JL Audio Built In USA High-powered sub in a High Output enclosure

The "H.O." in JL Audio's H.O. Wedge enclosed subwoofer systems stands for "High Output," and that's exactly what you'll hear and feel. High Output Wedges deliver efficient, accurate bass, with better sound quality than conventional ported and bandpass boxes. The woofer sits in recessed baffle, part of a separate chamber within the enclosure, and the front-firing port output combines with woofer output for extremely efficient performance.

JL Audio HO110-W6v3

The port provides air flow for high output, while also making the enclosure stronger.

This HO110-W6v3 enclosure hosts a powerful 10" W6v3 subwoofer, and its 2-ohm impedance makes it a great match for a powerful mono amplifier. JL Audio designed the enclosure as a perfect mate for the sub so you can count on maximum performance.

Hand finished by JL Audio

JL Audio employs advanced woodcutting machinery to fabricate these enclosures, which are finished by hand at their facility in Florida. The compact design saves precious cargo space, while strong internal bracing and the recessed 1" thick mounting baffle maintain the enclosure's integrity and protect the sub.

Features

H.O. Wedge Enclosure: The HO110-W6v3 enclosure is designed around JL Audio's 10W6v3 subwoofer, using V-groove MDF construction with internal bracing to ensure structural integrity. The patented, chamber-coupled port design wraps around the inner enclosure boundary and terminates just above the woofer, coupling the port output to the woofer's direct output. This also provides the necessary surface area and port length to maximize the performance of the driver. The woofer's dual 4Ω voice coils are internally wired in parallel to present a 2Ω load.

Terminal: The enclosure features a pair of 5-way binding posts; they will accept pin connectors, spade connectors, single banana plugs, dual banana plugs (standard 3/4" width), and bare wire up to 10 gauge.

Enclosure Dimensions:

  • Width: 12-3/8"
  • Height: 14-1/8"
  • Depth: 21-5/8"

Q
Will this pair well with the Jl audio rd900/5?
ricardo  Jul 20, 2023
1 answer
A
This subwoofer would do well paired with the JL Audio RD900/5.
zachary  Jul 20, 2023 (Staff)
Q
Would 900w be too much for this?
yasuke  Jun 12, 2023
1 answer
A
Thank you for your question, Stefani. This sub enclosure can handle 200-600 watts RMS, anything over that could damage the subwoofer and void the manufacturer's warranty.
andrea  Jun 12, 2023 (Staff)
Q
How do you keep this in place in your trunk without running a strap and hook across your whole trunk; since the shape of the box makes it top heavy?
jon  May 22, 2022
1 answer
A
This sub is over 50 pounds, and less than 2 inches taller than it is wide. In the vast majority or cases, this sub should be pretty stable.
thomas  May 26, 2022 (Staff)
Q
Anyone know if this will go with the JL Audio XD600/1v2 AMP perfectly like no problems? New to all this

Thanks for your question. For information on selecting the best amp/sub combo I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences between the models and help you make the best choice for your system.

Q
Is this type of box for a truck or a car?
redman  Aug 15, 2021
1 answer
A
I would say a car. The box is pretty large. You could use it in a Truck but would not fix under a seat. I have it in my Volkswagen Atlas and it great!

Q
Can anyone please measure the actual dimensions? L x w x h..please.. im.wondering if I can fit the 12" one instead of the 10" why not go.biger if I can :)

I have owned both the 10 and 12 inch versions of this h.o. box. If you look at the measurements they don't seem to be that much different but in person the 10 inch enclosure is significantly smaller..but the sound is still unbelievable!!
jon  May 22, 2022
A
This specific box is made for the 10in only you would have to go with the different box if you want call Kitchen speaker they do have them available just in a different style a box
peter  Jun 09, 2021
A
It measures 15 h 15 w 21 l the face where the sub is only 11" If you could get a 12 in this box it probably wouldn't sound good since it's tuned for this specific speaker. Jl does make a 12 ho box. This box is loud shakes everything in my Acadia
juan  Jun 09, 2021
A
L 21.5" H 14" W 12" I'm sure you could go bigger but the box is not spec for a 12
shanden  Jun 09, 2021
A
12"x14"x21.75" What's it going into? If you do go with the 12", make sure you have plenty of power to drive it. I have the 10" in the trunk of my Accord and some Morels up front. Couldn't be happier! Wondered if I shoulda gone with the 12" to be honest. Had to deaden the shit outta my rear deck. You really can't go wrong either way. If you've the space, power and mulah, I say go for it! ??

