High-quality line output converter

Looking for great sound from your factory radio? Would you like to upgrade your car's premium system? AudioControl's LC2i line output converter takes amplified speaker-level signals and converts them into high-quality preamp signals that can be fed to another processor or amplifier. In other words, it lets you create an awesome car audio system without disturbing your factory controls or features.

AudioControl LC2i (black) OEM Line Converter

Main and subwoofer outputs give you more options for connecting outboard amps.

Get your bass back

Some factory radios dial down the bass as you turn up the volume to protect their speakers. The problem is, they don't give it back when you upgrade to a nice set of aftermarket speakers. AudioControl packs the LC2i with their AccuBASS™ circuitry that reverses the factory bass rolloff, giving you the bass you need to enjoy your music to the fullest. Place the LC2i between your factory system and your bass amp, and you'll hear a huge difference in bass response.

High-voltage signal for great sound

Some premium systems use multi-wire speaker cables for systems with multiple speakers. The LC2i features two speaker-level inputs that let you connect amplified signals up to 400 watts, including cables from Bose® and other premium factory systems. The LC2i then sends out a high-powered preamp signal — up to 9.5 volts RMS — that helps every amp perform to its maximum ability.

Convenience

The optional dash-mount remote control allows you to adjust the level of your sub channel on the go. The speaker-level inputs sense incoming signals and turn on the LC2i, while a built-in 12-volt trigger tells your amps or other gear to turn on when you start your car.

Awesome product! Was able to connect a 5 channel Kenwood amp which has three sets of rca. I used two rca y-splitter to connect from the main output on LC2i to the 2 sets of rca on the amp for the four speakers and the bass output to the sub input. Works perfectly.

Pros: Great signal.

Cons: Wish it had better instruction as it doesn't even state what guage wires should be used for the power and ground. It aslo doesn't inform that the terminals have quick disconnect feature.

Must Have Add-On

Ernie from Kingsport, TN on 3/20/2019

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Absolute necessity for adding an amp and subs to the newer can-bus type stereos. The bass roll off on my Ram 2500 with "Premium Alpine" system was terrible. starting as low as volume level 15. Not only did this eliminate the roll off, but cleaned up the signal considerably, giving me richer bass with lower gain. Can't go wrong with this LC2i.

Pros: Inexpensive, works great, simple to install and tune, removable cable blocks are a blessing

Cons: Accubass threshold screw is a pain

Magic in a box.

Clark from Wilmington, NC on 3/3/2019

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Wow, this thing worked wonders on my factory system. After replacing a small stock sub in my Audi Q5 with a powered JBL hub sub, I wound up with a pulsing sound in the system that sounded like a heartbeat every time I woke up the system ( opening a door, rear hatch, turning on the ignition. ). After several other fixes were tried and failed (tuning the amp, relocating ground...) I installed this LC2i and it removed the extraneous noise! Not to mention it also helped tighten up the overall sound coming from my sub. Like magic in a 3x6 box. I'd recommend it all day long.

Pros: it worked like magic

Cons: Not expensive for what it delivers

GREAT UNIT!!!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!!!!

Guest from Los Angeles, CA on 3/1/2019

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Wow. This unit really exceeded my expectations. It really allowed me to add more midrange sound and maintain the proper "lows" as I increased the volume. I'd always get good low-bass, but the midrange suffered so much. Now I can hear "bass/mids" in the vocals and more importantly - I can feel it all!!! :) AND I don't have to crank it all the way up either! I have a 2019 X3 and the stock Harman Kardon system just lacked the proper balance. The "Accubase" feature rocks! For reference, I used this with: - Focal Access 25A4, 10in Subwoofer - Alpine MRV-M500 1 Channel AMP - Alpine Remote Bass Control unit

Sylvester from Durham, NC on 8/8/2018

The L2Ci performed much better than an ordinary LOC. The gain on my alpine amp is just a hair above minimum. If you have a 2008 Honda Ridgeline with a subwoofer and Navi a load generator is needed to make the subwoofer output work. The load generator was recommended by the owesome support of audiocontrol.

Pros: Works as intended

Cons: Not really a con but a load generator was needed to make the L2CI work as intended because it does add a load to the input.

