About the Scosche LOC80

Scosche's LOC80 line output converter allows you to connect a receiver with no preamp outputs to an amplifier without speaker-level inputs. The LOC80 handles a speaker-level signal up to 80 watts RMS per channel, and converts it to a line-level signal you can plug into your amp's input.

The LOC80 reduces the incoming speaker-level signals so you can use a stereo RCA patch cable (not included) to make the connection to your amp. The converter features adjustable gain settings on each channel, and it's compatible with almost any car stereo. Warranty: 90 days.

Product Research

Features

Overview: The Scosche Car Stereo Speaker Level Converter (LOC-80) is a non-active, "passive" device that allows any car stereo to be connected to an amplifier or EQ booster. This is accomplished by converting the speaker high-level outputs an the car stereo into low-level RCA jacks by electronically converting the signal as it is passed through the Scosche LOC-80.

Installation: You can use the Scosche LOC-80 whenever you wish to add an amplifier or EQ booster to a car stereo that is not equipped with RCA (low-level) outputs. By simply connecting the speaker inputs of the LOC-80 to the speaker outputs of the car stereo, you can now add an amplifier or EQ booster to your vehicle's audio system.

  • Speaker Inputs: The attached speaker level input wires are 4-3/4" long. Connect the left (+) speaker wire of your car stereo to the white wire of the LOC-80 and connect the left (-) speaker wire to the white/black wire of the LOC-80. Then connect the right (+) speaker wire to the gray wire of the LOC-80 and connect the right (-) speaker wire to the gray/black wire of the LOC-80.
  • RCA Outputs: Connect the RCA output jacks of the LOC-80 to the RCA inputs of your amplifier or EQ booster (Red = Right, White = Left).

Note: Double check all connections and test the sound system. The wiring colors of the LOC-80 may be different from the wiring colors found on your car stereo.

Output Level Adjustment: The Scosche Car Stereo Speaker Level Converter is equipped with output level controls that can be adjusted for proper sound level matching. This done by inserting a small flat-blade or phillips-head screwdriver into the gain adjustment holes, located on top of the LOC-80. by turning clockwise, the gain for that individual channel, or the amount of sound allowed to pass through the LOC-80 is increased. By turning counterclockwise, the gain for that individual channels is decreased. If you feel that after increasing the volume of your stereo, the sound is too quiet, then equally increase both the left and right gains of the LOC-80until the sound level is adequate. If the sound level is too loud with only a slight increase in stereo volume, or distortion (poor sound quality) is noticeable, then equally decrease the gains of the LOC-80.

Most vehicles dont, unless you request it. If they do come through factory it'll be something small. If they are equipped with a sound system it'll usually be BOSE

I have a LOC-80 and hooked it up to my rear speaker channels to connect a 2 channel amp (150W per chanell rms to 6x9s). When ever I turn the volume past 50% the sound cuts completely. I cant immagine my old 2002 OEM radio outputs more than 80W rms a channel. Any tips or is it just a bad converter?

Q
I want to connect my swans bluetooth surround speakers to my av receiver? Will this help and how?
[ Rajeev  Aug 14, 2017 ]
1 answer
A
If your receiver is a fairly recent one you should be able to accomplish Bluetooth pairing between it and your Bluetooth speakers without any physical wire connection. Your receiver owner's manual might be a help with this. I got the unit you're asking about to try a kind of way-out scheme of adding inputs to an old receiver. This little adapter is set up electronically for CAR stereo DC power (not made real clear by Crutchfield) and would not work with indoor AC equipment.

Q
I have speakers mounted in my basement ceiling and I'm trying to connect the speaker wires to back of my TV (RCA). Does this work for that ?
[ ChiTown  Jan 23, 2017 ]
1 answer
A
(Line out converter)This product is intended to splice ur car audio receiver output wires(line out) to get signal into ?? an rca amplifier output. The internal components will not allow the signal to be reversed from rca to wire(line). In addition the tv does not have power to drive the ceiling speakers.

