Sony's "do-it-all, better" headphones
The Sony MDR-1000X wireless noise-canceling headphones fold up to fit in the included case.
Think of your average work day. Can you (A) multi-task (B) perform at a high level, and (C) look good doing it? I'm usually happy with two out of three. But the Sony MDR-1000X headphones refuse to settle. These over-ears offer cutting-edge, adaptive noise cancellation, high-fidelity sound, and the freedom of Bluetooth. Music and phone calls are delivered wirelessly from your phone or tablet — all controlled by the touch of your finger. Plus these hard-working headphones make it look easy, with a no-nonsense, well-put-together style.
Personalized noise cancellation
Just about every pair of Sony headphones I've tried have been comfortable. They're flexible and padded in a way that feels almost "tailored to you." You'll find that type of physical comfort here, but Sony took personalization one step further with the MDR-1000X. Powerful internal circuitry takes your surroundings into account, then adjusts the level of noise cancellation, too. You can even choose to let in important ambient noise or voices. Sony's "Quick Attention" feature even lets you turn off the noise-canceling technology by simply placing your hand over the right earcup.
Special, aluminum-coated drivers
These headphones are designed to get maximum detail from your music. The 40mm drivers have a strong-yet-light aluminum-coated diaphragm that can respond rapidly and retain its shape, for accurate sound with a clear, detailed midrange. Specially designed vents allow air to pass through, accentuating the bass.
For the best in wireless sound, you can pair them up with the Sony NWZ-A17SLV Hi-Res walkman. Both devices include Sony's LDAC technology, a Bluetooth codec that efficiently streams more data, retaining the musical detail that gives songs their personality.
20 hours of battery life and touch control
When fully charged, you can expect up to 20 hours of wireless listening with noise-cancellation turned on. You can toggle it on and off using the touch-sensitive panel on the right earcup. It also lets you control music, volume, and calls with a simple tap or swipe of your finger. A built-in microphone ensures your phone calls are clear.

Overview: The Sony MDR-1000X Hi-Res stereo wireless headphones combine comfort, wireless convenience, and portability into one package. The headphones have Bluetooth wireless technology, as well as the easy pairing of NFC. Advanced Noise Canceling shuts out ambient sound so you can hear only your music or phone conversation. The plush and soft earpads give you hours of comfort, and provide a wrap-around feel with acoustic sealing for excellent sound quality. The headphones come with a straight audio cable for those times when you can't (or don't want to) go wireless, an airline adapter, a USB charging cable, and a black zippered carrying case.
Bluetooth 4.1: The MDR-1000Xs feature Bluetooth 4.1 to wirelessly deliver crystal clear audio within a range of approximately 30 feet (10 meters). With built-in AAC, SBC, and apt-X codec support, you can stream your favorite music from a compatible digital music player, smartphone, tablet, or computer. It is also compatible with LDAC, a Sony-developed codec that enables the transmission (at up to 990 kbps) of High-Resolution audio over Bluetooth. You can also connect the headphones to two Bluetooth devices simultaneously--one for music listening, and one for making phone calls. The headphones are compatible with the following Bluetooth Profiles: Headset Profile (HSP), Hands-Free Profile (HFP), Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP), and Audio Video Remote Control Profile (AVRCP).
NFC: With compatible Android smartphones (Android 2.3.3 or later), you can pair with the headphones using NFC (Near Field Communication) using the one-touch connection method. By simply touching the device to the "N" mark on the left ear cup, the phone and headphones are instantly connected.
Touch Controls: The headphones have a built-in touch panel on the right ear cup for controlling music playback as well as phone calls. When listening to music, you can swipe forward to skip to next track, or swipe backward to skip to previous (or current), and tap to pause/play. When a call is received, you can double-tap the touch sensor to answer the call, and double-tap again to end the call. If the call was received while you were listening to music, the music will resume automatically after the call.
Noise Canceling: The MDR-1000X headphones feature utilizes Dual Noise Sensor technology with internal and external microphones to detect and offset ambient sound. Low-frequency noise from vehicles, as well as mid- and high-frequently sound, including voices, are dramatically reduced, compared to the previous Sony noise-canceling model.
Automatic AI Noise Canceling: The Automatic AI (Artificial Intelligence) Noise Canceling function offers three levels of noise canceling. The system constantly analyzes the ambient sound, and automatically selects the most effective noise canceling mode. NC Mode A is most effective for reducing noise in an airline cabin. NC Mode B reduces noise mainly heard on a bus or train. NC Mode C cancels environmental sounds typically found in an office, such as air ventilation and office machinery. The Personal NC Optimizer lets you customize the noise canceling to the headphone wearer, analyzing the face shape, hair style, and presence (or absence) of eyeglasses. Pressing the NC button on the left ear cup starts the analyzing process.
Ambient Sound Mode: The Ambient Sound mode lets you hear ambient sound through the microphones embedded in the left and right ear cups, while you listen to music. Pressing the Ambient Sound button (on the left ear cup) once switches to Normal Mode, and allows you to hear sounds, as if you were not wearing headphones. Pressing the button again activates the Voice mode, and allows you to hear sounds in the range of the human voice. This is helpful if you're waiting for boarding announcements at the airport or train station.
Quick Attention Mode: The Quick Attention Mode lets you hear a conversation without removing your headphones. By covering the right ear cup's touch sensor with your hand, the music is instantly turned down and the noise canceling function is turned off. When you wish to resume listening to your music, you can deactivate the Quick Attention mode by removing your hand from the sensor.
Digital Sound Enhancement Engine: When music is compressed (MP3, AAC, WMA, etc.), some of the high frequencies are lost, and the music sounds dull. Sony's Digital Sound Enhancement Engine HX (DSEE HX) restores the lost frequencies and takes them closer to High-Resolution Audio, producing rich, natural-sounding music.
Drivers: The MDR-1000Xs have newly-developed 40mm HD driver units Liquid Crystal Polymer (LCP) diaphragms, that deliver accurate and balanced sound with powerful lows and extended high frequencies up to 40 kHz.
Rechargeable Battery: The MDR-1000X has a built-in 3.7-volt Lithium-Ion rechargeable battery that charges via the supplied USB charging cable. Charging time is approximately 4 hours. A fully-charged battery provides the following battery life:
|Activity||Noise Canceling On||Noise Canceling Off|
|Continuous Communication||24 hours||26 hours|
|Continuous Music Playback||20 hours||22 hours|
|Standby Time||34 hours||120 hours|
Supplied Audio Cable: The headphones come with a 5' cable that you can use when the battery is exhausted, or when you wish to save battery power. The tangle-free cord is terminated with a right-angled 3.5mm miniplug that fits into most smartphone cases. An airline adapter is included for listening to in-flight entertainment while traveling.
