Product Research
Features
Overview: The Garmin Tacx® Boost indoor bike trainer lets you take your bike training indoors. Boost consists of a sturdy but simple frame for your rear wheel, and a front wheel support to make the ride more realistic. The trainer includes a flywheel that lets you manually apply up to 10 levels of resistance. The Garmin Tacx Boost sets up with two simple clicks, and operates quietly, so you can train at any time without distubing others. When you're finished training, the frame folds up for compact storage. This Garmin Tacx Boost Trainer Bundle also includes the Garmin Speed Sensor to give you feedback and additional training options using the Garmin Tacx Training App.
Compatibility: The Boost bike trainer works with a wide variety of bikes. The width of the rear fork is 130mm (Race) / 135mm (MTB). When in use, the frame has a small footprint of 26.6" x 25.6" and provides a sturdy base for training.
Resistance Unit: The Garmin Tacx Boost includes a resistance unit that makes your indoor training more realistic. Your rear wheel runs on an actual flywheel to give you a pedal stroke that is smooth and realistic. The resistance unit features a magnetic brake that allows you to directly adjust the resistance via a manual lever that installs on your handlebars. You can dial in the resistance you want, with 10 levels to choose from. The trainer requires no external power.
Speed Sensor: The Garmin Tacx Boost Bundle comes with the Garmin Speed Sensor which mounts to the hub of your bike's rear wheel. The sensor pairs with your smartphone or tablet via Bluetooth and provides speed data and other performance feedback to the Tacx Training app (see more below). You can track speed, distance, and virtual power when training with the Garmin Tacx Training app, or other apps like Zwift or TrainerRoad. The Speed Sensor is powered by a CR2032 coin cell battery (installed).
Assembly: The Garmin Tacx Boost comes out of the box in three main pieces: the frame, resistance unit (with attached cable and handlebar lever), and front wheel support. The resistance unit must be mounted to the frame using the included hardware. There are three mounting positions based upon the diameter of your rear wheel (including the tire). The magnetic brake lever attaches to your handlebar with a clamp-style mount, with three rubber inserts to use, based on the diameter of the handlebars.
Preparing to Train: Prior to beginning your training, you must place the bike in the trainer frame, and lock it into place. The front wheel is placed in the provided support to give you a more level and realistic ride. The resistance unit is raised into place until it touches the rear wheel. Once you choose a resistance level (on the handlebar lever), you are ready to train.
Tacx Training App: The Garmin Tacx Training App, loaded on your smartphone or tablet, takes data from the included speed sensor and provides you with valuable feedback and workout data. The app calculates your Virtual Power, based on the speed readings from the speed sensor and the resistance setting on the Garmin Tacx Boost. You can create workouts, analyze your performance, and export your data to other training sites. The Garmin Tacx Training App is available from Google Play for Android devices (6.0 and up), and from the Apple App Store for iOS devices (11.0 or later).
After Training: Once your training session is over, the Garmin Tacx Boost folds up for compact storage. The front wheel support fits into the frame to provide a carrying handle.
Training Tires: You can use your regular tires in the Boost bike trainer, however, you may opt for a dedicated training tire to prevent excessive tire wear. You can choose from four sizes of Garmin Tacx Trainer Tires for use on the Garmin Tacx Boost.
