Terrific amp
Michael from Rockville, MD on 8/11/2022
I love this amp. Chose it after considerable research and was impressed by the reviews re: it's capabilities. A full range of inputs and outputs. It has power sufficient to drive any headphones, and has brought out elements of the music previously unheard with my high end headphones. (Sennheiser HD800, Grado PS 2000e and Hifiman HE 1000). Only purchased it a few days ago, so haven't yet tested its capabilities as a DAC. Purchased as "scratch and dent" at substantial savings from Crutchfield, but if there is exterior damage, it's invisible to the naked eye. It's a pleasure to listen to.
Pros: Excellent sound Power Build quality.
Cons: Pricey at full price

Love the HDV 820
Crutchfield customer from Arvada, CO on 9/4/2021
Love this DAC/AMP. Plenty of power to drive my HD800S headphones. This unit has many selectable input option (digital or analog) and output options. The DAC/Amp is also pretty heavy and is sturdy, including a mechanical lit power on/off button. The SABRE DACs sound wonderful, especially with FLAC lossless files.
Pros: Great sound, plenty of power to drive 300 Ohm headphones, many input/output options, nice large volume knob. DACs are very clean.
Cons: None really, just a fairly large and heavy box, though I don't have the need to ever move it.

The Perfect Companion to the HD800S
Crutchfield customer from Clifton, VA on 11/6/2019
This headphone amp and DAC by any measure is excellent. It pairs extremely well with the HD800S to the point where it feels like a miniature HD1 Orpheus rig. It keeps the analytical flatness of the HD800 true while allowing you to use the optional balanced cable for those headphones which is a true treat to the ears. With my Audeze LCD-4z headphones it powers them perfectly and provides a great user platform to run multiple headphones out of a single source. My only complaint is that there is only one unbalanced output but two in the rare 4.4mm plug developed recently by Sony. Overall it's an excellent desktop amp that would serve anyone well if they aren't disgusted by the extremely high price.
Pros: Great sound 4 balanced outs at once are possible Very easy to use and set up
Cons: Pricey Large Only one unbalanced output

World class headphone amp
Bob from Upland, CA on 2/26/2018
The Sennheiser HDV 820 is a beautiful piece of audio gear. It's The finest headphone amp I have ever had the pleasure of owning. I'm using the it to drive my matching Sennheiser HD 800S headphones, and it's a powerful match. The sound is stunning. I have the amp sourced with my NAD 568 CD player Connected via coax cable to take advantage of the fantastic DAC built into the Sennheiser amp. I would highly recommend the HDV 820 to anyone who is looking to put togeather a state of the art headphone rig.
Pros: Superb sound, flexible connections and first class build quality.
Cons: None, but I wish it came with a remote control.
