Beautifully unconventional

Sennheiser's HD 1 Over-ear Wireless headphones are a striking mix of classic style, tried-and-true sound, and modern-day conveniences. They sport a cool throwback look and have built-in Bluetooth for life on the go — you can listen to music cable-free. Sennheiser's NoiseGard™ technology uses tiny microphones and advanced circuitry to cancel out extraneous noise as you move.

It'll help you focus on the enjoyable, well-balanced sound signature, which has a slight nod toward the low frequencies for some extra punch.

Built to travel, and sound good doing it

These lightweight over-ear headphones have a collapsible folding design for easy transport and storage. Heavy-duty, rugged parts like stainless steel sliders and a leather headband make them incredibly durable.

Relaxed, comfortable fit

The HD 1 Over-ear Wireless 'phones features oversized cushioned ear pads covered in soft, luxurious leather. Sennheiser relaxed the leather headpband, so these headphones rest on your head without clamping too tightly.

Go wireless and answer calls

You can also talk on the phone wirelessly via Bluetooth. Buttons on the right earcup let you control music playback and volume, and also answer calls. The built-in VoiceMax microphone captures your voice for clear call quality.

Strong battery life and wired listening option

You get up to 22 hours of wireless music playback with noise cancellation on a full charge. If you're in a situation where you don't need wireless, a cable is included for both passive and active listening.

Couldn't be happier with the wireless sound quality. Since I have an iPhone I can't take advantage of the aptX technology but it still sounds great to me. While I don't have experience with other noise cancelling brands, I find the noise cancellation to be more than adequate.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Headphones are comfortable and the build material quality is very good in comparison to all plastic based headphones. Sound quality is excellent. The noise cancelling quality is good, but not great. Pros: Sound quality - Fit and finish - Great battery life - Collapsible - ready cables included Cons: Noise cancelling features (Feature is always on using bluetooth and always off when using cord. The headphones also lack the feature to amplify voices while cancelling out other background noise) The main control button does WAY too much.

Excellent, but not exceptional

Crutchfield customer from Green Cv Spgs, FL on 12/20/2018

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Glad I only paid extra discounted price for the much hyped HD1. The build quality is there and sound is growing on me or is probably broken in more to reduce hollowness vocals, initially. I would have rated 3 stars, but willing to give it one extra due to noise cancellation effectiveness. Retail price keeps it from getting 5 stars overall for value. It is excellent, but not exceptional.

Pros: Design, long battery life, comfortable for hours

Cons: Cheap looking fabric inside each ear piece, expectation from retail price

A gorgeous portable headphone solution with more than adequate audio quality in its segment/market. My gf is not picky enough to warrant this solution as a Christmas gift but I am and we're both happy!

Excellent sound and build quality

Crutchfield customer from Roosevelt, NY on 12/7/2018

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great sounding headphones. It was easy to set up and pair with my iPhone. The noise cancellation is good but not Bose level good. The sound is warm and the bass is punchy. The build quality is definitely top notch and exactly what I needed for the gym I would recommend. it highly.

High quality, great sound

Chris from Buckhannon, WV on 12/6/2018

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great build quality. Save the plastic stuff for the toy department. These are to audio as a 4K TV is to video. Make sure you listen to a quality stream as well to get the most out of these.

Pros: Good sound and build, wireless for hassle free listening.

Cons: None so far

The best yet from Sennheiser

Vita from Chandler, AZ on 11/21/2018

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

truly the cat's meow! had Sennheiser HD 540 for many moons, got tired of stepping or tripping over cords, extension cords. The wireless model not only alleviates cord connection woes, but sounds even better than the 540!

Pros: no cords very nice sound for all types of music

Cons: a little heavier weight than the 540

Inconsistent quality

Barry from Cocoa, FL on 7/31/2018

The biggest problem with these head phones is the fact that the pads are connected to the headphones with a piece of rubbery plastic that is stitched to the pad. This piece of plastic may last 1-2 years depending on usage when the whole pad will have to be replaced. Basically you paying for the piece of 25c rubbery plastic as there will be nothing wrong with the leather pads. Don't expect much in customer service for all the $$ you will fork out for these either.

