These JL speakers are really good for the price, the vocals are stunning clear. The only thing they lack is some midbass.
Pros: Crystal clear highs and vocals, nice quality speakers.
Cons: Lacks midbass and you need to turn the tweeters down otherwise they are a little harsh.

Installed these on my 06 Silverado with bose system after I wasn't happy with the jl audio c2-525x I installed on front doors also installed a pair on my rear doors (kept the rears in plus installed baffles on the rears). Called crutchfield to exchange front speakers to c2-650 components and ordered baffles as well. After I installed speakers with the baffles and modified the tweeters to fit my pillars minus the crossover (too big for tight places) it sounded way better then the stock bose speakers and tweeters. Bass is tight and crisp clear sound and tweeters have a nice balanced sound. Without the crossover I just think it sounds clean and no issues so far. Glad I exchanged to these even with the c2-525x on rear doors it came out nice and well balanced sound with tight bass. Worth the extra price and very pleased with the awesome new sound compared to the factory speakers.
Pros: Loud crisp sound and awesome bass
Cons: None so far

I replaced the front components in my '18 WRX STI with this setup. The install was a little tricky, but totally worth it. The tweeter units WILL NOT fit without some light fabrication in the stock dash location. For performance, they are exactly what the car needed desperately. I ended up having to select the -3db setting on the crossovers because the tweeters were so bright. But wow, as a package these things sound amazing.
Pros: Clarity and ease of setup.
Cons: Not really a con, but I wish the crossovers were a bit smaller. They aren't big compared to other aftermarket xover setups, but the engineers could definitely make them smaller (easier to hide)

Nice clarity for entry level JLs. Just upgraded from the kicker 3 way 6x9s in order to have my high end notes mounted higher. This set fits my 2014 ram 1500 without modding the woofer hole. Can be used with the factory 6x9 mounting bracket or without. There is enough depth. I order the 600 which was on back order. So I called them to replace this 600 with the 650 and keep all the free metro harness and mount that come with a purchase that fits your car. So if anyone owns a 4th gen Ram, this will definitely fit without much modification. Only mods were the tweeter placement.
Pros: Great quality and clarity for entry level jl speakers. Woofer installment was as easy
Cons: Mounting crossover can be tricky.

awful, overpriced, broken
jordan from Dayton, OH on 2/16/2018
2001 Toyota RAV4
I've had two pairs of these that i bought off of a different online retailer. Both have broke. i have a kenwood excelon headunit and I have a kenwood amplifier that runs 75 watts rms to each channel (4ohm), and set a high pass filter of 80 hertz. well the woofers in both sets have blown in less than a week. now anytime there is a remote midbass note, its just distortion, and lots of it... i made sure its not my rca cables or something like that, when i test them with a multi meter, it shows that they are blown. i have never went above 75% volume, or 26 out of 35, on the head unit. the gain knob is at less than 1/4 because any more and the woofers would only crackle.
Pros: tweeters sound great
Cons: woofers blow from minimal power, overpriced

Tweeters too bright. Where's the Mid Bass?
Chris from Woodbine, MD on 1/16/2018
2014 Subaru Impreza WRX
Disappointed. Very disappointed. These came highly recommended but the tweeters were way too bright and at times it felt like all i could hear was the tweeters and some midrange. Mid bass felt non existent at times. I ended up returning them and purchasing the Morel Virtus 602 6 1/2 instead and i am MUCH happier with the sound so far. Of course the speaker is double the price but honestly it was really worth the upgrade. The tweeters don't sound so bright and harsh like the JL and it strikes a good balance. I will say that Crutchfield is fantastic and they are going to take the JL's back no questions asked. I'm glad I bought with them. One more note: In order to get the tweeters to fit in my 2014 WRX i had to cut parts of the bracket down with a dremel to make the tweeters fit. (I had to severely modify the sail panels to fit the massive Morel tweeters but that's another story). Also note that you'll have to cut the tabs in the inside of the speaker bracket in order to get the Jl C2650 to fit. It's nothing too tricky if you have a dremel but i was a little disappointed it took so much modification to make them fit. I thought the bracket would be ready to go out of the box.
Pros: Relatively good value
Cons: Not much mid bass. Tweeters are shrill and bright.

