Garmin Mount
Crutchfield customer from San Juan, PR on 12/29/2021
This mount is great for the Garmin. Prefer it to having it on the windshield mount. Can even place it on the drivers seat. Easy to assemble & disassemble. I have a small carrying case for the Garmin, & the mount. A small carrying case would be useful. Keeps everything together. Garmin has these cases.
Pros: Easy to assemble & disassemble.

Oops. Back to the drawing board.
Patricia from Lufkin, TX on 3/21/2017
The connecting ball is above the camera. So the pedestal on the Portable Friction Mount is in front of the camera. So back to the drawing board for research and development. A hint, two legs with an opening in between the legs instead of a solid pedestal would do the trick.
Pros: Nice mount!
Cons: Camera takes a lovely picture of the pedistal support. Unless I am missing something, but can't imagine what!

It's much better for me than windshield mounts and provides a sturdy base for your GPS on most locations in the vehicle.
Pros: Sturdy and slide resistant mount. No windshield ring residue.
Cons: A bit pricey but you get what you pay for in this instance.

Bought this with a Garmin nuvi 2797 and really like it. I would buy again and certainly recommend it to a friend.
Pros: Flexible, non slip, easily adjustable, put away with nuvi so no indication of a portable (non factory installed) GPS. Able to mount anywhere on the dash for the comfort of either my wife or I. Easily swappable between vehicles.
Cons: None

This is an outstanding mount that is inexpensive and relatively unobtrusive
Pros: It allows mounting a GPS on the dash. This position allows the driver many more positioning options than if mounted to the windshield. The mount holds it position during spirited acceleration, braking and cornering.

Excellent Mount
dkeeton from Rockville, VA on 3/22/2014
This mount gets the job done, pure and simple. I've used this mount for years with no problems. The 4 beanbag "ears" conform to any dashboard contour with no problem at all. The vertical part of the unit easily detaches making it convenient for storage in a console or glove box. Although I've been using the Nuvi GPS clip mount that attaches to the 17mm ball on the unit, I'm currently purchasing a smartphone cradle that should snap on the ball mount as well.
Pros: non slip surface, stays put
Cons: none

Portable Friction Mount
Ron from Northern Colorado on 1/14/2014
The included windshield suction cup mount may fail if left attached overnight. Many reviews made mention of this and the portable friction mount solves that issue. The unit stays in place in normal driving, even on winding mountain roads. Granted it's not being used in a race car. A good addition to the Garmin GPS unit.
Pros: This friction mount keeps the Garmin GPS unit in place well.
Cons: A little bulky for packing in a suitcase when flying, but it's worth the room it takes up once in-use at the destination.

This friction mount is the only way to go as far as mounting your Garmin GPS. No mess, no falling off your windshield, it's great. This is the third friction mount we have bought and could not be more satisfied with it's performance. Thanks
Pros: Stable mounting, easily removed and hidden to keep from drawing attention.
Cons: None

Pretty good so far.
Bill P from Pine Grove, CA on 9/15/2013
The Portable Friction Mount holds our Garmin device securely. The clamp connection of the base to the magnetic mount is a big improvement over the suction cup connection on our old TomTom. The base is also sleeker and more compact then the TomTom base, but we have had one occasion where the whole unit slid off the dash of our Subaru Outback while making a fairly quick right-angle turn; our TomTom never slid in 4 years of use.
Pros: Convenient size. Easy to place on dash. Excellent clamp connection to device mount.
Cons: Has slid off the dash on one occasion.

Pros: Can put it where you want it on dash & it stays put
Cons: Little bulky but it fits fine in my glove compartment

Easy placement - distance and direction - precisely where I need the GPS to sit in either auto.
Pros: Easy to set up and use....
Cons: If you have excess cord its weight may gradually reorient the GPS screen. Have to be careful about locating the excess cord... so it does not drag away the GPS screen.

Works as supposed to..
Brian from NW Ohio on 7/17/2012
I bought this to use with my Garmin 2555LMT that I just bought on here and recently used this mount on a trip and I have no complaints. It has a kind of rubbery bottom surface that sticks to the dash with out actually having any adhesive, so it's easy to move and take off the dash when not in use. If you're on an especially bumpy road after a while you may need to adjust the mount as it may vibrate slightly from where you placed it, but no big deal. On regular, decent roads it should stay put just fine.

Really pleased with the Garmin friction mount for my GPS. . I had tried various ones with older Garmin GPS and they either came off or had to be stuck together to the dashboard with Crazy Glue. This new one is sturdy and not once has it come lose or feel wobbly. And it's easy to remove.

Sue from Decatur, AL on 4/24/2011
Great holder - so much easier to use than the windshield mount which places the GPS out of easy reach. Also when parking, the mount and GPS can quickly be placed out of the sun and returned just as quickly. Have owned another friction mount, but this one conforms much better to dips on the surface and holds on great.

If you like EASY ...
Al from Alexandria, VA on 9/19/2010
... you'll love this. No squiggling to attache an unwieldy suction cup to the deeply slanted windshield on a rough surfaced dash. More importantly, you can remove it and restore it in a wink -- so you don't leave tempting evidence that there is a valuable GPS inside, just waiting for someone to break into you car and steal it with who knows what else. Innovative and smart.

This is a great accessory to the Garmin Nuvi 550. Also it allows one to use their GPS when neccessary and not have it permanently attached to the car.