Pros: Lightweight

Cons: Not worth the money and continued buying of new pads because of the cheap plastic stitched to the ear pads that attaches to the headphones. Better phones for half the price. With better customer service too.

Great Headphones for Airplane Travel

Crutchfield customer from Dillon, CO on 6/26/2018

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The HD 1 connected seamlessly to my iPad and iPhone. The sound canceling is not noticeable in my office which has little background noise. I took them with me on a recent plane trip. Again, the sound canceling was not noticeable until I took them off. Wow. When I had the HD 1's on, the music was clear with out any background noise. When I took them off, I immediately heard loud background sounds; some that I have not noticed before (I am a frequent traveler). I have been using Westone in-ear phones for workouts and on planes. The difference is dramatic. The HD 1's are clearer, have greater separation and no background noise. I have also tried over-the-ear, open-back audiophile headphones on planes. The back ground noise overwhelmed the open-back phones. I have not tried the HD 1's with lossless files yet. I will be ordering a headphone dac in the next couple of weeks and am looking forward to trying them out. I have not used them with Bluetooth, not the included cable. One warning: the sound can be extremely loud. I made the mistake of putting them on and firing them up without checking the volume. It was painful. I hope I don't make that mistake again. I noticed some pressure points but they were not a big deal. I wore the phones for 3 plus hours with only some adjusting for pressure points. Ditto on the open box comments from others.

Pros: sound canceling is not noticeable with the phones on Phones cancel out airplane noise and have a quiet soundstage Sound is neutral, clear with separation

Awesome sound, more than adequate noise cancellation

Crutchfield customer from Fremont, CA on 6/17/2018

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Excellent fitment, really wide sound stage and full sound sum these up. I've loved the sound of Sennheiser's HD1 Free and wired in-ear units so I wanted to give these a shot to replace an aging set of QC15s. These seemed to cancel jet noise just as well as the QC15s (haven't used the newer QC35s) but with much fuller sound. I didn't even feel like I was wearing headphones while watching movies mid-fight; the sound stage made it feel like I was immersed in sound as if in a movie theater.

Pros: Sound quality Noise canceling Open box was a great deal, appeared BRAND NEW

Cons: 3.5mm jack on the headphones would be nice. Ability to separate Bluetooth from Noise cancellation would make these perfect. AAC support like the HD1 Free has would be a nice feature for iOS users.

Not exactly 5 stars but deserved better than 4. Great sound!

Soroush from Sacramento, CA on 6/8/2018

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Sound quality is so good that despite it's shortcomings, I couldn't give it a 4 star. I just returned a different set of headphones after 1 day of use that were too heavy, skipped, and weren't collapsible. Oh and they cost more. Ear cups fit perfectly, are soft and the bass and highs are so crisp and defined. There are some obvious usability improves that can be made. Noise cancelling is on when the headphones are on with bluetooth. You can't turn it off. I do wish they had USB-C as almost all my devices have it now and it would have been future proof. Also it would have been nice if they put volume and track buttons on one ear and call and voice command button on the other side. Other than the power button, the main control button does WAY too much. It's confusing. Finally, on a positive note, the range is great.

Pros: - Sound quality - Fit and finish - Range in bluetooth - Great battery life - Collapsible - Sturdy carrying case - Travel ready cables included - Price is coming down and open box option worked great for me

Cons: - 3.5mm included cable isn't 3.5mm on the ear cup end (but does lock into place) It's a special cable which is annoying. - No controls when hard wired. You have to get phone out of pocket - No USB-C for fast charging and reduced cables

Sennheiser HD 1 Over-ear Wireless

DrewieLouie from Eureka, CA on 5/31/2018

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased these to give as a gift after listening to another comparably-priced bluetooth headset, which in my opinion fell short in terms of sound quality and build quality . My girlfriend was more than impressed, so I was eagerly anticipating hearing them for myself, which I got to do recently. I was pleasantly surprised with the comfort, design, and most importantly, the sound quality of the Sennheiser HD 1's. I wouldn't normally find myself shopping in this price range for a pair of bluetooth headphones, but having invested in them, and having experienced the performance of a more "reasonably-priced" option, I can't imagine compromising the raw emotion these are capable of evoking. P.S...I was weary of the fact that the noise cancellation cannot be disabled (when in bluetooth mode), but after listening to them, I found it to be almost addictive. It effectively lowers the noise floor and makes your music listenable at low to moderate volume levels, without feeling unnatural or taking away from the listening experience.

