About the Ring Smart Lighting Solar Pathlight

Light up paths and driveways
Light up paths and driveways
I was very tempted to pick up the older version of Ring's Smart Pathlight in the hopes of saving the plants along my walkway from being stepped on. Each light has a built-in motion sensor, so as you approach your path, driveway, or the edge of your landscape, it lights your way home. To me, the one downside to that model was replacing all those batteries.
So I was very excited to see them release this new version with all the same great features, but with a tiny, solar panel on top that keeps the built-in battery charged. And if you want to use them in dark spots, without direct sun exposure, that battery can be recharged with the included micro USB cable.
Add smart features with a Ring Bridge

If you connect the Pathlight to your Ring ecosystem using the Ring Smart Lighting Bridge (sold separately), it can do more than shine a light. When someone enters the motion zone, it will not only light up the area, but it will also send a notification to your phone to let you know. And if you have it grouped with other lights, it can turn those on, too.
If you are a Ring Protect subscriber, you can even have it trigger recording on your other Ring cameras and doorbells so you catch motion events even earlier.
Alexa, turn on the lights
When you connect your Pathlight via the Bridge, you can also use select Alexa-enabled devices to control your lights using your voice. And Alexa can speak up when one of your lights or motion sensors detects motion.

Product Research
Features
Overview: Ring's new Smart Lighting products can light specific areas around the exterior of your home for added safety and security. These solar-powered Pathlights can illuminate your driveway, pathway, or walkway when motion is detected. The Pathlight can turn itself on automatically when it detects motion, in sync with other Ring Smart Lights*, or manually through the Ring App*. The Pathlights are powered by solar and a rechargeable battery (included), and can easily be installed into any soft ground. The lights are protected by a 1-year limited warranty.
* Note: The Ring Bridge (sold separately) is required for setup and interacting with other Ring Products or the Ring App.
Ring Bridge: The Ring Bridge integrates Ring Smart Lights, Motion Sensors, and Transformers into your Ring system. The Bridge uses your home Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n, 2.4GHz) to connect to the Ring app. It also connects to other Ring Smart Lights using a proprietary long-range protocol. During setup on the Ring app, you can control groups of lights at once, and receive notifications via the app when any light or motion sensor detects movement. You can also integrate Smart Lights with Ring Doorbells or Security Cameras for enhanced security, and control the lights via voice control with Alexa. A minimum internet upload speed of 1 Mbps is required, but for optimal performance, 2 Mbps or higher is recommended. Up to 50 Ring Smart Lighting devices can be supported by a single Bridge. Without the Bridge, Ring Smart Lights function only as standard motion-sensing lights.
Pathlight: The Ring Pathlight has an adjustable, high-efficiency LED light that illuminates the important areas around your home with 80 lumens of brightness, at a 3500K Color Temperature. The light has an adjustable auto shutoff time of 30 seconds to 2 minutes. In the Ring app, you can adjust the light intensity, and select a Dusk-to-Dawn glow, if desired.
Motion Detection: The Ring Pathlight features adjustable motion detection with a field of view of up to 120°. It has a range of up to 15 feet, with the detection angle dependent upon the distance from the unit. If you're installing multiple Pathlights, it is recommended that you space them 5 to 7 feet apart for the best motion sensing performance.
Installation: The Pathlight is designed to be installed into any soft ground. The 17" tall light comes with a 6" mounting stake that is driven into the ground. The Pathlight fits over the stake and twist-locks into place. No hardwiring is required. Average install time is approximately 5 minutes.
Solar/Rechargeable Battery Powered: The Ring Pathlight is powered by solar and a rechargeable battery (included). The battery is recharged by the solar panel on the top of the light. Also, a USB charging cable is included for recharging the battery, if desired.
Weather Resistant: The Pathlight is designed to be used outdoors. With its IP66 rating, it is resistant to inclement weather and temperature extremes (-4°F to 122°F).
Ring App: The Ring Bridge lets you control your Smart Lighting devices via the Ring App on your smartphone or tablet. The Ring App lets you turn individual lights on or off, or group lights together and control them as a group (front yard, back yard, etc.). The app also provides instant notification when motion is detected by one or more of your Smart Lights, as well as view a list of recent activity at your home. You can control the brightness, adjust the motion detection sensitivity, and monitor the battery level in each light from the app.
Ask Alexa: Using the Bridge, you can link your Ring Smart Lights to your Alexa-enabled devices to give you control over your lights with your voice. You can turn individual or groups of lights on or off, and adjust settings (brightness, motion detection sensitivity) with your Alexa device. When enabled, Alexa will notify you when motion is detected by any of your Smart Lights.
Security or Convenience: The Ring Bridge can provide enhanced security for your home when added to your Ring security system. With the motion detection abilities of the Smart Lighting devices, the Bridge can link together the lights with your Ring doorbell cameras and security cameras to create a wider reach. You can also program all of your Smart Lights to turn on whenever one detects motion. For convenience, you can link together your Smart Lighting devices to light your path when you come home after dark. When one of the devices detects motion, you can set the system (through the Ring app) to turn on your Pathlights, Steplights, Floodlights, or Spotlights to safely light your way to the door.
