very nice

I've been used to point-and-shoots in the $400 range, and this camera does seem at least two times better -- in how it feels and performs, and how the pictures look. The menu options are intuitive, easy to access, and just what I want. The camera feels hefty but still beautifully compact, easy to carry clasped in my palm. One downside: I haven't managed to make the wifi connection work

A great camera

Purchased this camera as my everyday camera in order not to carry to my Sony A7 . Picture quality as good as A7. Controls are easy to use for manual adjustment. Quick to zoom and continuous shooting is actually useful. Viewfinder not easy to get use to and I find it difficult to use . Overall , very good image quality. Easy to use and really a compact camera.
Pros: Image quality. manual setup capabilities.
Cons: Viewfinder is very cumbersome to use.

Great Little Camera

I needed to find a lightweight camera to use on days when my back and neck pain makes it impossible to carry my A7ii + lenses but I did not want to sacrifice too much image quality. The rx100iv is no A7ii but it is surprisingly good. I'd say stellar in good light and very good in urban night conditions.
Pros: Compact but still has similar controls and features as larger cameras. Lightweight and small enough to fit in a pocket (though I'd be concerned about dust). Can quickly change aperture and shutter speed (in A and S modes, respectively) by turning the lens ring..
Cons: Because it's so small I sometimes accidentally press the shutter release button instead of on/off button. While the pop up viewfinder is a pro I do wish it were a bit larger. No supplied battery charger to charge batteries externally.

An amazing pocket-able camera

My first digital camera was a Sony DSC-S85 and it took fantastic photos. The DSC-RX100M4 is like the S85 to the hundredth power. I bought it primarily because I wanted: 1) the best possible image quality in a "pocket" camera, 2) high enough pixel count that I can crop and still maintain good print quality, and 3) ability to shoot raw. The M4 does not disappoint in any category, but I must confess that I have not yet had the opportunity to explore all of its features. You need a pretty big SDXC card if you want to shoot a lot of raw or panoramas or movies, and you need UHS class 3 to use the 100mbps video modes. I have not used the high-speed features (burst shooting and high frame rate video) so far, so the M3 may have suited my needs just as well, but time will tell. Overall, an awesome camera if you are an experienced photographer looking for high image quality and resolution in the smallest possible package.
Pros: Build quality is superb, it feels built like a tank. Autofocus is sharp and fast, and manual tweaking of autofocus (DMF) is available. Controls are fairly intuitive. Pop-up viewfinder is sharp and works well. The sample 'stretch panorama' images and 4K/HD video clips I have made are pretty amazing.
Cons: Due to its size, the number and placement of buttons and other controls can make operation awkward, and forget using it with gloves. The control options (menus) are extensive, this is NOT a camera for novices. Zoom range is limited compared to others, but that's the tradeoff for that big aperture. Documentation is limited - the printed/pdf manual is more of a "get started" guide, and the more extensive help is online only.

Fantastic Camera
Jerry C from New York on 8/20/2015
The Sony RX100 series has been a fantastic camera line. I had the Model III, and when the Model IV came out, I just had to have it. It's the perfect size - not too big and not too small - yet it fits easily into a pocket. You can use it on Auto and get perfect images, or you can play with the many settings and set it up just the way you want it. I'm hooked on the RX100 series.
Pros: Perfect size, good-size sensor, viewfinder, flash, highly adjustable, excellent quality photos
Cons: None that I've found
