I was looking for a stereo to replace my original one. A friend told me about Crutchfield. He had one similar to the one I got and he loved it. When the radio arrived, and in came in two days, everything was in the box. Installation was a breeze thanks to the included instructions. It sounds great and looks awesome!! Thank you for a great experience!!

Pros: Easy installation and great features. The second is second to none and the price can't be beat

    Cons: None

Overall I'm very happy with this stereo, it sounds awesome even with the stock speakers I have in my Toyota. Very easy to figure your way around the settings and what not, but I wish he brightness was better. It's all the way turned up and I still can't see the words on it during the day. The mic works wonderfully for phone calls and it's super easy to answer and hang up. The only other negative is it sticks out of the dash a tiny bit more than I'd like. I was also sent the wrong wiring harness so i had to take the car in to find the right one, installation would have been super easy otherwise.

Pros: Great sound, easy to use/navigate, looks great, easy to install

Cons: Brightness isn't so bright, it sticks out of the dash a tiny bit

I bought this to replace my factory head unit that didn't have usb/MP3 capability. The crutchfield team sent me everything I could possibly need to make it as painless as possible and only took about an hour to install. After powering up the unit, I was impressed by its functionality as well as the Bluetooth option for cord free music enjoyment. This is a great stereo to replace your factory one with, it even has multiple color options to match your dash lights!

    Pros: What's not to like!

Originally expected to have the Pioneer FH-X721BT installed at my local auto sound store because I have never before worked "inside" the dashboard. With the help of on-line videos and Crutchfield's technical support, I breezed through the installation. I saved myself almost two hundred dollars over the local store's estimate for same unit. This head unit sounds great, is plenty powerful, full of features, and affordable. It also gives a cool appearance to the dashboard.

Pros: Sound, power, features, easy to install, and cool appearance.

Cons: Incapable of hooking up to my factory-installed sub-woofer. Buttons somewhat difficult to see/use, especially for my senior citizen eyes. Owner's manual not very good. A bit of a learning curve is necessary to understand how to use/operate all of the features. Illuminated digital read-out/display is very difficult to read in sunlight. The illumination should be more powerful for daytime use.

Installed in my daughters vehicle a week ago. She's happy so that makes me happy. Pretty straight forward as far as the removal and install of the Pioneer. Great sound, bluetooth is cool, and she loves the color options. Crutchfield bailed me out on the steering control install. They were great during the entire process. The fit is perfect and the manual makes it pretty simple to go in and set it up the way you want it. Very satisfied with the purchase.

Pros: Sounds great, bluetooth, USB and AUX ports, many features

    Cons: None so far

I haven't installed a radio in a car in 20 years but this receiver was easy to install. The Crutchfield instructions were specific to my 07 Honda Pilot, including the steering wheel controls. Paired to my iPhone 6 quickly via Bluetooth and works great with my Audible Books app and Pandora. Re-connects with my phone every time I start the engine and automatically resumes audio book where I left off - no need to mash any buttons. It comes with a remote mic that was easy to clip onto the dash trim and makes hands-free calling with Siri a snap.

Pros: Great Bluetooth integration with iPhone 6.

Cons: Hard to see the display in sunlight.

Overall a really great stereo. The install was super easy and went flawlessly. Everything on the unit is solid quality and responsive to the touch. All the features are awesome, although the 'Mixtrax' feature is pretty much a waste of time if you think you're going to get a true DJ style mix. Looks great in the dash and the lighting effects are super nice. I would easily recommend this to anyone looking for an affordable but high quality double-din unit. I've been thouroughly impressed.

Pros: Easy install Great sound quality Huge array of features Solid build quality and buttons

Cons: Display can be dim in the daylight

My wife's stock radio died so I decided to shop for a new one. Not being familiar with the currently available stuff, I was amazed at the features of this one for the price. The radio sound is much better than the stock radio, with the same stock speakers in the car. So now my wife is happy and treats me nicer :-) However I did struggle with understanding the wiring diagram in the manual when I was connecting the radio-provided connector the to custom harness from Crutchfield, since I was trying to follow the instructions of "ignore the wiring colors, but be sure to match functions". I eventually realized that in this case I actually did have to just match colors. I soldered and used heat-shrink tubing with a heat gun I bought at the hardware store (always wanted a heat gun anyway so this was my excuse).

    1998 Toyota Camry LE

    Verified customer (What's this?)
    Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Needed this to get another year out of a 1998 Camry. The OEM radio had died. Decided to spend a touch more for the fancy color and Bluetooth. I am surprised how the cost of car audio has decreased. The Crutchfield package included a Metra cable and good installation instructions for removing dash panels etc. After much research, checking cable voltages, speaker resistance, etc., it was as simple as connecting the Metra harness wires to the Pioneer harness, matching the colors. My 98 Camry had basic radio without an external amp. Plugged the Metra to the Toyota connectors and obviously Pioneer connector to back of unit. Basic antenna (no antenna amp or diversity) and finally plugged in the microphone for hands-free calling. The old mounting brackets aligned to the Pioneer and fit the new radio perfectly. Dropped new unit in, tightened 4 10mm bolts and it was working. For the hands free mic I used a small round file and made a groove on lower left corner of Toyota trim panel and ran mic cable and mounted mic to trim panel with the supplied 3M double sided tape. Looks nice and works well. Two weeks later its working and performing well.

Pros: Fit 1998 Camry LE perfectly Good price and decent build quality Wanted the basic switch operation, no touchsceen Gives Radio/CD/Bluetooth Audio, USB ,Aux Jack, Handsfree Calling - what more could you want in a basic unit.

Cons: Only one I found, was manual should contain a table of connector pins and their use. Describing the connections was confusing.

The installation was easy. I just had to call support to verify some questions before implementation. love the sound and features. The USB port allows me to not have to carry a batch of CD's around and shuffle through them. I also installed the PAC device to be able to use my steering wheel controls. Once again I need to call support to answer some questions. The Crutchfield support is fast and extremely helpful.

    Pros:

Cons: Manual is a little vague. Takes some time to fathom how to work your way through the menus. Once you master it, it is not bad.

