About the AudioControl LC-5.1300

A full-system amp with power galore

Two keys to unlocking great sound in a car stereo system are serious power and extensive control — and this amp's got them both. For power, AudioControl's LC-5.1300 five-channel amplifier puts out 100 watts RMS to four channels and up to 500 watts RMS to a sub. If you're into mega-power, competition-type systems, you could bridge this amp to 3-channel mode and drive a couple of high-performance components with 400 watts RMS each while powering a sub with 500 watts RMS — that's 1300 watts in total.

Active controls for active systems

This amp will work well with a 3-way system that uses a pair of tweeters, midrange speakers, and a subwoofer. Highly adjustable crossover networks let you set high-pass, low-pass, and bandpass filters so each driver gets only the frequencies it was designed to play. AudioControl's AccuBASS® circuit ensures maximum bass performance, even if you're connected to a factory radio that normally turns down the lower frequencies as you turn the volume up

Add kick to your factory stereo

AudioControl designed the LC-5.1300 to work equally well with aftermarket and factory stereos. Eight active speaker-level inputs allow you to connect to almost any factory radio, with signal summing accommodating the separate bass, midrange, and treble signals found in some factory systems. Signal sensing circuitry turns the amp on, via the front speaker-level inputs, so you won't need to run a remote turn-on wire throughout your vehicle.

Convenient features

Onboard LEDs indicate optimized signal flow for inputs and outputs, plus give you a warning when a source is too loud and causing distortion. An optional wired remote can get assigned to each and every channel pair so you can control volume from the front seat.

Important Note: Some factory radios and amplifiers will not work without sensing that its speakers are connected to their outputs. If you don't have output from your factory system after installing this amplifier, you'll need an AudioControl AC-LGD load-sensing adapter (sold separately) to correct the issue.

Product Research

Features

Overview: The AudioControl LC-5.1300 is a 5-channel amp; essentially two full range 2-channel amps and one mono subwoofer amp built into one chassis. The amp will accept speaker-level or line-level inputs, and both full range sections are bridgable, so it can be configured for 5-channel, 4-channel, or 3-channel operation. A black aluminum cover is provided to protect the controls from tampering. A 2.5mm Allen wrench (included) is needed to remove the cover.

Power Output:

  • Full Range Channels:
    • 4Ω: 100 watts RMS x 4
    • 2Ω: 200 watts RMS x 4
    • Bridged: 400 watts RMS x 2 (into 4Ω)
  • Subwoofer Channel:
    • 4Ω: 300 watts RMS x 1
    • 2Ω: 500 watts RMS x 1

Speaker Input: The speaker level inputs are compatible with most factory stereo systems. They will accommodate from 3 to 40 volts RMS per channel (equivalent to 400 watts at 4Ω).

Channel Summing: The four pair of speaker level inputs can be combined to create a single stereo signal, useful when factory tweeters, midrange, woofers, etc. are actively crossed over.

Maximum Input Level Control (MILC): The MILC circuit analyzes the input signal to detect any clipping. If the signal reaches clipping level, the MILC Source Clip LED glows, prompting you to turn down the source level.

Gain Maximized LEDs: Three LEDs indicate when the amplifier gain for each set of output channels has been maximized for optimum performance.

AccuBASS: The AccuBASS processing circuit compensates for factory bass rolloff to improve bass performance. The circuit has two rotary controls: the Threshold lets you dial in the level at which the AccuBASS will begin to work, while the Level control raise or lower the level of AccuBASS compensation.

ACR-1 Remote: An optional AudioControl ACR-1 wired remote (sold separately) can be added to adjust the subwoofer channel output level from the driver's seat.

GTO (Great Turn On) Signal Sense: When using the speaker level inputs, the GTO Signal Sense circuitry can turn the amplifier on when an audio signal is detected on the front inputs (channels 1 and 2). After a period of time with no signal input, the amp will turn itself off. When GTO turns the amp on, the remote terminal becomes a remote output, supplying +12 volts to turn another amp on.

