Great little amp

Great little amp. Easily doubled the power over my stock radio. Installed in a 2014 Nissan Sentra so not a plug and play. Had to cut and splice into the speaker wires but easily done with the wiring diagram found on line. Cut and splice into the wires behind the radio and mounted the amp to the underside of the glove box. Also spliced into the accessory wire supplied to the radio to also supply the power needed to turn the amp on.

Sony Mini Amp
Keith from Apex, NC on 10/5/2022
I installed this Amp in my 2022 Nissan Altima. The purpose was to give a boost to the Factory radio and to drive the aftermarket Rockfords I recently installed. I was not disappointed. This is a perfect solution to those who don't want to (or cannot) go through the process of installing larger amplifiers either in the trunk or under the seat. This fit right in the dash cavity in my car and the installation was straight forward. There was a significant improvement in overall sound and loudness. Well worth the effort.
Pros: Compact. Convenient. Good Value
Cons: Unconventional installation.

This is a small mighty 4ch amplifier that produces great sound quality. It's accepts both hi and low pass inputs and has the auto sensing power turn on built in.
Pros: Great sound, good power, and compact. Easy to use connectors and straight forward install.
Cons: No input gain control. The output is only as good as the input supplied by the receiver. Aftermarket head unit perfect choice! Factory unit especially on Toyota trucks not gonna cut it.

Excellent solution for my needs. I just wanted to add some punch to my factory radio and speakers...while retaining all factory function. This little amp did it well. Not earth-shatter power, but a relatively quick and convenient (velcro securely in void in dash behind radio) way to add volume and bass. I might upgrade speakers next, but significant improvement as is. Great value for dollar.

This amp is so small I was able to put it in the dash behind my head unit. Installation was a breeze. Sound quality is good but I feel like I might have lost a little volume compared to just the aftermarket head unit and factory speakers. Of course I also upgraded the speakers which are not as efficient as the factory ones. The only thing worrying me is how hot it got after only playing for a short while at moderate volume.
Pros: Small enough to mount anywhere.
Cons: Gets hot.

This Sony XMS400D really adds sound and clarity to my 6 x 9 kenwood 3 way speakers. The wiring that comes with this unit is easy to follow. The hardest thing I had to deal with was nothing to do with this sony amp. It was actually the existing factory wiring in my nissan frontier. The colors did not match up with the master sheet so I had to trace each wire to find the correct wires but once I did, I was so happy with the extra sound this Sony puts out, everything was worth it.
Pros: space saver because its so small
Cons: gets very hot when it is in use.

Exactly what I was looking for
Garret from Fort Wayne, IN on 6/6/2022
2014 Ram 1500
The reviews complaining about power or lack of adjustment from this amp clearly didn't pay attention to what they were buying. This is NOT a full feature, high power amplifier. My goal was to add more power to the door speakers using the factory 8.4 Uconnect in my 2014 Ram without tearing apart the interior to run cables and keeping factory look and functionality. This fit the bill perfectly. There is a noticeable difference in the "fullness" of the sound, along with a big increase in low and mid punch. The biggest difference is at low-normal listening level. I don't have to blast the volume to wake the speakers up anymore. Install was a breeze. I spliced the amp into the stock wiring behind the head unit and used resistors to trick the Uconnect system. This amp is so small I was able to mount it inside the dash directly below the head unit which made a super easy and clean install. Highly recommended your intentions sound similar to mine. If you're expecting more, this isn't for you.

Great little amp
Tanner from Lk Havasu Cty, AZ on 5/31/2022
I bought this for my toy hauler trailer. The factory head unit has 3 zones, but the third zone is very low power and that happens to be the zone for my two outside speaker. This amp is perfectly made for the rv application because it has the ability to turn on with the presence of a signal (since there is no ignition signal) and also it is low power enough to splice into the line power for the head unit. This amp has an RMS 3 times as high as the third channel of my head unit and it has increased the speaker performance by as much. The speakers are much louder, far better mid and low production and can run up to full volume without any distortion.

