Garmin Montana 750i GPS handheld navigator

See and feel your way with a colorful 5" touchscreen

The 5" color touchscreen on the Montana 750i lets you check out the included basemap and routable topographic maps, even in direct sunlight. The dual-orientation display lets you view maps in portrait or landscape mode — whatever works for you. The navigator's expedition mode offers up to 300 hours of battery life while tracking your location every 30 minutes, while the GPS mode offers up to 18 hours of life with the rechargeable battery.

Built-in camera for vacation pics

You might not consider yourself a shutterbug, but the Montana's 8-megapixel digital camera could remedy that. It features autofocus to help images look their best, plus automatic geotagging (which can be disabled). You can return to the exact same spots on future excursions and let your friends find them as well, if you choose to share your photos.

Ready for abuse from man and nature

Not only is the Montana 750i built to military specifications for temperature and shock conditions, it also boasts resistance to damage by vibrations, so you can take it on the most challenging trails and waterways around. A variety of optional mounts let you safely use this navigator with your bicycle, boat, motorcycle, car, RV, or ATV. And of course, it's IPX7 waterproof rated, so it'll be fine if it falls into puddles or streams.

A bounty of maps

The Montana 750i comes preloaded with a comprehensive basemap with shaded relief, plus Garmin TopoActive mapping for the U.S. and Canada that provides on- and off-road guidance. You also get direct-to-device BirdsEye Satellite Imagery downloads with no subscription fees, giving you a photographic aerial perspective of your surroundings. This Montana also includes a U.S. Federal Public Lands map so you'll be able to tell if you're encroaching on private property.

The navigator's compatible with a wide selection of add-on maps, including topographic, automotive turn-by-turn, custom, and marine maps and charts from Garmin, plus raster and vector maps. It also supports geocaching GPX files so you can download adventures straight to your device, saving paper and giving you more time to search.

Maintain contact with the Garmin Explore app and inReach technology

Garmin's Explore app lets you map, sync, and share your treks from anywhere, including regions without cell coverage. And the app's your lifeline to the Iridium global satellite network, so when you trigger an SOS the GEOS 24/7 emergency response team will track your device and contact the nearest emergency responders.

If you're part of an expedition, text communication with the rest of your crew is easy as long as you're all using compatible Garmin handhelds, wearables, or other mobile devices with inReach — you also get LiveTrack location sharing so people can follow your position remotely. inReach weather forecasts can keep your device up-to-date on changing conditions nearby. A subscription is required to access the Iridium global satellite network.

Perfect positioning

The Montana 750i features a powerful antenna and sensitive GNSS receiver which works with GPS and Galileo satellite networks. It'll find you in a hurry and lock on to your position, whether you're in a deep canyon and under thick foliage, or surrounded by skyscrapers. The handheld's 3-axis electronic compass, barometer, and altimeter help keep you on course.

Take more maps with you

The Montana 750i offers 16 GB of onboard memory, so you can download additional topo, marine, and road maps with ease. It'll also accept maps via microSD™ card. Garmin's Custom Maps feature lets you transform your old paper and electronic maps into downloadable maps you can transfer to the handheld, for extra backup.

Garmin Connect keeps you in the loop

The Garmin Connect app keeps you up-to-date on weather alerts, including predictive maps for temperature, wind, precipitation, and clouds — all through your mobile device with cell service. It also connects you with Geocaching Live for real-time fun as new caches are uploaded nearby. And you can keep up with other Garmin users through the Garmin Connect online community, where you can find new places to discover and trails to explore.

More details on the Garmin Montana® 750i

Product Research

Features

Overview: The Garmin Montana® 750i handheld GPS navigator (010-02347-00) is a rugged, water-resistant device with preloaded topographical maps of the U.S. and Canada. In addition, you can download satellite views directly to the unit (Wi-Fi connection required) to help you navigate based on landmarks. You can stay connected when you're off the grid with messaging and SOS capability through the built-in inReach satellite network. The Montana 750i is equipped with an 8-megapixel camera for taking photographs of your adventures. The device is powered by a Lithium-ion rechargeable battery, and comes with a USB charging cable. Optional mounts are available for motorcycles, ATVs, boats, and cars/trucks. The Montana 750i measures 3.4" wide, 7.2" high, and 1.3" deep, and weighs 14.5 ounces (including the battery).

Built-in Camera: The device has a built-in 8MP camera to let you capture photos of your travels. You can capture photos at resolutions of 2MP (Low), 5MP (Normal), or 8MP (High), and save them to the internal memory or a microSD card, if present. In the menu, you can geotag your photos with the geographic coordinates so you can navigate to that location again. When lighting is low, or if enabled in the menu, the LED on the back of the device will flash when you take the photo. If necessary, you can pinch or spread two fingers on the touchscreen to zoom in or out. To focus, hold your finger on the shutter button until the frame turns from white to green. To take the photo, release the photo button. If you decide not to take the photo, simply slide your finger off the button.

