A little gem for the money

A little gem for the money, sounding better than other amps that cost twice as much. I recommend using it for mid-high frequencies, although it will not be bad for mid-bass with a light suspension. Excellent detail, the right scene - the images on it are not blurry, everything is assembled as it should, and excellent micro and macro dynamics. Depth of space and comfortable not harsh sound. Tested first on a home HiFi system, then in the car. For the test, I used different musical materials, both ready-made test discs, and our own selection of tracks, which were perfectly studied in detail. Bravo Sony!
Pros: The biggest selling point of this amplifier is its sound quality. Pure audiophile sound.
Cons: So far no deficiencies found

Nice little amp.
Richard from Hooksett, NH on 12/7/2022
Very happy with this amp. I purchased this after reading many great reviews on it. It's plenty powerful. The sound quality is very transparent and clean. Very quiet, low noise floor. I'm using this with a mini dsp 2x4 which has a very low output. It's really too low for a car audio install. This low output requires a low sensitivity setting. This amp picks up the signal nicely. I set the gains up with a multimeter to output 16.73 volts (square root of 280) (70 watts / channel) at maximum undistorted volume from my factory head unit. I used a 400 hz test tone for my mid-base drivers, as that was the tone that generated the most voltage (.979 volts ac) from my dsp. I used an 8k hz (.583 volts ac) tone for my tweeters as that generated the highest voltage for the tweets. The gain setting ended up being a little bit more than half way on the gain setting knob. This amp did not disappoint. I like that all the connections are on one side. Much cleaner install for me with it's smaller footprint. My only gripe, due to my install location only, is the adjustments are all on the top. Difficult to get to if you mount it close to the ceiling of the rear deck like I did. I can highly recommend this amp.
Pros: Powerful with very clean sound. Class A/B with a small footprint. All connections on one side. Budget conscious price.
Cons:

Coming from a class D amplifier, I find this amplifier to be more natural sounding than the amp it replaced, I'm not saying class D can't have a natural sound to them. I also noticed a little more timbre on the top end. I'm using two of these in a 3 way setup I have one bridge powering dynaudio mw182 Mid bass, the other one powering Audiofrog Gb25 and gb10
Pros: Great natural sound
Cons: Not a lot of extra power when bridge

GREAT amplifier

It is an absolute shame that there are not more reviews for this amp. There are a lot of people missing out on some fantastic sound quality. Sony really went all out on this amp with top shelf high quality components that provide crystal clear signal with no hiss or noise. It is built like a tank with a super thick aluminum case. It has its own cooling fan that it turns on when needed to keep the components at a happy temperature when driven hard. I see this amp being around for a very long time in my setup. The sound quality is amazing. It has a very flat frequency response with sparkling highs, nice crunchy mid-range and very solid bass. There are plenty of controls underneath the removable panel to tweak your crossover precisely and they even throw in some bass boost controls if you want that. A lot of other amps don't give you those options for all the channels. Plus it's nice having an adjustable subsonic filter. I am absolutely satisfied with my purchase of this amp and would buy it again and again. The one thing I like the most about this amp is that when you turn the music all the way down it is dead quiet. No hiss or hum just nothing. Seriously consider this amp when you are shopping. It's worth every penny. Your ears will be very happy.
Pros: Great class A/B amp sound with the added benefit of high resolution components and amp design. All the connections are on one side of the amp which is a huge plus for neatness. This amplifier seriously surprised me with great sound quality. Removable panel hides all the controls for a sharp clean look. Quiet cooling fan that only comes on when needed.
Cons: Would have really loved to have an extra set of those tiny screws that hold the removable panel in place just in case you lose one. Or both. Which I totally haven't done. Yet.

This is a very nice amp. I'm using in a three channel setup, driving a set of Polks in the front doors, and an 8" Kenwwod sub in the trunk. The subsonic filter takes the mush out of the subwoofer, and unlike my old Hifonics Taurus, this amp is very smooth and detailed even at lower volume, which is where I do a lot of my listening.
Pros: Small, good build quality, excellent set of filters and crossovers, detailed sound.
Cons: Not a huge fan of the screw terminals, but with proper spade connectors for power and ground, it is still easy to set up.

I replaced my XR401.4 with this amp. The design is elegant in my opinion. Simple, doesn't overheat. Have gains set to 65w each running Kenwood XR components for the time being. The only think I liked with other amps is the wire inputs using set screws and ferrels, this amp just uses screws, which is fine and holds tight but for appearance, would prefer to have set screws. The removable cover (access to gains, crossovers, etc) does extend a little past the terminals so you can easily hide the wires and not really see connections.

Great clarity
KT from Garden Grove, CA on 4/8/2018
Used in an active two way system, excellent sounding amp for the price. Easy to install package, fairly compact chassis. If the signal inputs were slightly recessed into the chassis, it would create a tidier install. They need to build a slightly more compact, lower power four channel amp for minimalist hi end systems.
Pros: fairly low height
Cons: None

Good Amp
Vern from Lexington, MA on 5/24/2017
I tested it with a 4ohm load and an oscilloscope and I was able to get about 77 watts/169 watts rms output bridged before clipping. I have the front channel hooked up to two Kicker 6.5" CS series components and the rear channel bridged and driving one 12" JL Audio subwoofer. It has enough power for sound quality and zero noise problems. It also looks very nice, I'm glad that Sony decided to ditch the "Xplod" look. I had a Kenwood "Excelon" KAC-X4R hooked up before this and it had hissing noise problems.
Pros: Good looks, good power output, no noise
Cons: Need spade crimp terminals

Easy hook-up, great sound improvement.

I like the compact size and ease of connections. Install directions were clear and diagrams were also. After experimenting with level controls I was able to balance 7 speakers and a Bazooka tube for awesome results of sound quality in my truck cab using a 12 year old Sony Explode dash unit.
Pros: Filters and balance controls, good connectors, compact size, wiring diagrams and install directions.
Cons: Not enough info on the filter and balance controls ( I had to find this on the internet ). Also the connections seemed to be in an awkward order compared to the way I wanted to lay out the wiring in my vehicle.
