Elevate the performance of in-ceiling speakers

In-ceiling speakers are an excellent option for a stealthy music or home theater system. But much of the sound they produce can end up leaking into the room above. A good solution for this is the Dynamat DynaBox.

This flexible foam enclosure helps an in-ceiling speaker deliver focused, well-balanced sound in your listening space while reducing audio bleed-through to the adjacent room. You'll get more sound where you want it, and less noise and vibration where you don't.

How it works

The DynaBox is made of flexible vinyl that allows it to be collapsed for retrofit installation. You actually fold the enclosure and push it up through the hole you've cut in the ceiling for your speaker. Once the box is in place, line it with the two supplied sound absorbers: the SoundSnake acoustic decoupler, and Back-wave foam panel.

Of course, the DynaBox works great for new construction, too. Click on the "Details" tab for step-by-step installation instructions.

Installation Instructions: DynaBox features a flexible design which enables it to be completely collapsed for easy retrofit installation. DynaBox can also be installed in new construction.

  • Step 1 (Prep Box): Ensure the ceiling hole is cut to fit your in-ceiling speaker installation requirements. See your speaker installation instructions for complete directions & template. Using a razor knife, cut the DynaBox hole to fit your in-ceiling speaker, as well. If running speaker wires inside the box, cut a small slit on the side of the box to run wires (speaker wires can be run inside or outside of the DynaBox).
  • Step 2 (Insert Box): Tightly roll box with the hole on the inside. Grip box tightly and place through the existing ceiling opening. Expand box and position over ceiling opening.
  • Step 3 (Insert SoundSnake): Tightly roll the SoundSnake with the wider foam side toward the inside of the roll. Grip tightly and place through the existing ceiling opening in to the DynaBox. Expand and adjust to line the inside walls of the box. The smaller foam side of the SoundSnake should be toward the outside of the box.
  • Step 4 (Insert back-wave Foam): Remote the white paper backing from the back-wave foam. Fold in half with sticky side out. Place through opening and apply the self adhesive (sticky) side to the top of the box.
  • Step 5 (Seal Box): Apply a bead of contractors glue or silicon caulking around the outside perimeter of the DynaBox hole.
  • Step 6 (Install Speaker): Follow the manufacturer's instructions for your in-ceiling speaker installation.

Customer Q&A

Q
Will this work with an 8" speaker?
basil  Oct 02, 2023
1 answer
A
This Dynamat Dynabox can fit a wide variety of speaker sizes, Basil. On install of your favorite in-ceiling speaker, you would first confirm the ceiling hole is cut to fit your in-ceiling speaker installation requirements. Most in-ceiling speakers will come with a cutout template so you can get this exactly correct. Using a razor knife, cut the DynaBox hole to fit your in-ceiling speaker diameter exactly before install. I hope this helps!

Q
Will DynaBox fit in a ceiling that has manufactured joists positioned at 12" centers?
dave  Dec 20, 2022

A
Greetings Dave, and thank you for your question. Can one get them in with 12 inch on center studs? They can, but the form of the rubber enclosure is going to be somewhat distorted (not true to form). They are by design to be installed with ease on 16 inch on center studs.