Easily installed using Crutchfield instructions and YouTube videos. Not so clear videos on how to operate it. Enclosed manual requires an tedious (for me) learning curve -- it's going to take a while to learn all the features. Overall, a clean installation that upgrades car audio from the obsolete stock unit.

Pros: Installation, including programming the steering wheel control, went very well. BT operation surprisingly good. Front USB for flash drive with MP3 files.

Cons: Very dim display in daylight in my vehicle.(nearly a deal killer, but probably too late to return a now used unit). Not impressed by the help and information provided by the manual.

I received this and there were horrible instructions on the mounting face plate kit. The plastic tabs broke ofon the side pieces made it diffiu\cult to instal. I eneded up screwing the side covers to the stereo and then mounting it. Crutchfield needs a better installation kit than this one cause this one is no good. And one other thing no wiring diagram of how to instal the three connectors that came with the stereo.

This stereo is a fantastic purchase. The only issue I had with the install was the rear mounting bracket did not seem to have an attachment point. Other than that one hiccup the install was smooth and the stereo's sound is amazing. The most amazing aspect to me is the speed of the Bluetooth connection, I turn the car on and it is instantly playing the music from my phone.

I decided to write a review on this stereo. It has great sound and a awesome light display. The biggest downfall and the reason why I had to return this is because in the daylight the display screen is barely visible. If it's really sunny, forget it. You will not be able to see the screen. I tried to make a call on a regular day and couldn't even see the screen and the brightness was alway the way up on the stereo setting. I will spending more money and probably getting a touchscreen stereo.

Pros: Cool light display, great sound, Bluetooth clarity is 100%, preamp outputs

Cons: Odd power button placement, display screen is barely visible in daylight, complicated sound settings, no setting just for treble, FM reception not good compared to factory stereo,

I really love the hands free for my phone. It sound clear when talking to the other person. The audio setting is not exactly where I want it to be but I am learning how to make it sound good for the radio. It has so many different setting to set and I might get it set for one cd and then the next one doesn't quit sound the same, that probably could just be the different songs. Radio when playing seems to be pretty good with the setting. It was pretty easy to put into the car which is great because it fits perfect where the other one was. I love the lights and so does my 8 year old son, he says it is the coolest stereo that he has seen, he also things it is cool that when in the back set he can change the stations and found a song that he likes, but I might not but that is okay. It is a good build and it was really cool that all the stuff came with it to put it in for one low price. thank you for making it that my radio wasn't processed for a low price. It was turning channels on it s own and when I looked it up people where playing around saying that it needed to be blessed, the ghost riding with me didn't like my music, etc. It was a good laugh but I am thankful that it works great now.

Pros: hands free phone adapter, lights and sound

Cons: Trying to adjust the audio

I've been looking for a nice entry level double din for my car so that I can have the hands free phone feature and came across this gem. After watching a few online reviews I decided to get one from Crutchfield. They included all the installation supplies I needed. What to say about this radio.....The buttons and functions take a bit to learn how to navigate but it is chock full of options. From the most noticeable lights that you can mix and match to the EQ, I really was so impressed with this radio that I bought a second one for my other vehicle. The sound quality is excellent, the features are plentiful, and it simply looks great once installed and you choose your color schemes. In one of my cars this radio is simply the replacement for the factory radio but in my other it runs a more complicated system with amplified subs and rears and as I said, extremely impressed. Another reason I purchased two of these is to stream Pandora which they give you a free 60 day trial with the purchase, but my phone carrier also allows you to stream it without charging for data. So it's a win-win! I highly recommend this radio to anyone looking for a fantastic head unit with tons of features, budget or not.

Pros: Super easy to install with the Crutchfield supplied interface. Tons of options and available customizations. Excellent sound quality. The hands free calling works great and I am constantly streaming my Pandora with no issues.

Cons: Not even really a con, but it does take a bit to learn to navigate all the features. The EQ is not a conventional bass/treble, you actually have to set each frequency to your liking but it does offer several preset settings.

My son and I installed this radio in his 2007 Vibe last Saturday and we're both very impressed with the radio, as well as the mounting kit and instructions. A relatively easy, but time-consuming job, but the results are well worth it. he loves the sound and options, I like him having bluetooth capabilities on a car that never offered it. Crutchfield supplied all of the accessories to mount and connect the radio, and all the parts were spot on. An all-around nice, easy-to-install stereo system at a great price. Delivery was very fast too.

    Pros: Features. Price. Delivery.

Cons: A little unclear on the plastic mounting brackets, but after a few attempts, we figured it out.

The radio has an amazing value for all of its features; Bluetooth connection with my phone was easy to set up and worked perfected, The rgb lighting provided perfect ambiance for my "arrest me red" truck, and the multiple setting adjustments allowed me to perfectly tune it to match my speakers and needs. The sound quality is great. Unfortunately, my speakers don't match the quality of the radio so I can't enjoy it's full benefits just yet. Also, it's super easy to use. The instruction manual was clear and concise. The RGB lighting and automatic bluetooth connection are all that needed to be said about its coolness. Lastly, it has a sturdy build. My only complaint is that it is a finger print and dust magnet.

Pros: Value, Sound Quality, Ease of Use, Coolness, Sturdyness

    Cons: Finger-print and dust magnet.

I replaced the factory in-dash 6 disc changer with this stereo and wish I had done it sooner. The sound from the factory speakers is great and I can turn it up really loud with little to no distortion (depending on what I have the bass level at). The Bluetooth feature is great...now I have the ability to play music from my phone and make/receive calls.

Pros: sounds customizable EQ Bluetooth Customizable lights

Great head unit, especially for the price! Always wanted a full-height (aka double-DIN) receiver. Have always been please with Pioneer stuff, this is no exception. After selling my old Pioneer, basically had $10 invested in this one - if you factor in what I would've had to spend for the stuff to install my old unit in my new truck. Crutchfield's discounted installation gear made that an easy choice!

Pros: Doesn't look as out-of-place as a DIN in a double-DIN hole. Fancy color and animation options - can even set custom RGB values (color changes and animations can be disabled) Bluetooth! Works with both Android and Apple - I regretted not spending the extra few bucks for it in my last truck. The hands-free mic seems to work better than most OEM units. Playing Pandora, etc. thru Bluetooth is pretty cool too.

