A great purchase
Jason from ATLANTA, GA on 11/19/2019
We have this set up in a dark media room and the picture is fantastic and over 125 inches on a flat wall with no screen. Our friends are blown away by the picture quality. We have had it for two years and have noticed no change in picture quality over that time. A fantastic product.

Terrific projector
Gary from Fleming Island, FL on 1/12/2019
Improvements in projector technology over the past 14 years are so amazing that if I didn't experience it myself I wouldn't believe it possible. This Sony cost about 40% of my 14 year old Optoma did (without price inflation) and the image from this Sony is simply amazing. I was considering a true 4K model but I didn't want to deal with running a new 35 foot fiber optic hdmi through my walls then into the attic and drop down to the projector. So, I picked up this one and am I glad I did. The color is amazing, focus is sharp and being 1080p I don't run into band issues using my old style HDMI cable. If you have an older projector and you're considering a new projector but are concerned about value, don't be. This projector is amazing and will reveal images that are colorful, dynamic, full of contrast and bright. My setup is in a light controlled dedicated theater room projecting onto a 104 brilliant white screen and a projection distance of 15 feet.
Pros: Sony has great out of box calibration Simple setup No bandwidth complications with long run HDMI cables 3D capable
Cons: It's not a DLP machine so you'll have to be attentive to filter changes and it "may" be sensitive to dusty environments. Not the brightest projector on the planet, more than enough for me and but it's definately not going to provide a beautiful 120 inch images in a well lit room. But it just as good as a good cinema when you darken the room.

It's all about the picture: SONY dominates AGAIN!!!
Satvinder from Bellevue, WA on 12/11/2017
I have this ceiling mounted using a black Peerless universal mount (made is USA!!!) Picture is phenomenal. Black levels excellent. Have set this up in a completely light controlled theater room: even with low lamp mode, picture and color POP for that cinema experience. The reason for 4 stars is it lacks the ability to receive software updates from LAN connection and not having an automatic lens focus. It could also lose some bulk: not sure why it has to be so big. That said, in the end, it's all about the image, and for that, SONY hits in OUT of the park AGAIN! This blows away movies I go see in the theater with my family. If only "in theaters now" could instead be "streaming now...." It's coming people, and I can't wait to never go out for a movie again! Save yourself lots an lots and lots of grief and $$$. This is so good, SKIP the 4K for $5000 until 4k costs $1500 (I mean, once 1080 p came out, how many of us ever thought we would ever hold our for or want somthing evenbette? 1080 p on a BluRay is spectacular and even VUDU and NetFlix on my Roku 3 are outstanding.
Pros: Picture, Picture, Picture
Cons: No LAN update software No Autofocus

John from Buda, TX on 11/20/2017
Great projector! Beautiful picture right out of the box but tons of options for tweaking if that's your thing. My friend, a hard core videophile, helped with the installation and left just a little jealous that his projector at twice the price wasn't as beautiful to watch. Crutchfield customer service was awesome and shipping was fast. Very happy!
Pros: Fantastic reputation, sxrd technology is solid. Great spot on the price/value curve.
Cons: All the pre-installed setting are brighter than I'm used to

The projector has great black detail and plenty of lumens in our theater room. It also has mechanical lens shift capability meaning the projector stays setup for your room. The fan is also the quietest we found In this price range.

Let me first start by saying that the customer service at Crutchfield was incredible! Speaking to a live person in this day and age was a shocker and speaking to a live person that actually is friendly and helpful, was unbelievable. I can honestly say that I wish I knew about their level of customer service before.
Pros: Awesome picture. Extremely bright and clear. I replaced an old JVC projector and I was hesitant to switch brands but I'm so happy I did.
Cons: None but I don't have a comparison between the pic quality of Sony's 4k line

