When you take 4K OLED screen technology and combine it with Sony's acclaimed video processing, you get one of the finest TV pictures we'll see in 2018. In fact, the 65" XBR-65A8F delivers immersive picture and sound.
It offers a new look, too, replacing the "kickstand" design of last year's XBR-65A1E with a super low-profile pedestal stand. The new design also reduces panel depth by more than an inch, for less obtrusive wall-mounting.
4K provides four times the picture detail of 1080p HD, while HDR (High Dynamic Range) gives a major boost to contrast and color. It may surprise you, but current video standards are based on old-school tube TVs with low brightness capabilities. The latest HDR-equipped TVs, like the XBR-65A8F, can display greater contrast and a wider color spectrum. The combination makes pictures pop like you've never seen before.
Sony isn't the only company building OLED TVs, but it's the only one that employs the company's unmatched video processing. The X1™ Extreme engine is their most powerful processor ever. It tackles two tasks: reducing the compression noise common in streamed video and lower-resolution sources, and upscaling every source to near 4K/HDR quality. Picture quality with 4K streamed content and Ultra HD Blu-ray is spectacular, but you don't need a 4K source to be wowed by this TV.
The X1 Extreme processor also detects if there is a static image on screen and performs a pixel shift to avoid burn-in or image retention.
Instead of using typical tiny speakers, the XBR-65A8F uses the entire screen to generate sound. Sony's Acoustic Surface™ technology uses a pair of actuators on the back to send vibrations through the screen to produce sound. Sounds are localized to what's happening on screen, creating an even more immersive experience. A total of 50 watts of power drives the screen speaker system as well as the rear-mounted woofer.
The XBR-65A8F's built-in Android operating system lets you easily log in to your Google ID to access a huge collection of apps, games and content from Google Play. Use the Chromecast Built-in feature to stream movies, pictures, and TV shows from your iOS or Android-based phone, or from a laptop.
The included remote control lets you activate the built-in Google Assistant simply by pressing the mic button and speaking into the microphone. Use it to adjust the volume, change channels or inputs, and control other basic TV functions. Search for a particular movie or actor just by saying the name. Google Assistant can also answer everyday questions and control connected smart home devices. The XBR-65A8F is also compatible with Amazon Alexa voice control assistants.

Average Customer Review(s):
great picture and easy to set up.
During our first week with the new Sony OLED, we find the picture quality to be excellent. There are many features and options yet to explore and can't imagine any more needed. Our plans are to transition from an existing surround sound system to a soundbar. If the TV is not mounted on a wall, know that there is minimal bottom clearance when using a stand on a table top. In other words, plan on doing a TV wall mount or relocating the soundbar so that it does not obstruct the view of the TV screen. When comparing the LG C8 to the Sony A8, we decided on the Sony due to the reported stronger processor. Otherwise, they seem very similar.
Wow! Been a long time Sony customer and this TV is absolutely gorgeous and stunning. Absolutely love it.
Pros: Easy Set up. Great Picture and sound.
Cons: HDMI for 4K only on HDMI 2 & 4. Should be on all on HDMI inputs.
Its a great tv. Set up with a phone that uses Google very easy! Sound from the glass and small sub in the back are very good for everyday programs. I have a surround system already so movies are awesome. I cannot say enough about the picture. Pure quality. Running with Dish hopper 3 and it upscales very good. 4K movies phenomenal! I purchased the Sony ES 1000x ultra High Def player with it. A+. Smart features are simple and work. Amazon prime loads 4K movies with our crappy 3mbs century link. TV plays them fine. Some stutters with the download speed we have. We live in a fairly remote location. Worried about the shipping. It was pretty banged up when it arrived at the house from freight trucks...unpacked and checked all ok.
Pros: Very easy set-up quality construction Perfect picture Easy mounting
Cons: Dish remote doesn't work with the Sony tv. Pain to use both remotes. Sony wants you to set up a IR blaster to use their remote to control Hopper. I would rather the other way around.