Will a jl audio 1000/1 Rd handle 2 10 w6v3 ported h.o wedge at 2 ohm each ?

A
I'm running 1 with 450 watts and it's plenty of power. I would say you should be good to go.
william  Apr 30, 2020
A
I think it would work ! I've got 1 Audio control 800 mono powering the JL w6. This sub hits hard ! I would say one JL 1000 per W6 10 would sound epic !
shanden  Apr 21, 2020
A
i had a Jl 500/1 @2 ohms on one of these, and it thumped pretty hard. i was told to give it 750watts. So you may not be getting all of the subs with just 500 Watts per. But I'd imagine that will be quite loud!
joseph  Apr 21, 2020
A
I was running an rd 500 for one and it ran it good my problem was power to the amp after upgrading battery and adding a cap i had no more problems i like the speakers im not an spl person or window cracking listener so if your not trying to break things i would think you would be happy

Q
I own a 2015 Tacoma Access Cab, will this perform with the limited back space and given the port will be facing sideways?
kevin  Jun 24, 2019
1 answer
A
As long as you can fit the sub and give the port enough clearance (at least the diameter of the port) it shouldn't make a big difference which way it is facing.
casey  Jul 02, 2019 (Staff)
Q
Can you face it upwards?
kevin  Jun 24, 2019
3 answers
A
Yes, I think you can face this upwards if you'd like. The box is ported out the front so facing it upwards will still allow the port to work properly. I love my HO110-W6v3!
oliver  Jun 24, 2019
A
You can face it any direction you like. Upright, the biggest concern would likely be tipping over, so just make sure it's fastened down. The terminal connections are on the side opposite the logo and even those are placed within a cutout.
justin  Jun 24, 2019
A
Mounting orientation shouldn't matter. I mounted mine upside-down under the rear deck.
robert  Jun 24, 2019
Q
Will this fit under the back seat of a truck?
stuart  Sep 29, 2018
1 answer
A
At 14" tall, it's not likely to fit under a seat, no. The complete enclosure dimensions are: 12-1/2"W x 14"H x 21-3/4"D If you like JL Audio subs, you should check out their "MicroSub" enclosed models for tight spaces: https://www.crutchfield.com/shopsearch/jl_audio_microsub.html

Q
Will the ACM-1.300, (Audio Control 300 watts × 1@2ohm ) be enough to power this?
scott  Sep 06, 2018
4 answers
A
It should. However, I just went from 300 watts to 500 watts of power to this speaker and it made a significant difference in sound quality and bass production. Hope this helps.
armen  Sep 06, 2018
A
It will power it, but it won't have full bass. Waste of money on the sub if you're not going to use its full potential.
anthony  Sep 06, 2018
A
Absolutely not. Thats like putting a ford engine in a ferrari. This JL sounds sweet and needs the power to push it, clean power to push it. You want at least a clean 600 TRUE WATTS to utilize this high output sub. I have 1000 watts on it and it handles it like a champ.
michael  Sep 06, 2018
A
Itll move it but really not enough power for that sub. You need a clean 500 or 600 watts RMS

Q
anybody running this sub with a XD 700/5 or XD 500/3 which is 300 watts at 2 ohm on the mono channel , is it running this sub ok?
scott  Oct 25, 2017

A
I have it set up with similar power and that's perfect either one of those. Face speaker 6 or more inches away from side panel and it sounds awesome. Good luck.

Q
Can this box be laid on its side? The 14" height would be close, bit the 12.5" would fit with no issues.