This was my first time installing an amp and after studying the manual for my receiver an amp for the wiring the install was pretty easy. First this amp is simple as it gets, at it gets the job done. I have $40 front kenwood speakers and $60 pioneers and this amp makes them sound really good, proof you don't need to splurge on more expensive speakers. Its also very small which allowed me to tuck it behind the headunit in my 94 f150. You can't tell im running an amp at all, everything is well hidden and is really cool.
Pros: Simple, basic easy to understand.
Cons: Obviously its limited in connections but thats not why you buy an amp in this class, not what this amp was designed for

I was looking for a 4 channel amp to get more performance out of my Fosgate door speakers (Prime R165X3) as a simple add-on without spending a bunch of money. My aftermarket head unit (JVC KW-M740BT) just didn't have enough power to push the speakers. Installation was really simple - especially after calling Crutchfield tech support when I had a question that I couldn't find an immediate answer to. I ended up placing the amp in the small compartment above my glove box and attaching with heavy duty velcro. Now, I get all the sound that I want from my door speakers - especially mid's and high's. For low end, I have a Kicker powered sub under my rear seat. I purchased everything from Crutchfield due to their rock solid customer service. Thanks Crutchfield!!

Awesome Micro Amplifier
Krunal from STREAMWOOD, IL on 11/28/2021
Amazing little amplifier! Sounds great paired with a decent volume controller/head unit. The best part is all the connections are on connectors mounted to the PCB. No pigtails so the installation bulk can be kept to a minimum. I did re-terminate the RCA connections to be male end instead of female rather than use the included adapter and another set of RCA hookup cables to reduce bulk. The connector on the RCA side is a JST PADP-10V-1-S and uses SPND-001T-C0.5 or SPH-001T-P0.5L terminals in case anyone needs that info.
Pros: Great Sound Compact Size Connection Methods Heat Dissipation

Be realistic about what you're buying and you'll be very happy. $138.00 (at the time of this review) does not buy you a large 4 channel amp pushing gobs of power, but it is a significant improvement over your stock system. Plan on replacing the speakers to realize the full benefit though, I installed mine and listened to it with factory speakers and was so un-impressed I called Crutchfield to inquire about an exchange. Installed the new speaks and it came alive. In all I spent $1K even on this entire system, all entry level stuff, and it sounds great. To get significantly better would take another $400.00-$500.00 so you can build a decent system without breaking the bank if you want. BTW, Crutchfield support was pretty great.
Pros: Price
Cons: None for the price

Pleasantly surprised. Swapped out speakers on 2013 CR-V with factory radio and almost no mids. Pathetic. Bought this beca didn't want to deal with a big amp. Was able to install behind the radio and now I can't even get the volume to full without it being too loud. Clean sound and plenty of power for my needs. Relatively inexpensive and sounds great.
Pros: Clean sound, easy install, incredibly small so easy to hide
Cons: Not a con of the amp but I needed to buy an amp wiring kit because my factory radio is 10A. Not a big deal but would've been really easy to install if it was 15A.

Installed in a 2010 Subaru Forester. I decided to wire it directly into the factory harness as I have the stock head unit. Relatively straightforward to install if you know which wires go to which speakers. The included wires are pretty long so I zip tied them together to make the install neater. I kept the filter settings off as it sounded like they were unnecessary with my setup (4 normal woofers and 2 factory tweeters). I have the Hertz K170 components up front and factory speakers in the back (they're next up for replacement). The amp made the K170s sing like I have never heard out of them. Sound is much "fuller", especially at higher volumes. Using a wired AUX connection, I can really heard this thing do its magic. Great purchase and just enough power to round out the improved audio I wanted out of my system. Not looking to shake the car next to me (or my car for that matter) but rather just get better sound. This amp is perfect for that.
Pros: -Solid build quality -Power is excellent -Crutchfield "scratch and dent" wasn't even opened and I saved a few bucks
Cons: None that I can think of. Love this thing!

