About the JL Audio 10W3v3-4

JL Audio Built In USA Remarkably realistic bass

JL Audio designed their W3v3 subwoofers to deliver powerful, accurate bass with a medium-power amplifier. Their extensive motor assembly research resulted in a design that ensures smooth, precise cone movement at any power level. Exclusive cooling features shunt heat away from the sub's internal motor structure for long term durability and reduced distortion. The W3v3 sub works well in a sealed or ported enclosure.

Features

Dynamic Motor Analysis (DMA): DMA is JL Audio's proprietary method aimed at improving dynamic motor behavior. As a result of DMA optimization, W3v3 motors remain linear in motor force over a very long range of excursion, and also maintain a highly stable fixed magnetic field in the gap over a wide power range. The result is vastly reduced distortion, faithfully reproduced transients, and tight, clean, articulate bass.

Floating Cone Attachment Method (FCAM): JL Audio's patented FCAM technology is an innovative method of bonding the surround/cone assembly to the voice coil/spider assembly. This assembly technique ensures proper surround geometry in the assembled speaker for better excursion control and dynamic voice coil alignment.

Vented Reinforcement Collar (VRC): The Vented Reinforcement Collar is a composite structure that addresses two issues related to reliability. By reinforcing the critical junction between the cone, voice coil and spider, the VRC greatly reduces failures due to glue breakdown or material weaknesses. It does this by greatly increasing adhesive contact area and providing stress relief to the spider material at excursion extremes. the VRC also feature slots that facilitate air flow directly onto the voice coil windings to reduce thermal compression effects and enhances reliability.

Spider/Lead Wire Assembly: The W3v3 features a unique spider, coil and terminal subassembly which is assembled prior to installation in the speaker frame for optimum alignment and glue-joint integrity. The spider is insert-molded into a composite carrier tray which also incorporates the terminal assembly and lead wire strain relief features for enhanced reliability and optimal alignment of parts. The flying lead wires are carefully controlled and strain-relieved without resorting to woven-in lead wires, which can degrade spider performance.

Elevated Frame Cooling: The elevated frame design of the W3v3 delivers high-velocity air flow through slots directly above the top plate to the voice coil of the speaker. This not only enhances power handling, but also sound quality by minimizing dynamic parameter shifts and power compression.

Surround Stress Relief: By creating a radiused feature on the edge of the cone, stress is relieved from the surround material at maximum forward excursion, resulting in longer life and more consistent surround behavior.

Customizable Trim Ring: The woofer comes with a removable ring made of black ABS plastic which can be painted to match the installation theme and create a personalized look. You can purchase optional grille mesh inserts which are specifically designed to fit into the inner diameter of the trim ring.

Enclosure Compatibility

Recommended Sealed Box Volume: The sealed box size recommended by JL Audio is 0.625 cu/ft. A diagram is provided in the owner's manual for a sealed box with external dimensions of 18" W x 11" H x 9" D, assuming 3/4" thick material. (If you are using 5/8" thick materials, you should subtract 1/4" from each dimension.)

Recommended Ported Box Volume: The ported box size recommended by JL Audio is 1.125 cu/ft. A diagram is provided in the owner's manual for a sealed box with external dimensions of 23" W x 12" H x 13.125" D, assuming 3/4" thick material. (If you are using 5/8" thick materials, you should subtract 1/4" from each dimension.) A slot port is recommended with the following dimensions:

  • Slot Width = 1.25"
  • Slot Height = 10.5"
  • Slot Length = 28.125" (a right angled port with a 15.5" extension)

I have a thousand watts going to three of those and it bangs! I can't believe how loud it is. You could probably get away with 6-700 watts rms but you might as well get a thousand watt amp. It's always better to have more and not need it all than to have less and not have enough.
[ DAVID  Dec 02, 2020 ]
A
Get the punch1000/1 or jl 1000/1
[ RICHARD M  Dec 02, 2020 ]

Get 2 - 4ohm w3's .. wire them parralel 2 ohms mono ... u need 1000 watt amp @ 2 ohms ... keep gain down to a minimum ... depending on your input voltage ! Those subs sound clean sealed 0.625 plus or minus air space after speaker displacement .. i had 4 in sealed boxes on a rockford t15000/1 ..... pounded crystal clear

What kind of sealed box would you recommend for this 10' sub? There are a lot of pre fab boxes out there, I'm sure some are much better built than others.

Crutchfield has them you need at least 0.70 before speaker subtraction

We have our own boxes to offer that are built strong enough to hold this subwoofer and is just about a perfect match for the box volume the sub needs to be in to play its best. Here it is: www.crutchfield.com/p_777BB1064S/item.html My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=101

Q
How deep dose the box need to be to mount?
[ BRAD  May 18, 2017 ]

Not 9 inches the 10w3 is like 6" mount depth and theres no pole vent so it could be right up against back box practically
[ RICHARD M  Dec 02, 2020 ]
A
At least 9 + inches.

Q
I'm new to subwoofers, but if I were to buy only one of the JL Audio 10W3v3-4 subwoofer, could I still achieve a 500RMS and peak power handling of 1000watts?
[ David A7789  Dec 28, 2016 ]

A
Make sure amp will do 500 rms at 4ohms .... probably need rocford prime amp or like other guy said regulated amp 4/2 ohm
[ RICHARD M  Dec 02, 2020 ]
A
If your amp has a regulated power supply for get what I just said .the older (better) amps have a non regulated power supply ampts are usually over rated and even if not you should have an amp that can produce a lot more powuer than your speaker is rated so you have cleaner sound more reserve power for bass
[ Rick  Jan 08, 2017 ]
A
It depends on the amp .when you bridge an amp ( mono) one speaker or wired in series it halves the restance so on this speaker @ 3 ohms that amp would see 1.5 ohms and that would burn up most amps if you try it don't ever run it with the car not running and use big wire and a cap to help it not not fry
[ Rick  Jan 08, 2017 ]
A
The specs on this speaker show 500RMS continuous for one speaker.
[ Paul  Dec 29, 2016 ]
A
RMS rating is per sub. So... double check ratings and if they match than yes.
[ Carlos  Dec 28, 2016 ]

Q
I'm kind of an idiot when it comes to watts and ohms. I currently have an XD 700/5. Is the 10W3v3-4 an appropriate sub for this amp?
[ Brian  Dec 24, 2013 ]
1 answer
A
You will want to contact an Advisor by phone or online chat to discuss compatibility with your current system. They will be able to pull up your gear and see if this will integrate well. If it does not, then they will also be able to discuss other options with you.