Wow! As advertised and then some! First of all the Crutchfield Rep Charles was very helpful for all my questions and shipping concerns. I live in Hawaii and the shipping was perfect! After reading many reviews and ratings I was still a little nervous about the overall picture. Once I set thing up and synced the cable the picture was overwhelmingly saturated and a taste dark for me, (my replacement set was a Sony LCD 55' and I had it calibrated seven years ago, and had a great picture). I found the TV menu, found picture adjustments, after a few minutes of trying different modes I found that the "Cinema Home" mode suited my likings but a little bright, adjusted the brightness to 42 and that picture is beautiful! The sound is very clear and voices are also very clear and I'm still deciding if I want to hook up my Stereo rig via the headphone jack to a Marantz system with my long coveted JBL L112s which has great lows and crystal clear. Anyway I'm enjoying the extra ten inch screen and the versatility of this set.
Pros: picture, wireless setup, controls, sound, and remote, its a Sony!
Crutchfield team has been great from start to finish. They assisted in answering all my questions and pros and cons of each different style televisions. The moment I placed my order I was up to date on where we were with the process until it was delivered to my home. This television is amazing. Very easy to use, the picture and sound quality is amazing. The apps are all easy to use and setup. I will update in the coming months.
Great picture and great colors
Pros: Great tv and good sound
Bought the TV for my vacation house and the TV didn't show up until the night before I left so I'm unable to give a review.
Breathtaking Picture quality! I am a photographer who is totally into high resolution. This Sony delivers the goods in spades! As others have stated, the colors are rendered beautifully, the blacks are deep, never washed out. Cable at 1080 is upscaled well, and motion is smooth on even the fastest movements. Of course the 4k UHD content is where the set excells. The details in the image are incredible, the images appear almost 3D like, the processor handles all that info flawlessly. I read a ton of reviews before purchasing this set. One of the more common complaints was on the Android software being sluggish and a poorly designed UI. I come from Apple OS which is always top notch and really, the Android UI is not bad. I have an AppleTV 4th gen but not the 4k version and I was thinking of buying the 4k unit for this tv, but now I am not so sure I will as, like I said, the Android setup is pretty good and gets the job done. Probably my only complaint is the remote. Not backlit, nothing special about it. You'd think Sony would have stepped it up on their flagship tv. In conclusion I would highly recommend this OLED if you treasure exquisite imaging from your tv. It is beautifully designed as a minimalist piece, no logos to interfere with the image. Sure, it costs more then a lcd set, but if you figure the difference over the years you'll be enjoying this set it really amounts to very little. And Crutchfield is by far and away the best place to buy from.
Pros: Awesome picture, beautiful set!
Cons: Remote doesn't live up to everything else about this tv!
Awesome product! Lives up to the hype!
Pros: Picture, sound
Pretty incredible. Replaced a 10 yr old Samsung LCD so it's a major jump forward. One of my concerns prior to purchase was if it would be bright enough in my sunlit living room. It's plenty bright enough and there's no apparent reason anyone should be concerned about that. Now black levels on the other hand, they're freaking amazing! I'm extremely happy with the TV and am consistently blown away any time I pop in or stream a new movie. Also does a great job at upscaling my crap 1080i cable signal.
Cons: Slow menu
So far so good. I've only had it up for three days. Nice picture easy install. I Love Crutchfield!
Wow. What an unbelievable TV set! True black and high contrast mean a lot to me. This TV does it better than any other I've seen. OLED seems to be the "next big thing" that is a leap change in picture quality. Of all the new tech, I think this single feature is what made me make the leap from a 2010 Sony 55" HDTV. Sony does some great video processing with this one too. SD or HD signals have excellent motion scanning and almost no pixelating. This TV was by far the best I've seen. Some room for improvement: to take full advantage of the newest 4K ultra features like HDR and Dolby Vision: you need to dig around in the settings to "enable" the HDMI port on the TV to allow these enhancements. You also need to make sure to have the latest HDMI cables, a newer receiver (if you do external audio processsing) and equipment capable of delivering this enhanced content (like AppleTV 4K). And THEN you need to enable those devices to deliver the enhanced content (which there isn't a whole lot of ... yet) Bottom line: This TV was a great investment with future proof features and by far the best picture quality (black levels that are true black, min pixelating, and superior motion control). Crutchfield makes it easy to own and can guide you through the right setup to take advantage of all the next gen features!
