And with select Android™ devices, you can control sources and respond to texts or emails with voice control. You can also communicate with Siri through this receiver, including music search and other voice commands. Sony MEX-GS810BH

Sony's MEX-GS810BH lets you enjoy the great sound of HD Radio stations.

Bluetooth for hands-free calling (and more)

Bluetooth offers convenience when you're behind the wheel, with hands-free calling and wireless audio streaming from your mobile device. The MEX-GS810BH will also connect to two devices at the same time — great if you have work and personal mobile accounts. Pairing is easy with Sony's Simple Secure Pairing system, and even easier if your phone supports Near Field Communications (NFC) technology — just touch your device to the receiver and you're set.

The best sound in radio

HD Radio

The MEX-GS810BH boasts an integrated HD Radio™ tuner. When you tune into a station broadcasting an HD Radio signal, you'll enjoy near CD-quality FM broadcasts and AM that doesn't suffer from tinny sound and static. And HD Radio offers some other pretty cool features, like iTunes® Tagging — it lets you save songs you hear for later purchase when your iPhone is plugged in to the stereo's USB port.

This Sony also plays CDs, and features dual USB inputs that let you connect both an iPod® or iPhone and a thumb drive. Sony's Quick-BrowZer search tool makes finding the right playlist, album, artist, or song an easy task. If you're a fan of streaming music, you'll have total access to your Pandora® account with your iPhone, Android, or Blackberry.

And you can reach for the stars by adding a SiriusXM satellite radio tuner (not included, requires subscription). Satellite radio offers an unparalleled variety of music, news, sports, and talk, plus your favorite channels will stay with you wherever you drive.

Tune it up

Sony's Digital Reality Amp puts out some serious power to your speakers, and you can tweak that output with an impressive array of sound-shaping tools, including a 10-band EQ, time alignment, and comprehensive frequency filters. Digital Sound Enhancement Engine (DSEE) improves the sound of compressed music. Three sets of 5-volt preamp outputs send a high-powered, low-noise signal to your external amps. Sony covers this versatile car stereo with a 3-year warranty.

    Poor Reliability

John from Rincon, GA on 9/21/2018

    Verified customer (What's this?)
    Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

As reported by another reviewer, this unit is prone to the speakers cutting in and out, Bluetooth disconnecting, and in my case, loud "pops" from the speakers after which the unit dies until it cools down. I have generally used Kenwood or Pioneer for my car stereo installations, and have never had a unit failure. To be fair, it is covered by a 3-year warranty and Sony makes the return process (for replacement with a new unit) relatively painless. Who knows how long the second replacement radio will last? It is unlikely Sony will be on my list for car audio in the future.

Pros: Feature rich; works well -when it works.

    Cons: Disappointing reliability.

This is the second MEX-GS810BH that I purchased. The first one started having issues a couple of months after installation, and the problems got worse and worse. Speakers cutting in and out, Bluetooth disconnecting, and then resetting by itself. Sony refunded what I paid, and, since the car was already wired for the Sony, I bought another one. Now, less than a month after installation, it is starting to show some of the same signs.

Pros: Great sound and features, when it works.

Cons: Poor manufacturing quality. Problems in just a few months.

Great sound, easy install. I bought it because I wanted more features than the Pioneer unit it was replacing had. Really surprised by how much better the Sony sounds.

    Pros: Sound, ease of use

Cons: Doesn't work with the latest Android phones- I have a Sony w/ Android 8.0

Strong signal capture, picks up stations my factory radio did not. Puts out richer sound through original factory-install speakers. Bluetooth connectivity was one of my priorities and glad to say it works well in this system. Comes with a sensitive microphone for phone calls with a really LONG cable making it easy to locate it where you need it.

    Pros: Features, sound quality, connectivity.

    Cons: All good

After ten years of service by my Kenwood KDC-X491 that I purchased from Crutchfield in 2008, the CD player and USB port stopped working, so I went back to Crutchfield to get a new one. I was determined to get an Alpine CD Head Unit, but after comparing all the specs and prices, I could not pass on this Sony. I was not looking for a Sony, but many of the options it has were not even available on the Alpines, especially in this price range. The Sony came with a remote, has a stronger tuner, has higher voltage pre-outs, has two USB ports, and has HD Radio. I was hoping to get RDS with it, but it didn't end up mattering, because all of my local stations broadcast in HD so I get the station name, artist name, and song title on the display anyway! The Bluetooth pairing works well with my Galaxy S6, although I could not get NFC to connect with a tap of the phone. This didn't matter, because the Bluetooth works fine. I can dial up youtube on my phone and hear the audio from my car speakers. The phone feature is nice too. I ran the microphone wire behind all the trim up to my sun visor so it looks sharp and works as intended. The only thing I wish was different, is that I wish it would dim with my interior dash lights (maybe it does if it is hooked up differently?) It has a manual dimmer, which does the job. As far as the audio goes, I am hearing things in my music that I've never noticed before! It is crisp and clear. I am so glad I got this stereo!

Pros: Six Channel 5 volt Pre-outs 8 dBf Tuner Remote Included HD Radio Two USB ports One Auxiliary port 3 year warranty 10 band EQ Bluetooth Pairing Big volume knob

Cons: Menus take some time to learn. Buttons feel cheap and take time to respond when pressed. Display does not automatically dim with dash lights.

Nice unit. Great hd radio. Good Bluetooth function. However after answering a phone call, the music pauses and will not restart after the call ends.

I find Sony head-units as being one of the best available. The sounds they produce are extraordinary and the built in power is good for the times I want to crank it up! You can't go wrong with a Sony!!

Cons: Setup could be a little easier for the novice among us.

Sound is fine, nothing to write home about, but definitely above average. The display is also nice and bright. After that, things fall off in a hurry, the menus are tedious, the display during normal operation is awful at displaying useful information. I guess I never realized how much I appreciated 3 line displays on my previous units. And, the smartphone app... abandoned by Sony in 2014 on Android, so if you're using an Android version greater than Lollipop, it will crash frequently, not support playing music through your phone, and won't let you close the app without doing a force quit. The Sony support chat recommended connecting an iPhone to the radio to fix my problems with their Android App. In their defense, Sony replaced the app years ago with something called Music Center, but that new app doesn't support this Head Unit, so don't expect good smartphone interface with android outside of BT streaming and calling. I'm really on the fence if I should keep this unit or return.

This radio has worked great. My music sounds awesome, especially with the sound enhancement features (no more messing around with bass, treble, mid). The menu is pretty easy to navigate once you mess around with it for a few minutes. There are quite a few preset colors but you could create any one you want with adjusting RGB. I haven't gotten to hook up my amp and subs yet with the preamp outputs but I'm sure it'll work great. I've only had a couple issues but they're very minor. I can't find HD Radio but I only have one station in my area so not a big deal. The silver buttons on left side feel a little cheap but again this is a budget radio. Finally, if you wanted to change the bass/treble, you can only do so through your phone app (that I know of). I would definitely recommend this to anybody looking for good sub $200 stereo.

Pros: Sound Enhancement Color options (rainbow or sound sync) USB, Aux, and Bluetooth Built in Amp and Preamp outputs

Cons: Can't adjust bass/treble from radio No HD Radio? Silver buttons feel cheap

I like this HU for the $. If I had a chance to buy another HU again, I probably would have went with a Pioneer HU though. For some reason I can't get the EQ to make my speakers sound the way I believe they can. I'm running a pair of JL Audio TR650-CSi 6.5 components in the front doors/dash connected to the HU. In the rear I'm running a pair of Kicker 41KSC6934 6x9s in the rear deck connected to the HU as well. Also connected is a Pioneer TS-W3003D4 12 in. subwoofer paired to a GM-D8604 (I know, it's a 4 ch amp, but it works for the sub....for now based on the Ohm load/experience/tuning, research & known potential issues). Sound is loud & clear. Overall the HU is reliable & clean looking with many options & a great discount right now. This HU will not revert back to the time after changing sources, songs, etc. You HAVE to leave it on the Clock display or have to hold "Menu" for a few seconds, then once it changes the display, keep pressing until the clock appears. If anything, the button should be labeled "Display" so you can easily toggle through the displays & have to hold down "Display" to access the menu...or just give an option or setting to revert to the clock after 10 seconds (after changing a source, track, etc). I once had the unit reset all the settings as if the battery was disconnected. I've heard of that issue on other websites for reviews of this product, but since it was a 1 time issue & It comes w/a 3 yr. warranty, all should go well. Again, overall a good deal

Pros: HD Radio 2 USB ports Variable color display Hi Volt pre outs 3 year warranty Pandora BT Clean look Comes with a small remote! As many source inputs that you can think of for a single DIN stereo

Cons: Display of radio doesn't revert to the time after viewing details (track name, artist, etc) Color can only be changed for the entire faceplate (not dual zone variable, but the entire faceplate color can be changed for day/night driving) EQ could have more band like some Pioneer decks Could use a variable Q for the EQ bands No Android support via USB for apps or files No way to disable HD radio because of poor hd/non hd radio reception You will hear a noticeable switch from HD t

Excellent product! I love the carbon fiber look. The multi color feature is beautiful. The sound quality is excellent. The menu is easy to navigate, and the equalizer is good. There are some cool features like bass enhancement for the rear speakers, or a mode to run the rear speakers like a sub woofer. The microphone clarity is very good as well for phone calls. The only bad experience I've had so far is bluetooth audio. I can't seem to get the audio to work on an iPhone 8 through bluetooth when playing music through the default app or Spotify. If I fiddle with it more, maybe I'll get it to work. However, it should work automatically when the bluetooth is paired.