Cons: It can be set to dim when your lights are on (if it's properly connected to 'Illumination')... is still a bit bright for me on the dimmest setting at night tho. Red seems to be the least distracting of the default colors. Haven't tried custom RGB values yet - may help.

As I learn to adjust the features I am liking the stereo more and more. My first impression after installation was luke warm, disappointed at the hollow and flat sounds, but as I am learning to adjust the highs, mids, and lows, as well as boost, there is more to this stereo than initially meets the ears. I really like the hands free phone feature; no more traffic violation fines for me. Lights and colors add if you like bling and spice to your gadgets. For the reasonable price and the features you get for it, I am more than satisfied which makes my commute more fun.

Pros: Great features, Hands free Bluetooth calling is a savior. USB port in the face of the stereo expands my repertoire of favorite songs with a USB stick. It plays CDs which I have tons of, allowing me flexibility in playing those too.

Cons: Minor items: Buttons and controls to adjust the various features to your liking was not apparent at first. I am still learning how to use it after 2 weeks. Although there is a 2-din face adapter to make it fit in my 2003 Camry, its not a snug fit and air/dust can pass through the gaps - not a biggie.

I had originally purchased the 720, installed, and their were issues. In the system was a Sony XR45 amp and an Optima 200 watt amp powering a 12" sub. I was in a seasonal lay off so I had time to be incredibly picky about the install. When I turned it on, all was good except one sides level could only be evened out by setting the balance to the weak side to +10. Called Crutchfield and they had me do some simple tests...the head unit was bad so they sent me another. And this one did kind of the same thing except there was NO sound coming out of the left. Called Crutchfield, repeated the tests, and they sent me a 721. (out of 720's but could not find a diff between the two) And this one worked!! Sound is amazing. The input functions, CD/USB/Bluetooth is wonderful. It took a little time at night (in the dark) getting the colors to match my dash but it was worth it. The only reason I gave it 4 stars was navigating to the audio controls is a pain (2 clicks then sensitive scrolling with the knob to the audio control you want) and just forget about trying to do that during the day. The display can barely be read. If you have your music library plugged in, just accept that your music wasn't all imported at the same kbs (if all songs were at the same kbs, congrats, you are awesomely nit picky) and set the best mix you can then leave it alone. Crutchfield gave me incredible support. Without question, worthy of continuing patronage.

Pros: Sound, illumination, inputs, audio controls and adjustments, Crutchfield

Cons: Daytime visibility, audio controls and adjustments

I was really excited at first, installed and set up real easy. The BT connected and sound quality and interface was good paired to my phone. Calls were clear. Didn't try the CD player. My biggest gripe is the poor FM signal. Driving around town there are areas where the radio will break up. This is on stations that came in perfectly fine with the stock radio. After using it for 2 weeks I can predict when the radio signal will break up along my normal commute. The display is dim, even at the highest setting. This may be because the radio sits high on my dash but that seems pretty common on most modern dashes. If you're not planning on using the radio tuner this is a fine unit for the price. I'm returning it for another unit that has higher FM sensitivity.

Pros: Looks good, good BT interface

Cons: Radio reception, dimness of display.

As someone who has installed sound equipment in quite a few cars, I found this unit to be fairly easy to install and it sounds good for the price. However, don't count on the instructions that came with this unit to help you at all. If you are a beginner at car stereo installations, I recommend having it installed by a professional. My experience alone got me through installation as the instructions were thrown in the trash.

Pros: Nice light show, easy to use controls, good visibility, fit well with conversion kit purchased

Cons: You will get no help from installation booklet. It is confusing and pictures are tiny. Consider having professional install. Otherwise a good unit for the money.

I've always loved Pioneer products and this is overall a quality radio, if you are looking to purchase a new radio for your car and don't want to spend too much but also don't want to be cheap, this one is such a great value. Installation is easy, button layout is very user friendly. i bought this for my 2006 Chevy Colorado and I am currently using the factory installed speakers but nonetheless I am still able to enjoy my music at a higher volume with no distortion. The sleek design gives it a nice look in my truck. My favorite thing about it is the mic that comes with it that you can mount on your sun visor, if you are someone who needs to answer calls throughout the day this radio makes that easy and more importantly safe for you.

Pros: Front USB port, Aux input Rear Aux input (nice if you don't like wires showing) Sleek design

Cons: the only thing that I would've liked for this radio is to be able to display the current track title and the current time at once, you can have one up at a time.

The Pioneer FH-X721BT was a very easy install for my 2000 Honda Accord EX. I'm pleased with all its features that it has and also it really bring out a great sound quality in my speakers. Which are by Kicker (40CS654 and also 40CS6934). I haven't used to usb or aux because the Bluetooth is perfect and works well with my IPhone 6. This product is highly recommended

Pros: Bluetooth works automatically when I get in the car and begins to play my music (have to set it up to do so but very easy to do so, if need help read the owners manual). My dad even says I have a nice system and is comparable to a C-class Benz Multiple settings for how you want to set up your audio sound. Illumination is a nice

Cons: When I use my iPhone 6 to make a call out it has a lag between the two devices that makes you wonder if your phone is actually making the call but within 10 seconds it will figure itself out. Other than that I have no problems with it yet.

I installed the receiver myself - probably would have had a lot of trouble had it not been for the excellent Crutchfield support team who were able to guide me through some of the intriguing parts of the install. It looks good in the car - the display bells and whistles can be easily customized for a desired look.

Pros: Excellent sound from the receiver - FM stations come in clearly - Also great sound from usb, aux, and BT. Good quality for the money.

Cons: The station display is too dim - I have it set to the highest level and it is practically not visible on a bright day. I also wish that there were different types of random play - If there are different levels of folders in a music source the random goes throughout the source and can't be random on a single folder.