Controls: All the controls are located under a removable protective panel. The included 2.5mm Allen wrench is needed for removing the panel during setup. A small flat-head screwdriver (not included) is needed to adjust the rotary controls. The amp's controls include:

  • GTO Signal Sense: On/Off
  • Front Channels (1/2):
    • Front High Level: rotary control; adjusts the level of the Front High speaker-level input, to balance with the primary front speaker level inputs when both are used
    • Crossover Range: 3-position switch; sets the crossover frequency adjustment range; choose High, Low, or Off (crossover is bypassed); both the high and low settings are a high-pass crossover, they just have different adjustment ranges
    • HP Crossover Frequency: rotary control; sets the high-pass crossover point; range depends on the Crossover Range switch setting, Low is 30-300 Hz and High is 500 Hz-5 kHz
    • Mode: 2-position switch; mono (when bridging channels 1/2) or stereo
    • Gain: rotary control; adjusts the gain of channels 1/2
  • 1/2 - 3/4 Bus Sum: 2-position switch; choose Sum (combine inputs 1/2 and 3/4 so one pair of inputs can feed all four outputs) or Separate (outputs 1/2 and 3/4 each use their dedicated inputs)
  • Channels 3/4:
    • Crossover Type: 3-position switch; choose High-Pass, Off (crossover is bypassed), or Band-Pass (both high-pass and low-pass crossovers are engaged)
    • High-Pass Crossover Frequency: rotary control; 30-300 Hz
    • Low-Pass Crossover Frequency: rotary control; 500 Hz-5 kHz
    • Mode: 2-position switch; mono (when bridging channels 3/4) or stereo
    • Gain: rotary control; adjusts the gain of channels 3/4
  • 3/4 - 5/6 Bus Sum: 2-position switch; choose Sum (combine inputs 3/4 and 5/6 so one pair of inputs can feed the rear and sub outputs) or Separate (outputs 3/4 and Subwoofer each use their dedicated inputs)
  • AccuBASS: AccuBASS enhances the bass performance of the subwoofer output
    • Enable/Disable: 2-position switch; turn the circuit on/off
    • Threshold: rotary control; controls the level at which AccuBASS begins to work
    • Level: rotary control; adjusts the level of AccuBASS output
  • Channel 5 (Subwoofer):
    • Crossover Frequency: rotary control; sets the low-pass crossover point (the low-pass crossover on the subwoofer channel cannot be bypassed); 30-300 Hz
    • Gain: rotary control; adjusts the gain of the subwoofer channel
  • LED Indicators: six LEDs on the top panel let you know the status of the amp
    • Power: lights green when amp powers on correctly
    • Protection: lights red when the protection circuit engages; built-in diagnostic codes indicate what's wrong when the amp detects a problem; a chart of these codes is in the Quick-start guide
    • MILC Source Clip LED: lights when the signal on input 1/2 is distorting; the level of the incoming signal should be set just below this point
    • Maximized 1/2, 3/4, and 5/6 LEDs: three LEDs; flash to indicate when the amp's gain is distorting the output; gain for each output (channels 1/2, 3/4, and 5/6) should be lowered until the LED no longer blinks

Connections: All the connections are aligned along the front of the amplifier for ease of installation; they include:

  • Fuses: four 30-amp ATO blade-type fuses installed
  • Power: set-screw terminals for +12V Power and Ground; accept up to 1/0-gauge wire (4-gauge minimum recommended); tightened/loosened with a 5mm Allen wrench (not included); 120-amp fuse (minimum) should be placed in-line on the power wire, no more than 18" from the battery
  • Remote In/Out: set-screw terminal; accepts up to 8-gauge wire; tightened/loosened with the included 2.5mm Allen wrench
  • Line Level Inputs: three pair of RCA jacks; labeled Front (channels 1/2), Rear (channels 3/4), and Sub (channels 5/6)
  • Speaker Level Input: four removable Phoenix (or Euroblock) connectors, each with inputs for two speakers; wires inserted into connector and tightened with a small Phillips-head screwdriver (not included); labeled Front High (for tweeters), Front (channels 1/2), Rear (channels 3/4), and Sub (channels 5/6); Phoenix connectors accept speaker wire up to 16-gauge
  • ACR-1 Remote Level Control: RJ-14 telephone-type connection for the optional ACR-1 wired remote control
  • Speaker Output: two removable Phoenix connectors, each with connections for two speakers, for the front and rear speaker output; wires inserted into connector and tightened with a small Phillips-head screwdriver (not included); Phoenix connectors accept speaker wire up to 12-gauge
  • Subwoofer Output: set-screw terminals (not a Phoenix connector) accept up to 8-gauge wire; tightened/loosened with the included 2.5mm Allen wrench