Q
I have a stereo with RCA sockets and extra speakers that use standard wire. Will I lose sound volume by connecting them with this?
[ Tom  Jan 04, 2017 ]
2 answers
A
Unless I'm misreading your question. It will not work. This is for adding rca socket to a stereo that doesn't have them. As in adding an amp to a stock headunit.
[ matthew  Jan 05, 2017 ]
A
Will not lose sound volume just won't have the ability to turn the amp up through the head unit (subwoofer level) only with rear level (if tapped to rear speakers)
[ Zane  Jan 04, 2017 ]
Q
I want to connect my amp (amplified, wired output) to a powered sound bar to be used as a center channel. Will this allow the connection and not over power the sound bar? Assuming the gain control can be lowered to accomplish this?
[ Brent  Jun 07, 2016 ]
1 answer
A
We do not recommend using a line output converter to connect a powered sound bar to the amplified outputs of a home theater receiver. Powered sound bars are designed to be connected directly to the audio output of your TV or external video source(s). They have built-in amplification so, they do not need to be connected to a receiver/amplifier like a passive (non-powered) speaker. I hope that helps. The image doesn't show it but does it also include a blue remote output to turn on amp? Does it also require a power and ground?
[ Paul  Mar 07, 2016 ]
1 answer
A
This item is for the speaker connections only. The leads for amp/power/ground would be in the separate harness that connects to the receiver. For details on installation please contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and give you the details on what you will need for an installation.

If you tap the factory amplified speaker leads to provide the signal to the converter, yes, you should be able to adjust the volume from the in-dash stereo. I hope that helps!

Q
I have 1 line level device I need to connect. On my amp's speaker output, can I keep my speakers connected and connect this device in parallel with them? Will this drop the impedance and create problems for my amp if I keep both connected? Or must I disconnect my speakers and only connect this device?
[ Anthony  Dec 14, 2015 ]
1 answer
A
they will work in conjunction with each other and it will drop the level slightly but most likely not noticeable difference at all as I didn't did same thing with mine and no diffrent was herd but I do have quality products with good song feeds to tap into and Jensen special might be diffrent but ya never know

Q
I want to use this with only 1 channel from my existing stock sub .. I am wondering if i can just hook the 2 negative ( from loc) to the negative sub wire and the same with positive. So to be more descriptive.. 2 channel loc has 2 neg and 2 pos inputs. my stock sub wire.. positive lead goes to both positives on LOC and the same with negative.. will this work?
[ Game  Jul 17, 2015 ]
1 answer
A
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: Since the line output converter is designed to receive both a left and a right signal, I would advise against connecting it that way. Also, if you are planning to add a full-range amp to the system, getting a signal from only the sub will limit the frequencies you are able to send the new amplifier. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.

Q
I'm likely going to wire this to the rear speakers to drive a mono-sub amplifier, and would like to have both channels contribute (so if the bass is in the right channel, I don't want to wire the sub to the left channel and miss out). Does this converter have diodes on the channels so if I was to use a splitter off the output they wouldn't cause interference with each other? Hopefully this is an understandable scenario.

Q
I have a home stereo with a built in AMP. I am trying to add a wireless Polk Audio subwoofer that has it's own amp built in to the speaker box. The wireless device that you would normally attach the the speaker output on the Stereo for the woofer will not function, and I believe it is because the output AMPS from the stereo is to much and keeps tripping a "breaker" in the wireless device. So, I am looking for something that will downgrade the Stereo output from AMP'ed to normal. Is this the product I could use between the Stereo out put and wireless device?
[ Anthony  May 09, 2014 ]
3 answers
A
It depends on the output of the subwoofer line into the wireless sender. The product overview says it can handle 80-Watts per channel. There are other, more expensive options available that can handle higher inputs. The AudioControl LC2i can handle 400-Watts RMS input.
[ Tony  Feb 09, 2016 ]
A
I don't think so. This is not a wireless device of any kind. It's a line output convertor for car audio, to add RCA outputs to line-level audio signal (for adding amplifiers, etc.).