Cons: Bluetooth audio with iPhone 8 is finicky

I replaced the head unit in my 2006 Hyundai Sonata (now sold) and decided to go with another Sony in my 2009 Corolla. I had a small but strict criteria for the replacement: HD Radio, Bluetooth + microphone, and USB This unit satisfies that and my speakers have never sounded better. If you live in a large metro area, HD radio might open the door to a lot more options in music/news. I love how the static is eliminated once it kicks in. The LED color options are nice but I stuck with amber to match my cars factory lighting color scheme. The remote is nice, but controlling the unit with my hands seems more natural. I'm 6'2", so reach has never been a problem.

Great deck packed with features for a great price. Sound quality Is excellent and it really brought my '87 Nissan 300ZX to the 21st century. So nice to have HD-radio as the music is clear and have more stations to choose from. Having said that, I wish the stereo had more than 6 presets on the faceplate. It was probably 18 or so years back, but Sony made a CD-player deck with 10 presets. I thought it was overkill at the time, but HD radio wasn't invented yet back then.

    Pros: Quality Features - esp HD-Radio Price/Value

Cons: The color on the faceplate is adjustable, but the green was too light or too dark to match the illumination on my Nissan.

I find the ui a little cumbersome at first, but after a week or so I can navigate like a pro. I thought while in Tuner mode the stations would display the music info but either I can't figure it out or the unit doesn't support it. The second USB (corded) I think is useless and didn't use it. The phone interface is great and the mic makes for clear calls without yelling into it. The sound quality is phenomenal. Using the outdated/abandoned app helps with equalizing but nothing much more.

Pros: Exceptional sound quality; BT phone ease; multiple source options.

Cons: Outdated companion app; no Station info (song titles, etc.); mostly useless 2nd USB connection.

This is a really great unit. The audio quality is much improved as compared to my old factory radio. The installation was very easy with all of the needed gear provided by Crutchfield. The only issue I had was when I mistakenly plugged in the provided microphone into the steering wheel controls port (which fits fine). This basically froze the unit in demo mode and made it appear non-working. After realizing that hiccup all went smoothly. I love the HD radio feature. You can actually hear the difference when the radio tuner automatically switches from analog to digital mode. The radio face color selection is so flexible that it could be customized to match any dash/interior. As some have stated, the brightness of the "call" button is a bit much at night but the face display can be customized such that when the car head lights are on the unit automatically switches display into the night mode, which can be customized independently from the day mode. The dimmest display setting appears to be for red, which works well with my orange illuminated dash. Bluetooth works very well for both music and hands-free calling with my Android 7 phone and I have had no problems with automatically syncying the phone and radio and there has been no dropped Bluetooth connections. However, the USB does not work with my Android phone mass storage mode. I get USB NO SUPPORT message (-1s). But, both USBs do work with my USB flash drives just fine. The USBs also work wel

Pros: 1. HD Radio 2. Bluetooth Apps and Hands-Free Calling 3. 2x USBs for charging and music 4. Greatly customizable face color (independent for day/night driving)

Cons: 1. USB shows NO SUPPORT for Android 7 mass storage mode, so the only way to play music from Android 7 is via Bluetooth 2. Annoying beeping reminder to remove unit's face after the unit is powered off

All you have to do is turn your Bluetooth and nps on and then touch your phone to the head unit and it syncs. Lots of colors for the display if that is what your looking for. So far very happy with it.

Overall this appears to be a good quality radio. It has many of the functions I wanted. I wanted Bluetooth audio connectivity, HD radio, CD, and song title display. This unit has all of that. With the wiring harness I purchased install was super simple. The included MIC had a very long cable being able to run it through the A frame and instrument cluster. The sound is very clear. I do have a few minor concerns. It seems to have trouble locking onto some of the less powerful local stations. You can change the display to show artist, album, or song title but not scroll through them automatically. The phone app however does display all this information. I cannot currently get the builtin Pandora via BT to work. As I can just use my Pandora app over Bluetooth audio, this is not a major concern. The only other thing to note is that the shielding on the wiring was a little tough. My tool is probably a little dull, but it seemed like I almost yanked out the whole wire when trying to strip it back.

Pros: Sound Quality Features, Bluetooth HD Radio Good digital EQ

Cons: Pandora over BT does not currently work Difficulty picking up lower amp stations

The USB back cable I routed to my glove box and use memory sticks to plug my music in. The bluetooth phone connections for calls is very nice. Great sound with incoming and outgoing calls. Hands free calling is awesome and access to my phone book on the dial is really cool as well. Well pleased witth everything about this unit. I also had to purchase new front speakers and just got them installed. They were blown and the rear are not that great. They are next on the list to be replaced.Paired this with Infinity speakers. Like the custom EQ settings. Pretty easy to install. Took longer to route the microphone cable than to install the radio. I also paid for the prewire. That is worth every dime. Toggling around to use the functions takes some getting used to. Not as straight forward as some factory set ups, but more feature-rich. The HD feature is pretty nice. The front and rear USB features add some nice flexibility. It is easy to fill a mini USB stick with music, then plug into the unit and off you go. I wish the metadata indexing of albums would work as I am still forced to toggle song by song alphabetically to get where I need. Pairing my phone was a bit of a challenge (Samsung Galaxy S7) using Bluetooth, but the NFC function did the trick instead. Lighting is interesting with so many choices too. CD player works flawlessly. In summary, this unit gives you a lot for the modest cost.

Pros: Two USB ports Clean sound HD radio

    Cons: Busy interfaces

To be perfectly fair, I had shied away from Sony mobile audio for a long time (ever since early xplod units), but I was looking for something reasonably priced with an hd radio tuner, a decent equalizer, and maybe bluetooth though that was secondary. After scouring craigslist, offer up, letgo, Facebook groups, local audio forums, etc. I realized for the money I might as well look for something new. This seemed too good to be true. Hd radio, bluetooth w/microphone, 10 band equalizer, 5v preamp outputs, rgb display, cd player, 3 year warranty, it seriously was everything I was looking for and more! At the time, they had an open box models for $113 or so, nothing even came close to features for the money. I took a chance on Sony for the first time in 15+ years, and I'm totally glad I did! there is something about this units processing that brings a new depth to the sound. I'm not sure what it is yet but I absolutely fell in love. Granted it's in an old economy car with used pioneer and Sony speakers from previous vehicles, it's only going to sound so good, but woah buddy this head unit makes it all it can be! I removed a 13 year old jvc unit from the previous owner, and this is worlds apart. Even though the internal amp claims 18w rms, it certainly seems to handle more cleanly. It was good, but I put an old alpine f450 amp in and ran 16ga ofc, it's glorious now! Digital audio correction is cool, bluetooth syncs up fine and even does voice control. I bought

Pros: PRICE value Hd radio Signal processing 6x 5v outputs Bluetooth w/voice command Custom or preset rgb Cd player 10 band equalizer w/ decent presets Easy to navigate, intuitive menus Bt sync is easy and fast Dual usb inputs, plus 3.5mm jack Seriously, everything about this is a pro. I bought two of them, I was so happy with the first. Brought the gadgetry of my econobox 91 civic hatch into the 21st century!

Cons: I can't complain, but since we're dreaming here, I wish phone gps would override radio, but apparently that's not a common feature unless gps is built in to the unit? Also if the screen was pixels instead of just lcd text, it would make the equalizer a bit easier to shape. But nothing came close to value until you went over double the price. Zero realistic complaints.

Good basic radio. Two major gripes: 1 - it apparently will not autopair with a second phone. This is my Wife's car radio, and it will autopair with her phone. Mine must be paired manually every time. If I remove her phone, it will autopair every time with mine. Pairs almost instantly, though. 2) the display is BLINDINGLY bright at night, waaay too bright, even with the auto dim function. The big button is like a distracting beacon in your peripheral vision. The audio adjustments are kinda bewildering there are so many tweaks, most of them I dont even understand. Otherwise, pretty good unit for the price.