Pros: very lightweight and comfortable in general, excellent sound quality at all volume levels, impressive volume level for a bluetooth headset, minimal sound leakage, unique and attractive design, ANC is well-implemented

Comfortable with great NC and solid sound

Brad from Alexandria, VA on 4/20/2018

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is an excellent set of headphones. For NC/Bluetooth, the sound is almost as good as my wired momentum's. Just got off a 16 hour flight from Asia. Had no problem with battery life and comfort was among the best headphones I've ever worn. Also, NC was solid. Had no issues on the plane! Absolutely the best for travel.

Pros: Sound, build quality, noise cancelling, comfort.

Cons: None

Great Sounding Headphones Without the Gimmicks

Bob from Alhambra, CA on 3/28/2018

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very good sound and comfort, but I purchased mine as a "Scratch and Dent" item and one side was not performing to its fullest. Nevertheless, it is a very high quality set of headphones.

Pros: Comfort Quality Overall Sound

Cons: Buttons

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I really like the Sennheiser HD 1 Over-ear Wireless headphones.I live in an apartment and need to keep things quiet. I also have a hard time with clearly hearing words being spoken. Now with these headphones I am able to clearly distinguish every word. Battery life is very good and paring of all bluetooth devices is excellent I couldn't be more pleased. I believe they beat the competition. Too bad they aren't made in Mexico with Mexican steel and leather.

Pros: Got it all.

Cons: None

Well worth the extra $$ no regrets

Tony from Itasca, IL on 2/18/2018

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Exceeded my expectations on comfort and sound quality. Noise canceling not so much but overall a great robust product. I use these everyday in a loud industrial setting and they are holding up great. The old school retro look is aesthetic and robust with no plasticky feel. The sound quality and comfort lets me wear 8+ hours a day. Great earmuff design fit and metal placement position adjustment. A++++

Pros: Incredible sound Great build quality Premium leather All day comfort Easy use and connectivity Great range of wireless Smart folding design Noise cancelling Long lasting battery charge No distortion and great volume Rugged high quality build

HD-1 Benefits

Dwight from Rock Hill, SC on 1/29/2018

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Excellent sound quality and good noise canceling for the office, without the annoyance sometimes experienced with other noise canceling headphones. Comfortable and high quality feel and appearance. Sale made it an obvious choice over the QC35 New and old.

Pros: Sound, quality, feel with noise canceling.

Cons: Can't adjust amount of noise canceling like QC35ii.

Sennheiser HD 1 Over-ear Wireless

Erin from Alexandria, VA on 1/20/2018

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These Sennheiser HD 1 headphones are the perfect compromise between noise canceling and audio quality if you want both. Bose may be better at noise canceling but these are sufficient for me and sound better. Plus they are great looking. Also, I can wear them for long stretches with no discomfort. I'm a 5'7" woman and they fit over ear perfectly. Love 'em!

Pros: Comfort Sound quality

Top Quality / Great Sound / Great Noise-Canceling

Ryan from Sumter, SC on 1/4/2018

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I started to travel more for work lately. In the past, I had a pair of Bose Q15s that rocked for NC but SUCKED using them for music. A cheap $15 pair of earbuds I bought for the gym sounded superior over the Q15s. A few years ago the Q15s stopped working and looking at them it seemed a wire broke. This was disappointing being I rarely used them. Looking for another pair of NC cans I first looked at the Sony MDR-1000X. Great reviews and I have always enjoyed Sony products. However, they were sold out. This forced me to expand my search, and that is when I came across the HD1 Wireless. They were on sale, and I figured if they are not everything I am looking for I would just send them back. From the moment I took them out of the box, I have been very impressed. BT hookup is a breeze, and the feel/quality seems to be top-notch. Coming from the Bose Q15s, I did not expect great things regarding music. With them being wireless I thought I might use them more than the Q15s with the tv or maybe an audiobook. Frankly, I am blown away by the sound. My go-to cans for music are a pair of Grados GH1s. They will still be my music cans. However, I also have a pair of Grados 325e, and the HD1s are on par with them. One complaint I do have. The cable that is included looks and feels like a cheap 50 cent cable. I wish they would include a solid cable to go along with the solidly built cans. Buy them, and you will not be disappointed.

