Replacement speakers for your 2-ohm factory system

Some cars use low-impedance speakers to get a little more punch out of the factory radio. If you try to replace these speakers with standard 4-ohm aftermarket speakers, you'll notice a significant loss of volume — never a good thing — while 2-ohm replacement speakers have always been hard to find. Until now....

These specially designed PowerBass L Series 2-ohm speakers will make the most of your factory power. Install these L2-652 6-1/2" car speakers, and you'll hear a big improvement in sound quality over your old factory speakers. Plus, their shallow mounting depth ensures they're a fit in a wide variety of vehicles too.

Step up to aftermarket quality

Say goodbye to flimsy factory woofers and whizzer cones. Sturdy yet sensitive polypropylene/carbon fiber woofers and butyl rubber surrounds deliver satisfying performance while enduring the extreme temperatures of life in your car doors. The 3/4" aluminum alloy dome tweeters bring the high range to life with the crisp detail that's been missing from your factory sound. Those highs are enhanced with a Wave Guide Lens that directs highs toward your ears for better stereo imaging and soundstaging.

Note: PowerBass designed these speakers for use with a 2-ohm factory system. Call an advisor to confirm compatibility with your vehicle.

2006 Toyota Land Cruiser lower front door. Factory JBL's had finally crumbled (literally), and wanted 2-ohm, 6 1/2" speakers as replacements. The PB L2-652's use a very slightly different hole circle diameter from stock but this can be easily remedied by bending the lip of the PB speaker flat at the slotted holes to allow the factory screw heads to tighten down. The Metra wiring harness adapters make connection a snap but would recommend some means other than friction of holding the two plugs together. I used small plastic zip ties. Overall quite pleased with the replacement. Sound quality is good. Among all the speakers available there may well be better choices but I'm very satisfied.

These were purchased to replace the front door 2 Ohm speakers in my Mazda 3 Bose system that crapped out after 3 years. (the paper cones rust away from the metal cage causing distortion). The replacement was pretty straight forward thanks to the instructions PDF provided by Crutchfield: the speaker brackets and wiring were spot on. The sound is clear, but the bass is disappointing compared to the original Bose system...at least there is no distortion!

Meh. Dont sound any better than the factory "premium" sound system in my xterra. Wouldn't buy again. Also plenty of room in my door for other speakers. Dont know why Crutchfield says there are only a few options available.

An amazing upgrade to the factory paper cone speakers for not much money. Even with the stock head unit, the bass rattles the front door panels now at mid volume levels. Easy install with the supplied adapters.

Pros: Excellent bass response and better overall sound clarity.

Better than stock speakers. Our new Sentra speakers blew out fist week so we needed something that sounded good and wouldn't blow out easy. This seem to be the cure. We used a YouTube window tinting video to learn to remove the door panel for the Crutchfield instructions not all that good. "Remove from box, attach, install" aren't good instructions. So we called Crutchfield and they walked us through the fitting part. Where ya have to do some snipping on the Tabs not mentioned in the instructions.

Pros: Good Price, good sound, more durable than stock so far.

Cons: Need better installation instructions

Replacement speakers for 2005 prius

Crutchfield customer from Torrance, CA on 4/25/2019

2005 Toyota Prius

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Purchased four speakers and installed in each door of a JBL-equipped 2005 Prius. Pretty easy install. I didn't have to drill out the pop-rivets like some YouTube videos suggest. Just unscrew and peel apart the adhesive backed old speakers from the mounts, plug in the Crutchfield supplied connector adapter, and screw these Powerbass in. The speaker screw cutouts do not perfectly align but they are so close I just cranked down on the screws until the speaker was secure. Sound is better than expected in this old commuter car. Had to adjust the Prius EQ for more bass. Overall, very satisfied.

Pros: Inexpensive. Easy install. Crutchfield supplied everything I needed. No more blown buzzy speakers. Good sound.

Cons: Adjust sound for more bass. If you are an audiophile, spend more money on different speakers and/or consider adding a sub.

Replaced the factory 2 ohm speakers in a Nissan Rogue. Really tough to hear any difference at all with these speakers. While the Crutchfield directions and parts worked well for installation, save your money and buy better speakers and an amp or new head unit.

Perfect replacement for my blown factory speakers in my 2002 Land Cruiser for use with my factory audio system. I'm sure better speakers are available, but simple replacement was all I wanted. Instructions were straight forward. I had to drill new holes in factory bracket for the speakers to fit. The free wiring harness made the wiring simple for this novice to do.

The speakers sound great. They were exactly what I was looking for. I installed them on my 2008 Nissan Altima coupe with the navigation system. The bonus of getting free installation kit with the speakers is really what sold me on it. If it wasn't for those plastic harnesses that you screw the speaker into I wouldn't have been able to install these. However I noticed that it need just a little encouragement when installing. I used different screws because first, I couldn't find them but they were stuck to the bottom of the magnet on one of the speakers surrounded by a bunch of plastic. I used bolts to secure them to the plastic harness. Regardless they stayed and seem great. I only wish they came with some sort of foam to put at the contact points of the speakers when they attach to the door, in case it ever rattles against the door. Overall, I am more than satisfied. Sound quality is great. No trouble at all.

