Works with SiriusXM Fish Mapping

Fish Mapping from SiriusXM is a new subscription service which uses real-time data to help you locate the prime fishing spots for your favorite catches. You'll see a wealth of info on your Garmin chartplotter's screen, including sea temperature contours, concentrations of floating algae and plants, plankton concentration contours, and regularly updated recommendations based on actual catches. Using the detailed Fish Mapping data and other info from your Garmin device, you'll be able to find bounties for a variety of fish species, including marlin, tuna, and swordfish. You'll save time and fuel by going right to the optimal spots, thanks to the GXM 54, your compatible Garmin chartplotter, and your paid SiriusXM Fish Mapping package subscription.

Weather and satellite radio, too

The GXM 54 connects to the Garmin Marine Network and sends your chartplotter all the weather news you need. An Ethernet connection means you get high-bandwidth data transfer through a single cable, and you can also access your favorite SiriusXM satellite radio stations (tuner and subscription required).

Whether you choose to mount it on a surface or on a pole, the GXM 54 is easy to install on your boat. And if you have an older GXM 52 or 53 model, upgrading is easy, since they use the same mount.

Features

Overview: The Garmin GXM 54 is an antenna/satellite receiver for adding SiriusXM Satellite Radio and Weather to compatible Garmin chartplotters. The receiver/antenna connects to the Garmin Marine Network for delivering highly detailed weather information, including NEXRAD, lightning, water temperatures, wind/wave conditions, and forecast data. It also has a optional fish mapping feature. You can also receive over 150 channels of SiriusXM audio, with your required paid subscription. The GXM 54 comes with pole and surface mounts, power and audio module, and additional cable.

Fish Mapping Service: An optional Fish Mapping service, available from SiriusXM helps you locate fish. The service can show you potential hot spots for popular species, such as Bluefin Tuna, Mahi, Swordfish, Blue Marlin, Yellowfin Tuna, and Wahoo. It can also indicate plankton concentrations, floating algae, and more. The service marks directly on your boat's display where the bait fish are gathering, and where the game fish are hunting.

Installation: The GXM 54 comes with a pole mount and a surface mount bracket. The pole mount allows you to attach the antenna to a standard 1" OD, 14 threads-per-inch, pipe-threaded pole. The pole mount allows you to route the cable outside of the pole or through it. The surface mount requires a triangular jigsaw-cut hole in the mounting surface for routing the wires. A Surface Mount template is included. Both mounts allow the antenna to twist-fit into the bracket, which is then secured with the two included M3 x 8mm set screws. A 1.5mm Allen wrench (not included) is required to tighten/loosen the set screws.

Connections: The GXM 54 comes with a power/audio module with three 6.5' cables for power (bare wire), antenna (9-pin), and audio (stereo RCA). A 20' antenna extension cable is also included. The antenna cable connects to the chartplotter via an Ethernet connection (RJ45). The power module (5" x 2" x 1.5") will need to be surface mounted with the included hardware, or otherwise secured.

A
Unfortunately, this is the only Garmin antenna we carry. It is not listed for the 1040xs.

Q
Is the gxm 53 compatible with the Simrad nss eco 3?
[ Ken  Nov 01, 2019 ]
1 answer
A
Hi Ken, thank you for your question. While we do not offer Simrad gear here at Crutchfield, the research I have performed shows that Garmin and Simrad are not compatible with each other, and have proprietary connections. You may wish to reach out to Garmin or Simrad for further information.
