About the Sony FE PZ 16-35mm f/4 G
Wide range of perspectives
Wide range of perspectives

The compact, lightweight zoom lens excels in a wide range of shooting situations.
This high-performance 16-35mm wide-angle zoom lens is a worthy complement to Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras. At its widest, it can deliver expansive landscapes and architecture shots. Or you can open the aperture and zoom in to get as close as 9-1/2 inches from your subject for beautiful close-ups with spacious backgrounds that recede into infinity.
And thanks to its constant f/stop, you can move effortlessly between shooting neighborhood street tableaus or zooming in for intimate portraits.
Great photos and video indoors or out
This lens's generous f/4 maximum aperture makes it well-suited for indoor shooting, particularly in cramped quarters, thanks to its lightweight, compact design. And since the aperture remains constant throughout its zoom range, you can move effortlessly between shooting neighborhood street tableaus or zooming in for intimate portraits, without having to adjust your exposure settings.
Its rugged construction lends itself to outdoor photography in just about any conditions. If you're out shooting on the beach and the wind starts kicking up sand, you won't have to worry — the dust- and moisture-resistant design means you can keep taking images even when the weather gets dicey.
Power zoom with sharpness and clarity
You get smooth control but retain the immediacy of manual zoom with a power zoom system driven by four Extreme Dynamic (XD) linear motors. Two additional XD motors deliver stealthy and near-silent autofocus.
The lens is constructed of 13 elements in 12 groups. Two aspherical and two extra-low dispersion (ED) lens elements combine to give you high-resolution images with accurate color rendering and minimal distortion. And its 7-blade circular aperture gives you natural-looking defocused background highlights, drawing all the attention to your subject.

Product Research
Features
Overview: The Sony FE PZ 16-35mm F4 G (SELP1635G) is wide-angle power zoom lens for Sony mirrorless cameras with the E-mount. It has a constant F4 maximum aperture on full-range cameras to give you high performance, especially in low light situations. Sony G lenses are designed and manufactured to the highest standards of optical performance, giving you superb clarity and sharpness at all focal lengths.
Lens Construction: The SELP1635G has 13 elements in 12 groups, including two Advanced Aspherical (AA) lenses, a Super-ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass element, and an ED element to suppress aberrations and distortion, and provide high resolution throughout the zoom range. It features a moisture- and dust-resistant design, and a fluorine coating on the front element to repel moisture, fingerprints, and dirt.
Power Zoom (PZ): The SELP1635G's power zoom features 4 XD Linear Motors that is quick to respond and provides ample control. The lens is equipped with a sliding zoom lever that lets you control the zoom speed. Slide the lever slightly for a slow zoom, or slide it fully for a fast zoom. You can also zoom in and out by rotating the zoom ring, if desired. On some Sony Cinema Line cameras, the power zoom can be controlled on the camera, or with some remotes.
Auto Focusing: The lens utilizes two XD Linear Motors to give you fast auto focusing, and to track moving subjects wherever they go. The motors operate in total silence which makes it ideal for recording videos.
Focus Mode Switch: The lens has a Focus Mode Switch to let you choose between Auto and Manual Focus. For AF photography, you should set both the camera and the lens to AF. For Manual Focus, you can have either the camera or the lens set to MF.Focus Hold: The SELP1635G is equipped with a Focus Hold button on the lens barrel. When shooting in Auto Focus mode, pressing the Focus Hold button cancels the AF to fix the current focus, allowing you to take the shot. Releasing the button while pressing the shutter button halfway starts AF again.
Iris Lock/Click Switch: The lens has a 2-way Iris Lock switch that lets you lock the aperture ring at "A" (auto iris) on the aperture scale, or rotate the ring between f/4 and f/22. In the "Release" position, you can rotate the aperture ring between "A" and f/4. In auto iris mode, the exposure is set by the camera. When the Aperture Click Switch is set to "Off," the sound of the aperture ring is reduced to avoid being picked up by the camera's microphone while recording movies.
Circular Aperture: The lens is equipped with a 7-blade circular aperture which provides smooth, natural defocusing.
Lens Hood: The lens comes with the petal-shaped ALC-SH172 lens hood which helps prevent lens flare, and protects the front lens element. When installed, the lens hood adds approximately 11/16" to the overall length of the lens. The hood can be stored on the lens by installing it backwards.
