About the JL Audio Dominion™ d110
Superior sound from a space-saving design
Superior sound from a space-saving design
When it comes to serving up intense, heart-pounding bass, JL Audio knows their stuff. After all, JL subs have been thrilling our customers for years. Now they've put all of that experience and know-how into their Dominion series subwoofers. This compact design combines signature JL Audio performance and value with a smaller footprint that's ideal for use where space is at a premium.
Long-excursion driver and serious power pumps out heavy bass
The d110's excellent performance starts with its beefy 10" driver. This woofer's extremely long, peak-to-peak excursions — well in excess of 2-11/16" — can displace a large amount of air, to produce the deepest bass. JL Audio uses sophisticated DMA (Dynamic Motor Analysis) technology, which lets them shape, control and stabilize the driver's magnetic field strength to ensure ultra-linear motor force throughout its long excursion range. This allows the woofer to more faithfully track the input signal for greater bass definition and dynamics.
It also takes a special amp to power the d110's driver. Fortunately, the 750-watt powerhouse JL employs is more than up to the task. This advanced Class D amplifier uses a tightly regulated switching power supply to provide enormous amounts of unclipped voltage. This design approach allows the amplifier to be more compact, lightweight, and efficient, yet still deliver abundant low-distortion power to extract peak performance from the sub's driver.
To top things off, every d110 powered sub is precision-built in JL Audio's U.S. factory in Miramar, Florida using advanced assembly techniques. Each enclosure is carefully engineered and constructed with solid MDF and extensive internal bracing to give you years of listening excitement.

I was looking for a sub for listening to music and maybe to add to a movie here and there. I am thrilled with the performance of this sub! I looked for many years for a sub that didn't add boomy bass but well defined and tight bass. At a little less than 50% volume on the back of the sub it is perfect for my system. On SACD like Vanessa Fernandez it is truly amazing!! On other SACDs like Kind of Blue it adds so much air and sound stage depth! Ray Brown bass notes are amazing and the sub adds so much to the system. My main speakers are Monitor Audio Silver 8s. I love the MA speakers and they add more bass than you may think but with the JL Sub it really makes the system so much more than it was. If you turn the sub up too much on the back volume control it can not handle it but at about half it blends right in. On movies like Taken and A Star Is Born it adds a whole new life to the system! Not sure I can listen to a movie with out it. I have not even really finished tuning it but am so impressed I can never go back!!
Pros: Nice low tight bass! Not boomy and perfect for music listening.
Cons: none I can think of

Superior sound! Perfect match to my B&W bookshelf speakers. Wonderful base with rock music and movies!
Pros: Fills out the sound your bookshelf speakers can not produce
Cons: No on/off switch - The auto feature works, however I would have prefereed an auto/on/off switch

I purchased this little sub because my reference sub was too obtrusive for my wife's decor. While it won't go as low or as loud, the JL Audio is a great compromise between size and punch.
Pros: Size, accuracy, made in USA,
Cons: Limited bottom octave

OK, so I'm moving to a new house, and I the first thing I need to do is set an A/V system in the room that will serve as my new home office. I bought a new entry level Yamaha receiver, connected it to my 25 year old Monitor Audio Gold bookshelf speakers and my 25 year old Velodyne 10" subwoofer. Crank up the Allman Brothers Live at the Fillmore ... it's sounding great ... and I'm rockin' out while figuring out where I'm going to put stuff ... when all of a sudden I'm hearing the most awful noises from my subwoofer. My Velodyne basically just committed suicide. After a few tears and a suitable period of mourning, I decided it was time to just junk the old subwoofer and buy a replacement. I read reviews and studied the offerings on Crutchfield's website, and decided I'd buy the JL Audio Dominion d110. A few days later, my new subwoofer is installed in my home office and working quite well with the 25 year old Monitor Audio bookshelf speakers. I've listened to a broad array of music since I received the new subwoofer ... Allman Brothers, Elvis, Miles Davis, The Who, Public Enemy, Michael Jackson, Beatles, etc., ... and I have to say this subwoofer performs great. Sound quality is marvelous. Clean, clear and never muddy. My room is small ... 14.5 x 12 x 9, and this speaker is well suited for a small room. I have not watched any movies yet, but I expect this unit will perform fine for that, too.