Pros: Picture, features, black level, motion, upscaling of older signals, beautiful tv design
Cons: A little complicated to "enable" the newest features.
The clearest picture of ny TV I have seen. Even my wife who was opposed to buying it said "watching football you feel like you are actually at the game". Also extremely easy to setup!
I love the picture.... SONY OLED picture quality is fantastic. The sound is OK but think I will be adding a SONOS Playbase sound system to improve Audio. My room is very large so Audio from the TV is just not robust enough for this room.
What can you say except the picture is awesome. I'm looking forward to more 4K content becoming available but this TV upgrades the 1080 content to a superior picture too. I run sound through my Marantz receiver with surround sound speakers so I don't take advantage of the sound the TV provides. I have it wall mounted using a Sanus Full Motion Mount Model # VLF628-B1 which allows movement in all directions for optimal positioning of the TV, highly recommended. The remote control could be better designed but I didn't buy the TV for the remote. This was my first experience with Crutchfield and they were excellent.
This SONY OLED Television provides magnificent picture and sound from all viewing angles. The remote should be illuminated at this price point. Installing LED lighting on the back enhances the overall video presentation. Two person installation recommended. A pair of gloves prevents screen degradation when mounting onto stand. You Tube provides many out of the box set up instructions. One has calibration recommendations. Another source for fine tuning the picture is available through the AVS Forum. Print settings and adjust accordingly. Crutchfield delivery through UPS was flawless. Box was in mint condition. Hogan is my advisor at Crutchfield and he is one of the reasons why this retailer is Best in Class. The sixty day trial period is unique and provides ample time to feel comfortable with a such a considerable investment. The price protection policy is another reassuring factor. Crutchfield and SONY are excellent partners. Solid performance, expert advice, honest pricing and a very generous return policy( which may not be a concern with this unit).
Pros: Picture Price Advice Sixty Day Trial
Cons: Remote leaves you in the dark. Should be illuminated.
I ended up returning this smart TV. It was not as smart as I expected. It does not have access to the Spectrum TV app and therefore, I was not going to be able to watch TV for free using that app. Other than that, it is a great TV. I am still in disbelief that Sony does not have apps available for ALL the major cable providers in the US. So I returned the TV and got a Samsung, which has the Spectrum TV app. All is now good.
The picture is outstnding an no need for a sound bar I'm 78 an need all the help we can get and Sony was there for us and we were up and running in no time. This the best TV we have ever own and pair this Tv witha new Sony Ultra HD Blu-ray DVD Player All we can say is WOW
Pros: Its so easy to set up Sony is there for you all the way.
Excellent picture, well packaged for easy removal and hookup. Setup was quick and flawless.
Pros: Picture fabulous!!
Cons: None so far.
We have only had it for a week now, but I can say that this TV is awesome. Of course, 4K HDR is jaw dropping, but I am equally impressed by how it upscales a 1080p picture. Most of what we see is actually 1080p, and it is amazing. The sound is also good, but we do use our surround sound system much of the time. Yes, it is expensive, but I don't regret it. Looking forward to seeing more 4K material.
Pros: Great picture, even with 1080p material Good sound
Cons: None so far
This TV is great. The picture is awesome, and was well worth the money.
This TV, the Sony XBR-65A8F, has the most beautiful picture, crisp and beautiful. So glad I took the plunge!
Pros: Awesome picture, fabulous sound, simple and quick setup.
Cons: None, really.
Picture is spectacular but so is the price.
Pros: gorgeous picture and prefer to buy a sony product vs samsung who is well know for stealing other company's technology
Outstanding OLED picture quality from great black and contrast levels. TV sound is very good, but of course separate sound system will add to it. I had a few questions when setting up and Sony customer support was very helpful.
Really nice picture and great blacks. Some important keys on the remote are on the small size for larger hands. Like some many manuals, it is very incomplete and not worth the paper it is written on. Setup does not provide enough information on what you are agreeing too or what they are, so it is safer to skip them all in these days of privacy thief.
