Very easy setup compared to my older Sony receiver. User interface is quick, simple and straightforward. Surround setup was a snap. All in all so far a very solid unit.

There are a ton of amazing home theatre receivers and for the price, this 1100ES crushes my room. The price point is amazing. Zero regrets.

This is an excellent receiver and should be on your short list if you are shopping for a home theater receiver under $1500. Sure, it lacks the bells and whistles of competing Yamaha, Marantz and Onkyo receivers. For instance, there is no Spotify, internet radio, bunches of sound processing effects and so forth. But what it does have is rock solid build quality and refined, nuanced power for movies and music. It is built like a tank and will provide your home theater system with all of the finesse and power of a receiver twice its cost. I have traditionally owned high-end NAD, Rotel and Marantz receivers. Was considering buying a Cambridge Audio home theater this time around. Sony was not on my radar. But my home audio installer recommended the Sony ES line, and I took the plunge and about this receiver. I have been impressed by it. So will you.
Pros: Build quality. Understated good looks. Clear, articulate power for movies and music.
Cons: Not the receiver for you if you want a lot of bells and whistles

Since all video media devices have HDMI these days, this receiver is great with 5 ports on the back. I used the ARC technology to link to my new Samsung 4K monitor and it is a joy. (My old TV only had one HDMI port, so I had to use an external HDMI switcher.) My old Sony receiver from 2005 is still working fine, but the technology has changed. It's a nice upgrade.