Pros: Nice basic unit, inexpensively priced.

Cons: Far too bright, distractingly so. Will not auto pair with second phone, only with first.

I bought this radio to add blue tooth function to my 2005 Chrysler Crossfire. I spend a lot of time on the phone while I am driving and this unit looked like it would be perfect. Installation was easy and it actually took longer to run the microphone wire than it took to install the unit. Sound is great - way better and clearer than the stock radio. The blue tooth works well, too. There is only one problem. Every time I get into the car, the radio says there is no blue tooth device. I have to re-sync my Samsung Galaxy Note 5 every time I go anywhere. I've tried resetting the radio and updating the phone, but it still does the same thing. Since I primarily bought this radio for blue tooth, I am disappointed. BTW, my phone syncs perfectly and is remembered by my 3 other vehicle's radios.

About a month ago, I bought a Kenwood digital media receiver (with no CD player) for my truck after an older Sony CD head unit passed away. After getting the Kenwood in my dash and putting the same MP3 files on a thumb drive, I quickly learned that I made a huge mistake. No matter how I adjusted the sound on the Kenwood media receiver, I could not get the music to sound good. From one song to the next, the sound was mildly to drastically different. I believe that I have a good ear for tuning car audio systems, and I know that MP3's are not as good as .wav files....but the sound reproduction was so varied that I had Crutchfield swap the Kenwood media receiver for this Sony MEX-GS810BH....and I played the MP3 tunes on a burned CD like I used to. Now my music sounds great again! Granted....if you by a Kenwood CD head unit, the sound could be better than playing it thru the USB input....but every time I buy a Kenwood or JVC product of any kind, I keep going back to Sony. And I mean every single time. There's something about Sony head units that are just better than any other brand....including Alpine and other more expensive brands. Don't waste your money....just buy a mid-level Sony, and do it thru Crutchfield....cuz they are the best place for all you car audio needs. I've been a customer since the early 90s and I will continue to be a customer because of their great service!

Great unit. Sounds fantastic. It was a significant improvement from the OEM unit in my Boxster. I was surprised that the basic radio reception also improved. One thing to note on installation.... Crutchfield may want to amend instructions specific to 986 Porsche Boxsters. There's an alarm trip-wire within the dash that rests against the factory unit. Once it is removed, if the replacement unit does not push against the the switch in the same manner, the car alarm cannot be fully engaged and will continue to go off sporadically. Luckily a little piece of tape can be used to disengage the switch. Otherwise, installation was a breeze (I reinstalled the unit at least 5 times in an hour just to figure out the alarm issue!). Also, I highly recommend Crutchfield's wiring harness service. It saves a lot of time, especially for some German cars that use odd color coding (ie the red and yellow lines are switched in my car).

Pros: Easy to install and easy to use. Great sound and features.

Cons: It took a little bit to figure out how to display clock while using the radio. No big problems.

This headunit is amazing! Really made my stock speakers sound better. (That's the next change out) it was straightforward and very easy to install. I read a lot of reviews and even had doubts about it but in the end made this my final choice. I sat down one evening for about 30 minutes and satered the wiring harness to the one for my truck then woke up the next morning and realized it wouldn't take long to install. After that realization I went out to my truck and installed in dim light at 5:30am before work. Onto features, the options are endless. I read one review specifically that talked about having to change through every source to get to the one you want which takes a while. I stumbled upon a solution that if you press source and turn the volume knob it changes a lot faster. It's been in the truck for a week and has worked pretty flawlessly except one day where auto-connect Bluetooth didn't want to work but after a quick phone reset (iPhone) it has worked great! Very happy with this product. It works and fits pretty well. If installing in a 07-13 Silverado the install kit has a higher mount which interferes with a piece of plastic behind the original stereo. I took a quick oscillating tool and zipped it right out and it fit fine. Not the radios fault more of a design issue of the install kit. The Siri Eyes Free feature is the best thing yet. Easy to use and makes calling and texting with voice much more convenient and safe. Overa

I bought this radio to replace a stock one in a 2011 Malibu. My main reason was to add bluetooth (BT) capability for handsfree calling at a reasonable price. For that, the radio fits the bill perfectly. Its other features, such as BT Audio streaming are a nice extra, so for example you can stream your favorite station while getting nav directions, all from your phone over the in car stereo; its tuner also picks up stations very well. Siri works well and is easy to activate by pressing the volume button. So why 4 stars? The radio has some idiosyncrasies that make it madding at times: The inability to display the time onscreen unless the AM/FM tuner is selected or the radio off. It would be nice to display the time when streaming audio. It doesn't display station frequency or call signs in tuner mode, nor does it scroll through the information on the song playing. The controls are confusing and the manual not real helpful, for example "Pressing and holding 'SRC" turns the radio off. Some presets are odd; it would not autoconnect my iPhone until I turned the BT radio on in the BT settings section as it was off by default I am happy with the radio and can live with its quirks as it does what I need. I recommend it to anyone looking for a reasonably priced HD radio and is willing to put up with some odd ways of doing things.

Pros: Solid sound including HD BT phone and audio outstanding Lots of features for the price (BT phone and audio, HD, 2 usb inputs)

Cons: Limited customization and some things such as time display across all functions is not possible Hard to understand controls and manual not much help.

The ONLY thing I don't like and I think they all do it is: You can't have the clock and RDS on at the same time if you have the clock you can't have RDS or if you want the RDS you can't have the clock.

I would not recommend the MEX810bH. Although it offers good sound and digital FM radio with good reception range, the Sony App Remote is very poorly implemented and does not work with iOS 11.0. Unless you plug the phone into a USB cable or manually sync your phone each time you start no digital music is available. The stereo has no memory of previous connections and forget about that waving your phone in front of the receiver. This unit is extremely expensive for what you get, is distracting to use, and difficult to navigate menus. Since Sony has never updated App Remote, those functions are all bricked for Apple users. Do not buy.

    Pros: Good sound, digital FM

Cons: Difficult and distracting to use and Sony has never updated the required App Remote.

Straight forward installation and easy to use menu system. An excellent choice for a OEM replacement for my 2003 Mini Cooper at a very reasonable price. A bit confusing on whether it has RDS or not, for me, RDS works with HD radio stations but not regular RDS(non-HD).

Pros: Plenty of features for custom colors and audio profiles. Two USB inputs Bluetooth connectivity.

Cons: RDS doesn't seem to work with non-HD radio stations.

I purchased the Panasonic car stereo I'm replacing from Crutchfield with the Sony. I can't say how much I loved that Panasonic over the years. It kicked butt and with fine tuning the sound pumping was absolutely slick. I am an extremely picky audiophile dude and work hard to shape my sounds just right. I will miss the Panasonic and would have kept it if it had bluetooth. The new Sony I have now is impressive. Great colors and many sound shaping options. However after many many hours of reading and shaping in every way I could to make it sound as clean as possible, ironically the old Panasonic actually sounds better. My speakers are OEM equipment however they are the upgraded package and have always sounded amazing. I am disappointed. With all the features and HD the Sony radio has I was sure it would over the top. Also trying to use the remote app Sony mentioned in the Manuel and it would have been great. However it has many glitches and from reading the reviews, nobody uses it. I hoped to adjust the eq settings with it however all it shows is Pandora. I'm disappointed. Sony is one of the top audio manufacturer and I love their stuff. I read a lot before buying this new stereo and I feel let down. I guess I'm stuck with it. How unfortunate. I've always been a loyal Crutchfield customer since the 1980s. Guess I'll just have to keep trying

    Pros: Great colors and features

Cons: My old Panasonic sounds better than this new Sony I'm speechless

Sounds and works great, but reset to demo mode not even 1 week after installing. Read already as common problem. Can't give 4 or 5 stars with a common defect like that otherwise would be 4-5 stars. Also for Android Bluetooth using the app on phone is incompatible with audio Bluetooth and will just keep you stuck on phone mode.

I ordered this unit because I wanted to put surround sound in my RV. I had just removed a JVC KDHDR1 that had surround sound. I could not find a deck unit with surround sound so I figured I would pair this unit with Sonys 1994 digital car audio processor. Sony says new unit is not compatible. Crutchfield worker Cooper recommended a digital processor but it is from Alpine and is expensive. I think I should win the review contest because I could use the money to buy this processor to make this system over the top! What if I met aliens in the desert and they sent me to another planet?? Wouldn't my system sound better representing Crutchfield in 2017 with a surround sound processor? I am happy with the 810's features. The Bluetooth is wireless excitement for any planet! I am eager to use the high end feature with the equalizer on my smart phone. It is sure to be a convenience to all camping life forms in my ride. This system is going to consist of 10 speakers and three amps. I have purchased this Sony model because it was listed as being in the "top ten" of several installer online review articles. Several consumer reports said that this 810 model is at the top of the list. You could not buy a more auxiliary friendly deck unit in 2017 for this price. Great symphony of thunderous booms with wine glass shattering crystal highs make you part of whatever audio you choose to hear! Sony shares all the emotions of your favorite music with this new deck unit.