Got these for the front on my 2012 scion XB paired with a JL 300/4 slash amp (version 1 or 2?). They sound amazing. I love them. I cant afford to be an audiophile but I research and get equipment that will get me as close as possible without breaking the bank. I see live music often. These are very clear at high volumes. I will go deaf before they are pushed. They sound fantastic with all types of music. The tweeters are very defined and I would say perfect. I have the crossovers set at default. I have a Crutchfield sound ordinance B-24 bandpass sub with a rockford fostgate mono amp and they sound good without a sub but I would recommend any sub to get the low end. Very happy with them and the sub. Also Crutchfield service was A+ during my project install. Might spend money on audio guys setting my levels perfect but I don't really need to because it sounds awesome with just the quick tune I did on the levels by ear.I would repeat purchase these.
Pros: Sound perfect

This speakers are awesome. I have them in 2014 Jeep JK in front and roll bar with crosser over set to ref. The fit great, no clearance issue. you just have to screw them into the plastic of the housing. Adapters don't work with these. I do recommend using sound damping materiel. The tweeters fit in factory housing no issue just use a little bit of glue to keep them in place. I have them being powered by a Sound Stream AMP and a TWK 88 in the system for the DSP.

Meh, these are not worth the price point JL has them at. They are very clear don't get my wrong but lack thump. Favorite quality is the how clear the highs are. My focal RCX-165 Coax's that I just installed blow these out of the water in quality, crispness, loudness and clarity. I would not buy this product again at this price point. I am running these through a MRV-F300 Alpine 4 channel which is in the middle of these speakers RMS power band.
Pros: Very Clear Highs
Cons: Too Expensive for what you get as far as quality goes.

I own a 200 Tahoe and the sound started going downhill. I debated between JL c265 and the Focal 165AS. Bought the JL c2650 and c2650x. Just installed both sets and they sound pretty decent with my stock headunit. I'm going to get an aftermarket unit next. The speakers installed fairly easy. I visited a local shop to look at the Metra 82-3002 adapters for the speakers. I can Confirm that the JL AUDIO C2650 will not fit inside these adapters.

good, but not great
russell from Texas on 3/6/2017
2004 Nissan Titan
I'm powering these with a Zapco amp rated at 80watts RMS per channel, and have the gain at about 25%. I placed the speakers in factory locations, woofers in the doors and tweeters in the dash (didn't want to make any alterations to the vehicle). I'm not going to say these don't sound good, because they do, but I wanted to be "wowed" and I'm not. The tweeters are too bright for my liking (maybe do to placement in the dash), and their range seems very limited, while the woofers don't seem loud enough. So while the tweeters are screaming, the woofers leave me wanting more. I wish I had the ability to adjust the volume on the tweeters down more than the -3db setting provided. I'm still playing with the tuning (amp gains, crossover points, eq settings, etc...), and am confident I will find suitable settings, but if I had to do it again, I'd spend a little more and get a better set of components or separates with more range in the tweeter, for better blending between the mids and highs.
Pros: crystal clear sound
Cons: Limited range on tweeter Limited tweeter volume control

Great speaker value
Tracey from Saluda, VA on 5/6/2016
2009 Toyota Tacoma
These speakers sound great, with crisp highs and door panel moving lows. The Tacoma's don't have a lot of fasteners on the door panels so when you crank it up you can feel the door panel moving against your leg. I don't get any vibration sound or reverb, just feel the door panel move when the bass hits.
Pros: Great value, they aren't the most expensive speakers that would fit or the cheapest although they do offer a lot of boom for the buck. The install adapters fit like a glove and the wire leads plugged into the factory harness. Due to the factory wiring a little work was required, however enough wire was already there or provided. I used adhesive backed plastic Velcro to attach the crossover to the inside of the door panel just behind the window switches.
Cons: Haven't had any issues,

Update***
Alex from grand rapids, MI on 3/21/2016
2005 Jeep Liberty
This is an updated post to my previous review. I've had these speakers for two weeks now and the bass response has more than doubled. The break in is definitely noticeable. As they break in they are not only hitting the bass frequencies better and harder, but the range is widening - they are picking up on bass in songs that they weren't just one week ago. I am more than satisfied with these. Also I have my P3D4-12 Rockford Fosgate sub and the P1000X amp now and my system sounds amazing. I am blown away. I Would Highly Recommend These Component Speakers And The RF P3D4-12 Sub
Pros: Bass gets continues to improve throughout the break in period, the highs and mids become more clear and less harsh. Great performance without sub - even more enjoyable with sub
Cons: Wish they came broken in right out of the box!