Don't waste your time on a passive line output converter like I did. I was experience a lot of amplifier cut out due to lost signal. I installed the LC2i over the weekend and noticed a huge improvement. System has a much cleaner sound and bass hits much harder after getting everything tuned.

Absolutely amazing product, super simple install. I went with the lc2i, so that I wouldn't void my warrenty by cutting into the factory harnesses or having to change the head unit. Instead I just used some tap-it's, so I was able to get an audio signal, which doesn't void warranty and from there it was a simple as plugging in the rest of my cords and everything was up and running!

This unit makes adding amps and subs to a factory system a breeze. Simply supply power, ground, and input fly tapping the factory speakers and you have all you need. This device even supplies the remote turn on signal for an amplifier.

Great for stock radio systems

Mark David from Honolulu, HI on 11/11/2017

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Installed in a 2017 Civic Hatchback Sport. I didn't want to tear up my center console area and being that my car was relatively new at the time of installation, I couldn't find out what wires were speaker outputs from the back of the stock stereo. So I did a "ghetto" tap by running a couple of wires back and forth from the front speakers to the LC2i and the Alpine PDX-V9. Love Accubass feature and that it has a bass output as well as a remote turn on for the amp. Dials are easy to turn and read. Quick disconnects make it easy to place in wires. Very satisfied with the LC2i as it lets me keep my stock stereo because I wanted to keep the 3 viewing angles for the back-up camera that aftermarket stereos would reduce to just 1.

Pros: Lets me keep stock stereo for camera angles and stock look. Accubass feature does wonders for adding bass. Separate bass output is great for amps that do not have summing feature.

Cons: Not really a con but I had a little difficulty mounting unit to a board as the mounting holes were close to the body.

Sound shaping for Bose audio systems

Girdin from Dahlonega.GA on 9/3/2017

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Needed this piece of equipment because of the Bose system in my car.. Bose systems roll back low frequency signals to protect speakers as volume rises...this piece allows you to dial it back in....it works really well although it seems to have most effect at lower and higher volumes....its almost as if you have to get stereo volume loud enough for the gain on the audiocontrol to start coming back in before it gets really loud...as if there is a slight dead spot in the equalization....now this could be just a need to match the gains better or just a characteristic of extreme sound shaping idk......that being said this is probably the best way to add subbass in to a Bose system without having to replace everything(head unit speakers and amps).it's an almost perfect solution to what can be a pricey system to upgrade....Bose does not make that easy lol.....any audio control piece you buy will be hgh quality though and when I crank it up..it sounds great!...I would highly recommend the addition of a bass knob for fine tuning bass sound at different volumes though.

Good box to tune your system

Albert from Conway, AR on 4/8/2017

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

The AudioControl LC2iB is a great box. I have it connected to the sub output wires going to the factory amp in my 2008 Jeep Wrangler Sahara. The bass output signal is going to a Rockford Fosgate R1200-1D amplifier driving 2 Rockford Fosgate P2D2-12 subs. It is definitely important to connect it to the right signal source so that it can remotely turn the amp on only when the radio is on. When connected to your factory radio it does not load down the system, the factory radio works as if nothing is connected to it. Once the AccuBASS and bass gain controls are set correctly, the bass sound will be clean and not be excessive. In my setup I have them both set to less than mid-range. To set them up I used a tone generator (20 Hz to 20 kHz) and a spectrum analyzer to adjust the AccuBASS so that the bass frequencies (about 26 Hz to 200 Hz) were consistent in volume. You can also adjust it with your favorite music, just remember, start low. If not adjusted correctly the bass tones were excessively amplified making the subs hum with the smallest bass note. I have tested this setup with all kinds of music, from Latin drum beats, modern rock, country, and electronic digital bass to classical and the bass sounds incredible. Definitely a good box to tune your system.

Pros: Great system tuning capability.

Cons: None.

It was easy to install

Works GREAT. I have used the smaller ones but this one is the easiest to install and use. The small ones where to plug wires into and they always came out. This one was solid, the wirers will not "shake" out from my subs. the device is about 2 inches by 4 inches by 8 inches. I bolted it on the back of my sub box with the amp. It works great. I got the controller and ran the wire from the box to my dash. My stock Bose radio turns the bass down when I turn the volume up - the extra controller keeps the bass kicking.