Pros: Versatility,Looks, Power, Bluetooth capability, It is ready for the second coming!

Cons: Only con is if I did not win the contest review prize money. Other than that great unit.

Buyer beware - the App Remote download free Google Play is a great feature and one of the best things about this unit. HOWEVER, it only works on Android 4.2 and below. I recently upgraded my phone which is running Android 7.0 and App Remote does not work anymore. Also, Sony has not upgraded App Remote since v2.0 back in 2014. I wish I had known about this issue before buying and installing this unit a little over a month ago.

Thoughts: While this is a well designed head unit, there are several downsides I have found, and at least one discrepancy in the specs. ~First of all, there is no support for firmware updates, so essentially no future-proofing; I hate that you can't disable certain things on the main menu, which makes switching back and forth from Bluetooth to Radio somewhat cumbersome if you only use those plus USB port 2, like me. ~Second, for some reason, the unit, when reset due to battery being pulled or the face plate being knocked around enough for the contacts to lose continuity, starts in Demo mode, which causes it to flash its colors around wildly while driving. ~Third, not even the manual mentions what on earth Slope 1, 2, or 3 actually represent. My guess is -6db/oct, -12db/oct, and -18db/oct, but I have also have no idea if this also impacts phase since no info is given. Now to the real problems: ~Max volume will give you over 5V RMS. That's right. It's about 5.3V RMS, which means they could justify calling it a 6V preout. I have to keep the volume at 47-48 (out of 50) to keep it <5.0V for my DSP. ~Clicking sound is audible when Bluetooth is connected, but not playing anything. I don't have a way to measure SNR, unfortunately, but hiss (noise) is kept to a minimum and can be attenuated other ways, if that's your thing. On a final note, I do love this head unit. It's one of the few things I don'

Pros: -Built in Equalizer -5V preouts -High Sensitivity FM radio -4.1 channel -Bright customizable display (and optional white menu) -HD radio

Cons: -Difficult Menu (but intuitive) -Uncertain high/lowpass "slopes" -Likes to completely reset on most power losses, or randomly (make sure you save your EQ settings on paper) -Heatsink gets HOT, even w/ only preouts active

I have not learned all that this radio can provide. The one thing I do not like is that it is a pain to change from one source to another. It would have been nice if their were separate buttons for CD/Tuner/etc. Search does not seek out the strongest stations unless I just have not learned out to do it properly. Their is so much advancement over the radios of old but I miss the dial to change the stations. After I have learned all of it's features, I can give more details on what I like and don't like.

    Pros: Wattage, sound quality, features.

Cons: Too complicated for a old guy. Mounting sleeve does not fit the opening of my 86 Mercedes 560 SEL so the radio is not secured. When I purchased the radio, I was told that it would.

Radio, CD, and calls sound great with included bluetooth. Streaming audio sounds decent too, although stereo seperation could be a little better but I think that is my source (primarily use it with Amazon Music and Google Play Music). Unit was nearly a perfect fit in my Coachmen Campervan (1996 Ford E250) and the Bluetooth speaker for making calls works excellent. I chose this unit over a similar Kenwood for the NFC feature. Unfortunately NFC isn't that great because it only helps with initial Bluetooth setup. My fouor main issues with this unit are: (1) The Bluetooth automatically connects to your Android phone and the Sony app prevents use of your phone's keypad. If you are sitting in your parking spot (or campground) you'll have to force quit the Sony app or disconnect Bluetooth if you want to use your phone/tablet (even if you aren't streaming anything). (2) Sometimes the title/artist info won't appear on the receiver when streaming from a music service. Fixing this requires that I restart the receiver and/or streaming music app. (3) While you can stream the audio from your phone's GPS to the receiver, it won't interrupt CD's or AM/FM radio. If you want to listen to music and your GPS you'll need to stream your music. (4) Occasionally the receiver will completely lock up and require a reboot. This happens every 30-50 start cycles and is just plain annoying.

Pros: great sound, looks great, bluetooth calling ans streaming

Cons: locks up, auto bluetooth connect, artist info doesn't alwasy display while streaming, bluetooth won't inturrupt FM/AM radio or CD.

It has a few quirks but I mostly would love this product if it weren't for one glaring issue. I've had it for a couple of weeks and find that on random occasions (at least 1/3 of the time I start my car) I don't get any sound out of it, despite it appearing to fully function otherwise. It doesn't matter what source I'm using. If I leave it on for awhile anyway, sometimes the sound will suddenly pop on a few minutes into a drive, but it's just been completely unreliable.

The reception was lousy, but after an email to the crutchfield team, they straightened me out. Have to connect to the blue/white wire from the sony connector. After that --- HD radio all the way. 5 star source unit with very low THD, the function button is off to the far left side directly beside the CALL button and is not clunky but does require a little getting used too, the menu is intuitive and the variable illumination is a nice touch, i use it as the source unit for 5-channel full-active system and extremely pleased. The HD Radio is a nice touch and CD sound quality is excellent, i listen to Pandora and use a Thumb Drive with the USB slot, everything works like it should and really stepped up my audio system, i could live without the faux kevlar look on the trim ring and would prefer if Sony kept that black, HINT :) BT Audio is awesome and it pairs perfectly with both my Motorola and ZTE mobile phones, Pandora control works as advertised and once you have spent some time with it and gotten use to it's somewhat quirky functionality you begin to appreciate the quality Sony built into this source unit, it's top shelf. I forgot it had a clock mainly because i have a mobile phone with a clock and could care less if the source unit won't display the time when it's in a function other than standby..

Pros: Lights up when i turn the key on..

Cons: Expensive but worth it, you get what you pay for..

After my factory installed in-dash unit failed, I chose this unit as the replacement. It gave me back most of what I lost from the original unit. However, switching between modes is far from intuitive. Pressing the source button (repeatedly) gives the user a one-way scroll through the various modes. Using the Sony App on a smartphone gets you directly to the right mode, but that's not a great (or safe) option while driving. Finding non-preset satellite radio stations is also a bit of a chore, also best not done while driving. I've found that the sound quality from this unit (without replacing my factory speakers) is a bit improved over the stock unit. Bluetooth phone call quality is very good, vastly improved over the factory Bluetooth. Supposedly, this unit has the capability to read (aloud) incoming text messages, but I haven't found out how to do that. I've occasionally heard a very faint announcement of who the incoming text was from.

Pros: Good sound quality. Nice appearance. Excellent Bluetooth phone sound quality.

Cons: Changing modes is cumbersome. Finding non-preset Satellite stations is very cumbersome.

I have an older Sony HU that I have had a great experience with. I have not had a hiccup with it. This new HU from Sony is the polar opposite. I have had it for a month now. First issue I have is it's menu interface is clunky. Its great having all of these features but their manual is lacking so I spent some time figuring things out. Then I ran into a problem with all of its 'sources'. Most factory HUs will only give a source as an option if there is media connected to it. So if I want to change sources I have to scan through sources that are not in use (some I will never use.) There is no option to disable those sources that I know of. Using the Pandora app requires that I press the pause button once it is connected. Again not a feature that I have seen on an OEM HU. That step adds clunkiness to the interface. The worst part so far is that HU randomly reset itself. I soldered and shrink tubing all of my connections. I would have suspected my work if not for the HU scrolling through the demo screens and colors at a very fast rate. I have since reprogrammed my custom color and it has defaulted to another color.

    Pros: Sounds good

Cons: Clunky interface, sources that don't hide when no media present, thin manual and possible electronic issue.

This radio is great. Good looks, great sound, and lots of useful features. I replaced the factory radio in my truck with this Sony model. The Bluetooth connectivity is great for hands-free phone operation. The combination of 2 USB inputs for dongles or Ipods and the CD changer provide many options for music playback. The display can be color coded to match your interior ambience.

