Big, bold RV guidance from the pros at Garmin
Big, bold RV guidance from the pros at Garmin
Your RV's like a second home — heck maybe it's your only home — so why not get truly comfortable? Garmin's RV 890 portable navigator boasts an 8" high-resolution touchscreen display that works in both portrait and landscape mode, so you can have your view of choice from the driver's seat. You can take advantage of custom routing for your RV or camper van (including trailers or towed cars), plus built-in Wi-Fi® for software updates, and free traffic reports and map updates for hassle-free travel. Garmin's voice assistant answers your beck and call so you can look for destinations and stopping points without taking your hands off the wheel.
An 8" screen that works how you want it to
The eye-catching 8" display features multi-touch control for simple command of its preloaded maps and other functions. And it works in either portrait or landscape mode, so you can choose which vantage suits your needs. You'll have maps of the U.S., Canada, much of Mexico, and some Caribbean islands at your disposal, plus millions of stopping points, including RV-friendly spots with showers and Wi-Fi. You can also add your own favorite destinations when you've found a place that's really off the beaten path. And with one tap of the screen, Garmin's Up Ahead feature pulls up details for services that lie ahead on your route, including restaurants, gas stations, and more. You also get up to four free map updates per year to keep you current on road changes.
For those who aren't keen on mounting a large item on your windshield, Garmin includes a screw-down mount for your RV's dashboard or console. The RV 890 also comes with a 1" ball-mount adapter plate that's compatible with many third-party solutions, including RAM-style mounts.
Routing for your vehicles
Road restrictions info enables the RV 890 to find the perfect route for your RV. You can build a custom profile with your RV's height, weight, length, width, and trailer or towed car details, and the navigator will deliver the best, safest route to your destination on most roadways in the contiguous 48 states and Canada. If you're in a hurry, Garmin includes standard RV sizes which allow you to change your vehicle profile with the push of button. And you can plan trips with multiple stops and save routes for future reference with ease.
The navigator's elevation map tool gives you info on elevation along your route while viewing the map screen. You can tap the screen for more detail about potential steep grades before you hit a hill your RV might not be ready for.
Need a break? Find a nearby RV-friendly locale
The RV 890 includes a database of RV parks and services around the globe, giving you instant access to thousands of sites in North America and beyond. You'll be able to find RV parks and campgrounds quickly, and you can narrow your search by type of amenities desired, including pet-friendly, on-site laundry, electric hookups, Wi-Fi, and more. You can also narrow your search to include results from PlanRV Parks, iOverland, Ultimate Public Campgrounds, and KOA, as well as European directories. The included PlanRV directory can point you to nearby garages that can help if your RV breaks down or needs service.
Get warnings for tricky road conditions and situations
Worried about possible dangerous road conditions? The RV 890 provides upcoming highway info, such as sharp curves, high winds, and weight limits. You'll also get local info like bridge heights and animal or railroad crossings. If you're in an area with one-way streets or school zones, you'll get a heads-up about paying attention to the speed limit or driving in the wrong direction. The navigator also provides mile marker locations, along with border notices five miles before you reach a new state line or the border to a different country.
Garmin's Drive app for more intelligent adventures
You can pair the RV 890 with your iPhone® or Android™ smartphone to take advantage of the free Garmin Drive app, which allows the two devices to share information, such as saved and recently found locations, where you parked, and your current destination. The Drive app also provides smart notifications to your navigator for incoming calls and texts so you won't miss anything important. You can also subscribe to dynamic services from Garmin for more road-friendly content like advanced weather reports, live parking, and traffic camera locations for an additional fee.
Garmin's Live Traffic service is also available for free through the Garmin Drive app. When your phone is paired with the navigator, you'll see real-time traffic info detailed on the navigator's screen.
Points of interest via Foursquare®, TripAdvisor®, and HISTORY®
This Garmin comes with crowd-sourced points of interest from TripAdvisor and Foursquare, giving you user-verified info for millions of stops along America's roadways. You'll find the most relevant and popular hotels, restaurants, and roadside attractions within seconds, many with TripAdvisor ratings. HISTORY (also known as The History Channel) points of interest offer pictures and descriptions of notable parks, monuments, museums and historic sites.
Just say where you want to go
You can activate the RV 890's guidance by using your voice — simply speak one of its recognizable commands and it'll get started. Hit the road without using your hands for safer exploring.
