More details on the Garmin HRM-PRO™
Overview: The Garmin HRM-Pro™ is a premium heart rate monitor that is worn on the chest and wirelessly transmits real-time heart rate data to your personal training device. It uses both ANT+ (2.4GHz) and Bluetooth Low Energy wireless technologies, which gives you more options. HRM-Pro can be used with your Garmin device, such as Forerunner, fenix, Edge, Descent, quatix, swim, and tactix. It can also be used with Bluetooth or ANT+-compatible gym equipment, as well as third-party fitness apps. The HRM module is small (1.16" x 2.02" x 0.33") and lightweight, weighing only 1.7 ounces (2.1 ounces, including the strap).
Fit Information: The HRM-Pro should be worn directly on your skin, just below the sternum. It fits chests between 23.5" and 42". An optional strap extender, available from Garmin, increases the length to 56".
Wireless Technologies: The HRM-Pro transmits your heart rate data over two different technologies: ANT+ and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). Most every Garmin wearable fitness device is compatible with ANT+ sensors, and many can connect to devices via Bluetooth. The Heart Rate Monitor can have up to 2 Bluetooth Low Energy connections at the same time. There is no limit to the number of concurrent ANT+ connections.
Water Resistance: The HRM-Pro has a water-resistance rating of 5 ATM, designed to withstand pressure equivalent to a depth of 50 meters (164 feet). Not only is it sweat resistant, you can workout with it in the rain or snow, shower with it, or wear it while swimming, diving, or snorkeling.
Note: If you use the HRM-Pro in a swimming pool, you should hand wash the monitor after exposure to chlorine or other pool chemicals.
Performance: The Garmin HRM-Pro is an advanced device that does much more than measure your heart rate. It has a built-in accelerometer that measures torso movement that helps calculate six running metrics: cadence, vertical oscillation, ground contact time, ground contact time balance, stride length, and vertical ratio. While you are swimming, the heart rate monitor records and stores your heart rate data while it is underwater. The data is uploaded to your Garmin device when you save your timed swim activity. The HRM-Pro also monitors or records some of your daily activities, such as step count, calories, intensity minutes, and daily heart rate. The activity tracking feature is only available when the HRM-Pro is paired directly through the Garmin Connect app, rather than through the Bluetooth settings of your smartphone.
Power: The heart rate monitor is powered by a user-replaceable CR2032 coin cell battery (included). The battery life is estimated at 1 year, based on 1 hour of use per day.