Very good for simple mini amp
G from Mill Valley, CA on 9/24/2021
2012 Toyota Prius
Solid mini amp, no frills aside from a single LP and HP filter setting, but it's better at 45watts per channel than the usual 15-20 a head-unit gives. I was expecting a bit more performance considering I initially only had 16watts per channel on my JVC stereo, but the power boost is still very noticeable with clearer vocals and instruments across the full audio range. Do recommend if you're looking for a bit more power and/or you have limited space to install. The people giving this unit 1 or 2 stars either got a defective unit, didn't install it properly or had unrealistic expectations out of what-amounts to a basic power-pack. You're not going to get teeth ratting and door shaking performance out of amplifier the size of a large bar of soap and 45watts rms.
Pros: -Price -Size -Ease of installation -High and Low level inputs -Can be powered directly from the same car stereo power source as it's only has a single 15amp fuse
Cons: -Only a single LP or HP setting (not a problem for me as my stereo has these built in) -No gain control -Less performance than I was expecting, but not by much, a minor con here

Small size, solid power
Charlie from MA on 8/13/2021
Wish it had adjustments for gain or better filtering, but for the size and power it puts out its fantastic. Wired mine up 4ch with speaker level inputs into a 64 Chevy that has a cheap HU in the glovey-which was a ton of wiring this way, but it works like a charm. Probably overpowering the speakers a bit since they're all rated 30w RMS, and some expert reviews have this amp actually putting out MORE power than it's rated at by Sony, but I don't run it often and I'm not the type to totally blast it
Pros: Size. Power.
Cons: No gain adjustments. Hi pass only on the front, low pass for the rear, with no adjustments. Supplied harness will annoy some people who would rather connect directly to the unit rather than splice into a harness.

1997 Ford Mustang
So I wanted a small amp to fit in my 97 convertible mustang without having to run amp/ground /rca's to the trunk. I previously had a alpine power pack in my 03 mustang and wasn't that impressed. I chose this sony amp for a change of brand and the ease of installation and to also bypass the Mach 460 stock amps. I have to say I am very very impressed with this amp. Yes it's just basically a booster amp for your head unit but man does it pack a punch. I was Leary about it not having any front/back level adjustments but I bought it anyway and like I said I'm very very impressed with the sound quality to my aftermarket speakers and also the stock Mach 460 tweeters. Very glad I made this decision on top of the bad reviews. I would definitely recommend it to power your speakers and let them sing.
Pros: Ease of installation. Size. Power. Length of wires. Easily installed

Super easy to install, fit inside of my dashboard quite nicely. Only took about an hour to install and that's including resoldering my wire harness and disassembling my dash. The sound quality is very good I find myself listening at much lower volumes and still getting nice body from my speakers. Pushes my JL 6.5 coaxial speakers very nice. My only complaint of the unit is that it does not have a dedicated gain control but it is a compact amplifier at a steal of a price so you can't ask it to move mountains.
Pros: Great sound, easy install, awesome price
Cons: No dedicated gain.

After doing the amp alone, I can honestly say I'm blown away! The stock setup was very weak, sounded similar to a bedside clock radio. Now I have decent bass, and clear mids and highs (on my stock speakers!). I installed this in my dash (above the glove box) as I don't care for running wires all over my car. Absolutely garbage. Don't waste your time trying to wire this. Compact amplifier right? Making connections supeerrrr simple right? LOL that's a bunch of you know what. This amp will cause damage to your speakers & blow fuse after fuse. Save yourself a headache and just don't buy it. Go with a normal amplifier! Where you can actually control the settings & wire it in a quarters time then this bologna. "It's easy set up" call support "you have to redo all your wiring" HAHA no thanks. Never so excited to return a product to a company. Keep this junk to collect dust in Crutchfield's or Sony inventory where it belongs.
Pros: I'll be getting my $ back. Wish I could get the time back too.
Cons: Blows fuse after fuse, not easy installing, horrible instructions, waste of labor hours, no gain settings or any settings but 2 on off switches. Everything about this is a con. TRUST when I say it's not what you want