Guidance like your grandpa would give
The powerful built-in speaker overcomes engine noise so you can hear about upcoming maneuvers. The navigator offers Garmin Real Directions with Garmin Real Voice, a combination that helps keep you relaxed as you drive. Real Directions voice prompts speak the instructions to you like a friend would, using easy-to-see landmarks, buildings and businesses, and traffic lights, rather than streets with tiny signs that you might not see in time. With Real Voice technology, you'll hear directions spoken in a personable, human-sounding voice that you'll comprehend readily.
Stay on the right path
Active Lane Guidance shows you colored arrows for the correct lane for an upcoming turn, while 3-D representations of buildings and terrain help give you a better perspective of where you are. You'll see these visual features in a split-screen with your overall route so you won't lose sight of what's further down the road. This Garmin's also compatible with the optional Garmin BC35 wireless rear-view camera, so you can add an extra layer of safety when you're backing up. You can even connect to a wired rear-view camera, if it has a 3.5mm composite video output. And if you're thinking about adding a dash camera, the RV 1090 offers a USB port that'll power select Garmin devices, keeping your RV's 12-volt power port free for other portables.
Convenient Bluetooth® compatibility
The Garmin's built-in Bluetooth connectivity allows you to conduct phone calls hands-free with your compatible phone. You can keep in touch with friends and family without diverting your attention from the road ahead. Most points of interest in Garmin's database include the phone numbers, so you can call ahead to make reservations at restaurants or check availability at nearby campgrounds.
Built-in Wi-Fi lets you update without wires
Nobody wants to hook their navigator up to their computer when it's time to get a map update or other software change. With built-in Wi-Fi connectivity you can perform updates from your vehicle, so long as you're connected to a Wi-Fi signal or a public hotspot that doesn't require a web browser sign-in.

It is designed for recreational vehicles (RVs), and includes customized RV routing for the United States, Mexico, and Canada. With built-in Bluetooth, you can make and receive hands-free phone calls through a Bluetooth-enabled phone, plus receive traffic, weather, and other live services through the free Garmin Drive app. The RV 890 comes with a powerful suction cup windshield mount, as well as a screw-down permanent mount. The device also has an input for adding an optional backup camera.
8" Touchscreen LCD: The RV 890 features a large 8" touchscreen display (measured diagonally) with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. You can view the maps in either landscape or portrait mode, depending upon how you orient the screen. The device can be set to automatically rotate the display when the device is rotated, or remain in the currently selected orientation. The screen features on-cell capacitive-touch technology to let you zoom in and out of the map with a pinch or spread motion.
Preloaded Maps: The RV 890 contains HERE's City Navigator North America NT 2021 maps. Maps includes detailed coverage of the United States, Mexico, and Canada, plus Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, and Bahamas. In addition, the device has several map features specifically designed for RVs and camping, such as a directory of RV parks and services, National Parks, and public campgrounds.
Free Lifetime Map Updates: The RV 890 offers free lifetime map updates so you'll always have the most up-to-date maps, POIs, and navigation information. Map updates are available for download up to 4 times a year with no subscription or update fees and no expiration dates. Map updates can be obtained by connecting the device to a Wi-Fi network and directly download the maps, or connect the device to your computer and obtain the updates through Garmin Express.
Wi-Fi Compatible: You can keep the device updated with the latest maps and software without connecting it to a computer. When connected to a Wi-Fi network, the device checks for available updates, and displays an icon on the screen. The connected network is added to the list of saved networks, and will reconnect automatically when it is within range.
Garmin Express: You can connect the unit to your computer with the supplied USB cable for downloading map updates, custom POIs, voices, and vehicles. You will need to download the Garmin Express software to update your maps and register the unit. Garmin Express requires Windows 7 SP1 or newer or Mac OS X 10.11 or higher.
RV Parks and Services Directory: The Garmin RV 890 includes a directory of thousands of RV parks and campgrounds, as well as service locations in the coverage area. You can search for sites with various amenities, including hookups (full, electric, water, pull-throughs, dump stations), accessibility (pet-friendly, handicap, big-rigs), recreational (boating, fishing, swimming, cable TV, internet), and service (truck stops, towing, repairs, tires). Additional content from Ultimate Public Campgrounds, KOA, iOverlander, and PlanRV.
Customized RV Routing: The included maps feature RV-related restrictions, such as bridge heights, and related information for most major highways. After entering your RV's dimensions (height, weight, width, and length), the device will find routes that are suitable for your RV. While traveling, the unit will display the elevation grade of your current route.
