Signal processing makes it sound exactly the way you want

AudioControl designed their DM-810 digital signal processor to integrate into just about any car stereo system, to correct factory sound processing, and to deliver customized, high-fidelity audio to your aftermarket amps, speakers, and subs. You make adjustments and save settings via your laptop (PC or Mac).

Signal processing makes it sound exactly the way you want

Smart-User DSP software

Smart-User DSP tuning software on a laptop

AudioControl designed their DM-810 digital signal processor to integrate into just about any car stereo system, to correct factory sound processing, and to deliver customized, high-fidelity audio to your aftermarket amps, speakers, and subs. You make adjustments and save settings via your laptop (PC or Mac).

Awesome audio adjustment

The Smart-User DSP software package includes Linkwitz-Riley crossovers, 30-band graphic equalizers, parametric filters, time delay/alignment for inputs and outputs, phase correction, AccuBass™ bass correction, and real-time analyzers (RTA) for the inputs and outputs so you can visually confirm the improvements in the sound.

The matrix is your friend

The DM-810 is "matrix-able," giving you the ability to combine and route any input to any output. So, if your car's factory system has separate pre-filtered, time-aligned, or amplified signals going to factory subs, woofers, mids, and tweeters, for instance, the DM-810 can combine them into one smooth, unified signal for you to balance, align, and tune for your better-sounding aftermarket speakers.

Convenient features

Onboard LEDs indicate optimized signal flow for inputs and outputs, plus give you a warning when a source is too loud and causing distorting. An optional ACR-3 wired remote controller lets you select sources, control levels, and recall up to four preset tunings from your front seat. An optional Bluetooth® adapter lets you stream music and control the digital processing wirelessly from your compatible portable device.

AudioControl DM-810

I replaced a very old audison bit one with this and it was such a mistake. The AudioControl DM-810 software is pretty terrible and lacks so many features and functions. The unit itself gives off a horrible static pink noise. I swapped all amps and speakers and narrowed it down to this thing. I set it up on its own battery in my test bench to see if it was a ground issue in the car, nope it's this unit it's causing the pink noise no matter the jumper setting. Lastly the most infuriating thing is does is to turn the gains to maximum volume when it turns on regardless of how you may have initially set it prior to turning off the car. The Audison Bit One software was miles better and the gain settings stayed where you left it period. I'm returning this AudioControl DM-810 and replacing it with a Helix DSP.2 which should be the best in the industry hardware, sound, and software wise.

Needed to return due to floor noise

Aaron from Birmingham, MI on 12/30/2017

Nice features, but the unit I received had floor noise. Aside from all of the time spent installing it, it took me and the installer over an hour on the phone with AudioControl tech support to tinker with unit and convince him the DM-810 was in fact the culprit of the floor noise (regardless of it's settings or amp gain levels). I sent the unit to AC to inspect and potentially replace (which is probably gonna take weeks, then more hours to reinstall - all on my dime, of course). But something tells me this is a design issue, not a defect, so in the mean time, I'm looking at the JL and Rockford options. Also very disappointing there is not Bluetooth connectivity via Android app ... why should I have to bust out a USB wire and laptop to configure my digital processor in 2018?

Pros: Nice features and configurability

Cons: Floor noise (suspect this is design issue, not defect) No Bluetooth / Mobile App

AudioControl DM-810 is Impressive

This is replacing AudioControl DQL-8 in a 2009 Nissan 370Z with Bose/Navigation. I couldn't be more happy with the upgrade. I was able to bypass the factory amps and run the headunit directly to the DM-810. Audiocontrol's support is awesome as well. I emailed them about some hiss and within 1 day they emailed me back directions on switching the grounding jumper which cleared up the signal completely. The sound has never sounded so clear and loud without any noise at all at any volume. Great job Audiocontrol! The unit is easy to install and the software is easy and intuitive to work in and make adjustments. The only negative i have is waiting for the bluetooth module. Sitting in a small car with a full size laptop is not fun. I'd rather be making adjustments with a tablet.

Pros: AudioControl has great Customer Support and developed a project that has fit all my needs with room to build on.

Cons: I wish Bluetooth control was available already

OEM tuning made easier

Jim from Allen Park, MI on 4/22/2017

I've had this unit installed for about 6 months and it definitely made an improvement over what it had replaced. The unit itself is great although the product description is very misleading. I was replacing LCQ-1 with the DM-810 and at the time did it only because I was under the impression that I'd be able to do my tuning from an iOS/Android device since it was supposed to have Bluetooth. I then discovered there is an add-on Bluetooth module that isn't even available yet so now that requires more money into an already pricey purchase.

Pros: Plenty of options to adjust, sum inputs, and have full control of your system.

Cons: Bluetooth, which should have been integrated in the first place, is an extra add-on option.

More details on the AudioControl DM-810

Product Research

Features

Overview: The DM-810 processor was designed to optimize car audio systems, whether factory or aftermarket, using AudioControl's DM Smart DSP app through a laptop. This is a fully featured Matrix DSP interface that gives you instant and clear control over every aspect of the processor and includes speaker and line-level inputs, digital audio inputs, 10 channels of output, signal summing, 30-bands of EQ, time-alignment, and much more. It also has AudioControl proprietary features like AccuBASS, GTO Signal Sense, MILC Clip Detection, as well as integrated input and output RTAs (Real Time Analyzer).

