About the Garmin Approach® G12
A portable caddy that fits on your belt
A portable caddy that fits on your belt
Garmin's compact Approach G12 golf GPS handheld can go with you nearly anywhere, so you can feel confident when stepping on to any of its over 42,000 preloaded courses. It shows you yardages to the back, front, and middle of the green, as well as hazards on each hole. And you won't have to pay anything extra to keep its course data up to date. Plus, if you really can't relax out on the links, it'll keep you abreast of incoming calls, emails, and texts.
One cool clip-on
The Approach G12 boasts a waterproof housing that'll protect it from the elements, while the 1.3" diagonal square display on its round face offers a bright, clear view of important course views and stats. It shows you everything in monochrome, and you can switch to a negative display if that suits your fancy. And the rechargeable lithium-ion battery provides up to 30 hours of playing time on a single charge. The built-in clip and lanyard loop lets you wear it on your belt or around your neck, or you can keep it in your pocket if you choose.
Designed to help
The Approach G12 offers convenient buttons for selecting menu items. The Green View display shows you the true shape and layout of the green, even if you're behind it. You can manually reposition the pin to today's location to enhance your shot's accuracy.
Paper scorecards are inconvenient and wasteful. The Approach G12 counts your strokes and tracks your personal stats per round so you can get an overview of your game, including how far you hit with each club. Most scoring features are also printable from your home computer. The Approach G12 also packs a round timer and odometer.
Smart notifications for smartphone users
If you're worried about missing important texts, calls, alerts, and emails on the course, you can pair the Approach G12 with most recent iPhone® models and select Android™ models through Bluetooth® low energy, then receive notifications directly on its display, so you can leave your phone in your bag or on the golf cart.
Go deeper with the free Garmin Golf app
For a thorough statistical analysis, the Golf smartphone app from Garmin keeps track of your performance over time in a number of ways, so you can pull up past games on your phone to see where you need more work and where you're improving. The Golf app covers accuracy to the fairway or green and for drives, approach shots, chip shots and putting, and allows you to set baselines to see how you're faring relative to other players in your group. The Golf app also enables automatic CourseView updates for your favorite spots to the Approach G12 when you pair your devices.

More details on the Garmin Approach® G12
Overview: The Garmin Approach G12 is a golf GPS range finder that clips to your bag or worn on your belt. It has over 42,000 pre-loaded worldwide golf courses. It features a slim design that weighs less than an ounce. The Approach G12 uses a high-sensitivity GPS receiver to measure individual shot distances and show the exact yardage to fairways, hazards, and greens. The device is tournament legal, and no subscriptions or setup fees are required.
Display: The Approach G12 has a 0.9" x 0.9" high-resolution monochrome display with a resolution of 176 x 176 pixels. The high-contrast display is easily readable in bright sunlight.
Course Data: The Approach G12 has data for over 42,000 select golf courses worldwide, including nearly 18,000 in the United States. New golf courses and updates to existing courses are available for download through the Garmin Golf app, or through Garmin Express. When you connect your device to your smartphone, the golf courses you use most frequently are updated automatically. You can also update the Approach G12 using Garmin Express on your computer. Garmin Express is compatible with Windows 7 SP1 and newer, and Mac OS X 10.11 or later.
Water Resistance: The Approach G12 has an IPX7 rating, which means that the case can withstand incidental exposure to water of up to 1 meter of water for up to 30 minutes.
Play Mode: As you play, the Approach G12's Hole View automatically updates your position, giving you the exact yardage to the front, center, and back of the green, but not the actual pin location. The Hole View shows the shape of the green to show you where to aim. You can change the size of the numbers on the Hole View to easy-to-read large numbers. You can manually move the pin location on the device to get a more precise distance measurement.
Hazards, Layups, and Doglegs: The Approach G12 lets you view hole characteristics that affect shot selection along the fairways on Par 4 and Par 5 holes. Hazards are identified at the top of the screen (bunker, water, etc.), and the distances to the front and back of the hazard are given. You can view a list of layup and dogleg distances for Par 4 and 5 holes, and the distance to reach each layup.
Measuring a Shot: The Approach G12 can measure the distance of a particular shot. After hitting the shot, you can select "Measure Shot" in the menu and walk to your ball to calculate the distance.
Approach CT10 Sensors: The G12 is compatible with the optional Approach CT10 golf club sensors (sold separately). The sensors are placed on the handle end of each club, and allows the device to track your golf shots, including location, distance, and club type.
Digital Scorecard: The Approach G12 doubles as a digital scorecard, helping you keep your score and other statistics. When scoring is enabled, you will be prompted to enter your score when you are on the green. When your round is completed, you can upload your scorecard to the Garmin Golf app.
Timer/Odometer: The device has a built-in Round Timer and Odometer that lets you know how long it took to complete your round, and the distance you walked during your round.
Garmin Golf App: The free Garmin Golf app can enhance your golf game. The app allows you to compete with friends and other golfers, giving each round a tournament feel. Your scorecard is automatically uploaded when you pair your device to your smartphone. The Garmin Golf app is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch with iOS 11.0 or later, and Android devices (version varies with device).
Power Requirements: The Approach G12 operates on a built-in Lithium-Ion rechargeable battery. A fully charged battery lasts for up 30 hours (in GPS mode). The unit has a proprietary USB charging port on the back for connecting the supplied charging/data cable.