I installed the Radio on 4/13. I am still playing with settings. What I think is great about this unit besides the price is this. I have an iphone 6 plus and I can push the center button (MC) for a second and you will hear beep and I say call my wife mobile. Siri talks back and dials flawlessly. Crystal clear phone call through blue tooth which was The Primary reason for the purchase. I mounted the microphone to my visor. If there is a spot to post images I will post. I haven't played with advance features. I didn't download any apps. I launched a playlist from phone and can skip using buttons on unit. I know i can do more with the unit but I haven't tested it yet. I still have to test cd player. I mostly use my phone for music. Music is louder when using a usb cable then through bluetooth and yes it will charge your iphone while connected to the usb port. Use a proper cable not a cheap one from grocery store. Others have commented on brightness. I set the brightness to 10. If in the shade its fine. If you have light coming into vehicle it will be hard to see depending on the location of the radio. On that note. I remember it was hard to see with my factory radio when it's sunny out. I might give it more stars after playing with the settings a little more.

Pros: USB, Blue Tooth, Aux works with Iphone 6 plus

    Cons: Brightness

I bought this unit for my wife's SUV and was mainly looking for bluetooth and sound quality. I wanted something that was easy to use and would connect to her iPhone so when needed she could use it hands free. The fit was perfect and no gaps around the unit in the dash. I wanted a double din radio with Bluetooth so I purchased this model since it was a good price. I installed it and it makes my factory speakers sounds amazing. I connected to Bluetooth one time and now my music starts automatically when I start the car. Definitely recommend this radio.

Pros: Bluetooth, customize display colors, easy to use

I've had this unit a couple of weeks. I'm pleased with all of the features - Bluetooth audio, the options of different (or one) display color, and the ease of use. I'm still trying to figure out how to adjust the microphone so callers can hear me, but this is a great product!

Pros: So far: Bluetooth audio, the lighting dimmer for night driving, the options of display colors, the EQ settings (whether customized or not), the ease of push-button use while driving.

    Cons: The microphone

The unit is very easy to install. The set up is lots of menus with submenus so to get each adjustment you need to go through each category just to get to the one you need. Once you figure that out then it's just time going through each section and dialing it in to what you want for your listening pleasures. Make sure to get the speaker set up and types of a speaker before you think the sound is correct. This part makes a big difference.

Pros: Easy install. great price. Looks good in a older car. Bluetooth works great

Cons: Ease of the setup. Underpowered on its own.

Crutchfield you made this sale, and this entire modification possible. As this was my 1st ever attempt to improve a car stereo I was overwhelmed and ignorant to its many facets. All of your support services were phenomenal and much used needed and appreciated. The head unit was a match for me its, at first glance, a CD playing, radio receiving, interactive piece of appropriate technology with so much more to offer. My friend and I installed the unit and he was immediately thinking of getting 2 of the same for his vehicles, well played Pioneer very well played. It has so many presets you get all the channels you would want. The media player is crisp and although the speakers are bone stock the head unit has breathed new life into the car, and its possibilities are seemingly endless; However due to its exceptional performance I now have to think about getting it speakers too. The Blue Tooth phone capability is shockingly crystal clear with its supplied mic and it was easy to sync. Having skimmed the manual and not being proficient in the devices capabilities we are getting along just as fine as could be. It truly is amazing to experience the music you thought you knew and come to find out it is completely transformed by this device. It also gives the participants a light show as you listen. I foresee the remote will come in handy while cooking out as well as showing it off to spectators. The car's life truly has changed due to this product.

Pros: If you make the switch now, It'll bring music to your ears. You wont have to put up with all your old equipment's quirks anymore. You will probably have a similar moment "What was I listening to before?"? really!

Cons: Warning! Your significant other will not let you touch the controls after you install their new sound system for them.

Its an ok radio for my use, I had to order the new dash section for it to fit, I was under the impression that it would fit the new dash section, it doesn't, the radio sits about an half inch inside the dash section leaving a very noticeable gap all around the face, this looks like a real back yard install. Now I have a constant air flow of cold air coming into the passed her compartment from the gap...very annoying. I contacted Crutchfield tech line, apparently they knew about this and never said anything during the conversation on line when I was researching what radio to install, the suggestion made by the tech was to "stuff black foam into the gap" ahhh yeah...no thats not going to happen. The radio works as it shout but sits kind of cockeyed in the opening of the replacement dash section. I wish I knew this before I cut the inner support for the factory radio.

Pros: The radio works ok, does what is advertised

Cons: Not a good fit, very noticeable gap in the dashboard now, allows constant airflow through the gap around the radio. The radio is recessed into the dash about a half inch. I wish I could post the photos of just how poor it looks.

Great Improvement Over Stock Radio (and Other Bluetooth Options)

    Jeff from Ohio on 3/11/2016

    2003 Toyota Corolla

    Verified customer (What's this?)
    Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

After a month of research, I finally decided to go with this Pioneer receiver, and I'm quite happy with it. The installation was easy, though it was a bit delayed as I had to run out to the hardware store to purchase wire connectors. I guess I thought they would have come with the wire harnesses. But no biggie. Other than that, installation was a breeze in my Corolla thanks to Crutchfield's instructions. I am still getting acquainted with the receiver now that it's up and running, but the sound is really crisp and strong compared to the stock radio I was listening to. Note: About a year ago I had replaced the Toyota speakers in the front doors with new Sony 6.5" 2-way speakers; stock speakers are still in the back though. The improved sound is especially noticeable when using my iPhone and connecting via Bluetooth (and especially since I was previously using an FM transmitter to listen to my phone in the car). And the radio tuner seems very capable, as I am able to pick up some stations that I couldn't before. It looks like it will take some hands-on training to become really comfortable with the menus and sub-menus and how to do this and that. But overall, I am please with my purchase

Pros: Really good tuner and nice sound; ability to somewhat customize the sound (i.e., equalizer, loudness, etc.)

Cons: The display is REALLY dim, even at its brightest setting! It's really hard to see the information if you don't set it at white or maybe yellow. I originally set the display to red and when I was driving in the sun, I could barely see it. I eventually changed it to plain ol' white. It's still a bit dim, but at least I can see it now during the day. I'm sure at night it wouldn't be a problem.