Pros: Great picture
Cons: Extras are poorly or not explained. Keys on the remote are too small. High price.
This is simply the best TV picture I have ever seen. Crutchfield customer service was A+ too.

OLED Technology: This TV screen has millions of self-illuminating OLED pixels that can be individually activated to reproduce truly lifelike pictures. With over 8 million self-illuminating, individually controlled OLED pixels, you'll see real black, incredible contrast, and lifelike color. These OLED pixels work individually and can be turned off completely to deliver absolute black. Each pixel can go from off to bright in a fraction of a second. Because each pixel lights up independently, you'll see more accurate detail, color, and shades in every scene. This level of supreme contrast reveals detail, depth, textures, and colors for a view that's stunningly real. See video images that are bright and clear from any angle. Even in fast-moving scenes there's no blur; you'll see everything in perfect clarity.
4K HDR: For the ultimate in picture quality, this TV pairs the brilliance of 4K clarity with the brightness, color, and detail of High Dynamic Range (HDR). Combined with 4K Ultra HD resolution, HDR video content delivers exceptional detail, color and contrast, with a far wider range of brightness than other video formats. The result is the most lifelike picture TVs have ever been able to create, with brilliant highlights and fine detail.
Note: Please use a premium high speed HDMI cable with 18 Gbps and above to view HDR content.
4K HDR Processor X1 Extreme: Sony's 4K HDR Processor X1 Extreme includes powerful real-time image processing for ultra detailed picture. Made to enhance the latest generation of 4K HDR pictures, the 4K HDR Processor X1 Extreme brings reality to every scene. With 40% more real-time image processing than our renowned 4K Processor X1, it delivers unprecedented picture quality for everything you watch, upscaling content from any source nearer to 4K. The 4K HDR Processor X1 Extreme uses Super Bit Mapping 4K HDR technology, Precision Color Mapping, Object-based HDR Remaster, and Dynamic Contrast Enhancer to produce pure colors at higher brightness levels for truly natural pictures.
Note: Sony's OLED TVs are designed to prevent image burn-in. The TV's 4K HDR Processor X1 Extreme detects if there is a static image on screen and shifts the pixel to avoid burn-in or image retention.
4K X-Reality Pro Upscaler w/ Dual Database Processing: Sony's 4K X-Reality Pro Upscaler w/ Dual Database Processing enhances Ultra-HD, HD, and SD images by analyzing and refining images with beautifully natural detail and clarity. One database is used to clean the picture, reducing on-screen noise. The other is used to upscale the resolution, improving clarity. These two powerful image improvement databases work together, dynamically improving pixels in real time. Each database has tens of thousands of references, amassed from our experience creating content for TV and movies over the years. With 4K X-Reality PRO and Dual Database Processing, every image is upscaled closer to true 4K quality for remarkable clarity. This 4K television upscales your favorite TV shows, DVD and Blu-ray movies, even video-on-demand content, and smartphone videos to Ultra-HD.
TRILUMINOS Display: Unique to Sony, a TRILUMINOS Display with its specially developed backlight selectively maps colors across a wider gamut, ensuring subtle colors do not become oversaturated and unnatural. You'll enjoy vivid, authentic images that evoke the emotion in every scene. TRILUMINOS Display uses a wider color spectrum than a conventional flat-panel TV display. A TRILUMINOS Display excels at reproducing reds, greens, and blues; colors that are notoriously difficult for TVs to display accurately. It also displays skin tones beautifully, thanks to its extensive color palette and precise gradation.
Motionflow XR: Sony's Motionflow XR refresh rate technology enhances the OLED TV's unique panel speed to allow fast moving action sequences in sports and movies to be seen with lifelike clarity. Enjoy smooth and sharp details even in fast-moving sequences with Motionflow XR. This innovative technology creates and inserts extra frames between the original ones. It compares key visual factors on successive frames, then calculates the split second of missing action in the sequences
Video Inputs: The Sony OLED TV is equipped with HDMI 2.0b and 3.5mm video inputs.