Pros: Bluetooth USB inputs CD player Aux Audio connections (Frt/Rear/Subwoofer) Configurable color display Good power / sound

Cons: Display controls allow you to dim the display ... but it still seems too bright for me.. it doesn't dim with car dash dimmer switch. USB thumb drives are tricky...by the book, you should turn the unit off and remove any dongle before turning the engine on or off.. other wise you may corrupt the drive... I had trouble with an 8GB drive losing connection or being corrupted. I tested a 2 GB drive and it works great no matter how I treat it. (I leave it in all the time through startup/shu

I bought this unit after reading 'stellar' reviews here @ Crutchfield, and elsewhere. I received the unit. Nice enough box. Unboxed, decent construction. Installed easily enough. Turned it on ... & that's when the problems began with this P.O.C.! Display kept flipping out, demo mode randomly turns on/off, USB flash drive navigation is random-order. Audio distort even @ moderate volumes. ( this is an external amp setup. My amps are fine.) And the "AppRemote" Android app. Srsly?! Can't actually Do anything with it. Get That off my phone ... Called great-as-usual Crutchfield support, got pointed to Sony support. Yikes! After voice-mail trees, I finally get to a human(oid). Clrly, trained by Mircosoft -- all they can suggest is "Reset the unit", unable to grok that the Fourth time isn't going to work any better than the prior 3 times with no effect. I tried to 'escalate' from these clownss to Sony 'Executive' customer support. Here's a shocker!! -- more shenanigans. I had enough. Crap product & worse service! *NOW* I remember why I haven't bought a Sony product in years!! Thank goodness for Crutchfield. Call CustSvc, get an RA - no questions asked. Rip the deck out & ship it back to Crutchfield. It's gone !! I traded up to a Kenwood Excelon KDC-X998. 2 days later, it's installed, and -- other than Lousy glare/contrast -- it's a great audio product. So far

Pros: It didn't blow up and burn the car to ashes.

Cons: It arrived in the first place.

Love Sony radios! This is the updated version of the last one I had in my previous truck and the quality is great! I love everything except I can't get it to auto-sync to my phone's Bluetooth when I start the truck up like the older model. All has to be done on the phone and the radio in unison every time. The colors and quality as well as options with this radio are stellar! Would always recommend Sony!

Pros: variety, quality, hardiness, and pretty much almost everything.

Cons: Refuses to auto-sync to the Bluetooth of my phone like previous models could.

I just replaced my head unit with this one. I had Sirius connected to an AUX on the stock head unit but was tired of all the extra wires. For this unit I also purchased the SiriusXM add on. Its a good thing since the HD radio is a joke and since you can't turn it off it essentially ruins the regular radio as well. The Sound when playing from satellite or off of the iPhone via USB is excellent. The sound over BT is very good as well but you can tell the difference. I like the app and that the iPhone paired when plugged into the USB. It would be nice if you could add other apps inside the Sony app. I prefer Waze to Apple maps and if you use maps within the app it is the only thing you hear. If you want directions and music your only option is to use BT audio and then the directions interrupt the music.

Pros: iPhone integration and app are nice, bluetooth call quality, sound quality and controls

    Cons: Radio is BAD.

    Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

This receiver has exceeded my expectations. I replaced the factory unit (with 6 CD changer built in) in a 2005 Ford Escape Hybrid that my son uses. I wanted a unit that had Bluetooth streaming as well as HD Radio. The sound quality is great to spectacular with the factory speakers, after you set the sound to your preference. I used the factory presets for that, but it gives you the option to shape the sound any way you like. (You do need to select the sound for each input separately, which was easy to do. I set the sound for the FM and it only took a minute to figure out why the music streaming from my iPhone did not sound as good). The FM reception is so much better than anything I have ever heard. In fact, I did not realize that there were so many stations in my area. The existing factory radios on any vehicle that my family drives does not come close to this unit. It only took me a minute to figure out how the HD radio works, and if I can anyone can. I was delighted that when I had my Google GPS running and streaming audio at the same time from my iPhone that the music volume would automatically dim when the GPS was giving me directions. I have not made any hands free phone calls as yet, but I imagine that it works the same way. I am probably going to put this unit in my old 1996 Toyota Celica Convertible also.

Pros: Great Sound with factory speakers and enough power for most people, I would think. The FM reception is the best I have ever heard. Blue Tooth streaming is great, and CD sounds great as expected. The factory setting on the color is to continually change......my 16 year old thinks that is pretty cool, but you can set it to anything. The installation was fairly straightforward. Again, if I could do it, pretty much most people who contemplate doing it can.

Cons: If I had one wish, it would be for bigger control "buttons". My old Ford Escape just bounces down the road and I found that by resting a few fingers in the pocket below the unit, I can keep a finger on the "next station seek button". The plastic installation bracket was adequate and worked. It took a little time with the instructions and talking to a Crutchfield tech to understand the install.

Because my 350z did not have the original head unit the directions to hook up the electrical parts just didn't fit. so for $70 I had a professional installer put it in cooking about 30 minutes and he did an excellent job. In all the years that I have lived here I have never been able to receive FM channels clearly there was always lots of static. But with this head unit the HD stations come in clear as a bell I drove through narrow valleys coming back from the installation never heard one pop hits crackle nothing just beautiful music. Comparatively speaking my music is now gorgeous no static just pure music. The Pandora app works great. Tomorrow I'll play with all of the different equalization settings and see how much I can improve the sound.

bought this set after hours of searching on many sites. I wanted to replace the stock Blaupunkt radio in my 1995 Mercedes E320. wow, what a difference this unit makes with the existing speakers. with digital HD tuning and 55 watts the existing speakers sound 300% better. the unit fits perfectly into the stock dashboard. I did have the local MB dealer do the work since i didnt have the time to do it myself. there were also no instructions included in the box from Crutchfield. the unit includes an excellent bluetooth mic and easily connects with our iphones. CD's sound great and the Pandora connection is a great benefit. and there is an app to download where you or the passenger can control all the features of the unit from their phone. its even easier from the phone than the unit itself. the display is clear all the time. bc this vehicle is a convertible I wanted it to be seen with the top down and it is very visible. the USB feature allows you to connect to an iphone to play Ipod music. for Android users the connection is wireless. but either way the quality of sound is fantastic. and the BT connection works very well. callers can hear very clearly. the volume will decrease when a call comes in. Our E320 has been transferred from the dark ages to the current by this Sony unit. I would highly recommend it as a quality and full featured upgrade to a stock radio.

Pros: lots of features, sounds fantastic, eliminates the need for new speakers, love the App.

Cons: no instructions came with the unit. remote CD changers will no longer work, lots of commands to learn. read the user guide.

The menu isn't the most intuitive thing to navigate but with a little patience and a couple of calls to Crutchfield you can figure it out without reaching for a hammer. Still figuring out the sound settings.

I was looking for: HD tuner Clock display Bluetooth phone and streaming Front & back USB At least one control knob Station select buttons Dimmable panel at night Operator manual is a little lax, but I figured out the operations. Audio is excellent all the way to max volume, without distortion. Clock display is excellent, large enough to read. I like the display options, I use bright amber/yellow during the day, dark red at night. The Call button is glaringly bright- I put tape over it. The station select buttons are black in a black background, no contrast. I'll paint 'em white. Phone connection works great, streaming functions, usb, etc., all work great. Happy to see: rotary knob encloses the push button Enter button, but won't activate it. No worry about pushing on the rotary knob and activating the center button by mistake.

    Pros: (as described)

Cons: Bright Call button a distraction Station select buttons hard to locate while driving Easy to push adjacent buttons while tuning radio, end up changing Source instead.

I have had several different brand stereos, prior to this one I used the Sony with the built in tray for an ipod, the sound quality from the Sony stereo is far superior to others I have had. This model does it all it takes a few minutes to figure out all the goodies but after that it is awesome. For me there is no comparison. Sony will always be my go to stereo. The durability is very good I use these stereos on my Harley. Great Great Great is all I can say

    Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

This was to replace my stock Head Unit in my 2009 Honda S2000. I wanted the thing to fit, work well with dash controls, and match the color of the cars display. I got it all. I did use a Modifry (specific to S2000) harness and DCI control to interface with the car seamlessly. I used Posi-tap and Posi-lock for the connections. Connected the 'speed' wire for variable volume control. It all went together as advertised. I did not have to solder or cut wires to fit. The S2000 has a snug opening but it all went it. I used the old stock head unit's side brackets on the new Sony so the fit and installation was perfect. I downloaded the Sony app on my Note 4 (T-Mobile) and linked it according to directions. That was it. Worked perfectly the first time. With the S2000 the Head unit is hidden most of the time behind a console door but that is what I want as the dash controls work as well as it interfaces with the Note 4. I leave the Sony on all the time. When I start the car, the Sony connects with the Note 4 bringing up the menu or last played song (paused even with Pandora). I just hit the play on the phone and away I go. The Note has an easy menu for the radio, CD, or whatever. You can add any app (Spotify, Pandora, etc) that is on your mobile and kick it over to the Sony app in include in the play menu. Slick. Hands free phone is great, good mic pickup and sound, even with the convertible top down. The sound is very good, makes the stock speakers come alive. Very pleased with it

Pros: Ease of installation and use. Pretty much automatic. No bugs. Great sound. Lots of sound control/audio options. Nice app.

    Cons: None discovered.

Pros: Very colorful (if you want it that way). Charges my Iphone 4s when it's plugged into it. Works well with Iheart radio and Pandora, although I haven't quite figured out the Pandora app yet...but it's probably just me.