    Built-in Bluetooth

Bluetooth 3.0: The FH-X721BT is equipped with built-in Bluetooth (ver. 3.0), allowing you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your smartphone to the head unit.  In order to use Bluetooth wireless technology, your phone must also be Bluetooth compatible and be able to interpret certain profiles. This unit is compatible with the following Bluetooth Profiles:

    • Hands-Free Communication: HFP 1.6 (Hands Free Profile), OPP 1.1 (Object Push Profile), PBAB 1.0 (Phone Book Access Profile).
    • Audio Streaming: A2DP 1.3 (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile), AVRCP 1.5 (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile).
Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the Pioneer FH-X721BT.

SPP + USB Pairing w/ Guest Mode: With Secure Simple Pairing (SSP), you can easily pair a Bluetooth enabled phone to the FH-X721BT without having to enter pin codes or go through complicated settings (your phone must also support SSP). Up to 3 Bluetooth-compatible devices can be paired to this head unit.

    • USB Pairing for iPhone: You can also pair your Apple iPhone (iOS 5.0+) by simply connecting it to the Pioneer head unit via USB and following a single prompt on the head unit's display.
    • Guest Mode: "Guest Mode" allows you to add and replace a 3rd mobile device instantly to the receiver; Guest Mode is a great feature for a family vehicle with multiple drivers or a driver with multiple devices because it allows users to pair and delete devices easily without a lengthy registration or deletion process.
    • Dual Phone Connect: Once the pairing process is complete, the head unit will automatically connect two phones when in the vehicle to make and receive calls and stream music from both mobile devices.

Hands-Free Communication (w/ External Mic): The FH-X721BT supports wireless hands-free communication (HFP/PBAB) for your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone. And, thanks to the latest Hands-Free Profile (HFP 1.6) with wideband speech capability, the FH-X721BT provides more natural sound quality and details during wireless calls. The head unit will display the caller's information and an audible ring tone will be heard through your vehicle's speaker during an incoming call. You can manually answer an incoming call or have the unit automatically answer the call. The FH-X721BT allows you to carry on a phone conversation from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone using the head unit's external microphone and your car audio speakers. During a conversation you can adjust the volume, as well as switch between the Private Mode (talking directly on your cell phone) and the Hands Free Mode. Using the FH-X721BT, you can dial a phone number in one of the following ways:

    • Phone Book: The phone book in your Bluetooth enabled cellular phone will be transferred automatically when the phone is paired to this unit. After finding the number you want to call in the phone book from the head unit, you can select the entry and make the call. If a lot of numbers are registered in the phone book, you can search for a phone number by the contact person's name alphabetically (A-Z).
    • Presets: You can easily store up to six phone numbers as presets for speed dialing.
    • Call Log: The most recent calls dialed, received, and missed are stored in memory. You can browse them and call numbers from these lists.
    • Voice Dialing (Siri & Google Voice): When paired and connected with an iPhone 4S or later via Bluetooth, the Pioneer head unit has the ability to access Siri through its front-panel controls and external microphone. It also supports Google Voice for select Android smartphones (not compatible with Samsung "S Voice"). You'll be able to dial a phone number or contact via voice command.
Note: The external microphone provides better performance in noisy environments than the integrated microphone found on the front-panel of many aftermarket or factory radios. The microphone features a 13' cord that plugs into the back of the radio, and comes with an adjustable visor-mount clip. The microphone measures 0.475" (diameter) x 1.445" (depth). The unit is not equipped with an integrated microphone.

Wireless Audio Streaming (w/ Advanced Music Navigation): The Pioneer FH-X721BT also supports wireless audio playback (AD2P) and control (AVRCP) of a Bluetooth enabled audio player or smartphone. The head unit can stream music stored on your Bluetooth enabled device or music apps you have downloaded on your device. In addition to basic playback functions (Play/Pause, FF/RW, Skip, Random/Repeat), the FH-X721BT lets you browse your stored music by Playlist, Artist, Album, Song, etc. (AVRCP 1.4+ phones only). The head unit will also display your music's song information; such as Artist name and Song/Album title (app must also support). When an incoming call or outgoing call is in progress from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, audio streaming will be paused so you can take your call.

Siri Eyes-Free Control: When paired and connected with an iPhone with Siri via Bluetooth (not USB), the Pioneer FH-X721BT has the ability to access Siri through its front-panel controls and external microphone. Simply press and hold head unit's phone key to engage Siri and use the included microphone to communicate with Siri. Siri's voice will heard through your vehicle's speakers. All Siri functions including hands-free calling, music search, setting reminders, text-messaging, audible navigation, and more can be done through the FH-X721BT and its microphone. You can even ask Siri to get directions to a destination and the turn-by-turn instructions will heard through your vehicle's speakers, while the on-screen map still displays on your iPhone with Siri. The head unit's audio is attenuated while Siri provides audible directions.

Note: The head unit's LCD touchscreen will only display hands-free calling and Bluetooth audio information (all other functions of Siri are only audible through the Pioneer DVD receiver; visual data will still need to be viewed from your iPhone device).

    Disc & USB (Android) Playback

Compatible Discs: The Pioneer FH-X721BT CD receiver supports playback of CD-Audio, CD-R, and CD-RW discs. This unit can play MP3, WMA, and WAV files recorded on CD-R and CD-RW discs

Front-Panel USB Input (Android Compliant): The CD receiver's front-panel USB (type-A) port allows you to connect a USB Mass Storage Class (MSC) or USB Media Transfer Protocol (MTP) compliant device; such as your Android smartphone or USB thumbdrive. The USB port enables audio playback & control of MP3, WMA, and WAV audio files stored on your portable USB MSC/MTP device through the Pioneer FH-X721BT. Basic playback controls included Play/Pause, FW/RW, Previous/Next Track, and Random/Repeat. Song/artist information such as track, artist, and album name will also be displayed on the head unit. In addition, USB devices that can be charged via USB will be charged when plugged into the CD receiver's USB port (1A) and the vehicle's ignition switch is set to ACC or On.