Pros: easy to install - you have to cut into your current speaker wire but after that it is easy

Cons: None

Product works very well, I still have some adjusting to do. Only issue for 4 stars instead of 5 is I was hoping the unit would turn on with the speaker signal input and I couldn't get it to come on without having to run a remote to it. Found out that it doesn't turn on with bmw m3 premium sound signal. Other than that it works great. Would purchase again

Pros: Clean clear signal, straight forward install

Cons: Couldn't get the remote turn on to work via speaker signal input, but found out other people with same car I had also had to hardware the remote

I appreciated the fact that I wasn't being pushed toward the most expensive option. They looked at my whole setup to determine what made sense from performance and price. This works with a 500w Fosgate amp and creates pure, clean sound with great sounding base. The unit and amp were professionally installed along with a hidden sub box, so I can't speak to ease of installation. But I'm very happy with performance.

Pros: Great middle range price with high-end performance

Cons: None to speak of

AudioControl LC2iB - Solid Product

I really wanted to keep the stock head unit w/ navigation in my Subaru and still get really good quality sound from an aftermarket sub and amp. I've used simple line out converters before in the past to get a signal but I knew the quality of those units are poor, and I was looking for more. The AudioControl LC2iB was recommended to me by a Crutchfield adviser. With only a few simple questions on how to install and tune the unit (AccuBASS) properly myself, I was convinced this was the right product for the job. I am no professional and was able to install the unit with no trouble. I took the Crutchfield advisers advice and installed a fuse for the main power wire and I made sure to test everything before I hid all my wires. The amp turn on is a big help and made installation easy since I didn't have to go searching in my fuse box for a place to connect the amp turn on wire. In my opinion, there is no comparison between the AudioControl LC2iB and a normal line out converter. The AudioControl LC2iB really performs and you can hear/ feel the difference when turning up the volume. Since the install I have had no problems and have been nothing but happy with this product. I'm looking forward to purchasing the bass knob that goes with the unit to adjust the bass since the amp I used for the install does not have that feature.

Pros: Optional bass knob remote, amp turn on connection, accuBASS, main output option good for another amp w/ two channels (front two speakers)

Cons: none so far, not really a "con" but definitely ask a Crutchfield adviser (or anyone that knows car audio) on how to install product.

Good product, but some sort of install instructions would of been helpful. The signal turn on would cut out and in between songs so just bypassed it with a wired remote turn on to the amp

Pros: Acu bass

Cons: Turn on signal wasn't effective

I have speaker levels inputs on my amps, but the difference between that and using the LC2iB is Amazing. The sound is much cleaner, plus this restores some of the bass the factory head unit loses when you turn up the volume. PLUS, it allows a separate bass knob (which I also got) for further fine tuning. If you are gonna use a factory head unit I highly recommend this vs one of those cheap adapters. SO much more flexibility for just a little more money.

Pros: Cleans the signal Restores bass Allows adding a "bass knob"

Cons: A little "cheesy" looking compared to some of the Audio Control devices I've used in the past.

Purchased Audio Control for an Alpine amp and Kicker sub in a 2016 Ford Explorer. Small unit, so finding a place for it was easy. Installation is a little complicated and wiring instructions are poor. Adjustment instructions are also poor. Taking a little time to figure it out, but the sound is awesome.

Pros: Good sound, small package, lots of adjustment flexibility

Cons: Poor installation and adjustment instructions

Product was easy to install and worked as specified. Small, lightweight and easy to mount almost anywhere. Its also nice to be able to make adjustments down the road once you have had a chance to listen to a lot of different types of music so you can find the right preference for all types of music. Tried it with two different ams and subs to see what sounded best. Strangely the smaller amp and sub were best for my nissan armada.

Pros: Lots of them.

Cons: No adjustment for HZ cutoff so make sure your amp has that. I wish it had a remote to make adjustments while driving but maybe it does.