I have had this deck for about 5 months. The sound quality depends on how you shape it.This unit has more features than will be used by me. This is by far the best car stereo that Sony has put out. The HD radio is big on sound if you dial it in. You really should read the instructions to really get the best sound. Play around with untill it sounds right. This unit took longer to learn but it was worth it. Hooks up to my phone and tablet with no problems.

My only complaint about this radio is the slightly high price. However, I recommend it even with the price premium as Sony has a good track record and Crutchfield's customer service is unbeatable. I was concerned about some of the complaints about functionality noted in other reviews, but at least on my unit there were no issues. One review mentioned that the head unit does not support RDS. On mine you simply have to cycle through display options if you want RDS info to display by default. Another reviewer complained that you have to cycle through inputs by pressing the source button repeatedly. I thought this was the case but found that you can press source once and then use the volume dial to cycle through inputs more quickly. Additionally, using the same display changing button as for the RDS, you can force the clock to display even when music is playing. While the menu interface is complex at first, I found it to be an efficient organization structure once I actually read the manual. Installation for my particular vehicle had a few odd points which I got hung up on (required additional filter and running 12v power wire), but overall was pretty straightforward. The included documentation is good and my wiring harness was color coded which I hadn't anticipated. In conclusion: Read The Manual if you think a feature does not exist.

Pros: -Vastly improved audio quality, even with same OEM speakers -Variable color illumination is nice to match car interior -Seek function is extremely fast to jump from station to station -HD Radio is a huge improvement over FM

Cons: -Would prefer longer wiring harness -You are likely to need to spend some time with the manual to understand the functionality

I assembled it without any issues. The wiring harness from Crutchfield makes the installation so easy. I spent some extra time running the microphone wire and the rear USB cable so they were nicely concealed. Took it on a long road trip this weekend and tried all of the features. I love all of the different ways to connect to the radio with phones or mp3 players. I still need to figure more for the bluetooth connection. It connected via bluetooth to my phone immediately after pairing with NFC. The sound quality was perfect and it was great being able to control Pandora and phone calls through the radio. But I ran into some other strange issues with my phone. I have some prototype software that might not work well with the radio. I'll try with a production phone and software to verify that it all works well.

Pros: Every connection method ever wanted (bluetooth, auxilary, usb front and rear).

Cons: Takes time to learn the controls and features.

Replaced another, older Sony head unit, so no surprises. Could have used a little more wire on the harness. Only glitch was when I plugged the mike into the wired remote plug in the rear of the unit by accident and it put it in some type of rolling demo mode that wouldn't play. After I figured out what I did wrong & unplugged it, the unit worked like a charm. Some of the other reviews had issues with the I-Phone, I had no connectivity issues at all. After the initial connect, it auto-connects every time I get in the car.

    Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I needed a new head unit for my 2006 LJ, one that would play mp3 and wma files and supported USB external devices; and one that would support hands-free telephony. Only a few had both a rear and front USB port, so I selected Sony based upon it's long history of providing personal tunes. The sound quality is excellent and it utilizes the sub-woofer already in the Jeep. The ease of use gets a lower rating because the buttons are so small. That's the trend in head units these days, but it makes it almost impossible to hit the right button whilst the Jeep is moving. It would have been lower, except for the fact that the unit comes with a remote that has larger buttons. Coolness factor - who cares? Build quality is good, but the means of attaching the head unit to the mounting 'cage' is lame (bend some tabs) and doesn't work very well. Finally, the instructions were very good, but neglected to mention that the microphone plus into the back; something nice to know while installing it.

Pros: Great sound, plays all of my tunes, supports USB with both a front and rear port, easy to pair with my phone, and has a detachable faceplate. I would buy it again. The stuff Crutchfield includes for installation is perfec.

Cons: Setting all of the options for this unit takes some time and study. Also, the menu structure and selection process is very confusing.

The MEX-GS810BH is superb. I purchased this unit to replace the OEM radio in my 2001 Yukon as it was highly ranked (at or near the top) in all user and blog reviews. I was blown away by the sound and ease of use. My iPhone 4S links immediately upon entering my vehicle and the pairing was super easy. The manual is very straight forward and easy to follow. I had a problem with the display changing colors and various key words appearing but realized it had to be in Demo mode. Quickly checked the manual found solution and turned off Demo mode. The sound is superb. I knew it was there, but until now never really heard my subwoofer. My Coldplay Ghost Stories store CD sounds amazing and burned CD sounds almost as good. My SiriusXM talk and music don't play nearly as well but that is most likely the nature of the signal. I have a Sirius stand-alone unit and do not take advantage of the SiriusXM internal capabilities of the MEX. I am hopeful that if I connect the Sirius receiver through the AUX input the sound will be better. Furthermore, I am not using the equalizer at all. The SONY preset sound settings are wonderful. I made and received calls the day I installed the unit. Answering a call is one button away as is hanging up. The voice recognition works very well when requesting a name on your phone to call. Sound quality of speech for the phone is top notch. may buy another unit for my 2002 Saab. This was my third Crutchfield install and not my last. High recommend.

Cons: Does not connect to newer iPhones. Clock does not display when unit is playing

This replaced the stock radio in a crown vic police interceptor. Installation was pretty straightforward, it took me two calls and two online videos to get it in place properly the first time. Lots of adjustable settings in this one. It allowed me to set the back pair of 6x9s up like a subwoofer and to fill in the slope with the new 5x7s up front. Power was used efficiently. Streaming music over bluetooth was great, the wider bandwidth in the newer version of bluetooth sounded great. jetAudio Plus for Android has the Bongiovi DSP available, I have been waiting a couple years for this to come out. With the combination of settings available I was able to make Death Magnetic sound awesome. I'm new to using bluetooth so it's taking a little getting used to. That's the reason for the three star Ease of Use. It's probably just that I haven't figured it out yet. I still don't know how to print from my phone, either. That said, I sat in a parking lot with the manual and got the sound configured the way I like it in about 20 minutes using more settings than I have ever seen on a car or home stereo before. The display is super-cheesy bling in this shifting rainbow color scheme. Fortunately, there is a way to pick a color. It allows you to set one color for day (such as bright blue/white) and another at night (dark red, for example) so you don't ruin your night vision.

Pros: They're packing a lot of computer power in this rig. It complements the capabilities of a phone very nicely. I see that there are navigator receivers with a touchscreen that play DVDs... but that can all be replaced by your phone today. I suppose there are things this head unit doesn't do, but I don't really care. It meets the 80/20 rule and then some. The price is right for me. It's very expandable with the 5V outputs. I am completely satisfied with the sound quality and features.

Cons: Supposedly it has a CD player in it.

For audio upgrade project I needed and advanced head unit that allows for the radio to be controlled by my Google Nexus 7. I also wanted to be able to use my phone at the same time. Replacing my head unit in my 2004 VW R32 is years in the making. I was able to install the head unit in the glove box and using the PAC interface connect to my stock amp and speakers. The radio sounds great. The app remote software allows me to control the radio, Pandora etc. The added bonus is the ability to also have a voice profile just for my phone allowing me to download my phone book and use voice commands to dial calls. It takes some time to understand the controls and program the unit but once you do, you will have a smile ear to ear.

Pros: DSP allows to configure the unit for the best listening experience. Two USB ports allowed to connect my tablet and USB flash drive. The app remote software allows for added controls as I am using my tablet as the head unit to drive the radio. Easily expand to add a subwoofer and additional equipment via the rca jacks in the rear. The radio comes w a microphone.

Cons: A bit hard to configure all the settings via the radio, the app. Remote does not allow you to program all the featurea , you still need to do some tasks through the head unit.

I was upgrading from a previous Sony car stereo because I wanted to add Bluetooth capabilities, handsfree, and HD Radio plus XM satellite to my car. This radio absolutely fits the bill and was an awesome improvement to my sound system in my car. HD Radio sensitivity is really good with this radio, plus it has more station memory capabilities in that it allows you to save secondary HD stations. The color spectrum available is amazing! You can pretty much make your color anything you want. The controls will take some getting used to since many of the menus are layered. Once you get the hang of it, things will go much easier. The sound quality is exceptional and offers more control than previous models. This unit really does it all: Radio, XM, CD, Bluetooth, and 2 USB connections! It can access your phone and play music from Pandora or off of your playlist. For the price, this radio does give you great bang for the buck! I highly recommend it!

Pros: Great sound and the radio covers everything: CD, HD Radio, XM, USB, Bluetooth

Cons: Layered menus can be a little confusing and will take some practice

Great sound and features. I wanted all the features this supplies. I usually like 2 DIN units and although my 98 F150 looks like it can take a 2 Din unit there is not enough room over the top to install a 2 DIN. I chose this unit between this and a Kenwood. I chose this unit because it had a better equalizer. My other main concerns were HD Radio, BT, frond USB, front Aux Jack, and possible future expansion to XM.