Crisp & Clear - Outstanding
Alex from grand rapids, MI on 3/16/2016
I bought two sets of these components for my 05 Jeep Liberty and I couldn't be much more happy with them. I am running both sets of my components off a Rockford Rosgate Prime 4-channel amp and am hoping to upgrade to the Punch version soon! This was my second car audio install, my first being polk dxi 6.5 in components and 6x9 rear deck 2 ways in my 2001 toyota camry. I was more than satisfied with the Polk's as the tweets were crisp, the mids punchy, and the lows surprisingly deep and powerful without a sub. When I ordered these JL's I was concerned by the response range as it doesn't extend as low as the polk's, however, the JL's by far make up for this with more accurate and detailed highs and mids. I was blown away by the performance I got from my JL's out of the box! After a few EQ adjustments I was cranking these speakers as loud as I could before my ears started to throb - Absolutely No Distortion. Incredible Clarity. Sure the polk's have more bass, but my JL's are Fantastic and still in the break-in period - I am hoping that the bass performance improves (someone mentioned it got better after a few weeks). Despite my hopes I am not all that concerned about the bass because I am installing a Rockford Fosgate P3D4 Punch sub (600 watts RMS) in the next week :) thank you for the sale Crutchfield!! These speakers did not "fit" my vehicle according to Crutchfield - brackets were pretty easy to make I would most definitely purchase these components agai
Pros: Crisp highs and truly powerful mids; no distortion whatsoever; bass is fantastic when it falls within the playable range of the woofers; the sound is full and very rich
Cons: Lack the lower frequency bass response I want - I listen to primarily dubstep, chillstep, edm (electronic) - and the bass isn't always getting picked up by these speakers. *I'm adding a sub anyway; installation wasn't a piece of cake because the fit wasn't perfect for my car. **Nothing Deal Breaking For The Cons

Use these components for front set matched with JL Audio C2-650X Coax in rear, 10TW30D4 shallow mount sub, XD700/5V2 5ch amp and Pioneer AVH-4100NEX head unit. VERY pleased with the sound. I initially started with a set of Focal's but found the tweeters too harsh. These are soft and smooth with plenty of detail. Base response is very good even before I added the subwoofer. Blends very nicely with a sub (crossover set at either 80hz or 100hz. ) I would describe overall sound as rich and full, perhaps even subtle. They are not so much 'in your face' as some other speakers can sound. Sounds good even at moderate to low volume.
Pros: Tweeters are soft and smooth. Decent bass response. Sounds good even at moderate to low volume.
Cons: Crossovers are a bit large and plastic cover was not the tightest fit. (Taped it closed after install)

I bought these to replace a set of Infinity reference components that were stolen from my Tacoma. I went with these based on the reviews of the highs as the infinitys were a little fatiguing. However after listen with the JL tweets I miss the crisp snares and synths that I experienced with the infinitys. Hopefully with a little more tuning I can get the JL'S to sound a bit more crisp. I will say that the mid range woofer hits the lower notes a little better than the infinitys. I can hear and feel deeper notes with the JL'S while the infinitys left me wanting more punch. All in all a great component set that I would purchase again. (Speakers are paired with JL C2 coaxials in my rear doors and are connected to a Pioneer GM-D8604 Amp)
Pros: Nice mids, good bass. Smooth Highs.
Cons: Highs are good but there is more to be desired.

Caleb n from Houston TX on 5/7/2014
I had never ran jl before and always thought they were overpriced . I happen to be listening to these components one day , I was very impressed with the overall balance and I'm a fan of the silk dome tweeters . I had the infinity reference components before these , in my opinion these sound a lot smoother , dynamic and yet still very loud when amped . These don't take a lot of power 60 rms which is great for a smaller amplifier . I have no cons on these at all if price is a big factor I think the the polk db are the best I have heard at its price point . I would buy these again if your wanting a smoother sounding tweeters like me that are not fatiguing.

