About the Sennheiser HD 559

Learned from the best

When I spoke to Sennheiser's legendary headphone designer Axel Grell, he told me that the company uses their super-premium models (like the flagship HD 800 S headphones) to inform the design of all of their headphones. You can certainly hear it with the HD 559 open-back headphones. They deliver the company's familiar wide-open soundstage and detailed, yet-smooth mids and highs. There's also quite a bit of bass for a set of open-back headphones — a category that Sennheiser popularized decades ago, and an area where they continue to innovate.

Product highlights:

  • over-the-ear, open-back design for spacious sound
  • 38mm drivers tuned to deliver deep bass
    • Sennheiser's "Ergonomic Acoustic Refinement" (E.A.R.) design sends audio signals directly to your ears
  • padded headband and large, soft velour earcups
  • detachable 10-foot cable with 1/4" connector
  • frequency response: 14-26,000 Hz
  • sensitivity: 108dB
  • impedance: 50 ohms
  • weight: 9.9 ounces
  • warranty: 2 years
  • Our 60-day money-back guarantee
  • MFR # 506828

What's in the box:

  • Over-ear headphones (black)
  • 10' Cable with 1/4" (6.3mm) plug (attached to headphones)
  • Safety Guide

Sennheiser HD 559

Just what I wanted. Great sound and the highs come in great. Great sound quality overall. Also, I can hear the phone if it rings in the other room. I really like the simplicity, no Bluetooth, Siri or alexia, no other gadgets except the quarter inch jack plug.

Was looking for reasonably priced headphones and these fit the bill. Very smooth, even sounding without being overly bass heavy. They fit well, though I have small ears and are comfortable enough to use for hours at a time. Happy with them to be sure.

High end sound

Calvin from San Bernardino, CA on 6/15/2018

It is difficult to rate high end headphones. I've listened to the Bose wireless and it is very good. I have a good collection of high end headphones. The Sennheiser HD559 is definite high end. It has a soft sound but reproduces all frequencies very well. One can listen to it for an extended time. I like the HD559 especially with classical music, popular instrumental bands and orchestras. If you listen to rap, I would prefer not to use the HD559. But this is all my opinion. You have to decide for yourself. The listening test should last for weeks. Listen to well recorded music and from good headphone amplifiers. If you use it to listen on the computer, you need a better sound card and realize not all computer generated music is well recorded. For this price point, you can't go wrong unless you prefer rap.

Pros: comfortable fitting, high frequencies are soft but easily heard, a good bargain

Cons: first opinions of the sound quality is deceiving.

Listen and Relax

Danny from Tipp City, OH on 2/13/2018

I bought these headphones to replace a pair I had used for about 25 years. The old pair was getting rather uncomfortable and unimpressive in sound. These HD559 headphones are amazing. One thing I really like about them is the open back design. I seldom (if ever) listen to music in a noisy environment. So the noise-cancelling and blocking design of many headphones is something I really don't need. In fact, I like the open back design because I can relax better. If something unexpected does occur, such as the door bell ringing, I will not be sealed away and unable to hear. I really do not like being closed off from my environment. And the sound? Just great! I have been listening to music and movies in amazement with these HD559s. I am completely satisfied.

Pros: Open back plus good sound

Cons: My speakers might feel neglected

Excellent sound and nice to have a long cord. Only slight negative is that headphones are somewhat large and heavy, but not uncomfortable.

Pros: Great sound and very good quality.

Cons: Large size and slightly heavy.

Is there a shorter caable for the hd559 headphones?
[ Douglas  Jul 07, 2017 ]
1 answer
There is no mention of a shorter or secondary cable for these headphones anywhere. I cannot find information on the plug that connects to the headphones. I don't think one is offered and that they don't encourage you to use a different cable with them. My Bio:

My HD559 has a 10ft cable. is there a 3ft cable with 2,5mm to 3.5mm male ends that will work on them ?
[ Douglas  Jul 06, 2017 ]
1 answer
I'm afraid we don't offer a replacement cable that would work with the Sennheiser HD559 headphones at this time. You may want to try checking Sennheiser's parts & accessories store directly; you can find that on their website here: Hope that helps!
