About the Ring Floodlight Cam

Emily S.

Upgrade your floodlights

Ring's Floodlight Cam is a powerful floodlight, but it's also much more. It's a security camera with a 110-decibel siren, and its companion mobile app is fully loaded with features. It does need to be hardwired, but it connects to standard junction boxes and easily replaces existing wired floodlights for a substantial home security upgrade with minimal effort.

Ring Floodlight Cam motion detection and camera field of view

Floodlight Cam's dual sensors provide 270º of motion detection, while the camera will capture footage within its wide 140º field of view.

Monitor your blind spots

Advanced dual sensors provide a massive 270º field of view for motion detection. When someone enters that motion zone, the ultra-bright LED floodlights come on and a notification is sent to your phone. You can then use the app to view live footage in real time from wherever you are. Keep in mind, the camera's 140º field of view may not capture every event that triggers the floodlights.

Press the talk button to have a chat with your visitors, or — if they are uninvited guests — press the alarm button to activate the 110-decibel siren to scare them off.

Optional cloud storage

The camera streams live footage to the app 24/7, but if you want to save or send video clips, you'll need a Ring Protect plan. Ring Protect is a subscription-based cloud storage service. The basic package ($3/month or $30/year) covers a single camera and allows you to save and share your Ring videos from that camera. You get a free, 30-day trial subscription when you activate your Ring device.

Installing multiple Ring devices? The Ring Protect Plus plan ($10/month or $100/year) includes cloud storage for unlimited Ring devices at a single location.

Just ask Alexa

I also have good news for Smart home fans — Ring cameras will work with Amazon Alexa-enabled devices for voice control. If you have an Amazon Fire TV, or an Echo Show or Spot, you can ask Alexa to show you the live stream from your Floodlight Cam.

Part of your ring of security

Remember — Ring Floodlight Cam is just one piece of your home protection puzzle. Fill in the gaps with these other Ring devices:

More details on the Ring Floodlight Cam

The Ring Floodlight Cam replaces these items:

Product Research

Features

Overview: The Ring Floodlight Cam outdoor security camera can keep an eye on your property when you can't. It is equipped with dual, motion-activated 3000° Kelvin floodlights that can light up a wide area. With built-in Wi-Fi, you can view the streaming video on the Ring app directly from your computer or smart device. It has a microphone and speaker for two-way audio capability. The Floodlight Cam is hardwired into your home's electrical circuit (100-240V), and can easily replace an existing floodlight.

Camera: The security camera has a wide-angle lens with a 140° field of view. The camera produces bright 1080p HD video in a Live View that you can watch on your phone, tablet, or computer. Adjustable motion sensors cover a 270° arc, and can detect movement up to 30 feet away (based on a 9-foot mounting height). When motion is detected, the 1800-lumen floodlights will automatically turn on, and a notification will be sent to your smart device through the Ring app. Even with the lights off, the camera's infrared LEDs will enable the night vision.

110dB Siren: The camera features a 110-decibel siren alarm that will help scare off any intruders. The siren is remote activated from the Ring App on your smart device or computer.

Weather Resistant: The Floodlight Cam is designed to be used outdoors. It is resistant to inclement weather and temperature extremes (-22°F to 120°F).

Installation: The camera is designed to be mounted on an exterior wall of your home, replacing an existing floodlight. A new 4" diameter junction box should be installed for optimal performance. The included mounting bracket installs over the junction box, and has 1-1/2" threaded mounting posts for securing the Floodlight Cam. After hardwiring and installing the camera, you're ready for setup with the Ring App and position the lights and camera.

Wi-Fi: The Ring Floodlight Cam operates on an 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi connection on the 2.4 GHz band. The Floodlight Cam requires a minimum upload speed of 1 Mbps, however, 2 Mbps is recommended for best streaming performance.

Ring App: The free Ring - Always Home app pulls together all of your Ring devices, including Video Doorbells and Security Cameras. You can have multiple users on your Ring account, each with the ability to view video from any of the video devices. The app sends you an instant alert when someone triggers the camera's motion sensor, or rings your Ring Video Doorbell. You'll be able to see, hear, and speak to anyone on your property using your smart device. In addition, the app lets you create a virtual Neighborhood Watch and receive alerts from your neighbors. In the app, you can zoom and pan for a better look, flash the lights, activate the siren, customize the Motion Zones, times for receiving (or not receiving) alerts, and how often to be notified for motion events. The Ring App is available for Apple iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch running iOS 9.1 or later, and for Android devices running version 4.4 and up. The app also works with Windows 10 and Mac OS.

Ring Protect: The Ring app includes a free 30-day trial of Ring Video Recording, which lets you save, review, and share recordings from the app. Ring Protect plans are currently* $3.00 per month / $30.00 per year for basic coverage (per camera), or $10.00 per month / $100.00 per year for Protect Plus (unlimited cameras).

Customer Q&A

3 questions already asked

Q
How is the operation as a backyard floodlight? Can I just turn the light on and off with a switch, so that I can use it when entertaining outside at night? Do I have to use the app to do that?
[ Chris  Nov 28, 2020 ]
1 answer
A
You really don't want to turn the Ring floodlight camera on and off by the light switch because when you turn it off, it also turns off the camera. I actually rewired by light switch so that it is bypassed so my Ring floodlight camera always has power. Also, turning on the power via the light switch, will not keep the light on the Ring floodlight as it will time out based on your settings and turn off. If you want to turn the floodlight on so that it stays on until you turn it off, you do that from the Ring phone app.
[ Arlin  Nov 29, 2020 ]
Q
Can the ring flood light camera be mounted on a rectangular box or do you need a round junction box? If you need a round box, do you sell an adaptor to connect to rectangular box.
[ Jerry  May 29, 2019 ]
1 answer
A
The included mounting bracket installs over a standard 4" diameter junction box, and has 1-1/2" threaded mounting posts for securing the Floodlight Cam. Everything should be included in the box to mount the camera on your standard junction box.

Q
Can these cameras be mounted where regular house flood lights are.?

A
Yes, they are easy to mount. If you have wired floodlights already, you can use those wires for the floodlight cam. That would be easy.
[ CURTIS  Feb 21, 2019 ]
A
Yes. Standard exterior light fixture mount
[ SHAWN ANTHONY  Feb 21, 2019 ]
A
Yes. There's a backing plate that mounts to your standard box that your light is on now. They run on 110v.
[ CHRIS  Feb 21, 2019 ]
A
In short, yes. I mounted mine to the outlet box that held flood lights for the driveway.
[ RUSSELL  Feb 21, 2019 ]
A
Yes it can be mounted upside down
