The portable friction mount features a weighted nylon pad with a non-slip base to secure your Garmin GPS unit in your vehicle without a permanent installation. The friction mount features a detachable swivel mounting arm that connects to the ball socket on the rear-panel of the Garmin StreetPilot and nüvi models. Once you have positioned the 360-degree swivel arm in place you can lock the arm so it will not swivel or detach.

I don't like the windshield mount - they typically fall off the windshield and scare me to death when I'm driving... Just 'sayin [ Deborah  Jul 04, 2018 ]
A
Very easy to use and works fine in my car. [ Robert  Feb 25, 2018 ]
A
This friction mount keeps the GPS visible and reachable on top of the dash, and makes it easy to quickly stow away the unit when not in use. From past experience, suction cup mounts have a tendency of popping out, which is very annoying to say the least. [ R  Feb 20, 2018 ]

Better than a window mount that always falls [ Chris  Nov 01, 2017 ]

Didn't want to mount on windshield as it probably won't stay very long. Plus this is easier to swap between multiple vehicles. [ K  Feb 25, 2016 ]
A
I purchased this so that I did not have to suction the GPS to the window. Being an outside business development manager, I go to unknown areas around the Midwest, and a ring on the window makes for a prime target. Now I can quickly put my GPS away and never fear of the unit falling off the glass. [ Nicholas  Feb 11, 2016 ]

I chose the Garmin Portable Friction Mount to allow more options for mounting the 7 inch Garmin in my pickup. I selected the larger screen size Garmin to allow better viewing with my old eyes, but did not want to restrict visibility out my pickup windshield. Also, my wife is much shorter than I and while the pickup seat adjusts in height, I want to avoid a visibility issue for her when she is driving the pickup with 5th wheel trailer in tow. [ Alan  Feb 07, 2016 ]
A
Picked because of comments on ease of use. [ M A  Dec 19, 2015 ]

Q
will this fit 2014 jeep wrangler?
[ brice  Jun 04, 2019 ]
3 answers
A
nothing really to "fit" since it just sits anywhere on your dash. I love it since I can position it so I can readily see it and yet not interfere with my overall vision out the window. It's sort of like a 4 sided bean bag which holds the Garmin in place on the dash. So much better than something that attaches the Garmin to just one spot. Definitely worth a try.

I bought this friction mount and gave it to our daughter. She uses it in her 2016 Camry and has had no problems. It is basically a sand filled base with anti-slip underside.
[ Mark  Jun 04, 2019 ]
A
There's no "fit" involved, really, it's just a heavy base that sits on the dash. Should work in any vehicle.
[ PAUL G  Jun 04, 2019 ]

I need a larger "clip" for my friction mount. Where do I find this?

Is the dash mount easy to install?

A
yes
[ Antonio  Jan 30, 2017 ]
A
There is almost nothing to "install" with this dash mount. The GPS "holder" snaps onto the ball, which allows the GPS to be positioned for viewing and the dash mount itself simply sits on the dash. The "feet" of the mount contain metal balls that prevent the mount from sliding on the dash itself. Nothing could be easier and it works!
[ RICHARD W  Nov 29, 2015 ]
A
There's really nothing to install! The mount is attached to a kind of heavy beanbag that keeps the navi unit from moving around on the dash. Just click the unit into the mount, drop the whole thing on the dash and off you go! Convenient in that you can easily drop the unit and mount in a center console or glove box to keep out of sight from prying eyes. Enjoy!
[ ROBERT J  Nov 29, 2015 ]
A
Yes! It just sits on dash. Have absolutely no trouble with it sliding off. Very satisfied with it.
[ GEORGE  Nov 29, 2015 ]
A
Yes, it's easy to install.

Q
I have one for a 6 year old 4.3" screen NUVI. Will mine work with the larger 5" screen NUVI?
[ Wayne  Dec 20, 2013 ]
1 answer
A
You will want to contact an Advisor by phone or online chat to discuss compatibility with your current gear. They will be able to pull up your Nuvi and see if this will work with it. If it does not, then they will also be able to discuss other options with you.