Note: The TV has built-in over-the-air HDTV (ATSC) and Clear QAM tuners with an RF-coaxial input, so you don't need a separate set-top box to receive and decode over-the-air HDTV/SDTV or unencrypted Digital Cable signals.
IMAX Enhanced Technology (via Firmware Update): Get the most premium at-home entertainment experience with IMAX Enhanced; the latest technology program from IMAX that sets a new standard for image, sound, scale and content quality. This new certification and licensing program combines IMAX digitally re-mastered 4K HDR content and DTS audio technologies to offer a new level of quality in immersive sight and sound experiences in the home. IMAX Enhanced lets you experience premium content digitally remastered by IMAX, so you can watch the highest-quality 4K movies with immersive audio delivered by DTS. Not only will IMAX Enhanced content look and sound amazing, but other audio/video content will also look and sound great too.
- To take full advantage of IMAX Enhanced, you need an IMAX Enhanced certified 4K/HDR TV (65"-up) or Projector and an IMAX Enhanced certified DTS:X enabled AV receiver or soundbar.
- IMAX and DTS developed the IMAX Enhanced program out of their decades of combined expertise in image and sound science to make it easier for consumers to select the products and content that will deliver the highest-quality, sharpest 4K HDR images and powerful, immersive sound at home.
- To qualify and carry the IMAX Enhanced logo, the highest-end TVs, AV receivers, projectors, sound bars, and must meet stringent performance standards established by IMAX, DTS and Hollywood's leading colorists in order to create a consistent and higher bar for image and sound performance on premium devices.
Picture Adjustments: The TV offers a variety of screen, picture, and video adjustments to maximize image quality.
Light Sensor & Advanced Contrast Enhancer (ACE): The TV's built-in Light Sensor automatically adjusts the picture brightness based on the amount of light in the room. As a result, you can enjoy automatic customized picture brightness and save energy without lifting a finger. The televisions Advance Contrast Enhancer (ACE) automatically adjusts backlight and contrast to the most suitable setting judging from the brightness of the screen. This setting is especially effective for dark scenes, and will increase the contrast distinction for the darker picture scenes.
Live Color Technology: Powered by an image processor using an algorithm specially developed by Sony, Live Color is able to reproduce incredibly vivid colors on screen. With four user-adjustable settings available (High/Medium/Low/Off), you can choose just how vivid you want your images to be. Whether it's a brilliant blue sky or a bright red rose, everything stands out so much more with Live Color.
24pTrue Cinema (24p Input Capability): Many movies are filmed at 24 frames per second (fps) and prime time TV programs are video taped at 24p. Seizing on an opportunity, some studios are taking a purist approach and encoding high definition video content such as Blu-ray Disc in 24p. Sony wisely takes advantage of this by including 24p input capability via HDMI on this television producing images that are smooth and natural looking.
Acoustic Surface Technology: Taking advantage of the OLED's backlight-less structure, Sony developed new Acoustic Surface sound technology. The Acoustic Surface technology lends to the cutting-edge design of Sony's OLED TV by doing away with conventional speakers usually located around the TV. Unlike most TV speakers that fire downward, sound comes to you from the entire screen, immersing you in exciting new entertainment experiences. Two actuators behind the TV vibrate the screen to create sound that's truly engaging. Thanks to this ingenious design, the entire screen resonates with rich sound emanating directly from the screen itself; there are also two rear-firing subwoofers positioned on the back-panel. This allows a perfect unification of picture and sound unattainable by conventional TVs. It produces a wide sound and image synchronization from all angles, even off to the sides. Together with OLED's exceptionally wide viewing angle, the TV offers unmatched visual and aural experience regardless of viewing position.
Note: The speakers of this TV provide different sound images according to how you position the television. You can select between "Table-Top Stand" or "Wall Mount" to provide the best sound quality based on the television's placement.
Sony Sound Technologies: The OLED TV utilizes a variety of proprietary Sony technologies to enhance and optimize sound quality.
Other Audio Settings: The Sony OLED TV also features several audio settings to help tailor the sound to your preference, application, and source.