Pros: Meets or exceeds most of my needs. Was easy to install and the things that Crutchfield sends with them make it look professionally installed. It took me less than an hour to install and if you take away the time I spent connecting the wires to the jacks in the dash and running the microphone cabling it would have taken me about 5 minutes to completely install.

Cons: One complaint is that the setup menu seems a bit difficult to navigate and some of the main menu items seem a bit ambiguous. My only other complaint is that Crutchfield might provide a bit better overview of how to connect the power and speaker connections . It took me a while to realize that the single main connection into the old stereo actually split into two connection kind of hidden from view. So it might just be a case of me bad.

    Built-in Bluetooth

Bluetooth Technology: The Sony MEX-GS810BH is equipped with built-in Bluetooth (version 3.0), allowing you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your smartphone to the head unit. In order to use Bluetooth wireless technology, your phone must also be Bluetooth compatible and be able to interpret certain profiles. This unit is compatible with the following Bluetooth Profiles:

    • Hands-Free Communication: HFP 1.6 (Hands Free Profile), PBAB 1.0 (Phone Book Access Profile).
    • Audio Streaming: A2DP 1.3 (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile), AVRCP 1.5 (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile).
Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the Sony MEX-GS810BH. Please visit Sony eSupport for a complete list of compatible Bluetooth enabled phones.

Simple Pairing: With Secure Simple Pairing (SSP), you can easily pair a Bluetooth enabled phone to the Sony MEX-GS810BH without having to enter pin codes or go through complicated settings. You can register up to nine Bluetooth enabled devices with the Sony head unit and keep two devices connected at all times (only one can be used at a time). Once paired, the MEX-GS810BH will automatically re-connect to your device when in close proximity. The head unit also offers unique pairing for Android and iPhone smartphone to make Bluetooth pairing even easier.

    • Near Field Communication (for Android): Android (OS 4.0+) smartphones that have Near Field Communication (NFC) pair simply by touching the Android device's NFC tag to the head unit's NFC tag on it rotary-knob. For older Android smartphones with OS 4.0 or lower, download the NFC Easy Connect app from Google Play to use the head unit's NFC pairing function.
    • USB Pairing (for iPhone): You can pair your Apple iPhone (iOS 5.0+) by simply connecting it to the Sony head unit via USB and activating the Bluetooth function on your Apple device.

Hands-Free Communication w/ External Mic: The Sony MEX-GS810BH supports Bluetooth hands-free communication for your Bluetooth enabled cell-phone (such as your iPhone or Android smartphone). Bluetooth hands-free communication helps to minimize distraction while driving by allowing you to control your mobile phone from the head unit, so you don't have to touch your mobile phone. The controls of the MEX-GS810BH can be used to dial a number, answer an in-coming call, or end a call. The unit also features an external microphone (featuring adjustable gain), so you can carry on your side of the conversation while listening to the caller through your vehicles speakers. And thanks to the latest Hands-Free Profile (HFP 1.6) with wideband speech capability, the MEX-N600BH provides more natural sound quality and details during wireless calls. During a conversation, you can switch between the Private Mode (talking directly on your cell phone) and the Hands Free Mode.

    • Answering Calls: Incoming calls can be answered manually or automatically (between 3-10 seconds) through the Sony head unit, while the ring tone is output from your car speakers and the caller's name or phone number is displayed on the head unit's LCD. Incoming calls can also be rejected if desired.
    • Dialing a Number: Using the MEX-GS810BH, you can dial a phone number in one of the following ways.
      • Entering Phone #: Allows you to manually dial a phone number using the unit's control dial.
      • Preset Dial: You can store up to 6 contacts in the preset dial for quick dialing.
      • Phone Book: You can store up to 1,000 contacts in the unit's phone book. Up to a 40 character name can be input for each contact.
      • Call History: The unit will store the last 20 calls, allowing you to select a previous phone number quickly from the list.
      • Voice Dial: You can make a call using the voice tags stored on your connected cellular phone.
      • Redial: Use to easily redial the last number you called.
Note: The external wired microphone offers improved audio quality versus an integrated microphone, so you can be heard easier over noisy traffic and road noise. You can adjust the level of the microphone without affecting the other sources. The external microphone features an attached 11' cable terminated by a right-angle 3.5mm connector which plugs into the mic input on the rear-panel of the head unit. The microphone comes with a mounting bracket which can be clipped to your vehicle's sun-visor or taped to your dash. The external microphone measures 0.525" (diameter) x 1.515" (depth).

Wireless Audio Streaming (w/ Advanced Music Navigation): The Sony MEX-GS810BH can stream stored music and music apps from your Bluetooth A2DP/AVRCP mobile device (such as your iPhone or Android smartphone). In addition to basic playback functions (Play/Pause, FF/RW, Skip, Random/Repeat) for both stored music and music apps, the MEX-GS810BH provides a Search List of your stored music by Category or Playlist (AVRCP 1.4 phones only; which includes Android 4.0+ and iPhone 5.0+). The head unit will also display device's stored music and music app song information; such as Artist name & Song/Album title.

Note: When an incoming call or outgoing call is in progress from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, audio streaming will be paused so you can take your call. Once the call is finished, your streaming music will resume.

Siri Eyes Free Control: When paired and connected to an iPhone with Siri via Bluetooth (not USB), the Sony MEX-GS810BH has the ability to access Siri through its front-panel control and external microphone. Simply activate the "voice dial" function on the MEX-GS810BH to engage Siri and use the included microphone to communicate with Siri. Siri's voice will heard through your vehicle's speakers. All Siri functions including hands-free calling, music search, setting reminders, text-messaging, audible navigation, and more can be done through the head unit and its microphone. You can even ask Siri to get directions to a destination and the turn-by-turn instructions will heard through your vehicle's speakers, while the on-screen map still displays on your iPhone with Siri. The head unit's audio is attenuated while Siri provides audible directions.

Note: The head unit will only display hands-free calling and Bluetooth audio information (all other functions of Siri are only audible through the MEX-GS810BH ; visual data will still need to be viewed from your iPhone device).

    Disc & USB Playback

Disc Compatibility: The unit features a single disc player that will playback CD-Audio and finalized CD-R/CD-RW audio discs. The unit supports the playback of MP3/WMA music files on a CD-R or CD-RW disc.

    HD+Pandora+SiriusXM Radio

Built-in HD Radio Tuner: The integrated HD Radio tuner receives compatible AM and FM radio stations signals in digital format for improved sound quality while providing metadata information and iTunes Music Tagging so that you can find the songs you like later. HD Radio technology, where available, offers higher quality sound than conventional analog broadcasts and receives text data. HD Radio provides FM broadcasts that are equal to CD sound quality and AM broadcasts that are as good as analog FM stereo broadcasts. Right now there are about 2,000 radio stations broadcasting using digital HD Radio technology in the U.S. To find HD Radio stations in your area, visit the HD Radio website (www.hdradio.com).

    • Station Text: HD Radio provides a variety of data; including station name, song title, artist name, album name, etc.

    • Preset Tuning: The radio features 6 memory bands to store and receive analog and digital AM/FM stations. You can store up to 6 presets each in FM1, FM2, FM3, AM1 and AM2 (total: 18 FM/12 AM). Preset tuning can be done manually or automatically.
      • Best Tuning Memory (BTM): This feature selects stations with the best signals within the selected band and stores them in order of their frequency. You can select from FM1, FM2, FM3, AM1, and AM2.
      • Manual Tuning: You can manually tune and find your favorite radio stations one by one for FM1, FM2, FM3, AM1, and AM2.
    • iTunes Tagging: The iTunes Tag button on this unit allows you to tag songs (up to 50) you like that are broadcast by HD Radio stations. Information about these tagged songs is stored by the receiver and transferred to your connected iPod/iPhone. When you connect your iPod to your computer, iTunes automatically presents songs in a new "Tagged" playlist so you can preview, purchase, and download them.
Note: In addition to HD AM/FM stations, the MEX-GS810BH can also receive conventional analog AM/FM broadcasts.

Your Android or BlackBerry smartphone must be connected via Bluetooth to the Sony MEX-GS810BH (no hard-wired connection required); your Bluetooth-enabled Android or BlackBerry smartphone must have the latest version of the Pandora App from the Android Market or the BlackBerry App World. Your Android or BlackBerry smartphone must also support A2DP, AVRCP, and SPP Bluetooth profiles. Your iPhone, Android, or BlackBerry smartphone will need an active Data Plan account with connection to the Internet via 3G, EDGE, or WiFi. In addition, you will need an active Pandora music service account. Audio Section

Dynamic Reality Amp: The redesigned, internal Dynamic Reality Amp circuitry boasts 47% lower internal resistance compared to conventional in-dash receiver, delivering 55 watts x 4 channels of Peak power to your vehicle's speakers. This allows you to crank up the volume while maintaining low distortion, low noise levels, and smooth frequency response. The power output specs for the MEX-GS810BH are as follows:

    • Continuous Power Output: 17 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
    • Peak Power Output: 55 watts x 4-channels (220 total watts)

Note: The power specifications for the Sony MEX-GS810BH are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers.

