Product Research

Woofers: The JL Audio Evolution C2-650 component speakers feature injection-molded, mica-filled polypropylene cone woofers with butyl rubber surrounds. The woofer has a 1.0" voice coil on a Kapton Former, a flat symmetrical roll spider, and a Ferrite magnet.

Tweeters: The system features ¾" silk dome, ferrofluid-cooled tweeters with a damping neodymium magnet. Silk is lightweight and great for high frequency extension and efficiency. It is also designed for durability in the extreme automotive environment. Flush and surface tweeter mounting brackets are included.

Tweeter Dimensions:

Frame Diameter Cutout Diameter Mounting Height Mounting Depth
Flush Mount 1.874" 1.620" 0.286" 0.916"
Surface Mount 1.692" Screw holes only 0.939" Screw depth only

Two-way Crossover System: The C2 component system utilizes a true 2-way crossover system with Mylar capacitors and air-core inductors:

  • High Pass: second order (12 dB/octave slope); three tweeter level settings are selectable via jumper pins: +2.0 dB, Reference, and -3.0 dB
  • Low Pass: first order (6 dB/octave slope)

Tweeter Protection: The crossover network has an electronic tweeter protection circuit built in; it monitors the current and disconnects the tweeter when it senses and overload. The circuit automatically resets once the overload is removed.

Crossover Wiring: The terminal strip will accept bare wire or spade connectors up to 0.31" wide.

Crossover Dimensions:

  • Width: 3.365"
  • Height: 1.445"
  • Depth: 4.732" (plus wire)

Connection Note: The C2 component system comes with no speaker wire. Instead, a number of spade connectors and quick slides are included in the hardware pack to be crimped onto speaker wire you provide.

Size Classification Note: Crutchfield has traditionally referred to this size speaker as a 6¾", while some manufacturers, including JL Audio, call it a 6½". Please refer to the Crutchfield Vehicle Selector for the proper size of speaker for your vehicle.

Power Handling: JL Audio publishes several power specifications for this speaker system, 60 watts continuous power handling (RMS), 225 watts peak music power, and 15-100 watts recommended amplifier power (RMS). We've listed the conservative combination of 15-60 watts RMS in the specs table.

How are these compared to the c1 650? I have a 400/4 jl amp. When I turn it up a bit much my c1â??s start to get distorted. At least the tweeters do.

I've had these in my vehicle for over a year and haven't had an issue with any distortion I listen to edm/hip hop /r&b/ punk rock but I power my system with audio controls-4.800

How are c2 650 compared to the c1 650? I have a 400/4 jl amp. When I turn it up a bit much my c1's start to get distorted a little. At least the tweeters do. Wondering if it's worth upgrading to these.

I can't make a comparison between the two but as far as output goes I was pretty disappointed. I ended up returning and putting the factory back in because they sounded equivalent when it came to output before distortion.
[ Kyle  May 01, 2021 ]
Do you have to connect those Crossovers for the speakers to work or can you run the speakers without crossovers? I'm not familiar with crossovers at all. I have a kicker KX1200

You can run w/o cross overs but they will work better with them. Consider them as solo amps...
[ DAVID  Dec 04, 2020 ]
You can run without crossovers but for audio quality I wouldn't recommend it since it's basically a filter that chooses what sound Frequency goes to which speaker. Especially for how simple they are. It really only consists of placing speaker wire into its corresponding location on the crossover. It only would add 10-20 mins max to an install even for someone without experience. I'm sure YouTube has good videos that would walk you through the process if needed.
[ Kyle  Dec 04, 2020 ]
What kind of jl audio amp will you recommend for the C2650 mids and highs?
[ Ricky  Aug 25, 2020 ]

I am using a 600 watt 4 channel JL amp in 4oms to run rear 6x9 alpines and the C2650's in doors of a 2003 F250 , now the rest is a 400 mono for a rockford fosgate 12 punch its the middle series around 400 dollars ,, always if you can run a clean amp from JL or Alpine, others make claims of true RMS these i can be a witness, I am 57 years and have done few upper end systems , this one is one of my best acoustics and clarity to date.
[ Allen  Aug 25, 2020 ]
Why are these not recommended for a 2011 ford f150 with the navigation? From what I can see they would fit with out a problem. Modification to the tweeter mount may be needed but that's the only thing I can think of.
[ bbuader  Jun 06, 2020 ]

I would think it has to do with the door panel or something Around the area that will not let it fit
[ Arturo  Jun 07, 2020 ]
Should work. Don't see why it wouldnt
[ Corey  Jun 06, 2020 ]
Can I add either the JBL Stadium GTO20M midrange or the Infinity Kappa 20mx midrange to this 2-way component set for better midrange sound?
[ Mike K  Jun 09, 2019 ]
2 answers
You will need a set of crossovers to make that work . I f the tweeter set comes with crossovers . Yes . I've always bought tweeter midrange sets cause they come w crossovers to match the setup .
[ troy  Jun 10, 2019 ]
I have the Kappa 60csx and added the 20mx - and yes they work great. the 20mx is developed as a plug and play for the 60csx: 3-Way Upgrade: The system crossovers are gap-selectable, to accommodate a midrange upgrade. The optional 20mx midrange (item number 108K20MX, sold separately) includes band pass crossover to upgrade this two-way system to a three-way system with perfect tonal balance.
[ ARTHUR  Jun 10, 2019 ]
Will I need to set a crossover on my amp? Or do the external crossovers do all the work?
[ vader1010101  Feb 10, 2018 ]