ARC (Audio Return Channel): The Audio Return Channel within the television's HDMI 3 input enables the TV, via a single HDMI cable, to send audio data "upstream" to an A/V receiver; increasing user flexibility and eliminating the need for any separate S/PDIF audio connection. This feature allows audio to be sent from the television to your A/V receiver through the same HDMI cable already being used to send audio/video to the television. This eliminates the need for extra cables connected to the TV. ARC allows audio from the TV tuner, Network connection, inserted USB device, HDMI inputs, or any analog connected device to be heard through your ARC compatible AV receiver via the television's HDMI ARC input.
Note: Both the television and the receiver must support ARC for this function to work properly. When connecting an AV receiver that is compatible with Audio Return Channel (ARC), connect it to the TV's HDMI 3 input. If connecting a system that is incompatible Audio Return Channel (ARC), an additional audio connection via Digital Audio Out (Optical) is necessary.
Audio Outputs: The Sony OLED TV offers analog and digital audio outputs, as well as Bluetooth A2DP.
Note: You can setup the TV to output sound from the TV speakers, the headphone output, and Bluetooth at the same time (this does not include the optical digital output or when the analog output is not set to headphone). Or, you can setup the TV to only output audio from a single output terminal.
Wired or Wireless Network Connection: The Sony OLED TV supports a wired or wireless network connection. Via the TV's network connection you gain access to Android TV and Google Play, as well as content stored on your network computer. You also get the ability to stream content from your Android or Apple iOS mobile device to the TV. In addition, the TV supports WiFi Direct for wireless connectivity between WiFi enabled devices without a router.
Note: Sony recommends a home network connection speed of at least 2.5 Mbps recommended for standard definition, 10 Mbps for high definition, and 20 Mbps for ultra-high definition.
Android TV w/ Google Play: The Sony OLED TV is equipped with Android's Nougat (7.0) operating system and incorporates Android TV with access to a wide variety of apps from Google Play which have been optimized for playback on the big screen. Android TV gives you access to movie, music, sports, and other entertainment apps (subscription, rental, or purchase fees may apply). Click here to discover the full collection of Android TV Apps from Google Play. Not all Google Play apps will be Android TV compatible. More applications and streaming services will be available in the future. Popular apps include -
- 4K & 4K HDR network streaming requires a network speed of 20Mbps or greater. A wired Ethernet connection is recommended over a wireless WiFi connection for better performance. If you desire a WiFi connection, then use a dual-band Gigabit wireless-N router (or better) for 4K streaming.
- Make sure the Sony television has the latest software/firmware updates installed.
Mobile Device Streaming: The Sony OLED TV allows you to wirelessly stream content from a compatible mobile device using ChromeCast Built-in for playback on the big screen. You can also "mirror" your compatible mobile device using Miracast. You can setup the TV to automatically turn on when you begin "casting" or "mirroring" content from a compatible mobile device.
Vewd Web Browser: You can download and install the Vewd Web Browser to access select web content through the Sony TV. The web browser also allows you to enter URLs and do basic keyword searches, so you can browse select websites (text-based only). The Vewd Web Browser is not a full search engine for the Internet and Web. For Internet audio/video/photo content, use the Android TV apps. Some web-pages may not be supported and too large for download. The browsing experience may not be the same as it is on your computer. Remote w/ Built-in Mic: The remote offers soft push-button control and features a built-in mic for voice recognition. The built-in microphone provides voice control of select Android TV functions through the built-in Google Assistant. The remote even has dedicated Google Play & Netflix buttons, so you can access your Netflix movies and TV shows quicker.
Note: The remote's microphone and voice control function operate via Bluetooth, while all other remote functions are done through IR.
Digital Voice Assistant Control: The Sony UHD TV will support voice control of select functions through the built-in Google Assistant & optional Amazon Alexa enabled devices via a wireless network connection.
Remote Apps: The Sony OLED TV offers remote control capability through your Android or Apple iOS device via the Android TV Remote App (for Android only) or Sony's Video & TV SideView Remote App (for Android & Apple iOS). Apple iPad users can even use the Spotlight by Samba TV app with the Sony UHD TV to get content recommendations.