6ch/5V Preamp Outputs + Sub Control: The Sony MEX-GS810BH is equipped with 5-volt Front, Rear, & Sub pre-amp outputs giving you the ability to connect external amplifiers to your car stereo system. The unit's subwoofer preamp output is non-fading. The subwoofer preamp output features a low pass filter with a selectable cut-off frequency of 50Hz, 60Hz, 80Hz, 100Hz, 120Hz, or Off. You can also adjust the slope (1/2/3) of the low-pass crossover. You can even adjust the subwoofer preamp output's volume level independently from the head unit's volume control from -10 to +10 in 1dB increments. In addition, you can select the phase of the subwoofer output from Normal or Reverse.

Note: You can connect a subwoofer to this head unit without the need of a separate power amplifier. Simply connect a single subwoofer (4-8 ohm) directly to head unit's left or right rear speaker leads (but not both). Same subwoofer controls apply.

High-Pass Filter: The front & rear speaker outputs offer a selectable high-pass crossover frequency of 50Hz, 60Hz, 80Hz, 100Hz, 120Hz, or Off. You can also adjust the slope (1/2/3) of the high-pass crossover.

Advanced Sound Engine: Sony's Advanced Sound Engine creates an ideal in-car sound field with digital signal processing. Advanced Sound Engine contains the following features: EQ10, ClearAudio+, Listening Position, Rear Bass Enhancer (RBE), Digital Sound Enhancement Engine (DSEE), Advanced Auto Volume (AAV), and Loudness.

    • EQ10 w/ ClearAudio+: R&B, Rock, Pop, Dance, Hip-Hop, Electronic, Jazz, Soul, Country, Custom, or Off (Flat). The Custom mode allows you to make your own equalizer settings. You can adjust the level (+/-6dB) of 10 different frequency bands - Band1 (32Hz), Band2 (63Hz), Band3 (125Hz), Band4 (250Hz), Band5 (500Hz), Band6 (1khz), Band7 (2khz), Band8 (4kHz), Band9 (8kHz), and Band10 (16kHz).
    • Listening Position: This unit can change the localization of sound by delaying the sound output from each speaker to suit your position, and simulate a natural sound field with the feeling of being in the center of it wherever you sit in the car. You can choose from Front Right, Front Left, Front Center, or Off. You can also set the subwoofer distance of the subwoofer to Near, Normal, or Far
    • Rear Bass Enhancer (RBE): RBE enhances the bass sound by applying the low-pass filter setting to the rear speakers. This function allows the rear speakers to work as a subwoofer even if there is no subwoofer connected.
    • Digital Sound Enhancement Engine (DSEE): DSEE improves digitally compressed music files by restoring high frequencies lost in the compression process.
    • Advanced Auto Volume (AAV) + Loudness: This feature adjusts the playback volume level of all playback sources to the optimum level. Loudness reinforces bass and treble for clear sound at low volume levels.

Beep Tone: The in-dash head unit provides an audible beep to confirm button operation. This function can be turned On or Off.

    Display Features

Detachable Face w/ Caution Alarm: The Sony MEX-GS810BH features a detachable face for theft prevention. If you turn the ignition switch to the Off position without detaching the head unit's front-panel, the caution alarm will sound for a few seconds. The alarm will only sound if the unit's built-in amplifier is used. No face case is included with this unit. An optional soft face case (142DFC1X, sold separately) can be purchased for this unit. A face-fixing screw is supplied for making the face non-detachable, if desired.

Dynamic Color Illuminator (35,000 colors): Dynamic Color Illuminator lets you match the head unit's LCD & button illumination to complement your existing vehicle lighting components. With selectable Sound Synchronization, the timing of the color change is synchronized with the audio source. You can select from 12 preset colors (red/amber/m-amber/yellow/white/light green/green/light blue/sky blue/blue/purple/pink), customized color (R-G-B), & 5 preset patterns (rainbow/ocean/sunset/forest/random). The unit's Dynamic Color Illuminator offers the following advance features.

    • Day/Night Color Mode: You can register a customize color for the unit's display and buttons for day & night time driving.
    • Sound Synchronization: The color changes according to synchronization of playing music. When you select a preset pattern sound synchronization becomes effective.
    • White Menu: You can display the menu more clearly (White text) without concern for the unit's other color settings.
    • Start White: When you power-on the head unit, the color of the unit's display and buttons turn white and then the color changes to your chosen customize color. You can enjoy this effect whenever the source is turned on.
Note: To change the brightness of the display you can set the MEX-GS810BH to one of three dimmer modes; Dimmer Auto (dims the display automatically when you turn your vehicle's lights on), Dimmer Off (deactivates the dimmer), and Dimmer On (display always dim).

Auto Scroll: The Auto Scroll feature allows long displayed items to scroll automatically across the display when the track is changed on a disc.

Display Illumination/Clock Display: Pressing the Source/Off button once will switch sources. Pressing and holding the Source/Off button for one second will turn off audio output, but the clock display and button illumination remain on. To turn the unit off completely, you must press and hold the Source/Off button for two seconds.

Auto Off: When installing in a vehicle without an accessory power wire at the radio location, you can set the unit to turn off all lighting a set amount of time after you turn the power off. The Auto Off feature can be set to 30 seconds, 30 minutes, 60 minutes, or No.

Demo Mode: The head unit's demo mode can be turned On or Off.

    Remote Control

App Remote Technology: Sony's App Remote Technology offers two-way communication between the Sony MEX-GS810BH and your USB-connected iPhone (iOS 5+) or Bluetooth-paired Android smartphone (2.1-2.3 Froyo/Gingerbread, Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0-4.2). You will need to download the free Sony App Remote application from the Apple App Store or the Google Play App Store. This application integrates compatible Apple iOS and Android apps into the selectable source list of the Sony CD receiver and lets you launch apps from the head unit. You can operate basic functionality of compatible audio apps directly from the receiver (operation differs depending on the app). Movie and navigation apps will continue to be controlled from your smartphone. In addition, you can control the receiver's sources directly from the application on your smartphone using simple finger gestures and see detailed source information on the phone's touchscreen.

You can use finger gestures to tap, flick left/right, or flick up/down on the phone's touchscreen in order to change AM/FM Band, Play/Pause a track, Seek Up/Down a track or station, select a Preset, or access an Album. The map screen will display on your smartphone's touchscreen, while audible directions can be heard through your vehicle's speakers. You can continue to listen to music streamed from your smartphone while navigating; the unit will attenuate your music during a navigation voice-prompt. Control of the navigation apps will still be done through your smartphone's touchscreen. Fees may apply for some navigation apps & functions.
    • Voice Communication + Notification Readout (Android only): Exclusive to Android devices, App Remote technology for the MEX-GS810BH head unit adds a voice user interface for voice control of apps and functions such as navigation and music playback, notification readouts including RSS feeds, Twitter, and text message reply. Through voice operation, you can safely and comfortably operate your smartphone in the car from the Sony MEX-GS810BH CD receiver. Incoming SMS/E-mail and Twitter/Facebook/Calendar notifications are automatically read aloud through the MEX-GS810BH and your vehicle's speakers to keep you in touch.
    • Custom Sound Settings: From your Android smartphone remote screen, you get access to audio & DSP settings (Equalizer, Volume Control, Fader/Balance/Subwoofer, and Listening Position).
Note: Access to the music, movie, and navigation apps will depend on the availability of a cellular and/or WiFi network for purposes of allowing your iPhone to connect to the Internet.

Steering Wheel Remote Compatibility: The head unit features an OEM steering wheel remote control input on the rear of the unit that lets you keep your vehicle's factory radio steering wheel remote controls when used with an optional steering wheel audio control adapter (sold separately).

Gives me all the functions I need and it was on sale for $119.00. I wanted the Alpine but settled on this H/U plus I am adding the compact Alpine amp to get the improved SQ you get with Alpine. Also, this unit has a better FM tuner which is what I listen to most. [ Robert  Jun 11, 2018 ]

Many of the specifications of this unit are better than other products in a similar or even higher price range. I was looking to purchase an Alpine with all the same features, but this unit matched or exceeded the Alpines in a similar price range in each of these categories: -USB Ports Front and Rear -HD Radio Built-In -5 volt Preamp Outputs -10 EQ Bands -Wireless Remote Included -3 Years Parts and Labor Warranty [ Sean  Jun 03, 2018 ]