A
This sub is amazing, beautiful to look at, pleasure to lesten to It can be placed in any angle, currently on its side and it rocks the heck out of my car. Facing rear or forward this thing sounds the same to me.
elvis  Sep 18, 2017
A
Mine is on its side with no issues.
frank  Sep 18, 2017
A
Yea you can lay it any way you want. Also test with the speaker facing towards the rear of the car and with the face firing towards the front of the car as well as sideways. The port and design is made to lay any way you need and still sound solid. Just don't block the face of the speaker that is where the air port is and it needs space for the air to push out freely and not bounce back off a wall back to the face of the speaker.
michael  Sep 18, 2017
A
Yes, I have it laid on its side for the same reason. The speaker terminals will be on the top side (and a little hard to access), but you can attach the speaker wires before you put it in the trunk.

Q
For those who put in a trunk, does this sound ok facing left or right against the back seat, or will it sound better with the woofer and port side facing the back of the trunk?
joseph john  Jun 15, 2016
6 answers
A
John; I have my facing the wheel weld which is double Fat_matted and it sounds great! My entire trunk is matted for isolation from road noise and proper dampening. This unit has outstanding sound quality and "awesome" deep bass! I would be concerned about positioning in the direction of a license tag since it will surely rattle. Toward the seat is also not a dampened sound enhancing surface.
gary  Jun 21, 2016
A
I had mine facing the passenger side of the trunk. Sounded just fine and took up less floor space when pushed directly up against the rear seats.
grayson  Jun 16, 2016
A
In all of my experience with this situation it would be better facing towards the rear, the sub will still sound just fine facing other directions however it will not achieve it's full db potential....hope this helps.
jason  Jun 16, 2016
A
I've had it facing both left and right and it does sound good in both directions, however, it really shines with the port facing the back of the trunk. It's extremely loud for just a single 10 inch subwoofer and will play just about any type of music very well. Be sure to get the crossover points just right. I filter out anything below 33 Hz and anything above 65 Hz . It truly is a beast. I've had mine for 3 years now and couldn't be happier.
michael c  Jun 15, 2016
A
It did not matter which direction I turned the sub because I I had my old subwoofer removed from my back deck and the ho110-w6v3 emits its tones through the sub hole and it sounds fantastic. When the sub was installed on the deck there was a slight delay in the sound due to sub having to go through back seat now there is no delay. You will love the effect if you do decide to buy. Good Luck Greg Langhorne
gregory  Jun 15, 2016
A
I had it in my trunk and it didn't seem to make a big difference where I placed it - great sound no matter what. I'd suggest just moving it around and see for yourself.

While the frequency response shows 22-200 hertz, I believe that's the 3db down of the driver. Does anyone know the actual tuning frequency of the enclosure/port?
john  Nov 30, 2015

A
Unfortunately we don't have that information listed in our product research and JL doesn't provide it in the owner's manual either. You may want to contact JL Audio directly at 954-443-1100 for more information.

Why not keep it jl and go with a jl hd 600/1v2. I had it powering a 12 inch version of this box. Now gonna use it to power the 10 inch version.it's exactly what it calls for 600rms
jon  May 22, 2022

My top pick is the Alpine MRV-M500. That is what I am using. It is a very compact amp (only about 8x8x2 inches), it is at least 500W RMS (the certificate on mine stated 536W RMS x 1 @ 2ohm & 14.4V), and it can handle hours on end without over heating. I played mine for a 3-hour trip cranked up fairly loud non-stop with no issues. Hope this helps!

NVX makes a great line of amps that would do the job, and not break the pocketbook. I am using the JAD900.5 and it slams, and is only warm to the touch.

I haven't found the perfect amp for this sub yet but i just ordered a JBL MS-A5001 which has been discontinued but can still be found available. It has a small footprint and is rated for 500 wattts RMS @ 2 ohm but many people say they actually get around 750 watts RMS @ 2 ohm which should be ideal for this sub. hope that helps a bit.
nicholas  Dec 04, 2014
A
I personally don't prefer kicker speakers or subs, but they make pretty solid amps i paired my w6 with a cx600.1 and i couldn't be happier its very small and i haven't had a problem with over heating yet. If you have the extra money jl makes a amp that i was also looking at but the only noticable difference i could find was that the jl went about 3hz lower but in my opinion that did not justify the extra 200 dollars.
