About the JL Audio CS212G-W6v3

JL Audio Built In USAGreat bass without the loss of space

It may look like something from a sci-fi movie, but JL Audio's CS212G-W6v3 dual 12” sub enclosure is actually a design marvel. JL Audio put a W6v3 12” subwoofer into each end of a sealed enclosure that takes up much less room than conventional dual 12" subwoofer boxes. This system handles up to 1200 watts RMS so it'll deliver that fat low end you want, and it's wired to a 4-ohm load for a single amplifier channel.

JL Audio's packed two full-sized subs into a surprisingly small package.

One tough sub enclosure

While they may have cut the corners on the medium density fiberboard (MDF) enclosure, JL didn't cut corners on quality. They incorporated their V-Groove™ construction to ensure rigid box joints that won't leak air or resonate. Combined with the slim subs, this new design gives you a sturdy sub box that doesn't take all your cargo space. JL finished off this ProWedge enclosure with tough polymer grilles on each end that completely protect the subwoofers, unique for an enclosed subwoofer design.

Features

Enclosure: The enclosure is sealed and houses two 12W6v3-D4 12" dual voice coil subwoofers, mounted at opposite ends and firing in opposite directions. This opposed driver configuration effectively cancels vibration and movement of the enclosure. Each woofer's dual 4Ω voice coils are internally wired to a single terminal, presenting a 4Ω final impedance.

Terminal: The enclosure has one pair of 5-way binding posts; they will accept pin connectors, spade connectors, single banana plugs, dual banana plugs (standard 3/4" width), and bare wire up to 10 gauge.

Enclosure Dimensions:

  • Width: 14-3/8"
  • Height: 16-1/4"
  • Depth: 26-1/4" (including the grilles)

Subwoofer Technology:

  • Dynamic Motor Analysis (DMA): DMA is JL Audio's proprietary method of improving dynamic motor behavior. As a result of DMA optimization, the 10W6v3-D4 motor remains linear over a long excursion range, and also maintains a stable fixed magnetic field in the gap over a wide power range. The result is reduced distortion, faithfully reproduced transients, and tight, clean, articulate bass.
  • Pole-Vent Airflow Control (PVAC): The bullet-shaped structure inside the pole-vent directs airflow and increases air velocity to effectively reduce voice coil temperature, leading to improved fidelity and reliability.
  • Floating Cone Attachment Method (FCAM): JL Audio's patented FCAM technology is an innovative method of bonding the surround/cone assembly to the voice coil/spider assembly. This assembly technique ensures proper surround geometry in the assembled speaker for better excursion control and dynamic voice coil alignment.
  • Elevated Frame Cooling System: The elevated frame design of the 10W6v3-D4 delivers cool air through slots directly above the top-plate to the voice coil of the speaker. This not only enhances power handling, but also sound quality by minimizing dynamic parameter shifts and power compression.
  • Engineered Lead Wire System: JL Audio's engineered flying lead-wires have carefully designed entry and exit support structures molded into the terminals and the voice coil collar. They are jacketed to further reduce the likelihood of shorting and fatigue. The result is predictable high-excursion lead-wire behavior with long term reliability, and none of the compromises inherent to a woven-in lead wire system (when attached or woven into the spider material, lead-wires can alter the spider's motion, leading to asymmetrical spider behavior).

Q
What is the best amp for this subwoofer now but at a later time I plan on adding aftermarket speakers? 2 front door speakers, 2 front door tweets, 1 center dash speaker and 2 rear deck speakers, 2 rear tweets and 1 free air rear deck woofer. I just want 1 amplifier to be able to do everything now and still be able to use the same amplifier when im ready to add the other speakers.

All depends on your end goal. If you are building a thump machine or just clean and loud. JL will do both. Sealed boxes require more power to overcome dampening, then the JL W6 is a monster. If you got the cash I would go with a good mono amp paying attention to the 4 ohm rated output. I would give it at least 100% of your planned wattage. So if you go 1000 watts total on the speaker side, feed it a 1000 watts on a mono. If you are trying to not go that big. Tone it down and go with a single w6 version. You can then get JL 1000/5 channel and give sub 600 watts @ 2ohm in 1 amp with 4 channels to power the rest of the system later. I have this in my sons car, plenty loud! I'm currently building system with this sealed 2 w6 box with the HD1200/1 and the VX800/8 for the mids and highs. Only going to use 7 channels I want to keep that center channel. I have a feeling that it will be too loud for me. LOL. However I will keep the gain down and the system will have plenty of headroom to keep a clean precise sound. VX has built in DSP and can handle the sub on the same dsp sending the signal to the HD1200. Now here is the part that gets tricky. MAKE SURE YOUR CARs ELECTRICAL CAN HANDLE THE POWER! My car has 175 amp alternator........this could be my weak link. I have a 2 farad cap to help cushion the load. Just keep that in mind, the car still has to have enough power to power its own things. Who need headlight lights and HVAC when you got a nice sounding system. LOL.!

The best amp hands down for this sub is the JL audio HD 1200/1. It's amazing and I've never heard a box sound this incredible and clear. However if your adding all those speakers later do yourself a favor and also get the 800 VXI JL Audio amp. It'll handle everything uou mentioned and more. To get most out of Prowedge you need to keep the 1200HD on the Prowedge. 12W6's are truly the best subs every made. I've been doing systems since 1988. Nothing comes close. C Paul

It likes headroom. I matched it with the JL 1200 mono amp, forgot the model. I also have the kicker 1200 in a different vehicle pushing one 12 and am impressed by that thing, much cheaper too. I would probably recommend a class D amp over 1000 watts. Hope this helps.

Q
Can this be wired to present a 2 or 1 ohm load to the amp without taking it apart?

A
The Dual 4 Ohm voice coil woofers cannot be wired to present a 2 Ohm final load. You would need to open the enclosure and re-wire the coils to present a different (1 Ohm or 8 Ohm) impedance.