Bravia Sync: This TV is equipped with Bravia Sync, an HDMI Control function that allows communication between Sony TVs and other Sony equipment when they are connected via HDMI. Bravia Sync helps you connect compatible Sony Bravia HDMI equipment, such as a Blu-ray player or AV amplifier, to the TV and control the external equipment using the television's remote control. With the "Control for HDMI" function, Bravia Sync helps to communicate with Bravia Sync-compatible equipment using HDMI CEC (Consumer Electronics Control). Bravia Sync-compatible equipment is listed as a new input source in the television's menu. The television offers the following Bravia Sync operations for the listed device.
Note: Control for HDMI (Bravia Sync) is only available for the connected Sony equipment that has the Bravia Sync logo.
Optional Harmony Hub: Enjoy home automation control directly from the Sony Android TV, via the Logitech Harmony Hub (596HMNYHUB, sold separately). Everything from lights (including Phillips Hue), thermostats (including Nest) and security cameras, to other home entertainment systems can now be controlled at the push of a button on the Sony TV's remote control. This feature requires all compatible devices be connected to the same WiFi wireless network.
PlayStation DualShock 4 Controller (sold separately): If you have a Sony PlayStation 4, your DualShock 4 controller can become the TV's remote by downloading the BRAVIA TV Player app on your PlayStation 4 through the PlayStation Store. You'll also be able to control your PlayStation 4's on-screen user interface with the TV's remote.
Keyboard/Mouse Compatible: You can connect a USB- or Bluetooth-enabled keyboard and mouse (both sold separately) to the television for easier web browsing. You can move the cursor with the mouse and enter text with a compatible keyboard. Not all web-based apps support keyboard/mouse control.
Serial Port: You can connect the 3.5mm serial port to an external control device (such as a computer or A/V control system) to control the TV's functions externally.
Content Search: The TV offers unique ways to search and access your favorite and new content from the TV's tuner and Android TV apps.
Action Menu: By pressing the "Action Menu" button on the remote, a menu appears and provides quick access to the functions that are available for the currently displayed screen, such as picture adjustment, sound adjustment, volume adjustment for the connected device (such as headphones), and display/audio change. The items in the menu differ depending on the selected screen.
Samba Interactive TV: Samba Interactive TV enhances the Sony TV by enabling new features like interest-based advertisements, program notifications, and behind the scenes information about your favorite shows and actors. Similar to apps like the Spotlight App (for Apple iOS), Samba Interactive TV synchronizes your experience on your tablet with what you are watching on the TV, and unlocks exclusive content and features.
Notes: You can choose to "Enable" or "Disable" the Samba Interactive TV feature during the television's initial setup. Samba TV will clear your current viewing profile and prepare a new profile if you reset your advertising profile or do a TV factory reset in the television's system menu.
Netflix Recommended: This Sony OLED TV is a Netflix Recommended TV. This is due to the fact that it offers a unique feature set which makes Netflix even easier to use and enjoy. The Sony TV has an Instant On feature so the TV wakes and apps are ready to use right away. Compared this to the C8 LG, and looking at them side by side, the Sony looked better to me. Long time fan of Sony (LG as well). Don't think you can go wrong with either. [ Dane Jan 19, 2019 ]
Best price and Crutchfield's reputation. [ Mark Jan 16, 2019 ]
I have purchased 4 Sony TV's over the last 30 years and I have never had a problem with any of them. They still work to this day, I bought this new TV only because I wanted a 65" 4k Ultra TV. I am replacing my 50" Sony Bravia that I use everyday that I bought about 12 years ago with this new one. [ Dennis R. Dec 12, 2018 ]
Saw it at an electronics store and was amazed by the picture quality and colors. [ MICHAEL F Nov 29, 2018 ]
with good advice from crutchfield I made a great decision at a great price [ N Nov 21, 2018 ]
sony,no problem!! [ ulysses Nov 21, 2018 ]