Avoidances: You can program the unit to avoid certain things that may be undesirable on your route. The device can avoid areas with environmental or emissions restrictions that may apply to your vehicle. Other examples of things that can be avoided include U-Turns, Highways, Carpool Lanes, Unpaved Roads, and Ferries. You can also add Custom Avoidances for certain areas and roads.
Bluetooth: The RV 890 has built-in Bluetooth technology. This allows you to sync the unit with a Bluetooth-enabled device for hands-free calling through its integrated microphone and speaker. You can make and receive phone calls as long as the devices are within 33 feet and paired.
microSD Card Slot: The RV 890 has a microSD card slot for optional map updates. Optional microSD cards, up to 256 GB, can be inserted to store and use optional City Navigator maps (available from Garmin), or download and save vehicle icons from the Garmin Garage.
Windshield Mount: The unit comes with the Garmin Suction Cup and Magnetic Mount. The mount has an extra large 3.4" diameter suction cup for mounting the device on your windshield or dashboard. The RV 890 attaches to the mount with a strong magnet, allowing you to remove the device from the mount easily, without having to disconnect any cables. The mount has the Micro USB port for the included vehicle power adapter, plus a Type A USB port and 3.5mm video input for optional Garmin backup cameras.
Screw-down Mount: In addition to the windshield mount, the RV 890 also includes a more permanent screw-down mount. The 3.4" diameter base has 3 screw holes for the included mounting screws. The screw-down mount has a soft foam pad on the bottom. If using the screw-down mount, you will need to use the ball mount arm and thumbscrew from the magnetic mount.
Ball Mount: A 1" Ball Mount Adapter is included to allow you to mount the RV 890 with many third-party device mounts, including RAM-branded mounts. The ball adapter has the standard AMPS rectangular screw pattern that matches many third-party mounts.
Power Requirements: The Garmin RV 890 is powered by your vehicle's battery using the included 12-volt vehicle power adapter. The built-in Lithium-Ion battery will provide up to 2 hours of use after a full charge.
Optional Backup Cameras: The RV 890 is compatible with the Garmin BC35 Wireless Backup Camera (sold separately). The BC35 helps you to see what's behind your vehicle when backing up. The camera can pair via Wi-Fi to the RV 890 and transmit a clear view from the rear of your RV. (The transmitter should be installed within 10 feet of the RV 890.) The BC35 is hardwired to your vehicle's reverse light circuit, which powers the camera on when you shift the vehicle into reverse. Wiring it to a constant power circuit lets you view the camera's video at any time. Up to 4 BC35 cameras can be paired to the RV 890 at once to provide multiple views of your RV. The RV 890 also has a 3.5mm composite video input for connecting a wired backup camera.
Dash Cam Power Source: The Type A USB port on the side of the magnetic mount provides a convenient power source for an optional Garmin Dash Cam. The Garmin Dash Cam 66W, Dash Cam 56, Dash Cam 46, and Dash Cam Mini (all sold separately), can be powered by plugging in the camera's USB power cable into the RV 890's magnetic mount's USB port.
Garmin Real Directions: The RV 890 features Garmin Real Directions with easy-to-understand driving directions using recognizable landmarks, buildings, and traffic lights, in addition to spoken street names.
Voice Command: You can use your voice to activate and operate the RV 890. Voice Command allows you to use the device by speaking words and commands and following the voice prompts. After speaking a predetermined Wakeup Phrase, you can enter the names and/or address of popular, well-known locations. If necessary, you can disable voice prompts without muting the device, so you'll still hear the audible directions as you travel.
Garmin Drive: Garmin Drive is a smartphone application that allows the device to download live data using your phone's data connection, and transferring the data wirelessly via Bluetooth. The free Garmin Drive app provides access to real-time services, such as live traffic, basic weather, live fuel prices, and live parking. Notifications from your smartphone, such as text messages, calendar reminders, or app alerts, are sent to the RV 890 for viewing. Garmin Drive is compatible with devices running iOS 12.0 or later, or Android 6.0 or higher.
Traffic: Using the Garmin Drive app on your smartphone, you can receive subscription-free traffic data for interstates and major highways in over 50 metropolitan areas in the continental U.S. from HERE WeGo. The app has a refresh rate of 1 minute. Garmin Drive also provides advanced weather radar and severe weather alerts.