DM Smart DSP: The DM-810 includes a micro USB (Type-B) port to connect to a laptop (USB Type-A to micro-B cable included), allowing you to use the AudioControl's DM Smart DSP app. This is a fully featured Matrix DSP interface designed to give you control over every aspect of the processor. Features include routing any input to any output, gain adjustment, delay, polarity, and a 30-band EQ. High-pass, low-pass, and band-pass filtering can be set up for any output using 12 or 24 dB/octave Linkwitz-Riley crossovers. It also includes RTAs (Real Time Analyzer) for every input and output to easily identify and sum factory speaker signals for OEM integration.

Maximum Input Level Control (MILC): The processor analyzes the input signal to detect any clipping. If the signal reaches the level of clipping, the MILC Source Clip LED glows red, prompting you to turn down the gain level. When the gain level is maximized, a green Maximized LED will glow to indicate the gain, for that set of channels, is set to the optimum level.

GTO (Great Turn On) Signal Sense: If you are connecting the DM-810 to a factory stereo, or an aftermarket unit without preamp outputs and a remote turn-on lead, the GTO Signal Sense circuitry can turn on the processor when an audio signal is detected on either the line-level or speaker-level inputs. After a period of time with no signal input, the DM-810 will turn itself off.

ACR-3 Remote: The optional AudioControl ACR-3 wired remote is a dual-function remote that lets you adjust both the level of the main and line outputs, as well as recalling memory presets, all from the driver's seat. The ACR-3 has two LED indicators and a rotary/push-knob. When the blue LED is on, the remote knob raises and lowers the output level. When the knob is pushed in, the red LED will light, allowing the knob to recall memory presets when turned.

Options Port: The DM-810 includes a proprietary 10-pin Molex socket allowing use of AudioControl's optional Bluetooth adaptor. This allows audio streaming into channels 7 and 8 from a Bluetooth-enabled device.

Top Panel: The top panel of the DM-810 has the labeling for all of the input/output connections, as well as the following LED indicators:

  • Power: If the amp is powering on correctly, this should be lit red.
  • USB Activity LED: This LED lights when there is USB activity between the amp and your computer during set up.
  • Maximized Input LEDs: These LEDs illuminate when a maximum audio signal is present on any of the analog audio inputs. Signal levels should be lowered if these LEDs are on a lot. Four LEDs are provided covering: Stereo 1/2, Stereo 3/4, Mono 5/6, and Stereo 7/8.
  • Maximized Output LEDs: These LEDs illuminate when there is maximum signal present on any of the audio outputs. Signal levels should be lowered if these LEDs are on a lot. Five LEDs are provided, one each for: Stereo 1/2, Stereo 3/4, Stereo 5/6, Stereo 7/8, and Mono 9/10.
  • MILC Source Clip LED: The MILC (Maximum Input Level Control) level-setting circuit prevents clipping and distortion. It calculates when the waveform of an incoming signal (on channels 1/2) is clipping and lights this LED. The level of the incoming signal should be set just prior to MILC LED coming on.

Connections: The DM-810's connections are aligned along the front of the processor for ease of installation. These include:

  • Power/Ground: A removable 4-pin Phoenix (Euroblock) connector is provided for Power, Ground, Remote In, and Remote Out. The Remote Out will send a turn-on signal to other devices whether the DM-810 is using the Remote In or GTO Signal Sensing.
  • Speaker Level Inputs: Four 4-pin Phoenix connectors are used for speaker level inputs: Stereo 1/2, Stereo 3/4, Mono 5/6, and Stereo 7/8.
  • Line Level Inputs: Four pairs of RCA inputs are provided: Stereo 1/2, Stereo 3/4, Mono 5/6, and Stereo 7/8.
  • Digital Inputs: This section includes both Coax and Optical digital inputs.
  • Line Level Outputs: Five pairs of RCA line outputs are provided to run to outboard amp(s). These are: Stereo 1/2, Stereo 3/4, Stereo 5/6, Stereo 7/8, and Mono 9/10.
  • Options Port: Allows connection of AudioControl's optional Bluetooth adaptor.
  • ACR-3 Control: This RJ-14 telephone-type connection allows you to plug in the optional ACR-3 Remote. The ACR-3 is used to change the output level and for recalling memory presets.
  • USB: A micro-USB (Type-B) is used for connection to a computer for DSP configuration.

I really wanted an DSP and always had good luck with Audio Control. Did a lot of research and I needed 10 channels out for 2 4 channel Amps and 1 2 channel amp. and I want to control everything with my Laptop. So for the dollars finding a DSP with 10 channels out for the price u can not beat it. Plus u can tune everything each channel input and output. Just what I wanted. [ Michael  Apr 16, 2017 ]

Newly released model, with current software control and operation. Was advised to consider equivalent Alpine processor, however the Alpine is a bit old in the tooth on controls and software. [ Jeremy  Jan 14, 2017 ]

I do not have a MAC, but from what I have read the DM-810 software for the MAC is actually better than the Windows version. Primarily because the user can see all inputs and outputs in the same window without the need for scrolling. In fact I am still waiting for the update to the Windows version.

After to speaking with AudioControl's support department, they informed me that *all* filters on the DM-810 are fully adjustable within the DM Smart App interface. Every output has an adjustable crossover, so you can change the value of the filter to your liking. If you would like to discuss further, feel free to contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.
