity than conventional designs to provide powerful, tight bass.

Magnet: The woofer has a high-power strontium magnet.

Pole Yoke Design: The woofer's vented and projected pole yoke design allows for better heat dissipation, increased power handling and improved linearity during large excursions by expanding the magnetic field.

Terminals: The spring compression binding post terminals will accept a pin connector, a single banana plug, or bare wire up to 10 gauge.
