I'm sure this unit is a good unit and I will eventualy us it. I am submitting this review so others can get information. This unit does not work with a 2003 Chevy Silverado standard cab 4.3L truck.

2013 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off Road. This is an inexpensive great option to get information on your windshield. The only reason that I gave the Scosche HUD2 4 stars is because it is a bit too dim in the daytime. I am not using the supplied viewing disc yet. It is still viewable, but you really have to look for it. I even have a tinted windshield, 80%, and it is hard to see. The factory HUD in our 2013 Corvette Grand Sport without windshield tint is viewable in all conditions. That being said I plan on purchasing a second for my wife's 2017 Toyota RAV4 Limited. I may put the disc on hers because we have already had the windshield re-tinted after Virginia moved the placement of our State Inspection Sticker from the Lower Center to the Left Lower Corner.

Pros: Easy install even if you hide the wire, all the information you need on the windshield without clutter, and easy input calibrations

Cons: Just a little too dim in the daylight, even on the brightest setting.

Scosche HUD2

The unit does what it is advertised as doing, but has some problems with doing them. For instance, the parameters on the lower left of the screen are way too small to be read while driving. The settings control is a real nuisance to use. Much of the time the switch is mistakenly pushed the wrong way and the procedure must be repeated, sometimes several times, in order to get the desired result. The default setting of 13.2 V for automatic turn on is too high on my vehicle (a 2015 Kia Sedona) to come on reliably so I had to set it to 12.8V for that operation to be successful. The manual could stand to be a little more comprehensive to cover all operations and the meaning of the settings. This is the third one that I have tried and is about as good as the others, except for reliability. So far I have only driven it a few miles and it has operated fine.

This is a great item for safety. You don't have to look at the dash gauges anymore. With your hand at the 12 o'clock position, this gadget is easy to read.

More details on the Scosche HUD2

Product Research

Features

HUD (Heads Up Display): The Scosche HUD2 is a Heads Up Display (HUD) designed to reduce the amount of times you take your eyes off the road by adding your vehicle's speed and voltage, as well as engine RPM and temperature right to your vehicle's windshield.

Compatibility: The Scosche HUD2 Heads Up Display (HUD) is compatible with most 2001 and newer vehicles equipped with a 16-pin OBD-II port.

OBD-II Connector Cable: The Scosche HUD2 comes with a 54" OBD-II connector cable. One end of the cable features a miniUSB connector which plugs into the Heads Up Display (HUB), while the other end of the cable has a 16-pin OBD-II connector that plugs in your 2001-up vehicle's OBD-II 16-pin port. The OBD-II connector cable and port supply power and diagnostics to the HUD2.

Multi-Color Display: The Scosche HUD2 features a multi-color 3.0" high-bright LED screen that is reflected onto the included window film which sticks to your vehicle's front windshield. The unit will display your vehicles speed (MPH or Km/H), voltage, RPM, and water temperature (Fahrenheit or Celsius). It will automatically adjust the LED brightness for day or night-time driving.

Programmable Alerts: The Scosche HUD2 lets the user program alerts for when your vehicle reaches certain speeds, temperature, and voltage

Dash Mount: A flexible non-slip mat is included to mount the Scosche Heads Up Display (HUD) to the top of your vehicle's dash.

Auto Off: When your vehicle is turned off, the HUD2 will sense the lower voltage level and shut itself off automatically. It may take from 10 seconds to 1 minute for it to turn off.

Q
Will it display my Miles per Gallon? the outside temperature? I have a 2003 Toyota 4runner limited and it can display all this info but I have to scroll through. Id like something to display this info
[ Beau  Jun 29, 2019 ]

A
Beau, I am not a real "Techie" I really like my HUD. I don"t believe my small HUD has fuel consumption or outside temp. The 5.8 HUD advertises fuel consumption but no outside temp. The fuel consumption appears to act like the old "manifold pressure gauge" it changed quickly and appeared to be instantaneous, which was ok for me. I use both of mine primarily for the MPH. Just for the record, I actually prefer the smaller unit. It is not as colorful or as large but does what I wanted. Hope this helped. Burt

Q
My 1997 Honda Civic Has OBDII. Will This Work In My Car?
[ ShookieJay  Apr 08, 2018 ]

A
This unit works only with vehicles with obdll from 2001 and up so it will not work with your 1997 model year.
[ Laryea  Apr 24, 2018 ]
A
I never could get it work in my '05 Dodge RAM with OBDII port.
[ Patrick  Apr 24, 2018 ]
A
Only if you drive around holding the plug into the OBD Port. If Not, it falls out. I have tried several vehicles to see which port it prefers--none. All vehicle OBD ports are SUPPOSED to be standard, why Scoosch decided to alter the plug in making the unit unusable for anything I have thus far. Thanks
