About the Sony WH-XB910N EXTRA BASS™

The Sony WH-XB910B are the lightest over-ear headphones in the customer-favorite EXTRA BASS series. They pack a deep low-end punch and feature Sony's noise-canceling circuitry. That helps quiet the commotion around you, so you can focus on the forceful bass.

Lightweight headphones deliver heavy bass

If you're looking for absolutely flat and balanced sound, look elsewhere — Sony is playing to the bass crowd here. The Sony WH-XB910B are the lightest over-ear headphones in the customer-favorite EXTRA BASS series. They pack a deep low-end punch and feature Sony's noise-canceling circuitry. That helps quiet the commotion around you, so you can focus on the forceful bass.

Our customers who prefer that low-end emphasis generally review the Sony EXTRA BASS series well. They describe the bass as tight and hard-hitting — not bloated or unruly — so it enhances the overall energy of the sound.

Higher-quality streaming

These are the first EXTRA BASS over-ear headphones with Bluetooth 5.0 on board. That's a newer version of the wireless technology, which offers a stronger, more reliable connection. They also feature Sony's LDAC coding for improved sound quality with compatible phones or devices — like a Sony High-res Walkman.

Pair two devices simultaneously

The WH-XB910B headphones also offer multi-point connection. That means you can pair to two Bluetooth devices at the same time — a home office game-changer! For example, if you're connected to both your laptop and phone, it's much easier to toggle back and forth from music to calls to Zoom meetings and more.

A convenient way to hear others

These headphones lets you instantly hear important ambient noise or voices. A button on the left earcup toggles between noise cancellation and "ambient" mode. You press it to temporarily turn off all audio and noise-canceling technology. Tiny built-in mics will pick up external sounds and voices.

Multi-point connection allows you to pair two devices — like a computer and phone — simultaneously.

The right earcup also has a snappy touch-sensitive panel. You swipe and tap to control music and calls.

Sony's mobile app gives you more control

Download the free Sony Headphones Connect app to your phone, and you can customize your listening preferences. Tweak the equalization, sound presets, and level of noise cancellation. You can even choose MORE bass.

Strong battery life

The battery life is very good for noise-canceling heaphones. You get up to 30 hours of wireless noise-canceling use on a full charge. You also get a 3.5mm audio cable if you ever want to go "old-school" and plug the WH-XB910Ns into a headphone jack.

Product Research

Features

Overview: The Sony WH-XB910N Wireless Over-ear Headphones are lightweight and comfortable for long listening sessions. They have soft, cushioned ear pads and head band. With Active Noise Cancellation, you can block out the rest of the world and enjoy your tunes in peace. Built-in Bluetooth 5.2 lets you easily connect without the wires. The headphones have Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant voice controls built-in. The WH-XB910N comes with a 4-foot cable, a USB-C charging cable, and folds flat for storage in the included carrying case.

Dual Noise Cancellation: The headphones feature Dual Noise Cancellation to reduce external ambient noise, so you hear more of your music and less of the world around you. Built-in feedforward and feedback microphones pick up sound around you, and the headphones produce an equal-but-opposite sound that cancels out the noise. The noise cancelling function works best for low frequency noise. Pressing the NC/AMB button on the back of the left ear cup lets you turn Noise Cancelling and Ambient Sound Mode on and off. In the Sony Headphones Connect app, you can customize how you want the functions to change when you press the NC/AMB button.

Ambient Sound Mode: When you wish to remain aware of your surroundings while wearing the headphones, you can activate the Ambient Sound Mode. You might activate the mode when you wish to hear a public announcment (airport/train station) or when walking or riding along the street (traffic sounds). Ambient Sound Mode utilizes the same microphones used for Noise Cancellation, but amplifies and mixes the ambient noise as well as the music or phone call you're listening to.

Quick Attention Mode: Similar to the Ambient Sound Mode, the Quick Attention Mode lets you hear ambient sound through the headphone. Covering the touch sensor control panel immediately turns down the music, call sounds, and the ringtone to allow only the ambient sound to be easily heard. This is helpful when you want to carry on a conversation, or hear an announcement, without removing the headphones.

