About the Sony XS-AW8
Sony bass for small spaces
Sony bass for small spaces
In recent years, compact powered subwoofers have become popular for their combination of close-up bass heft and small size relative to their sound. Now Sony has applied the knowledge acquired from decades of experience to bring you the XS-AW8 powered sub, offering Sony sound quality in an easy-to-fit package.
Tough enough
With enclosure height of only 3-1/8", the XS-AW8 is designed to fit under the driver's seat of most vehicles. Its specially-designed shallow-profile subwoofer combines with the rugged sealed cast-aluminum enclosure to deliver the tight, powerful bass response that brings your music to life. The amplifier includes a durable heat-sink to keep the amp and speaker cool without distracting vibration and distortion.
Bring your music to life
The built-in class A/B amp slings 75 watts RMS to the 8" sub, giving you enough low end to feed your senses without overloading your ears. The amp features Sony's proprietary power IC for high fidelity and enhanced dynamic range. The amp connections and controls are all mounted on a single panel on one end of the enclosure, making wiring and adjustments simple. The package also features a wired remote for handy control, along with line-level and speaker-level inputs that make it compatible with most car systems.
When you're looking for big sound in a small package, Sony's XS-AW8 will bring you the performance you need in a compact package, complete with the quality and workmanship you expect.
Important Note: This Sony sub includes a wiring kit, but the 13' power wire has no in-line fuse. If you don't have a fuse holder to insert within 18" of the battery terminal, we recommend that you buy this 12-gauge wiring kit so you'll have everything you need.

Features
Wired Remote Control: The wired remote control provides convenient control over the sub's output level. The remote control can be mounted using the included bracket or adhesive backed pad.
Mounting Options: The four mounting brackets attach at the corners of the enclosure, and can extend in either direction. They add approximately 1⅜" to the width or 1⅝" to the depth, and a twentieth of an inch to the height.
Signal Input: The XS-AW8 has line level RCA inputs and speaker level inputs.
Crossover: The low pass crossover point is continuously variable from 50 Hz to 150 Hz using a rotary control.
Phase: A 2-position switch allows reversing the sub's phase (Normal/Reverse).
Wiring Harness: The included wiring harness covers power, ground, remote turn-on, and speaker level input. The wire length varies by function:
- Power: 13' (14-gauge)
- Ground: 13' (14-gauge)
- Remote Turn-on: 10'
- Speaker Level Input: 10'
Note: The 13' power wire has no in-line fuse, so you must insert a fuse holder (and fuse) within 18" of the battery terminal.

So far so good. I added this to my Retro Sound Redondo head unit and dual voice coil in dash speaker and I am very pleased with result. This sub isn't going to shake the earth but it will add depth to my classic without taking up trunk space.