Great, but not perfect
Glaneon from Near Charlotte NC on 1/15/2014
Sounds great for fronts in my 2012 Kia Forte Hatchback. I am finding the upper end is a bit shrill - but with my system (8-band EQ) I can tone that down just a bit. If I only had bass/treble control I might be disappointed. Very pleased with the full range of sound they produce. (did not purchase from Crutchfield but found the reviews here very valuable)
Pros: Great all around sound (even down to 70, +/- 20 Hz). Crossovers help ensure clarity.
Cons: Highest Hz range can be shrill. (I'm running 60W RMS to each 6.5"+tweeter, possibly less power would be less shrill)

Replaced the front stock speakers in my 09 Sierra with these. Read a lot saying I wouldn't be happy unless I installed an amp too, but decided to try without the amp first. What a huge difference! The stock speakers were very muddy sounding. These cleaned up the sound a lot. Better highs, better base, clearer voices. Was thinking I might get a sub, but the base seems to have woken up after a couple weeks. Enough to feel the thump a bit. Not as much as a sub would, but enough to satisfy me. Well worth doing, even without an amp!

Great sounding components
Levi from Poughkeepsie, NY on 6/11/2012

Sound great, plenty of power handling. Match nicely to the JL class D amp. Only thing is... the crossover has a max attenuation of -3dB for the tweeter output, maybe I'm too sensitive to high frequencies but I'd like a lower setting. Bottom line, a system with JL quality components probably should have an EQ or signal processor anyway.

Great Sound at an Reasonable Price Point

Plain and simple... these component speakers deliver the goods! Great sound quality at a reasonable price point. They sounded great while being powered by my Pioneer AVH-P8400BH DVD receiver, however, they really opened up when I connected them to a JL XD700/5 amplifier. They have handled everything from Metal, Dubstep, Techno, Pop to Jazz without an issue. Can you do better, sure, but you would be at a much higher price point.
Pros: Smooth midrange, can handle musical peaks with ease and have a nice wide sound-stage.
Cons: Highs can be harsh at times, but not overly bright; however, I haven't tuned my system yet.

Perfect Clarity
nrwracing from portland,ct on 8/15/2010
These speakers have incredible sound quality. i have them powered by my j2320/4 amp. I set the amp exactly as in JLs directions for midbass applications using a multimeter and test disc. After complete, these speakers allow you to hear things in music you never heard before. Perfect quality, perfect sound, best components for the price. If your a music enthusiasts these are for you.

sound quality is good
ikillzombienuns from derry NH on 7/31/2010
i put these in my 2007 ford fusion and at first i was running them off my pioneer cd receiver. They sound really good even though they were only getting around 20watts RMS from my radio. I then upgraded the power to an Alpine PDX4.100 and thats when i ran into problems. At a 100 watts RMS a channel the alpine really put some power to these components. I only had the gain about half way up on my amp and noticed the tweeters were really loud and also kept clipping out on me for 10-20 sec at a time. The tweeters just couldn't handle the power and would protect themselves by shutting off. I only had the tweeters on the crossover point in the middle (ref) setting. I then set them to the -3db setting as low as i could get them. They no longer clip out and still sound pretty well. They are over all great sounding speakers minus the tweeters which r weak and very hard to tune. I don't think i will buy these again but maybe go with infinity's or boston's next time. if your not runnning alot of power they are great but if your going big i really don't recommend wasting the money on them, go with something else trust me.

Great, but not 5 star
Perry from Cedar Park, Texas on 4/22/2010
Ok, the jury is really out still - these COULD get 5 stars....if I could just get my system tuned properly. Time to dig out the DMM and do it right. So far, I think the tweeters are too brash. Mids sound perfect....but I cannot get just the right cutover point I think. I am running a Pioneer 4X75W RMS amp, and 2 sets of these, one front/one rear and I don't have the rear tweeters wired yet. I will say they seem very high quality, and fit my Kia Sorrento doors as Crutchfield said they would. Once I get the amp gain and cutover freq set correctly and the rear tweeters wired, I'll add an update.

Incredibly Clear and Accurate
Tyler from Florida on 2/25/2010
Just installed these and their powered by the JL G6600. Better than the previous VR version that I had in my other vehicle. Their clarity is incredible for the price tag, and the midbass is better than I expected. They blend very well with my JL Audio 8w3v3 sub, and they can get loud, very very loud with absolutely zero distortion. The tweeters are also extremely smooth without extreme harsh tones. If you're looking at speakers in this price range, give these a strong consideration. Absolutely audiophile.