Since only the tweeter setting can be adjusted on the crossover, I chose to leave the tweeter adjustments alone and set the crossover adjustments on my JL Audio external amp. It sounds very good.
[ David  Feb 12, 2018 ]
External cross over does all the work.. u can still tweek to your likings but cross does it all
[ RYAN  Feb 12, 2018 ]
The external will do a good job of keeping the highs with the tweets, but best route is to use your amp's or a separate active crossover to get things dialed in.
[ Jesse  Feb 12, 2018 ]
I have my amp set to full range and let the crossover do most of the work ...I fine tune it with the eq in my head unit
[ Derek  Feb 12, 2018 ]
I used the crossover on the JL amplifier. I think the frequency going into the mid range is open. I have it set at 80 on the high pass setting. So to answer your question it depends on what you are expecting them to do (frequency range covered)
[ Paul  Feb 12, 2018 ]
I drive a Jeep Wrangler and the bass is horrible. Would these speakers do the job?

JL Audio is all you need. Do it!!!!! Wrangler on
[ Colin James  Nov 17, 2017 ]
There are a lot of variable to his question. I'd say yes if you have them installed in a manner that allows Jen to meet their potential. Ample power, install location, etc.
[ Jesse  Nov 17, 2017 ]
I'd say they would help from stock... but without an amplifier and a sub (especially in a jeep) you will probably be always hoping for more
[ Paul  Nov 17, 2017 ]
What gauge wire from crossover to speakers?
[ Nicole  May 25, 2017 ]
3 answers
Being a music purist I always go slightly overboard on all speaker wire. I used 12 gauge to the woofers and the tweeter, but 14 to 16 gauge is certainly sufficient for the tweeters.
[ David  Jun 01, 2017 ]
[ Thongvanh  May 26, 2017 ]
I used 12 gauge for all due to the amount of power and distance I'm running. 14 would probably be sufficient, but I always err to 12.
[ Jesse  May 26, 2017 ]
How loud do these get ?
[ Jborges  Apr 26, 2017 ]

Hitting them with about 90 rms fills my Subaru with plenty of sound. Not drowned out by the pair of 12'a I'm pushing with lots of power
[ Derek  Apr 27, 2017 ]
they get pretty loud when amplafied, super clean crisp sound. great stuff from jl audio.
[ Antonio  Apr 26, 2017 ]
They get pretty loud. Especially if you have the right amplifier connected into them.
[ MAURICE  Apr 26, 2017 ]
I have a 4 channel JL audio amp powering mine in a 2015 Tacoma. I have yet to turn it up all the way it gets too loud for my ears to handle.
[ Brian  Apr 26, 2017 ]
I'm looking to add these components to a pioneer Avic4100 head unit with peak internal amp of 50 watts with 4 channels. These components require 15-100 RMS watts at 4ohms. Should I add an amp to achieve the best sound or bridge the headunit to increase power? I have rear stock speakers though too. I'm not looking for competition equipment just for a daily driver 2010 Toyota Corolla.

I have an 2015 RAV4 and have theses speakers and 75 watt kicker amp and 51/2 kicker rear speakers and 250watt sub with stock head unit and it sounds great
[ RUSSELL  Dec 30, 2015 ]
I think you will be quite happy with these speakers without the need for an additional amp or bridging. I am powering these speakers with the internal amp of an Avic Z150-BH head unit, which has similar power specs to the Avic4100. They have a great sound and plenty of volume, as long as you aren't expecting competition spl levels. I would recommend trying them out like this first ... you can always add an amp or bridge later, if you decide you need to.
[ Keith  Dec 30, 2015 ]
These are sound quality speakers. I have front and rear components amplified with a alpine amp. In a 2015 Toyota Camry. Still not loud enough for me.. But are a very nice set if your not trying to get crazy
[ David  Dec 30, 2015 ]
I added a 1000 watt 5-channel amp and they sound amazing. I recommend adding the amp.
[ Anthony  Dec 30, 2015 ]
Hey Andrew in my opinion I would suggest that you put a amp those speakers to get the best sound quality ...I would say abot 60 too 75 watts rms to get the best sound from these..I personally have them on 100 watts rms and my amp is 1/4 the way up and they sound really good..not to say they would sound bed with the head unit but I know from my experience the amp will and more depth to the music..
[ Terrell Wilson  Dec 29, 2015 ]
I had best luck and sound running an amp,.... Of course costs a lil more but totally worth it!
[ Scott  Dec 29, 2015 ]