I have the Bose system with Navigation in my 09 Yukon, and I had added an MTX powered subwoofer using the speaker-level inputs. It achieved some low end reproduction, but I wasn't impressed. I decided to add a 4 channel amp to help raise the volume and possibly achieve decent sounding music. Instead of using the speaker-level inputs on the amp, I chose the LC2iB because of the 4 channel output, but what I got was a lot more. Not only does it boost the pre-amp output to 9 volts RMS (13 volts peak), but the AccuBass technology acts like a digital signal processor for the subwoofer output. So not only does my new 4 channel amp (75w X 4 RMS) bring more volume and unbelievable depth and clarity to both my music and my movies, but now my MTX powered subwoofer (a 100 watt amp and 1 10 inch active subwoofer and 1 10 inch passive subwoofer) sounds like a POWERED SUBWOOFER, rumbling the pavement as I drive by. It made such an improvement that my nephew went out and bought a MATRIX line driver for his system. You simply can't go wrong with Audio Control.

Pros: Size, Large rotary knobs for easy adjustment, Line Driver, Speaker-level inputs, Detachable terminals for easy removal, AccuBass technology, Separate output control for each channel, GTO creates a remote turn-on lead

Cons: no optional RCA input (LOL)

Works! Solved my "not so great" bass reproduction. Now, I get BASS! At first, maybe too much for the Bazooka. I had to coordinate the tuning controls on both the Controller and the Bazooka. There are a lot of adjustments that one can tweak until midnight.

Pros: Everything about it is a PRO, and this product was made a few miles away, in my state, and especially, in the USA!

Cons: I just missed buying on St. Patrick's Day and the box came without the little leprechaun to install it. I had to do it myself!

Specifications

Features

Overview: The AudioControl LC2i is an active, high-voltage OEM line converter. This compact, two-channel processor with active input circuitry, accepts speaker-level signals of up to 400-watts per channel from factory-installed source units or amplifiers. It then converts the speaker-level signals to high-quality pre-amp signals that can be directed to after market processors and/or amplifiers. You no longer have to compromise when performing basic amplifier additions to factory installed audio systems. You can enjoy maximum sound quality while maintaining the use of your factory volume and steering wheel controls.

Compact Chassis Design: The AudioControl LC2i active, high-voltage OEM line converter features a compact chassis for an unobtrusive installation.

Two Channel Speaker-Level Input: The AudioControl LC2i features a two channel active/speaker-level input that accepts up to 400-watt per channel signals. The two-channel line-output converter features removable set-screw Phoenix terminals for quick connection.

9.5V Preamp Outputs: The AudioControl LC2i is equipped with 9.5-volt RMS (13-volt peak) preamp outputs w/ level matching controls. It features a pair of Main preamp outputs (for full-range amplifiers) and a pair of Bass preamp outputs (for subwoofer amplifiers).

Active Circuitry: The active circuitry used in the LC2i provides dramatically better sound quality and does not compromise the bass response.

AccuBass: The AudioControl LC2i features AccuBass processing for correction of bass roll-off. AccuBass processing automatically corrects for the bass roll-off that is common with many factory installed audio systems. AccuBass Bass Compensation works at any volume level.

Threshold and Level Controls: Simple Threshold and Level controls allow users to optimize the bass response to match their speaker system.

GTO (Great Turn On): The AudioControl LC2i utilizes selectable GTO auto sensing turn-on circuitry so no remote wire is needed. The LC2i turns on using the unit's speaker-level inputs. It also provides a 12-volt trigger output to turn on your amplifier.

Remote Level Control: The AudioControl LC2i is equipped with a Bass Control Input (RJ-14) for optional remote bass level control (sold separately).

Mounting: The LC2i features integrated mounting flanges to mount the unit under a seat, in the trunk, or under the dash. No mounting hardware is supplied.

Power Connections: The AudioControl LC2i requires a hardwired power and ground connection to your vehicle's 12-volt electrical system. The line-output converter features removable set-screw Phoenix terminals for quick connection.

I have an LC2i never opened because I wasn't sure how to hook it up to my factory system in my 2013 Scion xB I'd like to keep the existing head unit at this time and I'd like to add a sub with the amp I have, I've only hooked up subs and amps to aftermarket head units?