    • MSC Playback: The Pioneer FH-X721BT's USB port enables playback & control of MP3/WMA/WAV music files stored on your portable USB MSC device, like your older Android smartphone (w/ OS 2.2+ [Froyo/Gingerbread]) or USB thumbdrive device (up to 32GB) through the head unit.
    • MTP Playback: The FH-X721BT's USB port also enables playback & control of stored MP3/WMA music files on your portable USB MTP device, like your newer Android smartphone (w/ OS 4.0+ [Ice Cream Sandwich/Jelly Bean/KitKat]) through the Pioneer head unit.
Note: You cannot use your Android smartphone's touchscreen to control music playback and you cannot select music apps from your smartphone for playback. However, you can continue to listen to stored music on your Android smartphone through the head unit while you check your Calendar, Facebook, Texts, etc on your phone.

MP3/WMA/WAV Playback: The Pioneer FH-X721BT supports the following types of MP3/WMA/WAV files recorded onto CD-R/RW disc or loaded onto a USB MSC/MTP device.

    Media Type CD-R/RW USB (MSC/MTP)
File System ISO9660 Level 1/Level 2, Joliet, Romeo, Long file name FAT 12/16/32
Playable File Types  MP3: bit rate of 8-320 kbps w/ sampling rate of 8-48 kHz
    WMA:
bit rate of 48-320 kbps w/ sampling rate of 32, 44.1, 48 kHz
WAV: bit rate of 8/16-bit w/ sampling rate of 16-48kHz or 22.05-44.1kHz (not compatible w/ MTP)
    Maximum # of Folders/Files 99 folders/999 files 500 folders/15,000 files
Tags ID3 tags (ver.1.0/1.1/2.2/2.3/2.4), WMA tags

File/Track Name List: The Name List feature displays a list of MP3/WMA albums and tracks on a loaded CD or connected USB device, so you can easily access your music. Music files are listed first by Artist name, then by Album name, and finally by Song title.

Song/Artist Information: During MP3/WMA playback, the unit displays any recorded ID3 Tag (ver. 1.x/2.x) and WMA Tag information; including artist, song, and album name.

Playback Controls: The Pioneer CD receiver provides basic operations like Play/Pause, Fast Forward/Rewind, Previous/Next Track, and Repeat/Random for disc and USB device playback. When a compatible Android smartphone is connected, the head unit will control music playback functions; you will not be able to control your music from the smartphone.

Off Insert/Eject + Auto Off Eject: A CD disc can be inserted or ejected with the power off. When a disc is inserted with the power off, the unit will automatically power up and begin playback. When you eject a disc, the unit will automatically power off (unless you switch sources before ejecting the disc).

Installation Angle: Optimum CD playback performance is obtained when the unit is installed at an angle of less than 60-degrees.

    iPhone/Aux Integration

iPod Direct Connection: The Pioneer FH-X721BT's front-panel USB port can be used to connect your Lightning or 30-pin dock connector iPod/iPhone to the head unit. The FH-X721BT supports audio playback, music navigation, information display, and charging of your compatible Apple device.

    • Lightning Connector: If you have a newer iPod/iPhone with the Lightning-connector, you can use Pioneer's Lightning-to-USB cable (130CDIU52, sold separately) or the Lightning-to-USB cable that came with your Apple device to connect your iPod/iPhone to the FH-X721BT.
    • 30-Pin Dock Connector: If you have an older iPod/iPhone with a 30-pin dock connector, you can use Pioneer's dock connector-to-USB cable (130CDIU51, sold separately) or the dock connector-to-USB cable that comes with your Apple device to connect your iPod/iPhone to the FH-X721BT.
Note: The head unit's USB connection provides 1A of current to power and charge your connected iPod/iPhone when your vehicle's ignition switch is set to the 'ACC' or 'On' position (if your iPod/iPhone has no initial battery charge, then the unit will not recognize it).

iPod Audio Playback w/ DAC Bypass: The USB connection allows your iPod/iPhone's stored music to be loaded instantly to the head unit and sound quality to be maximized through the head unit's 24-bit D/A converter, allowing for a Signal to Noise ratio up to 94dB. The Pioneer head unit supports audio playback of stored music, podcasts, audiobooks, and music apps on your iPod or iPhone. You can choose to operate your iPod/iPhone through the head unit's front-panel controls, from its clickwheel/touchscreen, or via a streamed app from your iPhone.

    • Head Unit Mode: From the head unit, you can browse your iPod/iPhone's music library by Artist, Album, Song, Genre, Playlist, Composer, Podcast, or Audiobook. Once you have selected a category, you can search each category alphabetically. In addition, the head unit offers Link Play, which allows you to play songs related to the currently playing song. Link Play lets the head unit create an album list of the currently playing artist, a song list of the currently playing album, or an album list of the currently playing genre. You can also select Random & Repeat functions for a certain song or specific folder. The head unit will display your iPod/iPhone's stored music file information; including Track number, Elapsed playing time, and Song/Artist/Album name. Apple devices w/ iOS 6.0+ will stay unlocked, so you can access music apps; other iPod/iPhone device's clickwheel or touchscreen will be locked during this mode.
    • iPod Mode: In iPod mode, you can navigate the stored music on your iPod/iPhone from its clickwheel or touchscreen, while still being able to view song/artist information and control basic playback functions from the head unit. You will not be able to browse your iPod/iPhone's music by category from the head unit or use Link Play in this mode.
    • App Mode: App mode lets you listen to your favorite music apps from your iPhone (iOS 5.0+) through the Pioneer head unit and your vehicle's speakers. Once you have selected the music app from your iPhone, you'll be able to listen to music from that app through the Pioneer head unit, view song/artist information on the head unit's LCD, and operate basic playback functions such as Play/Pause and Previous/Next Track from the head unit's front-panel control. Not all apps will be compatible with App Mode.

Auxiliary Input: The FH-X721BT is equipped with a front-panel 3.5mm stereo minijack auxiliary input for connecting external components, such as a portable MP3 player.

    AM/FM + Pandora Radio

Supertuner IIID AM/FM Tuner: The Supertuner IIID features Feed Forward Control, which avoids multi-path interference. This pre-detection of interference enables quick filter control and results in less distortion. In addition, the Supertuner IIID creates enhanced stereo during multi-path interference, unlike conventional tuners that collapse to mono. Digital processing reduces distortion, and improves Signal-to-Noise Ratio and stereo separation. Advanced analog technology improves signal processing sensitivity.