Outstanding color and black levels without Auto-Iris noise
Dylan from Princeton, NJ on 3/7/2017
I bought this projector as a replacement for an Epson 705HD, an older 720p projector. It is set up in a completely dark home theater space, projecting onto a high contrast silver ticket 100" gray screen. I was expecting to see a difference but the improvement in image quality was really amazing. My 8 year old daughter noticed immediately that the colors were much more vibrant and natural, less faded. The blacks are much darker, with greater detail. Out of the box the projector was too bright for my environment, but calibration was quick and easy using a calibration Blu-Ray disc. I have the projector on low lamp and 60 percent brightness for an astounding full spectrum image. I turned off the various reality creation and motion blur adjustments to be able to watch the direct Blu-ray video signal and the experience is wonderfully cinematic. Recently I went to watch a blockbuster action movie in the theater and was immediately disappointed by the projection (as well as the sound). Previously, while I enjoyed watching my home projector, there was a still a compromise with respect to the perceptual experience when watching big blockbusters. The technology has come along to the point, where the home experience is now on par, and far more comfortable. Best purchase I have made in a long time.
Pros: Beautiful picture. Quiet.
Cons: Bulky. No motorized lens shift or focus (manual).

Projector was easy to install and get up and running. One button brings up a special graphic for lining up the projector with the screen and was quick and easy to do. It has a nice picture and is very quiet. Works well with my receiver and different sources without any glitches. I haven't had time to do a more complete calibration yet, but it seems to be everything I was hoping for in a new projector.

Best 1080p projector out in the market today!
charles h. from guam on 10/1/2016
Coming off of an epson 50X0 after succumbing to the dreaded "cinema filter error" common to most of epson's 50X0 & 60X0 series lines (just what the heck does the "cinema filter" actually do? No other brand name 3-LCD panel projector out there (that i know of) uses a "cinema filter". Don't misunderstand me, I admire epson's DESIGN & ENGINEERING when it comes to their projectors; but its their MANUFACTURING of those projectors I have come to disdain and suspect---using shortcuts NEVER ends up well :)), Back to reviewing my 45es; I am extremely impressed by this marvel of a projector. Even without a dynamic iris (which i thought at the time is integral for rendering terrific blacks) my 45es produces blacks matching and even (dare i say it) surpassing what my old epson ever did. Motionflow (CFI) on my 45es even outperformed my old epson's CFI processing. Sony's SXRD tech (LCoS) also outclasses epson's 3LCD tech in the sharpness department----epson's 3LCD tech suffers from SDE (pixel structure) in copious amounts (at close distances to screen) whereas my 45es' SXRD tech is able to minimize the pixel structure to almost imperceptible levels even at close distances to screen producing an extremely sharp and "film-like" image 100 inches huge. Furthermore, my 45es is a light cannon--it is even brighter than my old epson. My 45es' images are so bright its like i'm watching an 100-inch LED tv on my wall----my 45es really IS THAT AMAZING! Sony hw45es rules, y'all (drops mike). :)
Pros: Terrific blacks (even without a dynamic iris). Motionflow (CFI) is so much better than my old epson. Reality Creation produces an extremely sharp and film-like image breathing new life into your library of movies.. Configuration menus are intuitive and user-friendly. Color and skintones right-out-of-the-box is impeccably spot on.
Cons: a bit more range on the zoom in (for shorter throw distances) would've been nice

Its Awesome!
Ashok from Frisco, TX on 9/24/2016
The projector is doing wonders. Though I watched 4 movies till date and lots of TV shows. The motion is flawless, there is almost no delay when connected to other devices like, ROKU, laptop or even camera & play content. I am enjoying & very happy that I didn't go for 2013s famous brand and projector. Sony is all about motion, colors, sharpness with respected almost all their devices. Mounting and adjusting to screen and play movie can be done in less than an hour. That means mounting and adjusting to screen is very easy.
Pros: Easy to mount. Easy to adjust screen. Colors are vibrant, motion is flawless, not much heat emission, very quite, and another important factor; price is competitive.
Cons: As such none.

Impressive
Gerald R. from Henderson, KY on 7/27/2016
I bought this projector to replace an Epson projector which I bought about 9 years ago. My old projector was one of the first to use 3 chips instead of 1 and was 1080 P. This new projector is much brighter, with a much sharper image and much better contrast. The improvement is dramatic. I cannot compare it to present projector's that are on sale but considering the price difference between this unit and other projector's which are supposed to be better sold by Sony and Epson I feel that this is a lot of value for the price compared to those other projector's. I am certainly happy with my purchase.
Pros: 1. Plenty of brightness, 2. Quiet fan, 3. Sharp image with good color.
Cons: After using this Projector for a couple of weeks I can Not think of anything negative to say about it.
