Compatible with CHIRP, ClearVü, and SideVü sonar

The GPSMAP 943xsv works with CHIRP sonar and Garmin CHIRP ClearVü and CHIRP SideVü. These optional ultra-accurate scanning sonars give you a nearly photographic image of what's going on below and beside your boat. You'll see the fish, plus the structures and submerged objects they're trying to hide behind, all in striking detail.  You'll need to choose the correct transducer for your boat type and sonar preference, but once you're connected you won't need to purchase an additional black box to start locating fish wherever you roam.

High-resolution color display

The 943xsv's high-resolution IPS display conquers the glare of the sun from nearly any angle, giving you a clear view of the proceedings. It sports edge-to-edge glass and a slim profile, so you can fit it in more spots on your vessel's dash. Garmin includes hardware for bail-, flush-, or flat-mounting.

Easy transfer of waypoints

You can drop up to 5,000 waypoints and find your way back to your favorite spot. If you have waypoints, tracks, or frequently used routes stored on another manufacturer's GPS product — or on a Garmin handheld device — you can transfer those items to your new Garmin chartplotter, via GPX Waypoints Transfer.

Make your own maps

The 943xsv includes preloaded Quickdraw Contours software that lets you create your own HD maps with 1-foot contours. You'll own the maps, so you can keep the data to yourself or share it with your friends. No surveying expertise is needed — you just fish and let it handle the map creation. Pair the built-in Wi-Fi with Garmin's free ActiveCaptain™ app to get notifications, share maps, and more.

Intelligent features

Enter a desired location and let Garmin Auto Guidance technology search relevant charts to create a safe virtual pathway on the display that helps you avoid low bridges, shallow water, and other charted obstructions. You can adjust the pathway by inserting "via" points at interim stops or landmarks along the way.

Color-coded cues

If you need even more "at a glance" info, you can designate up to 10 different depth ranges and assign a unique color to each one. If you're coming to this Garmin from a different chartplotter, this could be a great way to retain the visual cues you're used to.

Sail away

Garmin's SailAssist features give you plenty of info for your next excursion, including clear views of laylines and race start line guidance, plus enhanced wind rose, heading, and course-over-ground lines. You'll be able to track wind data and see how the tides and currents are moving so you can stay on course.

Preloaded LakeVü g3 inland lake maps

The GPSMAP 943xsv is preloaded with over 18,000 U.S. lakes, rivers and reservoirs (plus another 5,700 in Canada), a number that includes more than 6,700 HD lakes with 1-foot contours shoreline-to-shoreline. LakeVü g3 gives you remarkably detailed views of underwater features, plus Safety Shading that allows you to designate a minimum depth. You'll also be able to get info on interstate highways, roads and bridges; designated fishing areas; and marine-centric points of interest like docks, boat ramps, marinas, and campgrounds.

And BlueChart g3 coastal charts

BlueChart g3 coastal charts cover you anywhere offshore around the United States, giving you depth range and shallow water shading, including areas with 1-foot contours. It even works with raster cartography through the ActiveCaptain app. You can even upgrade to optional  BlueChart g3 Vision, which offers high-resolution relief shading, 3-D views of select areas, high-resolution satellite imagery, and aerial photos.

Just use the microSD™ card slot when you want to add additional maps in the future, or you can purchase new charts through Garmin's free ActiveCaptain app.

NMEA 2000 network-ready

When you integrate the 943xsv with your NMEA 2000 network, you'll be able to see engine data, check sensors, manage autopilot, and more. It also works with NMEA 0183, J1939 engine bus connectors, and Garmin's exclusive OneHelm digital switching platform. In addition to Wi-Fi, fitness enthusiasts and others can take advantage of its wireless ANT technology to connect with select devices.  It also supports the optional Garmin Panoptix LiveVü Forward Sonar, so you can see and avoid submerged objects within 300 feet.

Features

Overview: The Garmin GPSMAP 943xsv is an advanced marine chartplotter and navigator. It comes with both BlueChart g3 coastal maps and LakeVü g3 inland waters maps, plus a microSD slot for adding more specialized and detailed charts and maps that are available from Garmin. The unit has a 9" (diagonal) full color display, and can be mounted in a variety of ways. It has a water rating of IPX7, and can withstand being splashed with water without worry, but unsuitable for prolonged immersion. The chartplotter adds fishfinder capabilities when you connect an optional sonar transducer that lets you search for fish beside and underneath your vessel. The unit has a water rating of IPX7, and can withstand being splashed with water without worry, but unsuitable for prolonged immersion.