    • RDS: The Radio Data System (RDS) feature displays radio broadcast information such as artist, title, and album when listening to compatible AM/FM stations.
    • BSM (Best Stations Memory): The BSM (Best Stations Memory) function lets you automatically store the six strongest stations under preset buttons 1-6 of the currently tuned band. The tuner has 3 FM banks and 1 AM bank. You can store 6 presets for each bank giving you a total of 18 FM presets and 6 AM presets.
    • Local Tuning: Local seek tuning lets you tune in only those radio stations with sufficiently strong signals for good reception. There are 4 levels of sensitivity for FM and two levels for AM. The higher settings allow reception of only the strongest stations, while lower settings let you receive progressively weaker stations.

Pandora Internet Radio: The free Pandora App (either from iTunes Apps/Google Play) lets you play music from the Pandora music service through the Pioneer FH-X721BT using your USB-connected Apple iPhone (iOS 7.0+) or Bluetooth paired Android smartphone. Your Apple iPhone must be connected to the FH-X721BT via the CD-IU51/CD-IU52 Pioneer iPod connector cable or the connector-cable that came with your iPhone. Your Android smartphone must support A2DP/AVRCP/SPP Bluetooth profiles and be paired with the Pioneer receiver. Your iPhone or Android smartphone will also need an active Data Plan account with connection to the Internet via 3G, EDGE, or WiFi. The FH-X721BT provides control over the Pandora music service and displays Artist, Album, and Song information.

    • Station List: You can select Pandora stations from your Station List by date or alphabetically (A-Z).
    • Shuffle Station List: You can listen to songs played randomly from various stations within your Station List.
    • New Stations + Delete: New stations can be created based on the current songs or artists playing. You can also delete a station from your Pandora station list.
    • Skip Songs: You can skip song tracks within a station. You cannot skip back to a previous song. Pandora limits the number of skips allowed.
    • Thumbs Up/Down: You can give songs a thumbs up or thumbs down to help Pandora personalize stations to suit your preferences.
    • Bookmarking: The song/artist currently being played can be bookmarked & stored in your Pandora account.

Note: Access to the Pandora service will depend on the availability of a cellular and/or WiFi network for purposes of allowing your iPhone to connect to the Internet. Pandora is not supported in Canada & only available in the United States.

    Audio Section

24 Bit D/A Converter: The Pioneer in-dash head unit utilizes a 24-bit digital to analog converter for superior sound quality.

MOSFET Amplifier: The FH-X721BT is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit. The power specifications for the FH-X721BT are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers.

    • CEA2006 Specs: 14 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
    • Continuous Power Output: 22 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 50Hz-15kHz, 5% THD)
    • Maximum Power Output: 50 watts x 4 channels
Note: The rear speaker outputs can be set to provide full range output with full fading capability, or they can be set to provide non-fading subwoofer (low-pass) output. When the rear speaker outputs are set to subwoofer mode, the rear preamp outputs also switch from full range to subwoofer outputs. When set for subwoofer operation, you can connect the rear speaker leads directly to two small 4-ohm passive subwoofers or a dual voice coil sub with 4-ohm voice coils. If you prefer to use a single 2-ohm subwoofer, you can connect the woofer to one set of speaker leads, leaving the other set of rear leads disconnected. The maximum output provided when a 2-ohm load is connected to one set of leads is 70 watts.

4ch/2V Preouts: The Pioneer FH-X721BT features two pair of 2.0-volt preouts. The unit's Rear/SW preouts can be configured as fading rear-channel outputs or a non-fading subwoofer outputs. When the head unit's RW/SW preouts are configured as a subwoofer output, you can select the frequency of the low pass filter (50Hz, 63Hz, 80Hz, 100Hz, or 125 Hz), select the filter slope (-6/-12dB), select the subwoofer phase (normal/reverse), and the subwoofer gain (+6 to -24).

Equalizer: The Pioneer FH-X721BT features a Preset & Custom EQ. The built-in equalizer offers 7 preset sound modes (Powerful, Dynamic, Vocal, Natural, Custom 1, Custom 2, and Flat) suitable for the music genre of your choice. The two Custom modes allow you to manually adjust the head unit's 5-band EQ (80Hz, 250Hz, 800Hz, 2.5kHz, 8kHz) from +/-6dB. Custom 1 can be set separately for each source (except for USB/iPod/Pandora); while Custom 2 and the other 5 presets are shared settings used for all sources.

High-Pass Crossover: When you don't want low-frequency sound to be heard through your front or rear speakers, you can simply active the head unit's HPF (high pass filter). By activating the HPF, only frequencies higher than those in the selected range are output from the front or rear speakers. The high pass filter crossover can be set to 50Hz, 63Hz, 80Hz, 100Hz, 125Hz, 160hz, 200Hz or Off. The slope level of the HPF can also be adjusted to -6dB or 12dB.

Advanced Sound Retriever: The Advanced Sound Retriever automatically enhances compressed audio and restores the original richness of the recording. Hear the detail, warmth, and clarity, the way the artist intended it, from all of your highly compressed MP3 and WMA files stored on your USB thumbdrive, Android smartphone, iPod/iPhone, or Bluetooth device. By restoring data (especially higher frequencies) that tends to get lost in the digital compression process, Pioneer's Advanced Sound Retriever technology enhances audio reproduction nearly all the way up to 20 kHz frequencies

Audio Level Settings: The Pioneer FH-X721BT CD receiver offers a variety of audio settings to tailor the bass, treble, and volume level to your preference.

    • Bass Boost The FH-X721BT features a bass boost function which can be used to enhance low-frequency bass sound. The bass boost function can be set between 0-6.
    • Loudness: The Loudness feature compensates for deficiencies in the low and high sound ranges at low volume. You can set the Loudness feature to Low, Mid, High, or Off.
    • Source Level Adjustment (SLA): This function lets you adjust the volume level of each source to prevent radical changes in volume when switching between sources. Settings are based on the volume level of the FM tuner, which remains unchanged. Each source can be independently adjusted from -4dB to +4dB.

