Even with our odd shaped room, the auto setup left us with really great sound. I'm impressed with the fullness of the sound. The sub is probably necessary. We used the HT-A9 for a couple days till the sub arrived, and it did sound good. The sub does help a great deal with the low end. I really wanted to use the eArc thru the TV (LG) with my AppleTV 4K but had to plug the HDMI into the HDMI port on the back of the HT-A9. Just could not get sound when running it thru the TV. I works fine using the HDMI port, but turning on the TV, AppleTV and HT-A9 requires extra steps.
Pros: Great sound Simple setup
Cons: AppleTV 4K must be hooked directly to HT A9 Extra steps to turn everything on

I've been having a very fun and immersive time playing PS5 games and watching various movies. Playing music is also quite enjoyable filling up the whole room nicely, but as expected tonally, especially the midrange, it's a notable step down from my previous 2.1 setup with my KEF floorstanding speakers. I will keep my old stereo setup for critical music listening. The overhead Atmos effects are quite adequate. Setup was super easy and very adaptable to different placements, just be sure to have the hub out in the open and be mindful of nearby electronics, especially routers that could interfere with the 5ghz wireless signal. People who are getting audio signal dropouts need to either turn off or adjust your home router's 5ghz channel to something higher like 149 and up to steer far away. Initially I found the phantom center speaker lacking with my front speakers 15 feet apart like my rear speakers but after I toed in the fronts the center came in loud and clear. My only complaint is the hub should have more than one HDMI input. Adding their wireless subwoofer is a no brainer if you want to experience the system's full potential, and you might as well because the total package is well priced for what you're getting in 2021.
Pros: Super easy to set up and very flexible speaker placement. No speaker cables makes the room a lot tidier. Well priced even after adding the sub, for a faux 7.1.4 system.
Cons: Just having 1 HDMI input is a bummer. No subwoofer out so you're forced to buy Sony's wireless subwoofer.

the sound is amazing. but one has to definitely get the subwoofer to fully experience what this system is capable off. the packaging was very bad for the price i paid but so far this has amazed me.