Pros: Top Quality / Great Sound / Great Noise-Canceling

Cons: Cable to plug it in is CHEAP.

Comfortable & Affordable

Crutchfield customer from SouthCentral PA on 12/31/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Product was ordered as Open Box. This copy appeared in every to be brand new. Over the 20 years I've been a Crutchfield customer, "Open Box" has generally been a great savings. Now, for the headphones: music thus far comes through with a full dynamic sound similar to my Sony Professional cans which cost much more than these. Since I am still getting its wireless feature to work, I've deducted a STAR for that reason and 1 STAR off for my uncertainty of contact points beneath the tiny mult-function buttons holding up with repetitive use. I wear tiny behind-the-ear aids which seem to stay out of the way since these cans have great ear coverage!

Sennheiser HD 1 Over-ear Wireless

Joseph from VIRGINIA on 12/30/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I gave the HD 1 five stars, because it has what I value most: great sound - both wired and using bluetooth. The battery life is excellent. The fit is very comfortable. The look is stylish as well. My son has the Bose Quiet Comfort 35, which is very good, the noise cancelling was better than the Sennheiser. However, the Bose noise cancelling put some sort of pressure on my inner ear, which was uncomfortable - deal breaker for me. Jmo, the HD 1 is the best combination of sound quality and noise cancellation that I tried. Very pleased.

Pros: Excellent sound, very comfortable, good looking.

Cons: Noise cancelling not as good as the Bose Quiet Comfort 35.

Crutchfield customer from Redwood City, CA on 12/20/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The headphones looked and felt great right out of the box. The Bluetooth connection to my receiver was practically effortless. Also, after disconnecting, when the headphones are in range they automatically connect to that source. The are very comfortable and were worth the price I paid. I would give them 5 stars but they do not get loud enough for my taste. I will keep them however because the sound quality is very good and clear. I would recommend anyone to purchase these cans.

I love these! Fit and finish is awesome!. The sound is outstanding. Little pricey however once you get them you will be pleased you spend the additional money.

Sennheiser HD 1 Over-ear Wireless

Cornelius from San Diego, CA on 9/13/2017

Great Headphones with audiophile audio. Wireless connectivity works well, sound is not completely block out with active noise canceling but enough. If you have read reviews comparing to Bose their headphones have better noise canceling compared to these. But these shine in the audio aspect. Try wired to a good headphone amp for a simulated studio effect with the right CD.

Pros: Great Audio

Cons: Good active noise canceling, not the best though.

Sennheiser HD 1 Over-ear Wireless

Crutchfield customer from Brooklyn, NY on 6/10/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These are the headphones that you buy when you are SERIOUS about how music sounds... If not you waste your money on a marketing ploy by a wealthy rapper. These headphones sound excellent, and the only reason I did not give them a perfect 5 Stars is... The control button. It's garbage. Having just one button to control multiple features is a disaster waiting to happen, and it did with mine. Two weeks after getting mine, the button stopped working. I pressed 3x to go back... Nothing. I pressed twice to go forward... Nothing. All id hear was the wonderful lady in my ear "Volume Max" or "You have between 18 and 20 hours playing time" That was NOT helping me. So Sennheiser loses points for that. But Crutchfield is Fantastic.. A new pair was immediately shipped out. We'll see how these work out. But If you care about how your music really sounds.... These are the wireless headphones you'd look at, seriously.

Pros: Perfect sound quality. Talking on the phone, was really clean and crisp. The noise cancelation feature is too perfect.. You really DON'T hear anything around you.

Cons: The one control button...

Superior headphones

David from Leander, TX on 5/19/2017

Bought these headphones and have used for over a year. Great quality sound and reliability. Bluetooth connection flawless with S7 Edge. Noise cancelling is good.

Pros: Great sound, reliable Bluetooth connection, long charge, noise canceling good.

