3-D Dot Matrix Display: This advanced full-dot LCD + CFL technology enables 4-level gradation for remarkably smooth and attractive display capability. A dedicated high-capacity display memory allows 3-D animations and richly detailed setup screens, and the CFL backlight means it's super-bright.
Day & Night Faceplate: During daylight conditions, the faceplate is a solid brushed aluminum color. At night, or whenever it's dark in your vehicle, the outside edges of the faceplate illuminate in blue.
Super Bright Display: With a Super Bright Display, this unit provides high visibility even in daylight. There's even a 3-step dimmer so you can adjust the brightness to match day and night driving conditions. In addition, you can adjust the display contrast from 1 to 5 for optimum readability.
Spectrum Analyzer Display Patterns: You can select from the following 6 display patterns: A (shows a cube that continues to change), B (shows a sphere that continues to change), C (shows the image of a skateboard), D (shows a text pattern), E (shows a race track), or STD (shows a standard 9-band spectrum analyzer).
MOSFET50 Amplifier: This receiver is equipped with a 50 watts x 4 (peak) MOSFET amplifier for low distortion and high power output.
MP3 Playback: This unit can play MP3 files recorded on CD-ROM, CD-R, and CD-RW discs in ISO9660 Level 1/Level 2, Joliet, and Romeo formats. Each disc should have a maximum of 8 trees and 254 files/folders. During MP3 playback, the following functions are available:
- Folder up/down
- File up/down
- File audible search
- Direct Folder Selection: using the supplied remote control, you can directly access folders
- Direct Folder Selection from Folder Name: scrolling through the names of folders, you can directly access the folder you want
- Random Play: all files in all folders are played in random order
- Folder Random Play: all files in the current folder are played in random order
- Repeat Play: repeats the current file
- Folder Repeat Play: repeats the current folder
- Scan Play: plays the first 10 seconds of each file in all folders
- Folder Scan Play: plays the first 10 seconds of each folder
- Resume Play: if the unit is shut off or switched to the tuner mode while an MP3 CD is playing, the next time CD is selected as the source, playback will resume from the point where it left off
- Name Display: this unit can display folder and file names
- ID3 Tag Display: this unit cannot display ID3 Tag information
Multi-Stage Noise Shaping: This technology helps prevent zero-cross distortion and non-linear distortion. It requantizes the CD data, "shaping" it to move digital noise out of the audible range. Pulse width modulation (PWM) then reconstructs the analog waveform with true precision.
S-HDB (Super High Definition Bass): This feature accentuates bass output even at high volumes. This is different from ordinary loudness controls that often become ineffective when volume is raised. You may select "BOOM" (strong bass boost), "TIGHT" (moderately emphasized bass), or "Off".
Alphatuner V: The tuner is designed to help suppress multi-path distortion and reduce the problem of radio signal reflections in metropolitan areas. It also features increased sensitivity for weak signal areas.
Subwoofer Preamp Outputs: In addition to the front and rear preamp outputs, this unit has a set of subwoofer preamp outputs. The volume level of the subwoofer preamp outputs is adjustable from -6dB to +6dB in 2dB increments. In addition, these outputs have a low-pass filter that can be set to 80Hz or 120Hz.
Auxiliary Input: A set of female RCA jacks is provided to allow the connection of a portable audio source. Just connect your portable cassette, MD or MP3 player to this unit, and you can listen to the audio from the portable player through the speakers in your mobile audio system. The jacks are on a 6.5" long pigtail attached to the back of the unit.
Blinking Security Indicator: When the face is removed, a red LED blinks on the front panel of the radio. The security indicator can be deactivated.
Compatibility: This unit can control 6-disc and 8-disc Panasonic CD changers.
Changer Controls: In addition to basic disc navigation features, this unit has the following changer controls: direct disc access, disc intro scan, track intro scan, track repeat, disc repeat, disc random, and all disc random.Multiple Changer Control: Using the optional CA-CD55 dual changer adapter, you can control two compatible Panasonic changers with this head unit.
Display Illumination/Clock Display: Pressing and holding the Source button turns off audio output, but the clock display and face/button illumination remain on. Using the DISP button in this mode, you can switch the clock display and face/button illumination on and off. If you leave the clock display and face/button illumination on, they are "keyed". If you turn the clock display and face/button illumination off, they only turn on when the unit is turned on ("unit on" operation).