I've installed an LC2i in a couple of my vehicles and they work great. They are simple to install. I spliced into my existing left and right speaker wires (Posi Products wire connectors work great for this) and hooked them to the speaker inputs of the LC2i. Next I wired the +12v and ground of the LC2i with the power and ground of my Sub Amp. Lastly, I connected my RCA cable from the bass output of the LC2i to the RCA inputs of my sub amp. Some minor adjustments of the controls and you're good to go. I hope this helps.
[ Craig  Oct 05, 2018 ]
A
not sure what the question is but the LC2i sounds like it will do the job if you are wanting to keep factory head unit and add aftermarket sub and amp. if you are looking for wiring/hook up instructions, i will save a lot of typing and refer you to the online manuals available through crutchfield...very simple to follow even if you have NOT hooked up these type devices before....hope that helps and good luck!!!
[ JARRETT  Oct 05, 2018 ]
A
You're going to need to connect the LC2i inputs (L+,L-,R+,R-) in parallel to the outputs from your factory head unit. (Wire taps work great for this. Or you could always solder for a better connection.) Then you can run an RCA pair from the LC2i to your subwoofer amplifier, along with a remote wire from your factory head unit, along with a power wire from your battery. Hope this answers your question and if you don't understand this it would be best to have a professional take care of it.
[ Shane  Oct 04, 2018 ]
A
Hey. With the LC2i you have a few options. You can use your factory subwoofer lines: cut out factory subwoofer and utilize its output as an input to your LC2i. If you dont have a factory subwoofer you can jump any of your other audio lines. There's more ways just check out your manual
[ CHRISTIAN  Oct 04, 2018 ]
Q
When the ACR-1 remote is connected, does it override and disable the bass volume dial on the front of the LC2i itself?
[ justin  Aug 27, 2018 ]

i am fairly certain the remote only controls the main output level. Bass and AccuBASS will still be adjusted (if ever needed after initial setup) by front dials. Hope that helps!

Q
Can I use the factory sub line as the input to this device?
[ Dan  Aug 06, 2018 ]
2 answers
A
You probably can but it wouldn't be ideal. Factory sub line will be tuned for just bass and wont be the same quality as any line going to a regular speaker. You can use a speaker line to an equalizer or tune it straight thru the lc2i.
[ Shane  Aug 08, 2018 ]
A
Shouldn't be a problem at all.
[ Tim  Aug 06, 2018 ]
Q
Is it safe to tap into the power from the amp to supply power to the LC2i? Or do you need to run a separate fused power wire to the battery?
[ Vincem1223  Mar 15, 2018 ]

A
It will work perfectly fine tapping into amp power. Just make sure you put a fuse in between the signal converter and where you tap in.
[ Brian  Mar 27, 2018 ]
A
You can run it directly off of your amp. It's 12 volt. Check the fuse rating on both to be sure it is sufficient. I ran it in this configuration and have not had any problems

Will this product create separation in the sound, or by tying into just one speaker does it eliminate the separation that goes on in the vehicle from left to right? My concern is that the added speakers will not have left right separation as if they were hooked up with an aftermarket head unit

A
You cant connect this with just 1 speaker if thats what you mean? If you was using it to connect just a sub..you would connect a left and right signal from your factory system to hook up a sub..same if you was using it to connect a set of speakers..Like using it to connect to a set of rear speakers or door speakers..you connect a left and right from factory system to the LC2..

If I use high level inputs to turn on unit Wil the remote turn on output turn my amps on or do I have to run a different wire?

Yes, the remote output in the LCi2 will work fine.

I use multiple amps with my system so a seperate remote wire needs to be ran for each unit. The signal from your LC2i is only audio and that will not power an amp up. You have to be able to tell each unit that there is a signal to turn on, which is what your remote wire does.
[ Ben  Aug 20, 2017 ]
A
The unit will turn on your amplifier as it checks for signal every 5ish mins to determine if it needs to be on, that being said the amplifier will stay on for approximately 5 mins after the stereo or car is turned off.
[ shannon  Aug 20, 2017 ]
A
You run a remote wire from the lc2i to the amp.

You will want to contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat to discuss compatibility with your factory system. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and see if this will integrate. If it does not, then they will also be able to discuss other options with you.

Under the Input and Output section of the description it says, "2 speaker-level inputs with 400 watts RMS power handling". Does this mean the largest amp that can be ran is 400 watts?