Display: The GPSMAP 943xsv has a 7.8" (wide) x 4.4" (high), 9 " diagonal full color WXGA IPS (in-plane switching) touchscreen display with 1280 x 720 pixels. It has a variable backlight adjustment (automatic or manual), with day and night color schemes that change automatically or you can set manually.

Controls: The GPSMAP 943xsv has no physical control buttons, but includes a wide variety on on-screen buttons. Many of the buttons are accessible only when using a combination page or SmartMode layout, or when accessories, such as radar, are connected. Navigation buttons let you create a waypoint or route, with or without turns.

Memory Card Slots: The unit features dual microSD card slots on the rear panel. One 8 GB microSD card is included, which includes maps of coastal and inland waters, plus high resolution satellite imagery and aerial reference photos of ports, harbors, marinas, and other points of interest. The vacant slot can be used to add a blank memory card to record Garmin Quickdraw Contours mapping, record sonar (with a compatible transducer), transfer data such as waypoints and routes to another compatible chartplatter or computer, and use the ActiveCaptain app. The device support microSD cards up to 32 GB formatted to FAT32 with a speed class 4 or higher. The recommended memory card is 8 GB or higher with a speed class 10 or higher.

GPS/GLONASS: The GPSMAP 943xsv has a built-in GPS receiver that collects data from overhead satellites to establish your current location. The GPS signal strength is indicated on the top of the screen in a bar graph (5 bars maximum). The device is equipped with a 10 Hz GPS/GLONASS receiver which refreshes its position and heading 10 times per second. In addition, the unit coordinates the timing of the sonar return in relation to the boat's position to give you amazingly accurate waypoints or for pinpointing fishing hotspots.

Charts and Maps: The unit has preloaded BlueChart g3 maps, which covers the coastal US, including the East and West Coasts, the Gulf of Mexico, and the US and Canadian sides of the Great Lakes. The maps include basic charts, tidal stations, currents, depth contours, IALA symbols, and fishing charts. It also includes US LakeVü g3 Detail maps, which include over 18,000 US lakes, rivers, and reservoirs, including more than 13,000 HD lakes with 1-foot contours shoreline to shoreline. The map also has major highways, roads, and bridges, designated fishing areas, docks, boat ramps, marinas, and campgrounds.

Quickdraw Contours: The GPSMAP 943xsv features Quickdraw Contours software already installed on the device. This free software allows you to tailor the preloaded maps and create your own HD maps on the screen.

ActiveCaptain App: The free Garmin ActiveCaptain app on your mobile device provides a connection to the GPSMAP device via Wi-Fi. ActiveCaptain has a OneChart feature for accessing and updating all of your charts and maps from your smartphone or tablet, as well as purchase new ones to use on the chartplotter. You can also receive notifications of phone calls and texts on the unit's display. ActiveCaptain also lets you keep in touch with fellow boaters to get first-hand information about points of interest near your route or destination. Separate ActiveCaptain and Mobile Quickdraw communities are available for feedback or for sharing your Quickdraw Contours data. The Garmin ActiveCaptain app is compatible with devices running Android 6.0 and up, or Apple iOS 12.0 or later.

ANT+ Connectivity: You can wirelessly connect via ANT+ to additional Garmin devices, such as an inReach device, quatix marine watch, Nautix in-view display, gWind Wireless 2 transducer, GNX Wind marine instrument, and wireless remote controls. ANT+ is a 2.4GHz RF-based wireless protocol for adding sensors to compatible devices.

Mounting Options: The 943xsv consists of a display/control unit and a tilting bail mount with two side knobs for locking down its viewing position. You can also flush-mount the display/control unit into your dashboard. A flush-mount template helps you make the cut into the mounting location. A self-adhesive rubber gasket and top/bottom trim pieces are provided for flush-mount applications.