2014 Honda CRV LX audio upgrade
Ron from EMMETT, ID on 9/18/2020
2014 Honda CRV
This amplifier and the replacement of my 4 in-door factory speakers with Infinity 6532's made a significant difference in the clarity and punch of my car's audio. I have the CRV LX so no factory sub. It's not window rattling subwoofer bass of course, but crisp bass with no distortion (the factory setup had muddy sounding bass). Mids and highs are excellent. The amp lays nicely down in the driver side console pocket, out of sight but easily accessible. I removed the console (googled directions) and used a 1" hole saw to make a hole in the front upper corner of the pocket for the wiring harnesses to slip into from behind the console down from the factory head unit. Ran a #12 wire w/15A fuse from the battery thru the existing firewall grommet (poked hole with coat hanger and wire bullet taped on) for power. Factory unit was only 10A circuit so couldn't tap into that. There are several handy places in the console area behind kick plate to attach the ground. Wiring harnesses supplied were plenty long. Speaker wire colors did not match so had to research. Pulled factory radio and cut existing speaker wires to splice in the amp wiring, soldered all connections and used 1/8" shrink tube. Crutchfield tech was helpful to verify correct matching of Honda wire colors with Sony wire colors. Very happy with final result. Significant upgrade for about $400.
Pros: Fairly easy install - 4hrs or so, could do the next one in 2hrs! Cost vs benefit is reasonable Audio improvement is significant without going hogwild Original factory look is unchanged (I like the factory head) Great support and advice from Crutchfield
Cons: More bass would be nice, but not worth extra cost and gear to me. I get my bass fix from 2ea 15" Klipsch subs in my man cave!

2011 Kawasaki Vaquero
I installed this amp in my 2011 Kawasaki Vaquero. The amp came with enough input, output, power, and ground wire so that I didn't have to buy any additional wires. You cannot fine tune the amp in terms of setting low/high pass filters or crossover, but there is a high pass filter for the front speakers and a low pass filter for the rear that you can opt to turn on or off independently. Also, there is no gain adjustment. The amp is small and light. All of the input and output wires come in a harness you just plug into the amp. This really brought my factory stereo setup (head unit and speakers) to life.
Pros: Works great, easy to install, small size, light weight.

Pros: compact, mounted to original amp mount in original location. Easy to wire up, sounds great without breaking the bank

Bernard from Tully, NY on 4/17/2018
Wow! I had installed Sony Speakers in my doors a few months ago, but They didn't seem to add the kick I was looking for. My car, 2014 Mazda 3, doesn't allow for deck upgrades so I thought that this was the perfect little upgrade. This really makes the speakers bump and compliments the highs and lows. I used to play my stereo on about 20-25 for average listening and now I only go to about 12 for the same volume. It's way better than I could have imagined. This is a great investment if you are looking for something loud, but not too intense.
Pros: Small, Quiet (Amp noise), LOUD! sound to speakers, easy install.

Nice little high quality amp. I use it to drive 4 high frequency speakers in my car. Sony used high quality wires on the set of connectors that came with the amplifier. I was surprised to see a thick conductor under a thin layer of the isolation, usually it's the other way around.
Pros: High quality amp Really low noise Does rated 4x45W - it's CEA-2006 certified. High efficiency digital design.
Cons: Doesn't have sensitivity adjustments, but If you use it with a DSP or an active crossover it doesn't matter.

If you're not looking for overpowering your system to bust out the eardrums of the person in the car next to you, this is a nice little amp. I used it to replace a Boss CE-102 to give me an additional channel of amplification. I was a bit apprehensive about buying it because it doesn't have it's own volume control, but the integrated pass filters provide enough control over the sound that you don't really need it.
Pros: sounds great price versatility stability