Cons: None....worth every penny

Product Research

Overview: The Sennheiser HD 1 Wireless headphones have a closed circumaural (over-the-ear) design with Bluetooth technology and NoiseGard Hybrid active noise cancellation. The headphones come with a straight connecting cable for those times when you can't go wireless, a USB charging cable for the internal battery, a soft cloth drawstring pouch, and a semi-hard clamshell case for storage.

Bluetooth: The HD 1 Wireless headphones have Bluetooth version 4.0 + EDR which pairs to your phone or audio device in seconds. You can make and receive phone calls and stream audio wirelessly in a range of up to 33', depending upon environmental conditions. Bluetooth 4.0 is compatible with devices having Bluetooth versions 1.1 through 4.0. The headphones have the following profiles: Headset Profile (HSP 1.2), Hands-Free (HFP 1.6), Audio/Video Remote Control Profile (AVRCP 1.5), Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP 1.3), and Device ID Profile (DIP 1.3).

aptX: With aptX audio coding, the HD 1 Wireless headphones deliver clean, crisp audio in full stereo. If your Bluetooth audio source supports aptX, the headphones will automatically stream music wirelessly in aptX high-quality mode. If the device is not equipped with aptX, the music will be streamed in the standard quality mode.

Near-Field Communications (NFC): If you are using the headphones with a device that supports NFC, you can wirelessly connect the device by touching, or placing it within close proximity of, the "N" logo on the front of the left earcup.

NoiseGard: The HD 1 Wireless headphones feature the NoiseGard hybrid Active Noise Cancellation. NoiseGard is a combination of two noise-cancellation systems with a total of 4 microphones. The two microphones on the outside work as a Feed-Forward system that reduces high-frequency noise, while the two on the inside of the earcups act as a Feed-Back system to reduce low-frequency noise. Together, the two microphone systems reduce ambient noise by up to 25dB over a broad frequency spectrum. The NoiseGard hybrid Active Noise Cancellation system only works when the headphones are powered on. Even with the power off, the closed, around-the-ear design shuts out much of the external noise.

Rechargeable Battery: The HD 1 Wireless headphones are powered by an internal, 3.7VDC 600mAh Lithium-Polymer rechargeable battery. The battery charges in about 3 hours via USB power (using the supplied Micro USB cable) from a laptop, an AC-powered USB charging port, or a mobile 12-volt USB charging port. While charging, you can continue listening to music or making calls from your smartphone via a Bluetooth connection. A fully-charged battery provides approximately 22 hours, using both Bluetooth and Active Noise Cancellation. You can keep track of the remaining battery life through the multi-color LED and voice prompts.

VoiceMax: The headphones utilize VoiceMax technology with two built-in microphones for voice communications. With two microphones, speech quality is enhanced, and external noise is removed. VoiceMax allows you to conduct clear phone conversations, as well as voice control functions with your smartphone, without the need of an external microphone.

Phone/Music Controls: You can control your streaming audio and phone calls using the 3-way multi-function button on the bottom of the right earcup. The button uses the same protocol as most other headphone remote controls with a pattern of button presses, however some smartphones may not support all functions. Phone controls allow you to accept, end, and reject calls, and redial. If you receive a call during another active call, you can choose to accept the new call by ending the active call or placing it on hold and toggling between the two calls. Music controls include play/pause a song, play the next or previous song, and rewind or fast-forward a song. Phone and music controls are only available if the headphones and smartphone are connected via Bluetooth.

Audio Cable: If you can't listen to the headphones wirelessly, you can still enjoy your music through a wired connection. An attachable 58" straight audio cable is provided with a right-angled 3.5mm mini-plug. In Active Mode, you can still take advantage of NoiseGard hybrid Active Noise Cancellation when using the headphones with the audio cable, however, the phone and music control functions will be disabled. In Passive Mode, Active Noise Cancellation is turned off. An Airline audio adapter is included so you can plug into in-flight entertainment on most domestic and international airliners. Phone and music controls are not available when the audio cable is plugged in.

Design and Materials: The HD 1 Wireless headphones are equipped with lightweight brushed stainless steel sliders, a luxurious, real leather headband, and redesigned ear cushions with memory foam. The headphones fold into a compact package that you can place in the silky drawstring pouch or the semi-hard clamshell case with a zippered closure.