I main reason I picked this Sony OLED TV over the LG OLED because of the built-in speakers that make the whole screen effectively be a speaker. I preferred this over a sound bar. I hope it sounds good when it arrives. [ Michael Nov 11, 2018 ]
Cuz it's tight [ William Oct 06, 2018 ]
Hogan was very instrumental in providing outstanding advice and support. He is one of the reasons why CRUTCHFIELD is BEST in CLASS! [ Daniel Sep 30, 2018 ]
I did a lot of research and I wanted the best TV available. Like that it has all the key features and like that the screen itself is the speakers, and 50watts at that. Video from Crutchfields noted that the speakers are about the best you can find on LED or OLED tv. I plan to put in a bedroom and not hook up a sound bar so i need a good sounding TV. [ ROBERT F Sep 08, 2018 ]
Already have one. Love it. This is for second room. [ S Aug 11, 2018 ]
I have been looking at OLED sets for some time and we always buy Sony TV's. I have purchased from Crutchfield before and found it to be smooth. I had to return a product once and customer service was excellent. [ John Jun 03, 2018 ]
best TV made and the right size [ Alan May 11, 2018 ]
Looks like you just did it for me. Thanks! I hadn't tried all four yet. [ Sean Nov 18, 2018 ]
There is nothing to correct as I never provided an overview on HDMI since it is beyond my expertise. As for the Sony OLED it provides a wonderful picture to view. I suspect what band differences you'll find will depend on the program source - i.e. blue ray dvd, cable tv, internet streaming. [ David Nov 18, 2018 ]
This set has two dedicated HDMI ports for 4K and other applications. That being said, I am not familiar with this Audioquest cable. The company has outstanding products and I am a customer. I am using one of their older optical cables connected to a Yamaha AV receiver and it works well with this SONY OLED television. [ Daniel Oct 13, 2018 ]
So long as your HDMI cable is rated for HDR, you're fine. Besides, optical cables don't have the bandwidth to handle some of the latest surround sound variants. [ DAVID A Oct 12, 2018 ]
No, an HDMI cable provides both video and audio. [ Brian Oct 12, 2018 ]
I was able to use just the HDMI cable to get video and audio from my Apple TV box. Hope that helps. [ Sean Oct 12, 2018 ]
Marbles, You didn't mention what video source you were connecting to. Be it a cable box, Apple TV or blue ray player the HDMI cinnamon cable should do fine and probably preferable to the optical cable. [ David Oct 12, 2018 ]
NO the picture is out standing rent a 4k movie your be blow away [ PAUL Oct 12, 2018 ]
You are better of using the HDMI 2 cable. I have seen various reviews and the HDMI 2 cable carries a better audio signal than the optical cable. [ Thomas Oct 12, 2018 ]
OLED displays specifically have exceptional pixel response times and provide excellent motion clarity for things like fast action movies and sporting events. [ Ryan Jul 14, 2018 ] Staff
One thing I will say about my XBR-658AF is that I was very impressed with its sound, even before I started using my Bose 650 Lifestyle Entertainment System for its audio. To me, it sounded very clear, no distortion at louder or softer volumes, and decent bass in general. To me, it also never sounded brassy or tinny, either, making it very enjoyable. If you really don't want the clutter of a soundbar or a whole av setup with lots of speakers and the like, as l have, you shouldn't worry about it. Just skip it all and enjoy the simplicity of and quality of this marvelous TV. Hope this helps. [ Hugh L. Jun 22, 2018 ]
I really like my Sony XBR-658AF a lot, but for me it's all about the picture. I have a TiVo Bolt, an Apple TV 4K, and a 4K Sony Blu-Ray player all connected to my Bose Lifestyle 650 home entertainment system. The Bose sends all the audio and video signals from the other components to the TV through a single HDMI cable. I don't even use the TV's smart tv features, since I do all my streaming through the streaming apps on the Apple TV and the TiVo, and all the audio comes through the Bose. I don't even have an Android phone, just an iPhone. To me, the Android-related features of the TV are not an impediment to my enjoyment of the TV's gorgeous picture. If they're not important to you, I'd say go for it. Hope this helps. [ Hugh L. Jun 22, 2018 ]
Honestly this TV is so good whether you like the android interface or not shouldn't stand in your way. I'm not a huge fan of all the interconnection that exists in almost everything we do nowadays but that's the world around us. You will love it - go get it. [ Richard Jun 20, 2018 ]