Good for what they're intended for ...

Richard from Sandown, NH on 8/20/2018

2018 Toyota Tacoma

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I ordered these speakers following a recommendation from a Crutchfield Advisor. They're good for what they are, 2 ohm speakers that are intended as an upgrade to crappy factory speakers with a factory system that is designed for 2 ohm speakers without losing significant volume capacity by replacing the factory speakers with 4 ohm speakers. The PowerBass speakers did provide a significant overall improvement that most listeners would be thrilled with. However, for my situation - improving the quality of sound in a 2018 Tacoma with the JBL 2 ohm audio system (with stock speakers that JBL should have be ashamed of), the PowerBass speakers fell short of my expectations. Through hours of research on my own, I found that I could do much better by installing JBL Stadium GTO960C speakers in the front, and JBL GTO620 speakers in the rear. The JBLs are 2.5 ohm speakers, which means the loss in volume was acceptably low. Also, for those considering to replace the factory speakers in a 2016+ Tacoma with the JBL system, be aware that the frequencies sent to the front door speakers are filtered and usable by only a woofer. If you attach the crossovers that come with either the PowerBass or JBL speakers to the factory speaker connector, and then connect a tweeter to the crossover, the tweeter won't work. You need to either replace the vehicle stock tweeters or run new wires from the stock tweeters to the location where you intend to mount the new tweeters; I chose the latter.

Pros: Significant improvement over factory 2 ohm speakers

I was a little apprehensive getting these speakers just by looking at them. They look cheap... They were no better than the cheap dual cone paper speakers that came with my car. Side note: The Infinity 62.11i speakers are phenomenal! They fit perfectly even though their site and tech support says they won't fit. The bass is insane and the highs are screaming! They are 2 ohms just like the stock speakers so you won't lose any power to the speakers. Get these and you won't be disappointed.

Pros: they fit fine

Cons: They sound terrible. No better than my cheap dual cone paper speakers.

These replace the OEM spks in my 2016 Nissan LEAF. They have much deeper bass, and much better mid and high end. They have much lower distortion throughout their range, and the image is wide and detailed. They are 2 Ohm which is what the OEM ones were. Love em.

Marked improvement over my factory speakers. Sound is much smoother and bass is deeper and richer. The speakers handle very well when my favorite songs are on and I want to crank the volume. Cons: Install took longer than expected but once I figured out the mounting bracket needed mods it was smooth sailing.

I bought this particular speaker because of the 2 ohm rating. I did not want to loose volume powering them with a factory radio. They are clean at low volumes with factory deck but terrible distortion at high volume. Also, I had to turn the bass down because of terrible sound quality. Overall, much worse than the factory speakers and I ended up returning them. However, Crutchfield took care of me! I exchanged these for Kickers. In fact, the replacement speakers were cheaper so they are going to refund the difference when the receive the returned speakers. Super impressed and I look forward to being your customer again.

Clean, crisp sound and surprisingly, bass response similar to BOSE speaker. It might be slightly quieter, but likely not as efficient as paper woofer it replaced. I also replaced rear speakers in this car (Mazda CX-3) with different brand and same outcome. The BOSE system does have sub inside spare tire which definitely helps bottom end. Might add aftermarket sub to get some more thump, but not sure yet.

Bought these to upgrade the factory speakers in my 2017 Rogue. Very disappointed. Actually feels like I downgraded. How is it that the factory speakers have more bass response than these? On the plus side, the Crutchfield provided instructions, wiring and bracket adapters made install easier. Contrary to the instructions, there was no need to drill. Although I did cut a notch in the bracket so that the wires won't get pinched. Also provided screws were 1/8th to long. For some reason, my device won't access my photos, oh well.

Definitely a huge upgrade from the factory speakers. Install was a breeze. I have a 2016 nissan rogue. Definitely nice to have an upgraded 2 ohm speaker option! Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I'm quite satisfied with these little speakers. I didn't want to replace my entire stock system, but also couldn't stand the sound of the original speakers. These proved to be a good alternative, adding range to the spectrum while adding volume and a little bass. Having the 2ohm option was the only way to go without having to add amps or replacing the entire system to upgrade the sound quality; had I done 4ohm speakers it would've required switching out the head unit (which interacts with the car) to handle the power loss or settle for underpowered speakers. 2016 Rogue

Pros: Sound good, easy to install, not too expensive.

Cons: Limited response as a 2ohm speaker vs 4ohm, but great alternative if not wanting to spend a ton of money for upgrade.

Q
Will these still work if the factory head unit is 4 ohm?

PowerBass designed these speakers specifically for use with a 2-ohm factory system. If your factory speakers are 4-ohm, they should be replaced with 4-ohm speakers as well. For more details or help in selecting new speakers for your car, please feel free to contact an Advisor directly by phone (888.955.6000) or online chat. Thanks!
