About the Ring Solar Charger

Recharge naturally

I just got a notification from Ring saying that my doorbell's battery is low. While it's not excessively troublesome to remove and charge the battery, it's still a hassle I wouldn't mind avoiding. Well — with this solar charger and a few hours of direct sunlight per day, I could.

I just got a notification from Ring saying that my doorbell's battery is low. While it's not excessively troublesome to remove and charge the battery, it's still a hassle I wouldn't mind avoiding. Well — with this solar charger and a few hours of direct sunlight per day, I could.

It comes with everything you need to securely mount it to your wall and connect it to your doorbell. Then the built-in solar panels will do the charging, so you don't have to. Just remember, this one is made specifically for Ring Video Doorbell. If you have Ring Video Doorbell 2, you'll need this one.

Product Research

Features

Overview: This Solar Charger is designed for the original Ring Video Doorbell. Its built-in solar panels keep your Video Doorbell charged. The weather-resistant Solar Charger also doubles as a secure mounting bracket. The Solar Charger comes with the hardware for mounting it to most hard surfaces, including brick and stucco.

Note: This Solar Charger is not compatible with the Ring Video Doorbell 2.

Solar Powered Charging: The Ring Solar Charger features three built-in solar panels - two 4-3/4" panels along the sides and a 2-3/8" panel across the top. These solar panels have a power rating of 0.56 watts and 5.6 volts DC. The panels require a few hours of direct sunlight every day to ensure the original Video Doorbell is adequately charged.

Installation: The Ring Solar Charger installs to most flat surfaces. Self-tapping screws are included for mounting the charger to an external wall. Wall anchors (included) are required if you are mounting the charger to a hard surface, such as brick or stucco. Prior to installing the original Video Doorbell, you will need to plug in the charger connector to the doorbell's Micro USB port.

Customer Q&A

Q
Crutchfield asked: Why did you buy this?
A
Because I didn't want to pay an electrician to hardwire area where I want it installed. [ Marlicia  Mar 27, 2020 ]

I have one and liked it, so I bought this for my daughter I got her one for a surprise gift. [ Kim  Dec 08, 2018 ]

My front door is south facing with direct sunlight, it is a no brainer to get the solar charger and not have to worry about the battery dying. [ T  Nov 12, 2018 ]

Q
Has anyone installed this on top of one of the wedge kits from ring? Does it work? If so how does it look?
[ Jsayre  Mar 06, 2020 ]

A
Yes Jsayre I did install this solar charger on top of my ring. It works great and looks nice also. It keeps my ring charged the battery indicator is always showing 3 quarter charge. Best investment ever. Before I had to remove the ring every 3 weeks to charge it. Get it you wouldn't regret it.
[ DIMAS  Mar 06, 2020 ]
Q
I just installed a ring video doorbell. The current of the existing hardwired bell appears to be insufficient to charge the ring battery. Is it possible to supplement that with a ring solar charger as an addition?
[ Leon  Jan 05, 2019 ]

A
No, you must use one or the other. The solar charger with your standard battery pack will work. Don't mix power sources.
[ James  Jan 11, 2019 ]
A
If your existing system is insufficient to hard wire the ring to, then just use the solar charger alone. I would not use both because one is alternating current and the other is direct current, and as an engineer I foresee you frying your ring doing that.
[ David  Jan 09, 2019 ]
A
I had the same problem and got the solar charger about a month ago. At this point, I would say it makes very little difference. I live in Rochester, NY and we have cold weather, which reduces the ability of the battery to charge, AND we have cloudy skies alot of the time. I think if you lived somewhere warmer and sunnier you'd have better luck. I am hoping that in a few months we will start to feel a difference.
