After an extensive tour of JL Audio HQ, I got the opportunity to talk to their engineering and development team about the current JL Audio lineup and upcoming projects. Given all the work they're doing with premium car audio, I was surprised by how excited they were for customers to hear their workhorse C1 Series — speakers designed for drivers simply looking for a sensible factory speaker replacement, not necessarily an audiophile-grade solution. The reason for that excitement, once I heard it, made perfect sense — every JL Audio speaker must uphold the quality and sound associated with the name. You may be looking for something that's just listenable, but what you'll get with the C1 Series is an audio experience that puts it at the top of its class. What sets C1 apart?

JL Audio designed this C1 Series C1-690 6"x9" component speaker system to be the very best it could be for the price. You'll find solid construction and finish, along with some eye-popping flair in its striking yellow mineral-filled polypropylene woofer. That woofer delivers impactful lows and is specially designed for a natural roll-off transition to the highs handled by the tweeter. And it's the separate aluminum edge-driven tweeter that gives the C1 Series its distinctive sound, setting it apart from other speakers in its class. Why no grilles?

Features

Woofers: Each JL Audio C1 woofer features a mineral-filled, injection-molded polypropylene cone with a rubber surround.

Tweeters: The 1" edge-driven, aluminum dome tweeters are damped by a silk surround suspension. Flush and surface tweeter mounting brackets are included.

Tweeter Crossovers: The in-line tweeter crossovers are 2nd order (12 dB/octave slope) and the 31" input and 14" output wires are attached. The input wires are terminated with female quick slides that plug into terminals on the woofers and the output wires are terminated with male quick slides that plug into the terminals on the wires attached to the tweeters. The woofer is unfiltered, using its engineered roll-off characteristics to blend with the tweeter. The electronic tweeter protection circuit is designed to minimize the possibility of tweeter failure. It monitors current going to the tweeter and will disconnect the tweeter from the signal when it senses overload. Once the volume has been reduced, the protection circuit will reset itself automatically.

Power Handling: JL Audio publishes several power specifications for this speaker system, 60 watts continuous power handling (RMS), 225 watts peak music power, and 10-100 watts recommended amplifier power (RMS). We've listed the conservative combination of 10-60 watts RMS in the specs table.

In my Prius the front door and dash tweeters are wired in parallel with the dash tweeters proximal to the amp outputs. As the bass filter for the dash mounted tweeter must be wired up near the tweeters I'd like to know that there's room in the tweeter area for this bass filter (crossover). How might this be done?

These tweeter crossovers are in-line, J. These are small enough to tuck into the dash attached to the wiring on the tweeters. What is the minor apex talking about? These speakers fit in a 2017 ram but your system says they don't.

Minor apex could be regarded as the "short diameter" for an oblong speaker. It is the shortest distance across an ellipse whereas major apex is the longest distance. In this case, the major/minor apex measurements relate to the cut out required for a speaker to fit into a hole. The details section lists these as 4ohm, but they were recommended for my 05 4runner with a 2ohm system as an easy replacement. Are they truly 4ohm?

Those JL speakers are true 4 ohm. If your 4Runner has the factory JBL system which is 2 ohms, the only direct replacements usually are a brand called PowerBass. The website could have recommended those JL Audio, even though they are 4 ohm, because they are very sensitive to low powered systems and to give you more options those were recommended.

I have an old dodge quad cab. I'm putting in JL audio subs under the small rear seat. I'm replacing the mid ranges in the rear doors and the tweeters in the front columns. The front doors have a 6X9 and a 5 1/2 midrange. What should I do for the best sound?

I have a fj cruiser and I love my speakers. I made a mistake with my first attempt at mounting the tweeters so don't be in a rush to install them.

If you are talking about needing a crossover it's not needed. They come with high pass filters. At least mine did. If you are talking about fitment I don't know. My application was different

Yes you will need an adapter, the tweeter wiring has bare ends . Or you can cut the connector off the truck and connect the wire ends together .

i installed mine in a 2014 Toyota Camry...so cant answer specifically for your truck. My car had stock tweeters in the dashboard, i just disconnected them. i installed the JL tweeters in the door of my car just above the speakers. it was just small holes for mounting screws and wires. i just looked for a place in the door where the door panel stuck out away from the metal door in the back. I just looked up your cab and I dont think you will have any problems finding a spot on the door panel to mount them - dont do a flush mount, do a surface mount. It was fairly easy and the tweeters blend in almost like it was stock. The speakers rock! no need for a sub woofer

Honestly, I left my factory tweeters in the dash. There is no custom strap that I know of and it's a hard location to access unless you have them professionally installed.