5" Touchscreen: The Montana 750i is equipped with a backlit 5" (diagonal) touchscreen display with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. You can view and lock the display in portrait or landscape orientation, or switch between orientations automatically depending upon how you hold (or mount) the device. In the menu, you can set the backlight to stay on, or time out in 15 seconds, 30 seconds, 1 minute, or 2 minutes. The Battery Save feature, when activated, turns off the display when the backlight times out.

Battery Options: The Montana 750i comes with a rechargeable Lithium-ion battery (3.8 volts, 3100mAh, 11.8Wh) that fits into the back panel of the device. In GPS mode, the battery has an estimated battery life of 18 hours. To prolong battery life, you can switch to Expedition Mode, which turns on low power mode, turns off the display screen, and the device collects fewer GPS points. In Expedition Mode, battery life is extended to approximately 2 weeks (300 hours). Live tracking decreases battery life. The battery is charged while the included USB cable is plugged into a USB power source, including an AC adapter or computer USB port.

microSD Slot: The Montana 750i has a built-in 16 GB flash memory for the included mapping, and for storing your tracks, routes, waypoints, and photos. If additional storage is needed for optional maps, you can add a microSD card up to 32 GB.

Rugged Build: The device is built to military standards (MIL-STD 810) for thermal, shock, water, and vibration. Its IPX7 water rating means the device can withstand incidental exposure of water of up to 1 meter for up to 30 minutes.

Map Options: The Montana 750i is equipped with preloaded topographical maps of the United States and Canada. The 15000 loaded map segments include elevations, terrain contours, as well as rivers, coastlines, and landmarks to help you navigate your trip. You can get clear views of U.S. federal public land boundaries, including National Parks, and National Forests, plus state and local parks and wilderness areas. The maps include parks, campgrounds, and other points of interest that you can search for.

Satellite Settings: The Montana 750i receives signals from overhead satellites from the U.S.-based Global Positioning System (GPS). In addition, you can set the unit to receive signals from GPS satellites, as well as signals from GLONASS (Russia) or Galileo (Europe) positioning systems. Enabling WAAS (Wide Area Augmentation System) helps to improve the accuracy of the GPS receiver.

inReach® Technology: The Montana 750i features inReach Technology, which enables you to send and receive text messages over the Iridium® satellite network. Text messages can be sent to an SMS phone number, email address, or another inReach-compatible device. You can send preset messages, or edit a pre-written message. To make it easier to type messages, the Montana 750i has a full on-screen QWERTY keyboard. When an emergency arises, you can send an SOS message to the GEOS International Emergency Rescue Coordination Center (IERCC) to request assistance. A dedicated SOS button is located along the right edge of the device under a protective cover. When an SOS is sent, a default message is sent, along with details about your location. You can interact with the agency during the rescue, if needed. If assistance is no longer needed, you can cancel the SOS request. The inReach subscription also offers weather information, including basic, premium and marine forecasts.

Note: The inReach features must first be activated on the device before you can use them. An active inReach subscription is required.

Wireless Connectivity: The Garmin Montana 750i features many connected features when the device is paired via Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or ANT+. Pairing the device to your smartphone lets you use the Garmin Explore app to sync and share your routes, tracks, or waypoints to others. You can also use the app to download maps to your phone for offline access. Phone notifications will also be received on the device through the app. When connected to a Wi-Fi network, you can take advantage of many of the same features as when connected via Bluetooth. You must be on a Wi-Fi network to download BirdsEye Direct satellite imagery to the unit. Many add-on sensors, such as heart rate monitors, temperature sensors, speed and cadence monitors, can connect wirelessly via ANT+ protocol.

ABC Sensors: Known as the ABC sensors, the device's altimeter, barometer, and (electronic) compass help you navigate your favorite trail or find your location. The altimeter displays the elevation over the distance traveled. The barometer indicates the current barometric pressure. The Barometer Mode on the Altimeter shows the changes in pressure as you ascend or descend the current trail. The 3-axis electronic compass utilizes the GPS data to determine your heading. After traveling long distances, or if you experience irregular compass behavior, you can recalibrate the compass in the device's menu.

BirdsEye Satellite Imagery: The Montana 750i provides access to BirdsEye Satellite Imagery without the required annual subscription. BirdsEye Imagery lets you view detailed, high-resolution color satellite imagery on your device to give you a true representation of your surroundings. The images can be layered with optional TOPO or City Navigator maps for a real-life view of roads, buildings, and terrain. You must be connected to a Wi-Fi network before you can download BirdsEye Satellite Imagery directly to your device.

Active Weather: You can receive up-to-date Active Weather forecasts through the Garmin Connect app when the Montana 750i is paired to your smartphone via Bluetooth or connected to a Wi-Fi network with an active internet connection. Hourly and daily weather forecasts are available, plus live graphical weather maps.

Optional Mounts: If you wish to mount the Montana 750i in a vehicle, there are optional mounts available for purchase. You can adapt the device to use on a motorcycle or ATV with the Motorcycle/ATV Mount Kit. The Marine Mount lets you take the Montana 750i on the water. Both kits are available from Crutchfield, and contain a 12-volt power cable, as well as an audio cable. Garmin also offers a vehicle suction cup mount with a speaker, and a bicycle handlebar mount.