NMEA 2000 / NMEA 0183: The GPSMAP 943xsv can be connected to an NMEA 2000 network which can carry power and data along the same cable. If your vessel has an existing NMEA 2000 network, it should already be connected to power. The device can share data from other NMEA 2000 devices, such as sensors or a VHF radio, plus you may also be able to view fuel and engine data on the display. A 6' NMEA 2000 drop cable and T-connector are included. The unit also supports the NMEA 0183 standard, which is used to connect various NMEA 0183 devices, including VHF radios and instruments, autopilots, wind and heading sensors.

Sonar Capability

Fishfinder Options: The GPSMAP 943xsv can be used as a fishfinder when connected to a compatible transducer (not included). The device is equipped with a 12-pin sonar connector on the back for connecting the transducer. An 8-pin to 12-pin adapter is also included for connecting 8-pin transducers. The chartplotter supports Traditional CHIRP Sonar, as well as Ultra High Definition SideVü and ClearVü sonar. Compared to standard sonar, which sends one frequency at a time, CHIRP (Compressed High-Intensity Radiated Pulse) sends a continuous sweep of frequencies within a range from low to high. Traditional sonar emit a conical beam to provide clear fish arches with excellent target separation. ClearVü and SideVü sonar casts two narrow beams, similar to that of a copying machine, to show fish and structures directly below (ClearVü) and beside (SideVü) your vessel. The GPSMAP 943xsv can also be paired with Panoptix and Panoptix LiveScope sonar transducers. There are four basic styles of sonar views available on the chartplotter:

  • Full Screen: You can view in full screen your choice of traditional or ClearVü sonar.
  • Split-screen: The split-screen sonar views let you view different combinations of sonar data simultaneously, such as traditional sonar and ClearVü.
  • Split-zoom: The split-zoom view shows a full-view graph of sonar readings, and a magnified portion of that graph on the same screen.
  • Split-frequency: In the split-frequency sonar view, one side of the screen shows a full-view graph of high frequency sonar and the other side shows a full-view graph of lower frequency sonar data.

Chartplotting Features

Chart Views: The GPSMAP 943xsv has BlueChart g3 Coastal maps and LakeVü HD maps. The display will let you view these maps in several ways:

  • Navigation Chart: This view shows the navigation data on the included maps with details including buoys, lights, cables, depth soundings, marinas, and tide stations in an overhead view.
  • Perspective 3D Chart: The 3D chart provides a view from above and behind your vessel, and provides a visual navigation aid. This view is helpful when navigating tricky shoals, reefs, bridges, or channels, as well as entry and exit routes in unfamiliar harbors.
  • Fishing Chart: The Fishing Chart provides a detailed view of the bottom contours and depth surroundings. Navigational data is removed, and the bottom contours are enhanced for depth recognition. It is best for offshore deep-sea fishing. Note: The Fishing Chart is available with premium charts, in some areas.
  • Other Views: With some premium charts, you can use the Mariner's Eye 3D view for more detailed, 3-dimensional representations of your location. The Fish Eye 3D view shows an underwater view with greater detail of the sea floor, according to the chart information. With an optional sonar transducer, you can see suspended targets (such as fish) indicated as bright colored spheres.

Waypoints: You can mark and save up to 5000 waypoints into the unit's memory. Waypoints can be marked at your present location, or you can enter the coordinates to a waypoint at a different location. Each waypoint can be saved with a name, symbol, depth, and comments. Once a waypoint has been saved, you can select and navigate to its location. You can also measure the distance to the waypoint on the Waypoint Map.

Routes: A route is a sequence of waypoints or locations that leads you to your final destination. You can create and immediately navigate a route on the Navigation chart or the Fishing chart, or create a route by putting together a series of waypoints and turns. Up to 100 routes can be created and saved in the device.

Tracks: A track is a recording of the current path of your boat. You can designate a color for each track to differentiate them from each other. Tracks are created by automatically marking the current location at a set interval. The interval can be adjusted--recording more frequent plots increases accuracy, but fills up the track log quicker. You can also record tracks by the distance between points, or the variance from your course. You can log and save up to 50 tracks with 50,000 points.

Boundaries: Boundaries allow you to remain in or avoid designated areas in a body of water. You can set up an alarm to alert you when you enter or exit a boundary. Boundaries can be areas, lines, or circles on the map. Saved tracks and routes can also be converted into boundary lines.