MIXTRAX: Drawing from Pioneer's rich DJ heritage and passion for music, MIXTRAX delivers a unique DJ infused listening experience to listeners in the car. MIXTRAX is an innovative Pioneer technology that creates a non-stop mix of your music library complete with a range of DJ-inspired effects. MIXTRAX takes your typical music listening experience and creates a non-stop mix of your music with 9 random DJ effects and transitions, by removing the breaks and pauses normally introduced between tracks and replacing them with various beats. MIXTRAX is compatible with USB-connected iPhone, iPod, USB MSC device, and select Android devices. There is also a Short Playback option which limits the amount of time each track plays; select from 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, or 3 minutes.

Note: The MIXTRAX function does not work in App mode or with the Pandora App for iPod/iPhone, and is not supported by USB MTP devices. The Advanced Sound Retriever function is disabled when MIXTRAX is activated.

    Display Features

Color Customization: Color Customization lets the user match their receiver illumination to their vehicle's interior lighting. Over 210,000 colors are available to match the illumination of almost any car. The button illumination and display illumination colors can be customized separately for an endless number of color combinations. You can select from 5 preset colors (White/Red/Amber/Green/Blue), customize an illumination color (by adjusting Red/Blue/Green brightness levels), or scan through a variety of colors.

Brightness Control: You can manually adjust the brightness (1-10) of the head unit's display to suit your viewing needs. You can also sync the receiver's illumination to the head units' clock or your vehicle's headlights. To dim the receiver's display automatically when the vehicle's headlights are turned on, you'll need to hardwire the orange/white wire of the head unit's harness to your vehicle's parking light circuit.

MIXTRAX Illumination: MIXTRAX features a club-style illumination that enhances the mood with a dynamic dance club-like lighting effect. As MIXTRAX begins, lights start pulsing to the beat of the music, adding an extra level of entertainment. You can choose different patterns of lighting variations from sound pressure level or low-pass synchronization modes. The lighting effects work like a spectrum analyzer, reaching peak colors based on the intensity of the music.

Clock Display: When the Clock Display has been turned on, pressing and holding the "SRC" button turns off audio output, but the clock display and button illumination remains on (you can press the "DISP" button to turn off). When the Clock Display has been turned off, pressing and holding the "SRC" button turns the unit off completely. Even if you have turned the radio completely off you can view the clock display by pressing the "DISP" button. The clock will then remain On until you turn it back Off. When the unit is On, you can choose to have the clock display during playback of each source.

Demo Mode: This unit features a Demo mode which can be turned On/Off within the menu.

2-DIN Chassis: The Pioneer FH-X721BT has a 2-DIN chassis (also known as "Double -DIN"), and will fit in many vehicles with a large dash opening. The unit can be ISO-mounted using factory brackets. There is also an optional double-DIN sleeve (130ADTV133, sold separately) available for this unit that will allow you to Euro-mount or custom mount the Pioneer head unit in  your vehicle. As always, please consult Crutchfield's Outfit My Car to verify fit with your vehicle.

    Remote Control

Wireless Remote Control: The FH-X721BT comes with an IR wireless remote control. The remote allows you to control the volume, switch between sources, pause playback, skip music tracks, change display info, and answer/end Bluetooth phone call. You can also mute the volume (function that cannot be performed from the front panel).

Steering Wheel Remote Compatibility: The head unit features an OEM steering wheel remote control input on the rear of the unit that lets you keep your vehicle's factory radio steering wheel remote controls when used with an optional steering wheel audio control adapter (sold separately). Please consult Crutchfield's Outfit My Car to see if your vehicle is compatible.

Original plan was to just replace the original factory JBL speakers in my 2001 Toyota Sienna XLE. The problem was the original JBL system was 2.2ohm, and the only speakers available were 4ohm. Crutchfield prices on this radio was very reasonable when you include their tech-support and the free wire harness. I chose this unit based on price, having a CD player, a front aux input and bluetooth handsfree. Now I can bypass the original JBL amplifier completely and go with a 4ohm system. I have an iPhone 6. Both devices recognize each other (it does take a little while). However, the pairing of the devices never completes - fails for an unknown reason. Other devices pair with the iPhone. There's seems to be a problem between the stereo and the iPhone 6s that I have yet to figure out.

It takes a few seconds to connect but it is excellent. I use my old phone for music and both phones pair so I can use my new phone just for calls.

How big is the font on this vs 820 and 3800? And how is it in sunlight vs the 3?

I am an audio amateur unsure of comparable sizing 820 & 3800, Crutchfield product comments about the supplied brackets mentioned credit card sized border gaps. The Pioneer Head Unit appears to be a fit for the double din application in my Scion XA. If your query is related to readability, the screen for menu functions and titles seems big enough and legible. Your color selection of the font display can & could be trouble in different sun light settings; the display has a dimmer function which might help in lighting (I don't know about this 3). There are many, almost too many, options to choose from for you and your car. I can presume you feel as I did because you have these questions related to your next purchase. The choice boils down to pros and cons can you observe these units at a store first? How is the return policy for Crutchfield (I think it was good) and would they be engaged with you in this trial and error ordering? I feel that most internet shopping has a great deal to do with returns. Keep asking and reading if you have the time. I went to the tech support at Crutchfield and they showed me the way, products for my needs , and they also supplied the wire harness and brackets. Perhaps you to could find more appropriate answers to your specific questions there and your new system too. This Head unit for my gal does its job well +, sound +, ease of install +. Need manual on occasion as it's very new and high tech -

Not sure if there is any difference between model sizes, double DIN is standardized. Sunlight glare depends on the angle of the dash. At zero degrees glare is not an issue.

Yes it is. Bluetooth works with Siri and the USB will auto play Itunes list. You can also browse playlists and what not through the unit.

14 watts RMS CEA-2006/50 peak x 4 channels. You will find this listed under the "Product Highlights" section on the stereo's main webpage. I hope that helps! My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=5

Yes, it shows artist, album, song information. Although, I am not sure why, occasionally it will show just the Album name.

Thanks for your question. For information on comparing two or more models I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences and help you make the best choice for your system and your budget.