I believe that means the speaker level GOING into the LC2I which would mean amplified factory car stereos can still be sent into the LC2I most other line convertors cant accept Factory Amped signals where as this does

I'm not sure I fully understand your question so here's how I used it. I have a Lexus GX460 with the Mark Levinson sound system. It sounds great except the single 10 Subwoofer was not enough for my taste. So I added two 12 inch Subs with a Sony Xplod 1200 watt Amp. It has high level and low level inputs. My factory Mark Levinson amp has about 50 wires going to it to power 17 speakers. I did not want to risk blowing up the factory amp or head unit so I just unplugged to factory sub and wired it into the high level inputs of my Sony amp. It worked but still didn't have the punch that it used to have with my old SUV that had with a Kenwood head unit. So I bought this Audio Control LC2ib and wired in the same way except I wired it to the low level inputs of my Sony amp. Now I have all the bass anyone would want. With all the fine tuning adjustments on this Audio Controller I usually adjust the bass on my head unit almost all the down. This is exactly what I wanted so not to over work the other 16 speakers.

Q
If I use speaker level inputs and those speakers only receive low frequencies, will the RCA outputs only send low frequencies?

I have the LC2i hooked up on a factory head unit in a 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander. My inputs are taken off the front two channels and from there I have taken the signal to a small amp running a Focal mods and highs. I ordered the remote level control for my subs and run 2 Quantom 12" subs off the low output on the unit. The remote level on works great and shuts the system off when powered down. Totally impressed with the bass control preventing the drop off from the factory unit. Signal from the subs are low and clear with no distortion or roll off. If your putting a system in and don't want to mess with the factory head unit and controls this is the answer. All my functions of phone calls, the CD changer and the use of blue tooth with my phone clear and powerful. Hope this helps?

Yes, if you use the bass RCA outputs.

I don't know if this answers your question, I haven't looked at what my cars speaker voltage is but I have a 2016 Camaro I used posi taps to the front left and right speaker wires and received a signal to the LC2ib to my amp.

Specs on the LC2i are 10hz/100khz....but my lows are dropping off at about 25 hz. I'm pretty sure my factory head unit is the culprit. Because there is no aftermarket kits offered to replace the stock unit, I'm considering utilizing the spacious glove compartment to house a high quality unit to correct this.....I miss my lows

I've done the same thing and this is totally the correct answer. Sounds like your trying to have 2 on switches if that makes any sense?
[ Ben  May 17, 2017 ]
A
You should have a power wire coming in from your battery into the +12V input of the LC2i. There is no wire to connect to the remote in (once speaker wires are connected into the LC2i the signal of the music will activate it and turn the LC2i on. You will then have a wire coming from the LC2i remote out and into the remote in of the amp. You also need an additional power wire for the amp (4 gage) depending on application. Does this make sense?

Mine stayed on for about 5 mins after the radio was off I think it checks for signal every few mins to turn on or off.

Can I run this with a 4 channel amp, using 1 set of preouts for the front door speakers, and the 2nd preout for a bridged subwoofer?

I plan on doing the same exact thing with mine, however I haven't done it yet so I can't say definitively it works. There are two pairs of rca outputs that are labeled full and low output so I'm hoping it works when I try it.

If i dont buy the audio control Acr-1 will it default to max bass output all the time?

No not at all all the converter does is convert the fequency of the wires from high to low for the sub if you are tapping into door speakers. I ended up running my new amp to the sub output wires on my factory amp and didn't use the converter at all. You can control bass output from your new amp.
[ Mario  Apr 21, 2016 ]
A
You can adjust the bass on the LC2ib manually . But it will stay at the level you adjust it to. You will need the Acr-1 to adjust the bass on the fly from the driver seat

Hey can this power a massive audio d400x the amp dose require two sets of power an ground. I have had the amp at 8,000 watt peak. I just want to make sure this can handle the amp / will no blow my amp?
[ Eric  Mar 24, 2016 ]

A
The converter will not "power" your amp, no. It will allow you to convert the high-level signal from factory amplified speaker leads into the RCA pre-amp connections for providing signal to your amplifier's RCA inputs. It also offers signal sensing turn-on for both it and your amplifier. I hope that helps! My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=5