What a great little Sub. I am running a Nad T777, Oppo UDP-203, Kef R300, R100, R200 in our family room (My Room) Unless my wife reads this :) that's 16x20 and we had a Kef Q400 sub for the lower frequency's and movies that i thought would be fine for this but it seamed something was missing to me. I'm 90% Music and we will watch a movie on occasions. When the JL Audio Dominion d110 arrived i spent an hour or so dialing it in and listing to it I realized how much i was really missing in the music i truly love my R300's but the deference with the JL sub hooked up was amazing. The Q400 cant hold a candle to this sub the precision of this little sub amazes me tight, clean and accurate.. As for movies it's fine for us but might not do it for the movie buff... If your in the market for a really good addition to your stereo you owe it to yourself to addition this little Beast it's worth every dollar to me and wouldn't hesitate to buy it again..
Pros: Exceptional build quality and sound
Cons: None to me

I just received this subwoofer yesterday, and I am absolutely thrilled with it. The finish is very attractive, and high-quality construction is obvious throughout. The controls work flawlessly, and the range of adjustment is perfect. I have this in a two channel system that is used ninety-percent of the time for music only. My room is fairly large, but with low ceilings. I am using the pre-amp outputs of my Denon 100th-anniversary-edition integrated amp. I was able to adjust the JL to blend perfectly with my KEF LS-50s in about an hour. I have been playing classic rock, jazz, orchestral, and opera from several different sources: CD, SACD, vinyl, and streaming. Everything sounds great, with just the right amount of low-end fill, but no excessive bloom or boom. Electric bass, acoustic bass, and bass drums actually sound like musical instruments, not just low-end rumbling vibrations. This is a perfect subwoofer for music. I did a lot of shopping around and even brought a different subwoofer home for a trial audition. Even though the Dominion d110 might seem overpriced for its size and specs, it is worth every penny. Don't be fooled. Unlike JL Audio, many competitors publish exaggerated specs and do not use nearly the same quality components in their construction.
Pros: Looks great. Aesthetically blends into the room. Easy to adjust despite controls being on the back. Tuneful and tight bass.
Cons: None so far.

I was really having trouble deciding between the JL Audio Dominion d110 and the JL Audio E-sub e110. Once I reasoned that my house is 1,400 sq. ft. I decided that the d110 with 750 watts was the way to go for me. I also reasoned that if this subwoofer was not enough for me, I could order a second one for a dual sub set up. I am really pleased with my purchase, the sub is small, not very heavy, looks great in piano black, and blends in well musically. I only have it set at a little less than a 1/4 volume with a pair of Monitor Audio RS6 book shelf speakers for stellar sound.
Pros: Looks great, sounds great, and made with high quality components.
Cons: None that I can point out.

Purchased two of these to compliment a pair of Klipsch RF7-IIs after talking with David from Crutchfield. The JLs are awesome. I purchased them specifically for music, and the clarity of the subs is amazing. I agree with Buford, if you are looking for a heavy hitter for an HT system, look elsewhere (a $500 Klipsch 12in Reference series would be my choice for a HT in a large room). My 10 year old 12in Klipsch reference sub probably rumbles louder than the JLs; but for music, no comparison the JLs are second to none.
Pros: Gives music a dimension speakers just cannot do, sound quality will match the best hi-fi systems. Made in America.
Cons: Expensive, will not shake a large room if used for a HT system

Great performance for such a small box. Glad I was able to lug it up the stairs easily. Deep, tight, and fast. Great for music in small to medium sized rooms. If you want a 120dB monster for HT in a giant room, look elsewhere.
Pros: Compact, fast, musical, US-made, high quality
Cons: Pricey. If all you care about is high output slam, you're probably better served by other brands. Wish it had a switch to power off when not listening to music.

