About the Garmin Varia™ TL 300
The risk is real
The risk is real
The TL 300 increases light intensity when your're braking.
I'm a cyclist. A lucky cyclist who's never had a serious accident. But when I'm sharing the road with cars and trucks, I take precautions. Of course I always wear a helmet, and there's a blinking LED tail light attached to my bike's seatpost. But I don't think I've seen any products that have more opportunity to revolutionize bike safety than Garmin's new Varia lights.
They'll know you're there
The Varia TL 300 tail light does a lot more than just blink. The light communicates with your compatible Garmin Edge cycling computer, meaning it'll automatically brighten and change the light pattern when you slow down, so oncoming cars will have a heads up if you need to brake suddenly. From your Edge's touchscreen you'll be able to turn the lights on and off, and even indicate turns, with the turn signal shutting off automatically as your computer's GPS detects the end of the turn. The TL 300 emits a bright 24-lumen output and quickly recharges when your ride is over.

More details on the Garmin Varia™ TL 300
Varia Smart Bike Lights: The Varia line of cycling awareness products includes smart tail lights, smart head lights, and dedicated display units. This TL 300 smart tail light can help keep you safe by alerting vehicles approaching from behind your bike.
TL 300: The TL 300 rear tail light mounts high on the seat post on your bicycle using one of the supplied quarter-turn mounts. It has manual controls on the top which allow you to select from the following modes: High Intensity (22 lumens), Medium Intensity (14 lm), Low Intensity (7 lm), or Flashing (28 lm).
Garmin Edge Compatibility: The TL 300 is compatible with the Garmin Edge 1000 and Edge Explore 1000 GPS bike computers. The tail light can pair with the Edge device using ANT+ wireless technology. When paired, the Edge automatically turn on the tail light using motion detection. When you decelerate sharply, the Edge causes the TL 300 to change intensity and flash. If two TL 300 tail lights are used, you can use them as turn signals controlled by the Edge device.
Rechargeable Battery: The Varia TL 300 is powered by a built-in rechargeable Lithium-ion battery. The battery life is approximately 4 hours in constant illumination (high) mode and up to 14 hours in flash mode. The battery charges in approximately 2 hours via USB, using the included Micro USB cable.
Mounting: The TL 300 is equipped with two "quarter-turn" mounts, a multi-location mount and a seat post mount. These are the same type of mounts used by many of the Garmin Edge bicycle computers, and allow you to easily attach or remove the tail light.
Water Rating: The TL 300 has an IPX7 water rating, making it suitable for use in rain or snow. It can withstand incidental exposure to water, but is not suitable for immersion.