Points of Interest: The built-in maps include millions of Points of Interest (POIs) from the vast Foresquare database, such as hotels, restaurants, gas stations, attractions, and ATMs. With the help of TripAdvisor, the world's largest travel site, you can view ratings for many of your destinations. A travel database from The History Channel provides additional pictures and descriptions of notable historic sites, monuments, museums, and parks.
Active Lane Guidance: Active Lane Guidance with voice prompts lets you know in advance which lane you should to be in to make an upcoming turn. In select metropolitan areas, the RV 890 will enter split screen mode to display the photoReal junction view, a realistic depiction of the junction, complete with road signs and brightly-colored arrows to indicate the proper lane for navigation.
Map View Options: You can choose from a 3D map view or two 2D map views (Track Up or North Up) as you navigate to your destination.
Speed Limits: As you travel along a major road or street, the speed limit is displayed on the screen alongside of the vehicle's speed display. If you are exceeding the speed limit, a tone will sound, and the color of the vehicle speed indication will change to red. If the highway's posted speed limit has changed since the last map update, you can change the speed limit display on the unit.
Where Am I?: The "Where Am I?" feature gives you instant access to important information in case of an emergency. When you touch the vehicle icon on the map screen, the "Where Am I?" feature provides the coordinates (including elevation) of your current position, plus the nearest address and intersections. There are also buttons to help you locate the nearest hospitals, police stations, gas stations, and roadside assistance. You can also save the location for future reference.
Up Ahead: As you travel along your route, the Up Ahead feature constantly indicates the location of nearby businesses, including gas, food, lodging, restrooms, parking, and banks and ATMs. The locations are shown as icons, some with brand logos, and when the icons are touched on the screen, details of the services are displayed, and you are given the opportunity to navigate to that address.
Destination Search: When the Where To? button is pressed, you can use the search tools to find your destination and plan your route. The search tools allow you to search for cities, addresses, intersections, or coordinates. The Search Bar lets you directly enter a category, brand name, address, or city name. The unit's memory stores the last 50 locations you have found so you can quickly find a previous destination.
Trip Planner: You can plan your next RV trip using the Trip Planner app on the device. After selecting your starting location, you can add destinations until you trip planning is complete. The unit can automatically optimize the order of the destinations in your trip to create a shorter, more efficient route. Each trip you plan can be saved in memory until you are ready to make the trip again.
Trip Data: A shortcut on the map screen leads you to the Trip Data page. At a glance, you can see your direction of travel, elevation, two trip odometers (A & B), your average speed, as well as your moving average speed, the total time spent stopped, and the time of sunset or sunrise. Digging deeper into the page, you can view your maximum speed, total moving time, total trip time, the coordinates of your current location, and the GPS accuracy (in feet).
Where I've Been/Trip Log: The Where I've Been application allows you to view your previous routes and places you have stopped on the map. In addition, the device keeps a Trip Log, which is a record of the path you have traveled. The Travel History setting must be enabled in order for the Where I've Been and Trip Log features to function.
TracBack®: The TracBack® feature records the most recent segment of your trip, and allows you to retrace your recent track, back to a previous location. You can also save your recent track as a trip, which you can navigate later using the trip planner.
GPS Simulator: When indoors, you can activate the built-in GPS simulator and practice using the unit. This turns off the GPS receiver so it's not searching for satellites, saving battery power.
Fusion-Link: The RV 890 contains the Fusion-Link Wireless Remote Control app that can control a compatible Fusion stereo. The app communicates with the stereo through a wireless connection -- either Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. When connected, the Fusion-Link app allows you to change the source, raise or lower the volume, create and control speaker zones, control media playback, set and select radio presets, and make sound adjustments. The app is compatible with the following Fusion radios: PS-A302B, PS-A302BOD, MS-BB100, MS-RA210, MS-RA70i, MS-RA70NSX, MS-RA770, MS-SRX400, and MS-WB670.
Service History: The Service History app lets you keep track of the date and odometer reading when service or maintenance is performed on your vehicle. The app lets you keep track of the following service categories: Air Filter Change, Brake Fluid Change, Brake Pads Change, Check Tire Pressure, Clutch Fluid Change, Engine Oil Change, Front Tire Change, Fuel Filter Change, Rear Tire Change, and Spark Plugs Change. You can add, rename, or delete service categories to customize your service list.
