Our take on the Sennheiser e 614 by Crutchfield's Ralph Graves
Highly accurate sound reproduction
The compact Sennheiser e 614 condenser mic delivers accurate, transparent sound thanks to its fast transient response and wide, flat frequency response from 40 to 20,000 Hz. It can handle extremely high sound pressure levels, so you can use the e 614 to close-mike your instrument. It's great for close-miking hi-hat cymbals, or hung over a drum kit to pick up crash and ride cymbals. The e 614 can be used for overhead ensemble recording, and miking woodwind and string instruments. Its acoustic properties also make it a good general-purpose home studio mic.

Overview: The Sennheiser E614 is a supercardioid condenser microphone, designed for demanding instrument recordings and performances that require extended frequency response, high SPL handling, fast transient response and compact size. The E614 is most ideal for overhead drum miking, but works exceptionally well on percussion setups as well as woodwinds and strings. It has a nearly flat frequency response from 40Hz to 20kHz, allowing it to capture the shimmer and contact of sticks, mallets, and hands. The E614 can handle high SPLs and features medium sensitivity, which helps reduce bleed from other instruments on stage.
Polar Pattern: The E614 has a supercardioid polar pattern, which has maximum sound pickup directly in front of it with slightly less from the rear, and very little pickup from the sides of the mic, which helps it reject sound from stage monitors.
Connection: The E614 provides a balanced output on a standard male, 3-pin XLR connector.
Phantom Power: The E614 uses a condenser type transducer that operates on phantom power sources ranging from 12 - 52V / 3mA.
Stand Mount: The included stand mount for the E614 allows approximately 180˚ of tilt and has a 3/8" threaded socket.