Adaptive Sound Control: Adaptive Sound Control senses where you are and what you're doing, then adjusts the amount of ambient sound it allows through or blocks. The feature uses smart technology to provide the best listening experience for each situation. The more you use the feature, Adaptive Sound Control recognizes frequently visited locations, such as your home, gym, or office, and tailors the sound to suit the environment.

EXTRA BASS: The XB910N features EXTRA BASS with enhanced low-end performance. The PET (Mylar) dome-type 40mm drivers and a dedicated bass port on the headphone housing provide deep, punchy bass, while maintaining vocal clarity.

Bluetooth: The WH-XB910N has Bluetooth 5.2 for wireless listening from your smartphone, tablet, or Bluetooth music player. The headphones are compatible with A2DP, AVRCP, HFP, and HSP profiles, and feature SBC, AAC, and LDAC codecs for enhanced wireless sound quality. LDAC is developed by Sony and enables the transmission of High-Resolution audio over a Bluetooth connection. It allows approximately 3x more data to be transmitted wirelessly to provide better sound quality. The headphones support Multipoint connections, allowing you to pair two Bluetooth devices simultaneously (for example, your phone and laptop) and easily switch between them. The Bluetooth wireless range is approximately 30 feet.

Touch Controls: The right earcup has a touch sensitive area that is sensitive to tap and swipe actions to control music playback and phone calls. During music playback, you can tap the touch panel for play/pause, swipe horizontally for skip forward or backward, and swipe vertically to raise or lower the volume. When a call comes in, you can tap the touch panel to answer and end a call. Holding your palm over the touch panel activates the Quick Attention function, which instantly reduces the music volume so you can engage in a conversation, or need to be more aware of your surroundings.

Voice Guidance: The WH-XB910N features Voice Guidance that confirms when certain functions are activated or the headphone status changes. Voice Guidance can be heard when you power on/off, pair or unpair with a Bluetooth device, turn on/off the noise cancelling function or Ambient Sound Mode, or need the battery level status. The default Voice Guidance language is English.

Passive Operation: The headphones offer a passive option for those times when you can't listen wirelessly or the built-in battery is exhausted. Simply plug the included 4' cable into your source device and the headphones, and you can listen without worry. You can enjoy the Noise Cancelling and Ambient Sound modes when the headphones are turned on. If the headphones are turned off, the onboard controls are disabled.

DSEE: Sony's Digital Sound Enhancement Engine (DSEE) is used to makes your compressed audio files sound better. When audio files are compressed, much of the high-frequency sounds are lost, making your music sound flat and lifeless. DSEE restores both high-frequency signals and fine fade-out sound, giving your music a more natural and expansive quality.

Voice Assistant: You can access your favorite Voice Assistant directly through the headphones. The WH-XB910N is compatible with both Alexa and Google Assistant, as well the voice assistant that comes with your smartphone (Siri or Google app). Using the built-in microphone, you can connect to your smartphone's voice assistant access entertainment and information, listen to music, set reminders, get notifications, and connect with friends, all with the power of your voice.

Sony Headphones Connect App: The Sony Headphones Connect app gives you control over the sound of your headphones right on your smartphone or tablet. The app lets you select from available presets for the Surround VPT, such as Arena, Club, Outdoor Stage, and Concert Hall. The Sony Headphones Connect app is compatible with iOS devices (iOS 11.0 or later) and Android devices (Android 5.0 and up).

Note: Not all features of the app are compatible with the WH-XB910N headphones.

360 Reality Audio: The WH-XB910N is compatible with 360 Reality Audio which turns stereo listening into an immersive, spherical surround experience. When listening with headphones, music plays inside your head. With 360 Reality Audio, the music sounds like it's surrounding your head from multiple points. You can experience 360 Reality Audio with your smartphone, the ear buds, and a subscription to a compatible music streaming service, such as Deezer, Nugs.net, and Tidal.

Rechargeable Battery: The Sony WH-XB910N over-ear headphones are equipped with a 3.85-volt Lithium-Ion rechargeable battery to power the Bluetooth wireless functions. The battery fully charges in approximately 3.5 hours via USB using the included USB-C cable. With a 10-minute Quick Charge, you can get about 4.5 hours of music playback.
