About the Sony SEL35F18 35mm f/1.8 OSS
Recording the world around you, as you experience it, can be tricky. Lenses have their own characteristics, and they don't always match the way our eyes see things. Now, that can be a good thing; the ways in which lenses manipulate light and space make a huge artistic palette for the photographer. But sometimes you want the images you capture to be as naturalistic as possible. So having this Sony SEL35F18 35mm f/1.8 in your camera bag is a great place to start. Its 52.5mm equivalent focal length captures the world in a manner similar to the way we humans experience it. And being a prime lens (one with a fixed focal length), its optics are simpler than zoom lenses and therefore superbly crisp and free of color fringing. Plus, the autofocus motor on this lens is whisper-quiet, making it a perfect choice for shooting video, as the noise won't be captured on your audio tracks.
With a maximum aperture of f/1.8, this lens is very light-sensitive, and the shallow depth of field that the wide aperture presents is well suited to creating delicately blurred backgrounds for your tack-sharp foreground subjects.

More details on the Sony SEL35F18 35mm f/1.8 OSS
Optics: The Sony SEL35F18 (E 35mm F1.8 OSS) prime lens is compatible with the Sony α NEX-series interchangeable lens cameras. The lens has a 35mm equivalent focal length of 52.5mm, and is recommended for a wide variety of photos, from snapshots to portraits. The bright F1.8 aperture makes it a good lens for low light situations.
Note: Using this lens on a full-frame camera may result in vignetting -- causing the corners of the image to become darker than the center.
Optical SteadyShot (OSS): Equipped with Optical SteadyShot (OSS), the lens compensates for blur caused by camera shake for normal handheld photography. OSS also reduces the reliance on high ISO settings when shooting in dark environments, which greatly enhances the effectiveness of the Hand-held Twilight and Anti-Motion Blur shooting modes. Optical SteadyShot gives you a 4-stop shutter speed advantage when activated.
Quiet Smooth Focus: The SEL35F18 has a high-speed linear motor controls the focus while an in-lens stepping motor in the actuator controls the aperture. The two motors work together to provide extremely quiet operation and smooth focusing, plus quiet and fluid aperture control. This makes them ideal for shooting video because it is unlikely any lens noise will be picked up by the microphone.
Lens Hood: The lens includes the ALC-SH112 Lens Hood to reduce flare and ensure maximum image quality. The lens hood should be removed when using the camera's built-in flash to avoid blocking the flash light. You can store the lens hood by mounting it onto the lens backward. When installed, the lens hood adds approximately 1-3/16" to the total length of the lens.
Focusing: The lens can be used with the NEX-series cameras in the auto-focus, Direct Manual Focus, or manual focus modes. You can switch between focusing modes in the camera menu.
Dimensions: The lens has the following dimensions: Diameter=2.448", Length=1.972" (2.446"w/caps)
|Lens||E35mm F1.8 OSS|
|Angle of View||44°|
|Lens Construction||8 elements in 6 groups |
