Cool bass solution

If you're looking to add bass to your ride without sacrificing trunk space, here's a great solution. Pair two of these JL Audio C5-525cw-RP woofers with the right components for fatter, fuller guitar and bass in your soundstage.

Extended cone travel

JL Audio built this 5-1/4" woofer for extended cone travel so it'll move more air, putting more oomph in your music when the rhythm section kicks in. This C5 Series woofer uses the same patented cooling technology developed for the ZR Series speakers, so it'll play with a wide dynamic range at all volumes.

Versatile sub

If you've already got a sub in the back, adding two of these woofers is great for adding some midbass punch in your interior. Even better, install JL Audio's C5-525 5-1/4" component system up front, then use two of these matched woofers in the rear to reinforce midrange and upper bass performance while keeping your soundstage right up front.

To drive this single subwoofer, we recommend a mono amplifier rated between 55 and 110 watts RMS at 4 ohms. For more information, please refer to our article on How to Match Subwoofers and Amplifiers.

Features

Cast Alloy Baskets: The Evolution C5 woofers feature cast alloy woofer baskets and incorporate JL Audio's patented Elevated Frame cooling system. This cooling technology, also found on the flagship ZR component systems and W7 and W6v2 subwoofers, allows air to flow directly across the top plate and onto the voice coil windings to greatly improve linearity at all listening levels.

Motor Structure: The DMA (Dynamic Motor Analysis)-optimized motor structure achieves outstanding linearity.

Woofer Cones: The cone and suspension elements were designed and manufactured by the world-famous Dr. Kurt Müller & Co of Germany. The speakers feature low-mass, mineral-filled polypropylene cones with butyl rubber surrounds. The cone and surround are inherently well damped to deliver an uncolored, neutral bass without any coloration. The speakers are also equipped with symmetrical-roll, hybrid-weave spiders.

It doesn't need a box. I just cut out a between my speakers and used a grille. Looks good and sounds fantastic. [ ODIS  Jan 15, 2019 ]
I don't recommend it as this woofer will pull less power from the stock amp and not even play as well as the stock subwoofer did. Its best to install a new amp to run it. My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=101 [ Paul  Jul 11, 2018 ]  Staff
A radio with 50 watts RMS output will definitely be able to drive these woofers. Just make sure that radio has a way to limit the audio going to its amp outputs so that these woofers don't get anything over 5,000Hz and they will work well together!
