This cable's four-pole XLR plug preserves the symmetrical signal flow from your Sennheiser amp through two pairs of silver-plated oxygen-free copper leads all the way to the independent left- and right-earcup connectors. This results in very precise signal transmission with almost no distortion, so you can maximize the sonic potential of your headphones and amplifier. You'll enjoy clean, wide-open sound with fine detail shining through and virtually no noise.

Product Research

Features

Overview: The Sennheiser CH 800 S is a high-end cable for the HD 800 audiophile-grade headphones. It is 11.5' (3.5 meters) long, with two proprietary ODU connectors on one end (headphone) and a single XLR-4 connector on the other end (amplifier). The cable is very flexible, and has an elegant fabric covering to minimize friction and distortion picked up through cable contact.

Matched: The CH 800 S is optimally matched to Sennheiser's HDVD 800 and HDVA 600 headphone amplifiers. These headphone amps have XLR-4 output jacks to accommodate this cable.

Q
With this XLR termination, does this cable show any improvement in sound performance when compared to the stock cable?

Hi Seung K, Thanks for your question. Sorry, I don't have a very good answer. I bought the CH800S balanced cable at the same time as the HD800 headphones. I have only used the HD800 with the balanced cable, never with the single-ended cable. Note that the CH800S is the same cable construction as the Sennheiser SE cable, only with an XLR termination. However, IMO all headphones will sound better in balanced mode vs. single-ended due to how the gound is handled by the amp. Hope this helps,

Separation is noticeably apparent and a bit cleaner since you are not using a common wire for both left and right channels.

It depends on how sensitive your ears are. For some, they claim they notice no improvement (these people also probably claim that there is no quality difference between MP3 and lossless codecs). For others, they claim they can notice an improvement. I personally fall into the second group: there is a small, but notable improvement.