Dominion Series Powered Sub: JL Audio's Dominion series powered subwoofers combine a state-of-the-art subwoofer driver and an advanced Class D amplifier to deliver unmatched performance and value for a wide variety of music and movie applications.
10" Long-Excursion Woofer: The JL Audio Dominion series d110 sub houses an 10" long-excursion woofer. The woofer has been purpose-built to reproduce powerful low-frequencies with stunning impact and precision. The 10" driver employs JL Audio's exclusive DMA (Dynamic Motor Analysis) technology to produce higher output levels with reduced distortion, as well as improved dynamic tracking and resolution. As a result, the 10" woofer is capable of peak-to-peak excursions well in excess of 2.7" (68mm), without distress or audible distortion.
- DMA Technology: JL Audio's exclusive DMA technology is applied to shape, control, and stabilize the woofer' motor strength, ensuring linear behavior over a very long excursion range. Unlike typical steady-state modeling systems, JL Audio's approach takes into account the dynamic shifts created by current flow and back EMF under real power conditions, with real program material. The payoff offered by DMA optimization is a subwoofer that more faithfully tracks its input signal at all listening levels, leading to superior bass definition and dynamics.
- Floating Cone Attach Method (FCAM): This assembly technique, conceived by JL Audio, ensures proper surround geometry in the assembled speaker for better excursion control and dynamic voice coil alignment.
- Vented Reinforcement (VRC): JL Audio's patented Vented Reinforcement Collar (VRC) improves the rigidity and stability of the cone/spider/voice coil junction and directs airflow over the voice coil windings for improved thermal performance. T
- Engineered Lead-Wire System: Carefully engineered lead-wire design and attachments ensure controlled, quiet lead-wire behavior under the most extreme excursion demands.
750W Class D Amplifier: The JL Audio d110 powered subwoofer employs an advanced 750W Class D amplifier in order to extract the most from the long-excursion 10" driver. This design features a tightly regulated switching power supply, allowing the amplifier to generate prodigious amounts of unclipped output voltages. These technologies ensure that the Dominion series powered sub remains in its comfort zone, which is well beyond the point where most small subwoofers run out of power or driver capability.
Sealed MDF Cabinet: To contain the immense pressures created by the powered sub's 10" long-excursion driver, the beautifully crafted cabinet is carefully engineered and constructed using solid, CNC-cut, MDF material with extensive internal bracing and advanced assembly techniques. The cabinet utilizes an acoustic suspension (sealed) design for tight, accurate, natural sound bass.
Controls: The JL Audio d110 powered subwoofer provides a variety of controls to fine-tune the sub to your room application and source content. The controls are found on the rear-panel of the powered sub.
- Volume Level: The "Master Level" Knob is used to set the output level of the powered sub relative to the rest of your audio system. When rotated fully counter clockwise, the sub's output will be fully muted. When at the "0" or straight up position, the level is at reference gain. When turned fully clockwise, the subwoofer's level is at its maximum sensitivity (loudest).
- Crossover: The powered sub's variable low-pass crossover has a Linkwitz-Riley 24dB/octave slope with an adjustable frequency range of 25Hz to 130Hz. The on-board crossover can be defeated for home theater receiver's with an LFE output and its own built-in low-pass crossover.
- Polarity & Phase Control: A polarity switch (0/180°) and phase control (0-280°) are provided to aid in achieving an optimal acoustic transition between the powered subwoofer and your main speakers.
Line-Level & Speaker-Level Inputs: Analog inputs are provided for unbalanced line-level (RCA) signals or high-level (speaker) signals. Using a rear-panel switch, the line level inputs can be configured as grounded or isolated, which is very useful in combating ground-related noise problems. For receivers with a mono subwoofer or "LFE" outputs, only one RCA jack will be used (Left or Right). The speaker-level inputs consist of a removable plug with four set-screw terminals that will fit speaker wire up to 14 AWG.
Optional Wireless Connectivity: Connect JL Audio's JLINK TRX system (136TRX, sold separately) to the powered sub's onboard Wireless Link port and enjoy the freedom to position the Dominion series powered subwoofer almost anywhere in your room, up to 100' away from your receiver or preamp/processor. Using a JLINK TRX will eliminate the need to run physical signal cables from your receiver or preamp/processor's line-level outputs to the line-level inputs of the Dominion series powered sub. Instead, the Dominion powered sub will wirelessly receive audio signals through the JLINK TRX system's receiver plugged into the sub's "Wireless Link port" from the JLINK TRX system's transmitter connected to your receiver's or preamp/processor's LFE/sub output.
Auto Power On: The d110 powered subwoofer will power up its internal amplifier when it detects an audio signal at any of its inputs, and will power down the internal amplifier if no signal has been detected at its inputs for approximately 30 minutes. The LED indicator will be Red when dormant and Green when operational.
Placement: JL Audio recommends that you begin by placing the JL Audio d110 powered subwoofer in the front of the room, on the floor, near the front left or right speaker. Placing the Dominion series powered sub near solid walls will reinforce bass response and pulling it away from solid walls will decrease bass. Increasing the distance between the subwoofer and the walls may help to smooth upper bass response in some rooms. JL Audio also recommends that you avoid placing the powered subwoofer near windows to prevent rattling and sound transmission to the outside world.
